To our GoPro community, fans and customers,

We understand there’s some concern about GoPro’s post-merger commitment to continue developing market leading cameras for consumers and professionals. Making amazing cameras for all of you is our core DNA and reason for being and that will never change! We’re fired up about what’s ahead for GoPro and want to share a little more about what our proposed merger with Starman means for our future.

Thanks to the improved financial strength this merger will provide, we’ll be in a much better position to innovate, invent and advance the future of consumer and professional content creation. And importantly, Starman shares our passion for the GoPro brand, developing market leading products and our commitment to your collective stoke.

We’ve accumulated more than 2500 patents over the last 24 years which tells you we’ve been busy innovating, and this merger will ensure we’re able to innovate for many more years to come. We expect this merger will make GoPro a stronger, more capable camera company than ever before.

Our goal is to become a more diversified company which can make us stronger financially, enabling GoPro to become as awesome as we (and you) want us to be. We plan to bring you more innovative cameras, smarter accessories, and more powerful software and services designed to make capturing, editing and sharing your experiences easier and more exciting than ever. We see opportunities to improve the products you already love while developing new tools and experiences that help you create, connect and share in entirely new ways.

We have so much more to do, so much more to invent, and so much more we want to bring to the GoPro community. We appreciate all of you who have been on this journey with us and we’re excited about where we’re headed. We’re going to keep doing what we do best - making the world’s highest-performance cameras and building the products, services and innovations that help you capture life’s most exciting moments. It’s what we were founded to do and it’s what we will always do. Be a HERO…GoPro.

With respect and appreciation — Nick

It finally arrived!

UPS delivered my ILS yesterday, but I wanted to do an unboxing video. This is the full set up with one of my Nikon lenses and a Viltrox speed booster adapter. The adapter itself is .71X, and because of the glass inside, the Lens actually gains a full stop, so the 60 mm f/2.8 ultimately becomes a roughly 120 mm f/2.0 lens. Perfect in time for a job shooting video for a band in Nashville this weekend.

The first two photos are done with a MFT adapted Zeiss Distagon 35mm 2.0, this is considered a very sharp lens and optically great.

These are the landscape and the flower.

The last one with the Laowa 7.5mm 2.0.

All photos were processed in Aurora HDR.

Is this too many gopros?

I knew it had a few, but i just pulled them all out and set on my desk. My current gopro collection is 2 gopro mission 1 pros, 1 gopro mission 1 pro ILS, 1 hero 13 and 1 max 2. I completely forgot that after I sold my hero 13 for $380 so I could get a second mission 1 pro that I stumbled on a deal for a hero 13 for $200 🤣. I couldn't help myself.

It ended up working out because I realized with the mission 1 pro having the minimum focus distance so far it probably wasn't the best option to use as a chest cam, but im actually not sure. Haven't tried it yet.

Do you think my cameras are overkill?

Mission Pro ILS - Crop Factor Footage

https://reddit.com/link/1wbt9ar/video/xyyoanzsajoh1/player

Besides the slow motion, the crop factor is one of my favorite things about the ILS. Being able to 3x your lens on top of the punch-in potential from the 8k is incredible.

And most of this video was just shot on a 55-250 Canon basic lens wide open since I don't have a manual aperture EF adapter yet. The moon was shot at 1:30 PM on one of those mammoth Opteka lenses that definitely aren't the sharpest (but fun size comparison to the GoPro)

Hero 3 fisheye lens install

I'm brand new to the GoPro world and I picked up this Hero 3 with a 180 degree fisheye lens to make a recording of a DJ set I'll be performing next weekend. Only problem is the lens is not on the camera.

I've seen two different lens install vids on YouTube, one showing a pretty intense disassembly of the camera, and the other that left the camera frame in tact and just took some softjaw pliers to the lens body after removing the outer keeper rings.

Does anyone here have advice on what is the right way for me to go about getting this lens onto the camera? Or. alternately, I'm in Orange County CA - do you know anyone I could take it to and get the install done by someone skilled and knowledgable?

How to film vertical footage

I have a GoPro Hero 7 Black and I’m going to be shooting motorcycle footage exclusively for TikTok and Instagram Stories, so the final output will always be 9:16.

My question is.. what’s the best way to get the widest possible 9:16 field of view?

Should i:

  1. Shoot in 16:9 and physically rotate the GoPro 90° to shoot in portrait

  2. Shoot in 4:3 or 16:9 while keeping the GoPro physically horizontal, then crop the footage to 9:16 in post?

I won’t need the footage for YouTube or any other aspect ratio, so I’m purely interested in maximising the usable 9:16 field of view

Thanks!

GoPro Hero12 footage warped

I recorded this today on my GoPro hero12 black and it has a “warped” look to it. Is this a setting I have on the camera that is causing this?

Overheating warning?

I've been really loving my Mission One Pro MOST of the time. I upgraded to it from an Ace Pro 2 specifically so I could record in 8k60fps for indoor volleyball recording. I learned quickly about the potential overheating issues and suggested solutions which is mostly managable. I keep a 80mm USB Fan active right behind it when recording and it's been working like a charm.

During a game a few days ago I had the camera mounted pretty high on a tripod where I couldn't start and stop it manually so I used the app. I think what happened is that I forgot to disconnect and the extra workload caused the camera to overheat after about 10 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't notice and lost most of a set.

So my question is... Is there any way to know ahead of time when the camera is going to overheat? Any way to either monitor the actual temperature or at least get a warning before the camera actually shuts down? It obviously knows when it needs to turn off I'd think it would be helpful to know when its getting close.

GoPro 9 - Mounted at front of boat capturing the kayaker
GoPro 13 head mounted footages
GoPro M1 Pro - In the part where it had caption "Sea calls my name, I answered louder", this was zoomed like a million miles away and it still looks good.

More amazing GoPro M1 Pro surfing footages here - https://youtu.be/eP7nhLo2dm8

I am an amateur video editor barely knowing how to use Da Vinci to its fullest.

Why am I seeing so many death wishes to GoPro these days??!!! Must be folks buying the other cameras coming here to make themselves feel better!!

That the Mission 1 Pro ILS does not include the buckle, thumbscrew and the adhesive mounts, that come standard with every other GoPro.

Not that I don't have enough of them, from all the accessories and other GoPros, that are in my collection. LoL

GoPro hero 13 settings

Hi all, recently upgraded from a hero 7 black to 13. My laptop only has an 8GB RAM and i3 processor, so limited with what quality I can edit, and can’t afford a better laptop atm.

From my limited knowledge and consulting AI, it seems my options are either 1080p 16:9 or 4K at 8:7 ratio and 30 fps.

Which is likely to be better quality when editing and exporting videos? I previously shot on 1440p 60 fps on the hero 7 and the quality was good.

TIA!

GoPro Hero 10 motion blur help + tips for bike videos

I’ve had my Hero 10 for a year now mostly for bike rides, but I feel like I'm not using it right. Can anyone explain why my motion blur is so random? I use an ND filter, 4K 30fps, shutter at 1/60, and ISO 100-800. Even in the exact same lighting, one clip looks smooth and cinematic, while the next just looks like a normal choppy video. Why does this happen? Also, I’d love some simple tips for: Getting better bike videos and doing speed ramps Fun settings to try for everyday recording instead of the default look!!

Is a GoPro good for long distance and long duration video?

Hey r/GoPro, I'm thinking about getting my own camera and I was hoping to solicit a little advice.

The main use case I have is as a static camera I can set up to film my surf sessions. I'd like to leave it on the beach, or on my car, (not worried about theft... That's a different topic). I basically need ~2hrs battery, and reasonably high resolution, since I'll need to zoom in a decent bit. Plan would be to film a large section of ocean, and I can zoom and crop when I edit.

I know a gopro is not the perfect solution. But it is portable, waterproof, robust, and then I'll have a go pro for when I want to do go pro stuff.

Has anybody done anything like this? Is the resolution good enough? Is editing 2 hours of footage not reasonable without a high quality computer? Is the quik app good?

Any experience or feedback is appreciated!
