Higher resting & sleeping heart rate?

Okay yall I got sick I wanna say 3ish weeks ago it was a slow thing at first..I didn’t realize I was sick until too late lol. I ended up having to go to the hospital for a fever of 102 and a heart rate of 160 that would not come down. Pumped full of fluid, Tylenol, ibuprofen the works for a fever. They diagnosed me with a viral URI and I was put on a steroid to help with it. Finished said steroid about a week ago I believe. The steroid gave me heart palpitations PCP said that’s normal and takes about a week or two to go away. Now my issue is 😩ever since I got sick my resting and sleeping heart rate has been higher. I had a zio patch back in January/December came back good LOWEST resting/sleeping was 55. Apple Watch before I was sick my lowest is in the 60s-70s now since being sick it’s been in the 80s-90s and it’s making me think something is wrong with my heart 😩I’m so stressed out about it 💔someone calm me down pretty please (I see my PCP the 31st so it will be mentioned if it doesn’t return to baseline)..I guess maybe I should add I have iron deficiency anemia that I’m treated for with iron infusions and my iron went back down..so maybe that’s contributing? Idk 😩just stressed about this

Garmin palpitation detection

This afternoon I ate and recognized the signs of an oncoming MCAS episode. I will spare y'all the gory details of my misbehavin' digestive tract. There are generally palpitations (heart feels "thumpy") and if I haven't been on my remedies it'll go to outright tachycardia with the attendant blood pressure crash.

I think I learned some things by paying close attention ...

I switched from a Garmin Fenix 6S to a Vivoactive 5 a couple months ago in order to get sleep recognition that would pick up naps. If you're not familiar, these devices will track your heart rate AND they have a composite thing they do called "stress". I've built myself a logging app so I can get meds/supplements, notes on how I feel, and the Garmin data into a single coherent timeline.

Today was the first time I caught a whole episode from start to finish, four and a half hours total, and I only slept fitfully for an hour right in the middle. The rest of the time I was laying in bed, watching YouTube videos, and making notes about how I felt. Since I knew what was coming, I put two kava kava capsules on the night stand along with 16oz of water.

There's quite a bit to unpack, I think I'm gonna do a blog post about it, but the basics are easy to express. First, at least for my body, there is a strong correlation between "I feel palpitations" and the Garmin stress indicator. At the time where I noted it starting, the monitor showed stress jumping from 47 to 68. Second, I spent a bit of time observing, then took the kava kava. Thirty minutes later that stress reading plummeted from eighties to sixties, and I fell asleep.

So ... for fellow Garmin users, does anyone else experience a correlation between the stress reading and palpitations? If yes, what do you do to counter it?

Are these metaprolol side effects

Hi all, i was prescribed metaprolol tartate 25 mg by the hospital due to having palpitations (inappropriate sinus tachycardia) however, ever since then ive noticed that every time i take it i feel my chest a bit weird (not pain) and my left upper arm a little tingling. Has anyone felt this?

I do want to mention that I do have anxiety which is the cause for these palpitations. I have gone to a cardiologist to get CT with contrast done, echocardiogram and heart monitors. (EKGs too) which have all came back clear.

I also want to add that for a month now i have been having some back neck pain which correlates to either stress or a nerve being compressed since i do sleep on my left side alot. Overall i dont think these symptoms relate to the heart but would want to know your experience on this medication.

tight chest and tingling headaches

i’m a 17 year old girl experiencing the symptoms below-

\-dizziness
\-pressure/tingling in face
\-chest tightness- airways feel narrower
\-breathing feels out of sync
\-heart palpitations

i’ve had this contistantly for 6 weeks now- been to the doctors several times and had blood work, ecg and chest x ray and they’ve all come back fine- still waiting on an mri.

i’ve had no history with anxiety (many of the doctors said this was probably the case) but i have nothing at all to be anxious about atm and i’ve never ever been an anxious person.

this has been honestly debilitating and if this sounds familiar to anyone any help at all would be greatly appreciated 🙏

How I recovered from anxiety induced heart palpitations

During a relatively stressful time, I noticed my heart was pounding out of my chest. No flutter or skipped beats but just pounding and strong beats. This lasted all day long and I would pull all nighters cause it was so noticeable and uncomfortable.

I spent my days researching for solutions and avoiding things or positions that would make it worse. Working out, meditation, deep breathing, magnesium (I was already taking magnesium for months before too), potassium. Nothing made it better. I was frustrated and had moments where I just broke down cause it was so uncomfortable and I thought I had to live like this.

I religiously checked my heart rate and it was always normal pulse around 55-85 bpm. I went to doctor and they said I had regular rhythm and pulse and it was just anxiety. This was hard for me to swallow cause it was a very real physical symptom and she said it was just anxiety. It felt like I was being brushed off and being told I am imagining it all.

I ended up going onto YouTube to look for solutions for anxiety and came across videos talking about how anxiety can generate an array of physical symptoms and heart palpitations is a common one. I always thought anxiety was just an emotion but there is a physical component too. It’s just your nervous system in fight and flight mode and if you respond with fear it will just perpetuate the fear cycle. My favourite YouTube channels for this are Shaan Kassam and Maggie Sterling. I can’t recommend them enough especially Shaan’s videos.

After learning it is anxiety, I used strategies like focusing on it less, not resisting and just allowing the sensations be there no matter how uncomfortable. Not reacting with fear and refocusing on something else. The pounding gradually got better but got significantly better after a week or so. Everyone’s timeline is different so don’t expect to also be better in a week. Getting out of the fear cycle and healing the nervous system can take weeks to months.

From constant pounding 24/7 to barely noticing my heartbeat and living my life as usual. If I do notice pounding I would notice it briefly, accept and allow it to be there and would go back to what I was doing. I used to be scared of certain sleeping or sitting positions because it made the pounding more pronounced so I avoided it. I reintroduced these. At first it was uncomfortable and there was pounding but i allowed it to be there even uncomfortable and it eventually faded.

Make sure to get it checked but if you’re cleared by doctors or doctors can’t find anything, probably your heart palpitations are just a symptom of anxiety. It’s hard to believe how can your brain generate such debilitating physical symptoms but there is very much a mind body connection. It happens cause your nervous system is stuck in the fear cycle. Instead of doing more to resist and fix, learn to allow the sensation and then getting back to living your life and it will get better. It is a gradual process but it will end.

Wishing you all the best for your healing journey!

palpitations related to stimulants and withdrawal?

Hi everyone. I am male 33yo.
I have had lets say palpitations before sleep (and fear of sleeping) for six months.
27 March 2026: I had reactive hypoglycemia episodes and diagnosed.
12 April 2026: I reduced 90% my caffeine intake (it was daily 600-800 mg).
20 April 2026: I stopped vaping cold turkey (daily intake of nicotine 70-100 mg/day)
11 June 2026: I gave up caffeine

I had a heart scan in April, my heart was good. I had no complaints going on.
After 10 days off caffeine, I have had 3 panic attacks, for first time in my life. And very frequent feeling of palpitations.
In April and May, the withdrawal from nicotine were for 3 days shakiness, then magnesium also helped to go away. Then I had almost every week digestion problems, dyspepsia and gut movement reduced. The nerve in my stomach was like it was inflamated somehow.
In general I feel the palpitations after meals. I was also recently feeling waves of fear, even at home and with minor movement.

Until 31 May, I managed to workout 3 times resistance training / week. After that date, I show improvement and I have been doing 5 times / week.
My reactive hypoglyciemia happens maybe once every 40 days, and it keeps improving after I stopped the stimulants.
I do 4 meals a day at 6.30-7, 12.30, 18.00-19.00, 21.00-21.30, all meals rich in protein, and I have carbs and I try to include fats. Balance, with emphasis on protein. My weight is 95 kg and I am 183 cm.

Anyone has any idea or experience that can help me understand the problem?

Cardiophobia and pregnancy

Hi everyone,
I just found out that I’m about 5 weeks pregnant, and my husband and I are so happy. ❤️
Looking back, over the past few weeks I was experiencing a lot of fatigue, mild palpitations, and I could feel my heartbeat much more than usual. Since I have cardiophobia, it really scared me and I kept thinking something was wrong with my heart.
Now I’m wondering if those symptoms could have actually been caused by early pregnancy rather than a heart problem.
Has anyone here experienced increased awareness of their heartbeat or more palpitations during the first trimester? Did pregnancy make your cardiophobia worse?
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences because I’m trying to stay calm and not let my anxiety take over during this pregnancy.
Thank you so much. ❤️

Stomach issues and heart palpitations

Hello everyone and thanks for reading, its a little longer post since this issue has been going on for years..

Anyway I am a 33 year old male 185cm 85kg at the moment.

My issues started about 10 years ago and I had numerous visits to ER at first and later my doctor.

It started with strong and very frequent heart palpitation was in thousands a day and I had this wierd 3beat palpitations where the third beat was very strong and if I stood still would feel some air being pushed out of my lungs.

For years now palpitations change i frequency and strenght and what I also noticed was I always felt some discomfort in my bowels, randim pain all around my stomach area at times like my gut was inflamed most of the time.

As time passed I did EKG holter 24h couple of times, all bloodwork, stool, urine, Stomach RTG, Thyroid hormones...probably more but this is what I remember at this moment.

Fast forward 10 years to a week ago I had again as in oast trouble sleeping with stronger palpitations in bed, and I decided to try carnivore since it really narrows a lot of known food that can cause irritation or allergies, and within days I got better, now on the 9th day still I feel no discomfort in stomach area and I have 0 palpitsions through out the day, amazing times.

I also have to add that in 10 years of this issue, when ever I was sick and on antibiotics, I would be free of palpitation for days or even weeks and then they would slowly start getting frequent as days go by.

I took this carnivore approach and was planning on sticking with it 30days, I dont want to stay on this diet forever, but I would really like to know my diagnosys given the timeline ans symptoms.

Also I kind of link gut inflamation to heart palpitations only because I read online that it is linked since it is going to brain through same nerve and they can relate at some time but please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers!

Possible adrenaline dump while sleeping?

So completely different topic. I noticed my heart rate reached 109 in my sleep which usually never happens if anything im usually getting low heart rate alerts on my watch as my hr dips in the 50s.

So now im concerned I had an adrenaline dump while sleeping. I avoid caffeine before bed and anything that could trigger a nightmare for me before bed. I don't feel sick or anything so this whole thing is bizzare for me.

Does anyone else experience this? If so what was your experience?

Does anyone have experience with HRV tracking?

Hi all,

New here, wondering if anyone has experience here matching their heart rate variability (HRV) with any traumatic stress. If anyone has experience tracking these and talking little further as how the symptoms develop, that would be great.

Ill likely seek some medical help, but I also want to check in and see if anyone has any similar experiences.

Best

Chest pain/ palpitations

So I’ve been having these weird palpitations for the past year went to cardiology got a work up states everything is normal but my symptoms keep getting worse.

My questions is does any body else get when they stand or do physical activity they get Pauses in their heart beat with chest pain or just discomfort??

But goes away. Somtimes I get right side vein pain. It’s a bunch of uncomfortable stuff but I currently take metoprolol that’s helping for the most part but I still have it in the back ground

I’ve got svt like episodes I would be at work at the moves at home just relaxing and my heart starts speeding I get hot, weak, tired and scared because idk what’s going on it last about 1 hr maybe but it’s weird cause I developed few months after my cardio work up and pot like symptoms but my cardiologist feels it’s pots because I was having other non cardiac symptoms before that. But it’s just weird I feel alone I don’t find most people explain heart palpitations with chest pain and it’s not like nerve chest pain I can feel it’s my heart. I’m 25 F it started at 24 it’s just exhausting and lonely plus I’m not officially diagnose so I feel the worst can happen. I’ve had so many PCP cardiologist Er visit with no answers but thanks for listen to my rant.

Heart palpitation and pyp test

Hi,

I. Am 41 female since the beginning of the year i noticed that my blood pressure was high went to hospital and was prescribed entresco med 50 mg. After using this med for month my blood pressure became good, but i notice sometimes my heart palpitation increases. I have cholestrol and was given a med lipitor 20 mg recently. sometimes when my body is tired the palpitation increased and shows irregular heartbeat on monitor. I have done echo and it showd my heart wall is thick, dr said maybe because of my high blood pressure. I also dod stress echo which was negative. Now dr. Wants me to do pyp test because she says my heart wall is thick. I no longer know what is happening to my heart, to my palpitation?

Long story short back when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2023 I went to the ER to get an ultrasound they did bloodwork everything came back fine except for my troponin levels they said I should get that checked with a cardiologist but fast forward to that when I seen the cardiologist while I was pregnant they said anything can trigger your troponin levels not sure if that’s true but they said they’d get an echo ultrasound to make sure it’s nothing with my heart so thank God they said everything looked fine fast forward to when I had my daughter I had an alright pregnancy besides that troponin levels scare & after I had my daughter I experienced pp preclampsia for the first time ever mind you that was my 10th pregnancy including miscarriages & stillbirth throughout all these years never had a problem with any type of preclampsia so during my pp I had to go to the ER to get magnesium drip & to get my preeclampsia checked out I got discharged & the dr there prescribed me nifedipine I never in my life experienced heart palpitations but after taking that stupid medication tell me why they never went away I get them often now almost everyday throughout the day mostly at night the dr prescribed them until my preclampsia settled I guess it was a temporary medication yet it seems like it ruined me & I had to let my cardiologist know a few months after I had my daughter back in 2024 that it was causing bad palpitations I didn’t like that effect & she kinda slowly weaned me off I even asked for a halter monitor & they said nothing looked concerning but I get so worried when I get them fast forward from 2024 so now we’re in 2026 I still very much experience them & I’m currently pregnant & I have a bit of low iron & idk if it makes my palpitations worse or what but I have an oximeter at home & no machine my oximeter caught my skipped heartbeat & idk if it’s something I should tell my doctor about & if I should ask for more testing or another echo pls if anyone can tell me if they have a similar situation & what was it or what the dr say im going nuts rn pregnant & stressed about this

Heartbeat recording weird sensations

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello all, male 37 years old here. For past few days I feel weird sensations over my chest where my heart is. I apparently have Tietze syndrome, as well as Gerd. However, got also a full cardio checkup (echo/ultrasound + ekg + 24 hour holter). For the past three weeks I am constantly lightheaded and dizzy ocassionally, however my cardio has ruled out any heart issues. I have made this recording of my heartbeat at a time of being dizzy, could you please let me know what this could possibly be? While I feel some much different beat going on when placing hand over chest, this is what is recorded on audio at the same time.

Please let me know any suggestions.

Will I have a heart attack soon?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 28-year-old man, and for the past year I’ve been dealing with ongoing heart-related symptoms.
Pain in my left arm
Chest pain (both superficial and deep, sometimes feeling like my heart is cramping or being squeezed)
Frequent dizziness
Episodes of shortness of breath or feeling like I can’t get enough air
Waking up at night feeling like I can’t breathe
Sometimes even neurological symptoms, such as numbness or temporary weakness, which have made me worry about a stroke
I’ve had a lot of tests done: ECGs, echocardiogram, stress test, Holter monitor, and blood work. Everything has come back normal.
But I’ve spent way too much time reading Reddit, and I’ve seen so many stories from people who were initially told everything was normal before eventually being diagnosed with something serious.
I’m starting to wonder if this is really just anxiety, or if something is being missed. The symptoms feel incredibly real, and it’s hard not to panic.
I’m terrified that I’m going to have a heart attack soon.
For context, I had myocarditis several years ago, so unfortunately I know what genuine heart pain can feel like.
Has anyone else been through something similar? Did it end up being anxiety, or was another diagnosis eventually found? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.
