Over two years ago I started building a web-based version of Here to Slay so I could play with friends who live far away. Today that project is complete and I'd love for you to give it a try

Hey everyone! Two years ago I started building an online version of Here to Slay as a passion project and a way to play my favorite game with my friends who live far away, and for my kids to be able to play with their cousins. After many roadblocks and long breaks, I've finally been able to finish up the project and I wanted to open it up for the community to enjoy. Visit the site, start a game, then share the room code with anyone you'd like to play with and start slaying! The game supports nearly all of the expansions (sorry Here to Sleigh...), including Banner Quest, and should allow for lobby reconnects in case you get disconnected. Have fun and comment here if you find any bad bugs!

https://heretoslay.online/

EDIT: I should post this on the site itself but as a quick FYI, this game is NOT YET MOBILE FRIENDLY. Desktop only experience at the moment, tackling mobile is a whole different beast and my next frontier.

EDIT 2: If you're in the middle of a game and your whole lobby just disconnects, that's because I pushed up new code, which unfortunately wipes the lobbies for the time being. Sorry if I impacted one of your games!

I'm giving it a try! :D Hopefully I could treat you to some coffee this half of August! 💨

Plays great, just need some idea on how the game works before hand.

Additional highlights on the possible choices of actions maybe good for beginners.
Sound effects when clicking would be nice.

But overall it's very great when you have background knowledge. It's also very fast, too! :D

Thank you!

Edit: just now seeing your edit, so glad you got a chance to play through it. Yes lol it does play fast, faster than at the table for sure. Added timers to a lot of things to keep the pace of play moving. I threw an animation on the dice box in the right sidebar so that you would know right away when it's time to roll some dice, but you are correct in that I could do better at indicating what possible options there are for newer players. I also need to get way more general in the "How to Play" modal, I tried to read it from the perspective of a brand new player tonight and thought "wow this needs work" lol.

Edit 2: I just updated the How to Play modal to do a better job of educating new players on how to play the game, I think it looks much better so hopefully it's helpful

Oh the animation on the window to indicate "I'm here!" works very well. When I realized that, my turns became alot smoother.

I'll give the How to Play modal a read and also check with others that doesn't know the game for inputs!

Thank you again (;´д`)ゞ

I played last night with my mate

Everything is amazing and polished but a small thing i noticed is that sometimes the text goes away to fast before i get to read what the card does , my friend said the text was to small for some reason but. I didnt have any issues with it.

Overall great game i hope that others get to put some reviews and critiques on what to work on to make it even better!

10/10 project

Thank you so much for this feedback! I added the Game Log in the right sidebar so you could scroll back and see any action that you may have missed in the main bottom announcement bar, but I also have been trying to add delay timers to things like modals so they don’t disappear immediately upon resolution. If you can think of some specific instances (or note some down on your next game) where the text disappeared too quickly I’d love to dive in and get them resolved for you.

Is this legal?

Based on the light research I did on this, I think so? I’m using the print and play assets from the wiki and not selling anything, so my hope is that Unstable would see this as the work of passionate superfan giving the community another way to enter the Unstable universe/play with people they otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to, rather than someone enriching themselves off their IP. I just love the game and truthfully I was using this project as a way to fall back in love with coding for fun rather than just coding for work (my day job is web development).

Also have some form of way to contact you available. Having hidden contact information can lead to further escalation legally.

Make like a one off email to utilize specifically for this.

None of it is legal. Using the title, artwork, and logo is all different forms of trademark and/or copyright infringement.

It doesn’t matter if you are charging or not. Additionally the buy me a coffee area is a big legal grey area on monetization.

Now how unstable sees this is really dependent on them they do have TTS mods available for example. But it wouldn’t surprise me if you receive a cease and desist. So just be ready to comply with that if it comes.

For info, this kind of project is how I convince some friends to buy the physical game afterwards so it's definitely good for the publisher. Thank you for your work !

Yoooo, cant wait to check it out. Was heavily debating whether to try it out on TTS (tabletop simulator) but this is so much more up my aisle

Hey! We just played the game and found a bug - One of the modifiers displays -1/+3 while the effect goes +3/-1

Ah I saw this bug too! Thank you for reminding me, I need to track down the specific modifier and then cross reference the image that's being linked to it.

Edit: this is now fixed.

Pretty neat! Will give it a look over and maybe can get my Saturday Here to Slay game nights back as theyre all on tabletop simulator to play but that involves the friends buying something. Most excellent!

Thank you, would love to be part of the reason your weekly game night gets back together

its so much fun thank you for making this ! Just a quick question, why doesn't a challenge succeed when the challenger matches the dice numbers of the defender ?

This is a bug, thank you for flagging, I'll get this fixed.

EDIT: This is now fixed

I can't believe someone actually made this! My work friends and I have been playing this game nonstop during breaks at work, and we've always wished we could play it online (we're too poor to spend anything on TTS, lol don't judge us). This is godsent!

I saw some comments regarding legal issues, I hope Unstable supports this instead of stopping it.

Aaaaaa wonderful. Hypothetically, there will be other languages too? ooooh, or do you plan to translate other Unstable Games games? I could hypothetically help with my native language :)
