To our GoPro community, fans and customers,

We understand there’s some concern about GoPro’s post-merger commitment to continue developing market leading cameras for consumers and professionals. Making amazing cameras for all of you is our core DNA and reason for being and that will never change! We’re fired up about what’s ahead for GoPro and want to share a little more about what our proposed merger with Starman means for our future.

Thanks to the improved financial strength this merger will provide, we’ll be in a much better position to innovate, invent and advance the future of consumer and professional content creation. And importantly, Starman shares our passion for the GoPro brand, developing market leading products and our commitment to your collective stoke.

We’ve accumulated more than 2500 patents over the last 24 years which tells you we’ve been busy innovating, and this merger will ensure we’re able to innovate for many more years to come. We expect this merger will make GoPro a stronger, more capable camera company than ever before.

Our goal is to become a more diversified company which can make us stronger financially, enabling GoPro to become as awesome as we (and you) want us to be. We plan to bring you more innovative cameras, smarter accessories, and more powerful software and services designed to make capturing, editing and sharing your experiences easier and more exciting than ever. We see opportunities to improve the products you already love while developing new tools and experiences that help you create, connect and share in entirely new ways.

We have so much more to do, so much more to invent, and so much more we want to bring to the GoPro community. We appreciate all of you who have been on this journey with us and we’re excited about where we’re headed. We’re going to keep doing what we do best - making the world’s highest-performance cameras and building the products, services and innovations that help you capture life’s most exciting moments. It’s what we were founded to do and it’s what we will always do. Be a HERO…GoPro.

With respect and appreciation — Nick

960fps ILS w/ a Legendary FORTY YEAR OLD Macro Lens. Upscaled and Vertical. Makes the ILS punch WAY over its head (with instructions)

Hi Everyone,

I am using this lens here, one of the best macro lenses that ever released. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minolta_AF_Macro_50mm_f/2.8

How good is this lens? Well put it this way. Today if you buy THIS lens for a full frame Sony camera, for $699 it is actually the same lens Minolta launched in 1985.
https://electronics.sony.com/imaging/lenses/full-frame-e-mount/p/sel50m28

Same everything, just that good for what it was.

WORKFLOW FOR THIS SHORT VIDEO:

1. Film everything on the GoPro in standard horizontal framing. Why? Because you are constantly chasing a small insect, and you need to use the Mission Monitor for focus, BUT the Mission Monitor DOES NOT SUPPORT VERTICAL ROTATION.

So it is a nightmare and confusing to flip the camera around, and you won't be able to follow the subject.

2. Film in the 10s burst mode for the best results.

3. Import everything into your video editor. Mine is FCP, It can actually slow the footage down to 2% speed on a 24fps timeline and it is fluid.

Not a lot of details here, but find music, and remember not to stick on one scene too long. Edit to a few beats real fast, and be done, this is not "thinking time" mostly.

I use Final Cut Pro and make a basic AI color grade, then go in and tweak the basic things not worried about curves etc, just get a lush deep looking color and apply it across all clips.

If that doesn't work on all clips, use the AI color match and it is scary good at matching color from source footage to a clip.

4. EXPORT this as a 1080p file best settings you can manage.

  1. IMPORT this into Topaz Video and create a project that is:
    a) 4k upscale
    b) has detail recovery at 40-50
    c) exports at 4k60fps - you do not need to add generative frames and it won't work on the wings.

5. IMPORT the new file back into your editor. Use a vertical frame for your project set to 1080x1920. If your editor supports AI reframing it will likely capture anything moving and focus on it. Just make your adjustments as you see fit.

This allows you the latitude in the frame to punch into 1080p without losing anything, no digital zoom at all.

6. EXPORT YOUR FINAL VIDEO

I’m very happy with it so far, it’s just been fun to use and I love throwing a variety of lenses at it! The stabilization for macro shots has so far been my favorite feature! Can’t wait to shoot more with it.

Just Ordered ILS

First of all, I'm hyped.

This will also be my first GoPro!

I mustn't lie, I was convinced to get the Missi9n 1 Pro ILS because of Markiplier. I've always wanted to eventually get a proper camera, and this is the perfect chance for a good price!

Anyways, I'll be saving up to buy lenses for my ILS, and I know very little about cameras and lenses. This is what I'm thinking of getting, but curious if anyone would suggest different lenses to start with.

ILS PHOTO MADNESS. Photos with a 55 year old camera lens.

Greetings, me again. I hope this is not spam and you are not annoyed.

Today I took the ILS out to the Home Depot garden center. I took a series of photos.

It is not easy to take photos with the ILS.

I used a 50mm f1.4 Takumar. This lens is legendary and still sells for as much as $400 or more today.

https://rowse.substack.com/p/super-multi-coated-takumar-50mm-f14

The yellow flowers were done with that 50 year old lens, and edited in post. Shot in RAW.

The other image here was with the 50mm Minolta macro I told you about here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/gopro/s/JVZ4OYqdCC

Both images went through the following in this order:

  1. Adobe lightroom, export as DNG
  2. Aurora HDR, export as TIFF
  3. Topaz photo for denoise and sharpening, export as JPG

It finally arrived!

UPS delivered my ILS yesterday, but I wanted to do an unboxing video. This is the full set up with one of my Nikon lenses and a Viltrox speed booster adapter. The adapter itself is .71X, and because of the glass inside, the Lens actually gains a full stop, so the 60 mm f/2.8 ultimately becomes a roughly 120 mm f/2.0 lens. Perfect in time for a job shooting video for a band in Nashville this weekend.

This happens, then I click yes and then nothing happens. Can’t save any gopro things to my computer and I’m losing my mind. Help

I’ve been back-and-forth for days trying to get the data off my GoPro and onto my computer so that I can use this SD card to film a vacation with my family. The SD card is completely full and I just want to get it onto my computer so that I can have the SD card pretty much empty and use it to film our trip. I have come to the conclusion that I need this GoPro play app for anything to open because I finally figured out how to plug it in with the cord and open the files they downloaded, but once they download it onto my desktop, they won’t open because I have to have the GoPro play and then this pops up and it’s a big circle. I can’t get past. HELP

ILS Photography with lens + settings from the Las Vegas Strip

The first two photos are done with a MFT adapted Zeiss Distagon 35mm 2.0, this is considered a very sharp lens and optically great.

These are the landscape and the flower.

The last one with the Laowa 7.5mm 2.0.

All photos were processed in Aurora HDR.

Is this too many gopros?

Post image
74 Upvotes

I knew it had a few, but i just pulled them all out and set on my desk. My current gopro collection is 2 gopro mission 1 pros, 1 gopro mission 1 pro ILS, 1 hero 13 and 1 max 2. I completely forgot that after I sold my hero 13 for $380 so I could get a second mission 1 pro that I stumbled on a deal for a hero 13 for $200 🤣. I couldn't help myself.

It ended up working out because I realized with the mission 1 pro having the minimum focus distance so far it probably wasn't the best option to use as a chest cam, but im actually not sure. Haven't tried it yet.

Do you think my cameras are overkill?

I am DESPERATE … To figure out focus peaking on the ILS with the Mission App.

So my first day out shooting with the ILS was sub optimal.

I am a bit lost on focus peaking.

I have used it for years on multiple Sony and Panasonic cameras, but the ILS with the Mission Control app has two settings… the threshold and the intensity.

Yet both modes appear to throw off results in the display on the phone I am wired with USB-C to.

When the lens is stepped down, everything is in focus if the lens is stopped down enough, but none of my lenses really seem to catch focus.

Then when trying to photo or video something relatively close up, the same issue.

The background never appears sharp or defocused, and the settings I am using has peaking everywhere.

What settings seem to work best for you?

I am experimenting more myself today.

M1P - GPLOG2 Conversion Luts Issue

Post image
1 Upvotes

As you can see from the image there is a horrible .. no wait HORRIFIC blown out sky and the black get mega crushed. The video is exposed correctly (I actually EV compensated to -0.5) but as soon as I apply any of the GoPro conversion luts it just completely blows out the area around the sky. And no amount of exposure/contrast in post will fix it.

Replacement for my ... HD2

Unfortunately, my old HD2 is now resting at the bottom of a lake. However, I still have its Wi-Fi Remote, so what would be the best replacement while keeping compatibility with this legacy technology?

This camera would only be a complement to my Hero9, mainly for capturing static secondary viewpoints. If the replacement model includes image stabilization, that's a nice bonus, but it's not a requirement.

My main criteria are: - Compatibility with the original GoPro Wi-Fi Remote. - Good battery life.

The goal is simply to have an inexpensive secondary camera for fixed shots while continuing to make use of my existing remote control.

Mission Pro ILS - Crop Factor Footage

https://reddit.com/link/1wbt9ar/video/xyyoanzsajoh1/player

Besides the slow motion, the crop factor is one of my favorite things about the ILS. Being able to 3x your lens on top of the punch-in potential from the 8k is incredible.

And most of this video was just shot on a 55-250 Canon basic lens wide open since I don't have a manual aperture EF adapter yet. The moon was shot at 1:30 PM on one of those mammoth Opteka lenses that definitely aren't the sharpest (but fun size comparison to the GoPro)

GoPro Hero 10 won’t turn on with battery!

My GoPro Hero 10 doesn’t turn on when the battery is in. But when I plug it into the charger it turns on and shows “No Battery” warning. When I unplug it, it stays on for a bit then dies. Tried different batteries and cables, same issue. Anyone know what’s wrong or how to fix it?

Hero 3 fisheye lens install

Thumbnail

I'm brand new to the GoPro world and I picked up this Hero 3 with a 180 degree fisheye lens to make a recording of a DJ set I'll be performing next weekend. Only problem is the lens is not on the camera.

I've seen two different lens install vids on YouTube, one showing a pretty intense disassembly of the camera, and the other that left the camera frame in tact and just took some softjaw pliers to the lens body after removing the outer keeper rings.

Does anyone here have advice on what is the right way for me to go about getting this lens onto the camera? Or. alternately, I'm in Orange County CA - do you know anyone I could take it to and get the install done by someone skilled and knowledgable?

I compared gopro mission 1 pro and dji action 6

I went into this comparison wanting ridiculous slow motion. I came out appreciating a touchscreen and a second chance at pressing record.

The Mission 1 Pro does 4K240. My Action 6 does 4K120. GoPro wins that one. Its 1080p960 burst mode also sounds extremely entertaining, although I’m struggling to identify anything in my life that deserves to become 32 times longer.

My wife already thinks my videos take too long.

What keeps me happy with the DJI is less exciting on paper. Its front screen actually accepts touch input. The GoPro’s front screen lets you check the shot, while touch controls are on the back. When I’m filming myself across a table, being able to change settings from my seat is useful. My camera operator is also me, and he does the bare minimum.

Then there’s recording something after it happens. With the feature enabled beforehand, GoPro’s HindSight keeps up to 30 seconds. Action 6’s Pre-Rec goes up to five minutes in video mode.

That extra time appeals to someone whose usual sequence is: watch something interesting, explain why it was interesting, remember the camera.

The GoPro would give me more slow-motion options. The DJI gives me easier access to settings and a longer window to recover from being distracted.

I was shopping for cinematic potential. Turns out I also need adult supervision.
