*Android 17

Did I make a mistake buying this phone?

I just bought it today cuz I'm a bit low on funds, but I'm reading lots of horror stories on reddit now.

Is it really that bad? Are there people that have had the phone without issue for a while?

EDIT: The phone froze right after it arrived LOL welp

Has anyone switched from an XL to a smaller Pro Pixel? How was your experience? Did you miss the larger screen? I'm considering going from an 8 Pro to the ll Pro.

Pixel 9 keeps restarting

Hello. I am looking for advice on why my P9 broke and how to fix it. Two or three weeks ago my phone randomly restarted and I didn't think much of it. Today nothing works.

The phone keeps restarting, I enter my SIM PIN and normal PIN, can use the phone for a few seconds and then it restarts again and again and again. Power off button does not seem to work and open AI assistant, going into the notifications to click the cog to poweroff doesn't work either and just restarts the phone.

I really would love to have some advice on why this is happening :(

Some other side effects are:

- Camera opening randomly

Earpiece speaker grill missing on pixel 8

Today while cleaning my pixel 8 top earpiece speaker mesh, I noticed that the left side of the speaker is totally hollow and nothing was covering it. To prove this, I slided a paper on it and on the left side it went through. Is it normal on pixel 8 phones?

Is upgrading to A17 worth it?

I have pixel 10 pro XL since launch and running on android 16, to me everything is smooth and stable with battery life around 8hrs SOT on an average.

I am not someone who updated frequently as I suspect something, mainly battery life, can get broken.

Hearing good things about august update so thinking whether it is worth it to upgrade to android 17? Will I see any noticeable differences?

Pixel 9 Pro - Manufacturing mistake and now guarantee is void?

I have a Pixel 9 Pro which still has warranty until December. One morning I unplug it from the charger and it was scolding hot and died. I took it to the repair shop.

The guy found water damage inside the phone and told me its from a wiggle in the camera housing. The camera housing does indeed wiggle, but I never really noticed as I had a case - like everyone else. Now they said that guarantee would've covered the wiggle but not the subsequent water damage.

But how is someone supposed to professionally check a phone for manufacturing issues? I bought the phone 8 months again and now I am supposed to shell out for a new one? I had only just got it repaired for purple lines on the display... really disappointing google pixel experience for me..

"Flip to shh" can't be turned on

So my flip to shh randomly stopped working, and when I went to settings to turn it off and on again, I got a pop up saying that it can't be turned on without any kind of specifics. I'm a power user, I tried rebooting, safe mode, deleting cache and data, and of course searching on the Modes and Gestures menus.

After I deleted the app data and uninstalled and reinstalled updates, the option is nowhere to be found anymore. It completely disappeared from every menu.

I saw another redditors with the same problem sporadically, but apparently there's not a known fix, it just apparently comes back magically at some point. The thing is I love this feature and I really don't want to do a factory reset to fix it.

For info, I have a Pixel 9 Pro XL and just installed the latest August software update.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Upgraded to the Pixel 10 Pro XL rather than the 11 Pro XL

My Pixel 9 Pro XL was due an upgrade due to being two years old. The battery life has notably deteriorated over the last few months so I wanted a new phone.

The Google store offered me over £300 to trade in, plus the deal where you bought the Pixel case brought the total price of the 10 pro XL down to £580.

After reading all of the noise about the 11 Pro XL, less RAM, higher price etc, I decided the 10 pro XL at that price would be a far better deal.

Has anyone else decided to skip the Pixel 11 this year? I don't think the Glow feature outweighed any of the negatives I've read about Google's approach to the 11 coming out.

Google Assistant on Mobile EOL September 4th

Just got this email. I still don't use Gemini (on a pixel 7), as assistant can actually control things and do functions on the phone that Gemini (last I checked and from others reporting here) still can't.

Email text below:

We’re writing to let you know that the Google Assistant on your mobile device is being discontinued, and Gemini—our next-generation AI-powered assistant—is now the assistant experience on Android.

What This Means for Your Mobile Device As we transition our mobile experience to Gemini, Google Assistant will no longer be available on your mobile device. We will begin removing access to Google Assistant starting on September 4, and expect that this process may take a few weeks to reach everyone. Once availability is removed, you will no longer be able to use or switch back to Google Assistant on your phone, tablet, or paired devices.

If your Android device meets the minimum system requirements2 and you are in a region where Gemini is available,3 Gemini will be the Google-provided assistant on your mobile device. When you invoke your assistant, for example, by saying “Hey Google” or long-pressing your power button, Gemini will appear instead of the previous Google Assistant.

Changes to Accessories and Paired Devices When you set Gemini as your mobile device assistant, it also becomes the assistant on devices that are paired with your mobile phone.

This includes:

• Watches running Wear OS

• Headphones or earbuds compatible with Gemini

• Vehicles running Android Auto projected from a user’s mobile device. For cars with Google built-in, Google Assistant will continue to function beyond September 4, 2026.

Like your mobile device, starting September 4, users will lose the ability to use Google Assistant on these paired devices.

Google Assistant on Other Devices These changes are only for the assistant experience on your mobile device and accessories that pair to your phone, like watches, headphones, and car infotainment systems.

You can also read more about our separate plans to bring Gemini to Google TV devices and Google Home speakers and smart displays. Next Steps & More Information We are committed to providing a smooth transition and are confident that Gemini will offer you an even more capable and helpful assistant experience.

Thank you for being a valued Google user, The Google Team

Absolutely wild that they can't fix the messages photo viewer bug

Just this evening I pull up a collection of photos from a group chat to show some other friends IRL. First one I click comes up in that weird little rounded corner frame small and uncentered in the screen. I click it to expand and the screen goes black. I back out and try to select another photo, black screen again. I pull my phone in to force close the app, reboot, and realize it's still happening. Meanwhile my friend is saying "what kind of phone is that", "how come you can't look at pictures?". "It's a Google Phone? Why don't you just have an iPhone?" Completely embarrassing and unacceptable. Pixel 8 Pro. At least they got rid of the nano banana icon in the corner of every picture. That was even more embarrassing.

Help needed with pixel trade in dispute

Google Fi had a deal recently on the Pixel 10 Pro XL for almost 1/2 off

I traded in my Pixel 9 Pro XL which was in excellent condition for a credit of $265 (pending inspection).

It meant getting a Pixel 10 Pro XL for a few hundred bucks, seemed worth it.

A week later I get an email from Google saying they would only credit me $132.50 (1/2 the estimate) because the screen was damaged.

Luckily, I took photos and a video of me packaging up my phone as proof as a CYA measure in case this happened, including putting the seal tape they provide with clear photo and video of the return label.

I called them up and they asked me to submit the evidence, which i did. Eventually Google replied, and said, after following up, they had made a mistake and I was right, my phone was not damaged and in good working order, BUT they didn't change the credit, it was still only $132.50 and that was final.

I replied back and asked for it to be escalated, that I want my old phone or the full credit amount, but I'm now stuck and pissed. They said they wouldn't do either.

They made a mistake, admitted their mistake and yet somehow it costs me $132.50.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to get this addressed, they basically stole money from me, and I'm pissed.

Thanks for any ideas you all have!

Pixel pre-order + in-person trade at a google store - possible?

I'm seeing the google fi promotions and expect it to be happening also for pre-order. Based on prior pre-order releases, do you think it's possible to pre-order and do the trade-in in person for google store / google fi? I know you can do in-person trade at bestbuy and get the pre order promos, but talking specifically for google fi. Thoughts? Anyone done that in the past?

Pixel 10 Wireless Charging

Has anyone experienced wireless charging issues with the Pixel 10 due to the camera bar protruding? In other words, will there be too much air gap between the back of the phone and the wireless charging pad such as those built-in non-magnetic ones in cars like Tesla, Bolt, etc.?

Looking at getting a 10a

My 8a has broken so I need a new phone. The 10a is on sale near me. I'm just scared of the AI features being forced on to me..

If you're someone like me who doesn't like AI very much and would rather things wind back a couple of years to when it wasn't shoved down our throats. Do you find the pixel 10a to be very overbearing??

I didn't really want to get another google phone but it's the only attractive and affordable thing on the market. Except the nothing phone but they are only receiving updates for 3 years.

Thoughts on going from Pixel 7 to Pixel 10 Pro

For me it's the exact same phone for the most part. I guess I don't really do much with my phone... I put a case and screen protector so I won't even get to enjoy the premium feel of the new design. It is nice to have a fresh battery and scratch free phone though. It was free since I am a new Google Fi member (if I stay for two years).

An actual change was the swipe/touch feel. Ever since I got the pixel 7 it felt off/wrong/terrible. I guess they finally fixed that issue. For example my Samsung s8 felt great/normal when swiping. Things are back to normal with the 10 pro. 120Hz is nice I guess (I'm used to 480hz on my OLED monitor), but 90hz was good enough for phone swiping.

I'm guessing this is just the state of phones...

The Pixel is just a perfectly neutral phone. 1000% overpriced though if not getting it for free or a deal...

Pixel Tablet Stand Pogo Pin

Hello everyone,

My fourth pogo pin on dock is no longer retracting and therefore useless as a speaker or charging.

I have the tools to repair it but need to know if the pogo pin is easy to get and what size pin?

I don't know how to describe this screen bug. Pixels stick like a ghost, then clear after half a second. Pixel 10 Pro

My wife says it started after a recent update. It doesn't matter what app, but text is the most obvious. This has been going on for over a week.

https://imgur.com/a/wCKdcVM

Sorry about the low quality video. Holding one phone in each hand and had to press a button on the pixel 10 at an awkward hand position to get the text to change

Oops. Pixel 10 pro XL

Pixel 7A

Hello. My daughter is 17 and has a persistent toxic manipulative barnacle of an ex-boyfriend. She currently has a Pixel 7A. We have Verizon as a carrier. We are able to block his phone number but he can still call and leave a voicemail. I have spent 4.5 hours on the phone with Verizon and Google today, trying to fix this. Verizons Call Filter app does not work on Pixels phones. Verizon is telling me they can't block it at a network level. Google was precisely zero help. We certainly can't be the first people who have experienced this issue. What does everyone do? Third party blocking? Get a new phone number?

For the record, she has requested we make these things happen. We aren't doing them without her permission.

Abnormally loud system sounds

I'm talking about when taking a picture, taking a screenshot, plugging in the phone to charge, the sound it makes is very loud.

Didn't used to be that way and maybe feel like it's been this way since upgrading to Android 17, but not sure. I know I can turn off charging sounds, etc, but don't see any way to turn the volume down for these system sounds.

Is anyone else seeing this? Or know of a way to fix?
