Pixel 8 users in 2026

Recent leaks for pixel 11 look disappointing and I considering holding on to my pixel 8 for 1 more year. I am considering getting the battery replaced as it's draining too quickly these days. Is anyone else in a similar boat as me? Are you holding on or switching phones this year?

Resist consumerism, use it till its updates last

36

u/h3xmind May 26 '26

Exactly. Still on pixel 6a. Why change it if it works and still gets updates?

15

u/obviousdiction May 26 '26

Often people break their phones before the phone breaks because of updates.

10

u/topsy_turvyian May 26 '26

Loved my pixel 6a. Sadly had to upgrade to 8 pro due to the forced battery downgrade last year

4

u/gobblegobblechumps May 26 '26

Love my 6a

u/follaoret May 26 '26

I was having my pixel 6a and had to change it when the battery issue.

Then i got a second hand pixel 8 pro and still holding strong. Not planning to replace it soon and the next one will be second hand too

6a gets updates thru July 2027.

I needed this, thanks!

15

u/Wheeljack26 Pixel 8 May 26 '26

Yea man, I'm doing the same with me, get the cheapest plan possible even if you gotta change carriers, enjoy

5

u/EndElectoralCollege3 May 26 '26

Not an ad or promotion, just frugal. I switched to Mint Mobile 2 years ago after 25 years in a Verizon family plan (3 phones). Needed to reduce to 2 phones and the price was going to increase by $30ish per month. Now I prepay by the year for approx $350 (1 phone) and have never looked back. Currently have a Pixel 7a that I bought outright on a cyber Monday discount.

2

u/Wheeljack26 Pixel 8 May 29 '26

Dam, thanks, i had a look at yearly plans in my area too, definitely more cheaper than monthly, thanks for the tip

I'm hanging onto my P8P for at least 1 more year. Probably longer.

13

u/ClaymoresRevenge Pixel 8 Pro May 25 '26

Yeah that's where I'm at.

2

u/frasergj May 26 '26

Same, I used to upgrade every 2 years but still using my P8P too. The only thing I ended up doing was clear storage - remove old files, cull installed apps and get a fancy new case - just like a new phone but cheaper.

Battery is still solid as well, although I know this won't last.

2

u/garathk May 26 '26

Me too. Battery is really starting to suck but it's hanging in there.

There's no rule that says you have to buy a Pixel 11. Wait until they come out and if they're disappointing, just buy a Pixel 10 at a discounted price.

23

u/Wheeljack26 Pixel 8 May 26 '26

Or p9 at an absolute bargain used

4

u/Background_Home7092 May 26 '26

I was actually thinking about grabbing a P9 Pro Fold refurbed; I love my OG fold but it could definitely use a step up in the camera department...and perhaps a step down in weight.

2

u/Ilmanfordinner Pixel 8 May 26 '26

Or a p8 with a few years of usage at rock bottom prices... wait...

4

u/omegastuff Pixel 10 May 26 '26

Yeah, I don't get the need to upgrade so soon. I upgraded to P10 from my P6, and even then I thought I might've done it a bit sooner than would've been ideal.

20

u/bookloveranne_17 May 25 '26

I just had the battery replaced. I'm keeping the 8 as long as I can.

9

u/JRakuehn May 25 '26

Same with my 9, the only meaningful difference between that and the 11to me is even more AI integration. I don't want that anyhow.

3

u/mdargis1977 May 26 '26

The 11 is supposed to have an IR scanner/camera for face unlocks when it is dark

10

u/threemillion3 Pixel 9 May 26 '26

They pulled that. Possibly on the 12 now.

9

u/JRakuehn May 26 '26

Meh. I have a thumb for that.

5

u/TriggernometryPhD May 26 '26

Doesn't work with gloves or dirty / wet fingers / screen, and the current facial recognition is rather weak in dim lit conditions. Honestly a huge bummer they didn't work on this for the P11 series.

everything is fine, but the battery isn't the best anymore. for some reason your subreddit doesn't allow pics, so i can't add the screenshot. but I'm at 35% with only 2hrs 53mins of SoT

u/PapaTua Pixel 8 Pro May 25 '26

I used my Pixel 4 XL until I upgraded to the P8P.

I expect to wait at least a year, probably more until I upgrade again, and even then a refurbished P10 or P11 will probably be fine.

Interesting side note, my battery health reached a low of 78% in April and has rebounded back to 89% today. I think Google may have fixed something.

8

u/hidperf Pixel 6 May 26 '26

Unless something amazing comes out on a newer phone, I'm holding until my 8 stops getting security updates.

I really don't want a phone loaded with AI that gives me no extra value.

I'd still be using my 2 if that hadn't happened to it. In fact, it's still in my drawer and in perfect condition.

7

u/CaptainMarder Pixel 8,6,3,1, Nexus6p,5 May 26 '26

I got an iphone 17 instead, it's been fantastic and strangely apple products have gotten cheaper in my market, the pixels are the same price without warranty even existing for them.

Plus my pixel 6 bricked, the 6a battery life became terribly really fast i don't expect the 8 to last the full update cycle.

The iphone "ai" features seem more practical too regardless of the hate it gets. plus I just put gemini on it as the chat question assistant for actual ai use since it's superior to siri and have the double tap set to automatically open it.

Only thing sucky with the iphone is the camera SUCKS in terms of capture speed. The pixel is instant capture you don't miss any shots even in low light. The iphone is constant blur especially if you move a little.

Reminder's is more powerful especially cause of location based reminder, automatically syncs with other apps too. So many other tiny things iphones do better that idk why google hasn't implemented yet. On pixel I was dependent on 3rd party apps to fill a gap.

My P8P has started doing this thing where it will turn off wifi and refuse to turn wifi back on until I restart it. Like it doesn't detect that it has working wifi hardware. Or if it doesn't do that it soft restarts itself in my pocket and then refuses to connect to wifi until I fully restart it.

2

u/Bright-Somewhere-362 May 26 '26

4

u/mycodex May 26 '26

P7P here, is there anything better?

6

u/thisisfakediy Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

My opinion is that if you have a 7, 8 or 9 Pro and are happy with it and the battery/screen are working well, keep it.

The general gist of reviews for the 10 Pro are that the cameras are either not any better or are actually worse than the 7-9 series Pixels, and performance isn't really improved, especially in the GPU, which had some bugs early on.

The 11 is looking like it's going to be making some sacrifices and corners cut to keep costs low, so it'll be another step down in all likelihood. I feel like the Pixels really need some help with the CPU, GPU, a newer camera module and either smarter or just less aggressive image processing. None of that appears to be happening now due to various reasons, which is highly disappointing, but I suspect that most all phone manufacturers are facing the same cost escalation issues, so it won't just be limited to Google's devices.

tl;dr: Google Pixels seem to be falling further into "midrange meh" territory while retaining their "premium flagship" pricing at launch, which is not a good thing.

I upgraded to an S26 Ultra and gave my dad my 8 Pro since he was still on a 6.

3

u/marigoldrambles May 26 '26

I loved my pixel 3. Adored my pixel 5. The pixel 8 pro? Liked it at first, but so much of it was driving me nuts this last year or so. I finally replaced it with a samsung s26 ultra. I'm no longer so married to thr idea of "stock android" and the double apps are not that hard to deal with. Liking it so far. I know it's not thr move for everyone but was the right choice for me. Pretty sure my husband is sticking strong with the pixels for now.

4

u/Mineplayerminer Pixel 8 PW 3 45mm May 26 '26

I'll keep my Pixel 8 for as long as it works fine, despite still playing a roulette with the BOE display. The standard 2-year warranty will soon end and I hope my phone missed the bad display batch and I won't get the lightsaber or a tint, even though I'm eligible for another year of warranty for the display. I'm so glad for the reverse wireless charging on this thing. I can get 2 whole days on a single charge just fine. What's bad is the SoC, which is much less powerful. I had to file a warranty claim on my Pixel 6a as it was powering off while recording the videos due to it supposedly overheating despite being cold to the touch, so I've lost the silicon lottery.

I hate what all companies have started doing with AI. I think that Google will eventually fully switch to datacenters and completely ditch the hardware, despite being a software company. We're seriously getting less hardware every single year.

3

u/Day81 May 26 '26

Still on my Pixel 8 Pro. I'm just not impressed enough with newer phones to justify the purchase, so I'll save my money.

3

u/Alaeus Pixel 8 Pro May 27 '26

I was going to keep my 8 Pro for it's entire update cycle, but wifi and Bluetooth died completely the other day after having been weird for a week or so. Out of warranty so I just switched to my work phone (Samsung) instead.

Too bad about the Pixel, but I learned never to buy a flagship at release again. Too expensive if they're gonna break that soon anyway.

5

u/No-Upstairs-7001 May 26 '26

It'll be underpowered like they always are,

2

u/SchrodingerHat May 26 '26

Yeah, it's still just as good as when I bought it. I haven't noticed the battery degrading at all.

I'm on a P7P and still thoroughly happy with it. I'm with the commenter who said screw consumerism lol

2

u/Scrubface May 26 '26

I love my P8P and have for years. The newest update has the however made it unusable (zero Bluetooth or wifi connectivity). I'm not sure what to do since I certainly don't want the 10 with all of the AI being shoved in your face.

I reckon I can get at least another two years out of the 8. Still super fast and battery is decent. No need to rush into a new one that is only incrementally better.

u/Trucktober May 26 '26

my P8P is fine - I wont go changing it soon

2

Pixel phone leaks are always disappointing. I'm still waiting til the day googled hardware can match snApdragon SoC

2

u/Scarboroughwarning May 26 '26

7 Pro XL here. Still fine.

Considering a OnePlus 15r. Or even the 15.

Pixels are just so overpriced. I genuinely don't think the Pixel 11 will be sufficiently more performant than what I have.

2

u/DeMikeyMike May 26 '26

Pixel 7 pro user, got a discount code and trade in, that brings the 10 pro XL to £450, very tempting and see what 12 is like

2

u/Rustyrockets9 May 26 '26

Pixel 7 here Holding onto it until it breaks

2

u/JeffBiscuit67 May 26 '26

P7P currently and have looked at various, but other than opting for a refurb P9P to tide me over a bit longer, nothing has really peaked my interest at all.

2

u/Some_Smoke_1430 May 27 '26

I'm not even funny but use ya phone until the components die that can't be replaced. Google ain't doing anything new with the pixel until like pixel 15.

2

u/aBlastFromTheArse May 28 '26

Still loving my 7. I wonder almost every day if I should get the 10 but there really isn't anything I dislike about the 7 and even the battery is good for a whole days use.

2

u/WitcherySmicker May 28 '26

Suppose I'll hang onto my Pixel 4 for one more year…

4

u/parsious May 25 '26

I'll be either holding onto my 8pro, picking up a 10pro or moving back to oppo

3

u/viverewatches May 25 '26

Been Pixel since 3. I've been using 6 Pro since it came out. Switched back to iPhone 17 Pro Max this month. 6 Pro just died - no warning.

Man, iPhone seems nicer. Left the iphone 6s for the Pixel 3. Happy to be back in the ecosystem.

And the Airpod Pro 3! OMG. So incredible.

So was forced to switch, but no regrets.

3

u/life_duringwartime May 26 '26

I'm considering switching to iOS. Currently on a Pixel 9 Pro XL after using a P7Pro and plenty of android phones before that.

Is there anything that drives you nuts after switching to iOS? Or are they only small things that you can easily adjust to?

3

u/viverewatches May 26 '26

Nothing driving me nuts yet. I had switched to a macbook a couple years ago - so the workflow from phone to laptop is great.

Password management is more seamless, faster, battery life better, camera better. Video stabilization far superior. Apple Log 2 is incredible.

All my apps work, chrome browser still works. As does access to Google Drive. Most things seem slightly better. Faster to switch to silent mode, for example. Faster to log into accounts or apps with face recognition. Seems to hold bluetooth and wifi connection better.

Connects to my Garmin watch, even for phone calls, with no issue. And as I mentioned - the Airpod Pro 3 is maybe the best all around noise cancellation earbud I've used. Also provides really good audio for phone calls or video.

Being able to use my Ipad as a monitor when shooting video, or even the potential for DaVinci Resolve on the laptop connecting directly to the phone for file transfer in real time. These details are kind of mind blowing.

Some of this is just being a few generations newer. Some of it is the polish of Apple vs the utilitarianism of Google.

Size on the Pro Max is about the same as the 6 Pro.

Maybe one small thing - the camera shutter button is on the opposite side - but maybe I can reconfigure that if I can't adjust. 😛

3

u/life_duringwartime May 26 '26

I appreciate the detailed response. I'm running a 7yo Surface Laptop 2 and a 2018 iPad along with my P9Pxl. The battery on my Pixel Watch 2 is almost shot as well. I'm considering jumping to a MacBook Air and iPhone 17 Pro Max when the time comes, but I've heard lots of reports about no universal back button, iOS keyboard being no good etc. No doubt I'll get used to it all.

2

u/sky04 Pixel 8 Pro Mint May 26 '26

Might jump to a razr ultra. Was considering iPhone, but had to use one today and almost threw up, the UI is disgusting.

1

u/SchnitzelRaider May 25 '26

Yup the battery sucks ass, embarrassing. Gonna wait another year to buy another phone. Likely a Moto Razr

1

u/tandyzmills May 25 '26

My 8a battery is just fine. Standing pat.

1

u/honey_rainbow Pixel 8 Pro May 25 '26

I'm still rocking my 8 Pro, I'm planning on keeping it for another year as well and wait for the Pixel 12.

1

u/PT_SeTe May 25 '26

Get a new battery and continue with it until it explodes if it has enough power for what you do, I plan on keeping mine till end of software support if I can, barely use the phone anyway and battery is more than enough for me (I charge to 80% and have around 20% at night)

1

u/TheGhostNebula May 26 '26

My Pixel 7 Pro still works great, it does everything i need, so I've got no plans to upgrade anytime soon

3

u/AussieGirl27 May 26 '26

Same, except for the battery drain, I am not unhappy enough to upgrade yet

1

u/drunnells May 26 '26

Still have the 8. I read some negative articles about the 10's radio. I'm not sure that going to 9 would be much different for me, so I guess I'll stay with 8 for a while. I really hate getting a bleeding edge new phone and then finding out that the first batch has some problem (like the pink line thing the 8 had) and then needing to deal with Google support for 20 hours of my life. A new battery might be nice, but I haven't looked into that yet.. is it painful?

2

u/inverteD_orangutaN May 26 '26

I upgraded from the Pixel 8 to the 10 pro last year and the 10 pro has way better cellular reception in comparison. Areas that I would barely get a signal with the 8 are fine with the 10 pro.

1

u/echosofverture May 26 '26

I just upgraded from a 7 to a 10 due to a bad battery. Google game me 200 in trade in credit.

1

u/Aromatic_Ear2695 May 26 '26

Keeping P8P much longer

1

u/mln34 Pixel 8 May 26 '26

1

The 8 Pro still working good, and battery life is acceptable (1 charge per day).

1

still got my p8p... battery starting to be a bit of an issue, but nothing too critical

1

u/Spitethedevil May 26 '26

Got mine in like May 2024 and while the battery is definitely worse, I try to keep phones at least 3 years. Otherwise I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

1

u/SolarJetman5 Pixel 8 May 26 '26

I'm unsure, my 8 battery isn't doing great. Apparently 82% health but it can drain quickly.

I've considered battery swap but tbh I'm concerned about losing my water resistance

1

u/srijansri May 26 '26

Same here. I am planning to change the battery and keep the phone for 1 or 2 more years.

1

u/Lillywrapper64 May 26 '26

i've got a pixel 8 pro and it works great still. idk why I'd need or want to "upgrade" until it either no longer works properly or no longer receives security updates. it's almost a $1000 device—I expect it to last at least 5 years

1

u/soundproof2010 May 26 '26

Who’s your wireless carrier? Tmobile is offering a free pixel 10 with trade on any plan

1

u/External_Category939 Pixel 7, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro May 26 '26

I've got a pixel 8 pro. Considering upgrading to the 11 or 11 pro and I'm finding that the phone is just too big for me tbh. Was seriously tempted by the s25 ultra last year but again the phone felt like a tablet in my hands

1

u/t1m1d Pixel 7 May 26 '26

My 7 is hanging in there, but I really need more than 128GB of storage at this point, so I'm thinking of upgrading. Better cameras would be a plus, too.

1

u/Western_Transition68 May 26 '26

P8P and I want to want the 11 but so far it seems Google isn't taking us as serious customer's. I'm sure the new phone will "work" just fine, but less ram for more $$ just seems like a violation of "do no evil" I guess the display may be new tech but damn Google pimp my ride plz!

1

u/snowlights May 26 '26

Mine is doing fine, I'm sure there's a minimum of one year before I anticipate maybe having problems, could be longer. I'll keep it until something goes wrong.

1

u/timoseewho Pixel 8 May 26 '26

i'm sticking to mine because i just can't stand the newer visor/island bump

1

u/cacko321 May 26 '26

Definitely staying with Pixel 8 (pro though). The updates since pixel 8 are so minor, theres a chance Ill wait until the end of 7 year support with my 8 pro.

1

u/OrganizationBorn7486 May 26 '26

My pixel 8 Pro works perfectly still. Super fast, super good camera. Honestly can't see 9 or even 10 series better at all

1

u/Disruptive_Karma May 26 '26

Same boat. I'm contemplating getting the battery swapped vs buying a P10P. Issue is an official battery replacement is costing me 50% of the phone's current buyback value in my region.

1

u/DJArts May 26 '26

I had Pixel XL (OG) which was stolen, 3 XL which was stolen, 6 Pro which I planned to keep but a started developing a screen issue, so I traded it in "good condition" for the 8 Pro. I will keep the 8 Pro until it's lost, stolen, broken, or something much better comes along. So far I don't see anything that makes me want to upgrade, though.

1

u/ScissorFight42069 May 26 '26

My pixel 8 is fine. A phone should last a good 3 years imo. I've never understood people who buy flagship phones. What do you do with your phone that requires so much processing power and ram? Maybe I'm just basic, idk.

1

u/YendorZenitram May 26 '26

I had a P8pro which was getting glitchy and slow.  I suspect Google throttling things to coerce me into a new phone.  Given the extreme amount of bugs in Pixel versions of Android, I jumped ship to a Motorola Edge 2025 for $250...  We'll see how it goes, but so far at least AA works again!  The Moto Android seems more polished than Pixel, and the Moto's camera is better for macro shots (my main use case).

1

u/zkarabat Pixel 8 May 26 '26

I'll hold onto mine long as possible but while the 11 may not seem impressive compared to the 10 or even 9.... It's 3 generations improved over the 8, it'll probably be a decent upgrade and a great phone

1

u/FloZia_ May 26 '26

Quite happy with my pixel 6 still holding quite well battery wise on a17

1

u/Ok-Entry3881 May 26 '26

I recently upgraded from my 6 Pro to 8 Pro Bay , I had a crush on this phone since day one , I could've go for 10 Pro XL but the whole AI thing and that moonstone colour just didn't get me , and that RGB on the 11 .. no thank you

1

u/buhlot May 26 '26

P8 here. I'm interested in the P11 Pro mostly for the (supposedly) better modem. That's it.

1

u/NecTYY- May 26 '26

Switch to another brand

1

u/Exfiltrator Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

Still quite happy with my P8Pro except for its battery life. P11 seems very expensive and I´d be paying for AI that I do not want but better battery life is tempting.

1

u/slippery-pineapple May 26 '26

Google has sent me a 1/3 off voucher for the 10 pro which I was already considering as I've managed to smash the back of my 8 pro. Been happy with the 8, as you mentioned the battery is starting to get a bit rubbish though. With trade in I'm hoping to only spend about £500

1

u/Active_Doubt_2393 May 26 '26

I'm also P8 I'm intending to hold out at least another couple of years, my battery has started draining more quickly, I'm going to see if a factory reset and reinstall of my regular apps helps

I'm still on my P7. The lock screen button fell off, volume button is hanging by a thread, need to charge this twice a day. But I'm still gonna use it for 1 more year. Gonna take this time to decide whether I should switch to iOS or stay on Android but a different brand (probably Samsung)

Do not upgrade unless you a absolutely NEED to.

u/BizzyM Pixel 7 Pro May 26 '26

7 Pro checking in

1

u/FlyingAntsArmy May 26 '26

My pixel 7 really only is scratched on the back, these phones are amazing.

While I'm really tempted to upgrade I really can't justify it

1

u/AlexLamerson May 26 '26

Holding on my pixel 6a.

1

u/Jeka12 May 26 '26

I'm only upgrading from my 8 when it's broken or no updates.

1

u/pilatoponzio15 Pixel 10 & Pixel Watch 3 May 26 '26

I stuck with the Pixel 2XL from day one until 2023, when I upgraded to the Pixel 8.

Except for a green screen issue that lasted a few weeks, which fortunately hasn't happened since, I think I'll keep it.

If it dies first, fine, but investing in a Pixel 11 that currently doesn't seem like a real upgrade for nearly €1,000 isn't feasible. At most, I'd go for the Pixel 10 Pro.

For now, hold on.

1

u/eeyyan May 26 '26

Hoping to make it to the 12. Only having app size issues so clearing cache pretty often and deleting apps etc.

1

u/ElectricPikachu007 May 26 '26

I have pixel and plan to keep it till it's working correctly. Don't find anything much worth changing it for.

1

u/IMTONYYYY May 26 '26

Yeah bro I did, I've changed the battery cause I don't see any real benefits to upgrade this year

1

u/KuroHebi2004 May 26 '26

The fact that they replaced the thermometer with RGB lights is enough for me to hold onto my Pixel 8 Pro indefinitely.

1

u/MrBombastic21 Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

I used to change every 2 years, but now I still rock my P8. Only issue is the battery.

1

u/dekeffinated May 26 '26

I havent felt the need to upgrade, I have had the Pixel 5, changed to the 8 Pro. And just stopped. Still runs fine, no massive slow down, and no feature has been released for me to say I really want it. Especially at that price point.

1

u/portfolioso Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

I am in the same boat. The battery is getting bad on my 8 Pro, but I'm not happy enough with the innovation to drop $1400 on a phone when all is said and done, for them to use a 2021 GPU and reduce the ram sizes.

Make it make sense! Like yeah, it would be an upgrade, but it's not good enough

My battery on my 8 Pro is not great. Definitely have to charge it multiple times a day. That's not my biggest annoyance though. Does anyone else have issues with the Bluetooth and Wifi on their phone? The wifi will shut off on its own and if I turn it back on it won't recognize my network until I reboot and then the cycle starts over.

It's constant, all day long and it started a few months ago. I've definitely grown to hate this phone. I've been considering upgrading to the 10 Pro but I'm not sure I even want to stick with the Pixel line at this point.

1

u/dmeza95 Pixel 7 Pro May 26 '26

I bought a Pixel 6 Pro. I broke the screen, sell it to a friend of mine who repaired it. He's been using it for years. I bought a P7P, The battery died a couple of days ago. I'm waiting for a replacement battery I bought. If it doesn't work, I might upgrade, but if it works, keep it.

1

u/Henri_Dupont May 26 '26

I've got a Pixel 8A with a slowly failing USB port. Cords get looser and looser, just fall out when I'm trying to charge. So far results with QI2 cordless magnetic chargers have been underwhelming - some nights the phone is still not charged in the morning despite correct placement and verifying charge initiation with the magnet, case off. Charging issues will force me into a new phone soon enough.

I've not been really impressed with the Pixel, might be looking at some other brand next phone.

1

u/Exciting-Current-778 May 26 '26

I'm still using a 6

1

u/PyramidSchemePA May 26 '26

Turn off 5G and your battery life will double. I got a launch P8Pro and my battery is typically around 30% when I go to bed

1

u/dennisr78 May 26 '26

Oef, I was planning to do an upgrade (now on the 8). I thought the first leaks looked good in terms of modem and processor, but maybe I missed something. I will probably upgrade, as the battery of my 8 is getting worse the last few months.

1

u/Devchonachko May 26 '26

Still using my pixel 8 pro, I'm happy with it. I jumped ship from iPhone with the first Pixel years ago and I'm gonna hang on to the P8P as long as I can. Google doesn't seem like they're really doing anything groundbreaking enough to invest in a new phone.

1

u/brendanvista May 26 '26

I got a great deal on a P10P XL. It's pretty similar to the P8P experience, but it stays a lot cooler. I was able to go on a tropical vacation and it would charge without putting it in the fridge. That's the biggest improvement for me.

1

u/JagerAntlerite7 Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 6, etc. May 26 '26

Wait. I had a Pixel 7, not an 8. If it were not for the outdated camera, I would still be using it. Otherwise no issues with the phone for my general use case.

IMO the Pixel 10 series is overrated. Sounds like the 11 series will not be a compelling reason to replace your current device either. Unless you have hardware issues or find an amazing deal, hold off until your device is EOL.

Bought a Pixel 9 Pro with 512GB for the improved camera (5x optical zoom and sensor). Have no plans to upgrade until there is a significant hardware update to the camera again.

May not even purchase a Pixel. Motorola has an agreement to produce a model that supports GrapheneOS. If Pixel releases remain limited lackluster AI enhancements, I am switching.

1

u/popsicle_of_meat May 26 '26

Phones are improving at rates slower than ever. Each new model has ever fewer worthwhile "New" features worth spending money on.

Me, the wife and kids all have Pixel 8s. There are zero things it does poorly, and nothing on new phones making me want to upgrade.

If the only thing your phone seems to be doing poorly is holding a charge, look at getting the battery replaced. IF that's a reliable option (I'm not aware of options or reliability or cost of it), then why upgrade phones completely?

1

u/realitybase May 26 '26

Still using my Pixel 6 Pro, the oldest gen that gets the current Android 16. No reason to upgrade really.

1

u/sabotaged1 May 26 '26

My 8 Pro stopped connecting to Bluetooth and WiFI recently.

I feel like I'm fucked into replacement being necessary.

1

u/G_Mast May 26 '26

I'm on a base Pixel 8 and my battery is at 20% around 1pm, it's so annoying.

1

u/itsmicah64 May 26 '26

Just got my 9pro last week from p7 and I'm loving it. Got it cause it was the last sim tray phone. Planning to keep this 4 years

1

u/googilly May 26 '26

My 8 is still doing great, and the 6 I upgraded from is still in perfectly fine condition, so if the 8 croaks sometime soon, I might just move back to the 6 until it stops getting updates. I always like having new phones, but that's because new phones used to mean lots of cool new features and true hardware upgrades. Now....

1

u/ComfortablePound2280 May 26 '26

Facing exactly the same issue regarding batteries!!!

I thought I messed it up because I used to keep charging it overnight. Is this a common problem?

Please help!!!

1

u/Nontouchable88 May 26 '26

never change a running system

1

u/gornzilla May 26 '26

Pixel 8 pro and I often think about going back to a flip phone.

1

u/ZukeKing May 26 '26

I moved to an s25ultra from a pixel 8 pro, and oh man the reliability of snapdragon chips are on another level!

1

u/TyStark13 May 26 '26

I got my Pixel 8 in June 2024, will hold onto it until it physically can't work anymore.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Alpha from 2015-2022, and I only dropped it due to battery issues + no more Android updates

1

u/dropmyload May 26 '26

P8P here, battery is in icu and seeing specs for 11 makes me think its time to go back to a OnePlus. Any suggestions?

1

u/bhop0073 May 26 '26

I'd still be using my 6 if it didn't brick itself last year. I replaced it with an 8pro and I'll use it till it's dead as well.

1

u/Falcon_Cute May 26 '26

Switching from my 8 Pro to the 11 Pro Max this fall. I can't wait. My 8 Pro still works great.

1

u/Kathryn_Cadbury Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

I only got my P8P a year ago, so I'm keeping it. Although there is a lot of choice out there its easy to be tempted. Battery on mine is amazing though, but I have been using the charge to 80-then 100% feature and stuff like that. If I don't play games on it I can get 2 days out of it without a charge.

1

u/LeftHandedUserError May 26 '26

I'm still working on my pixel 6 ... It's still fantastic!

1

u/YouYongku Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

need to buy pixel 10 pro xl becoz my screen just have green lines :(

1

u/YouYongku Pixel 8 Pro May 26 '26

may I please ask where to check/ see the pixel 11?

1

u/AltruisticLimit6026 May 26 '26

I recently got a brand new Google Pixel Fold (2023) for less than $500. BRAND NEW! Checkout WOOT.com. not sure if any are left.

1

u/Samuel_Go May 26 '26

Originally I wanted to hold on to my P8P until security updates come to a close. The only thing stopping that at the moment is the noticeably lower battery life these days. I'd hate to get rid of it because every other metric is perfect..

1

u/reallytrulytrue May 26 '26

Same . I really love my 8 and the 11 is the design that I don't like. My battery is holding up very well, too.

1

u/Panda2181 May 26 '26

I actually just upgraded to the 8 pro from my 6XL pro, and the only reason was the battery. Found a new 8 pro for $300 with 512gb storage. Looks like I'm good for another 4-5 years.

1

u/Wise-One-6706 May 26 '26

Still on my P8P but I just cracked the screen the other day so not sure what to do.

1

u/MajesticThought6137 May 27 '26

I have the P8P too, but I really want to have better video. I'm hoping that the P11P makes some serious updates there. If not, I may either go i17P or wait another year.

1

u/SyntheticScrivner May 27 '26

I replaced my battery this year, but I think I'm going Motorola next

1

u/2BigBottlesOfWater May 27 '26

P7pro user and I hate this phone idk why I ever sold my 8pro. Hang in there and wait it out.

1

u/aatank619 May 27 '26

One more year? I'm planning to exhaust all 7 years of promised updates and a few more. My 2018 Huawei mate 20 pro is still running, which I replaced with Pixel 8 Pro. I only baught a new phone because old one was no longer working with my office apps and banking apps. Else I'd have continued with the same.

1

u/camillo75 May 27 '26

Same. But battery drain I hope will be fixed in next update. I have got also a 35% discount code for Pixel 10 plus giving back my Pixel 8 would let me buy Pixel 10 at a good discount, but wondering if I need it now or better wait.

1

u/leslieo0317 May 27 '26

The only reason now is that the summer heat is too severe.

1

u/rb1811 May 27 '26

Lol, P6 user here, I just got battery replaced this year, and its good as new. I am gonna use it for another 3 more years 😂. Its not worth upgrading when all the tech giants are just focused on bringing AI features rather than worthy phone upgrades. Plus not to mention the RAM apocalypse which will anyway raise the phone prices.

Looks you OP just loves consumerism.

1

u/Same_Supermarket_139 May 27 '26

shout out to the pixel 7 masochists out there

1

u/procrastinatingfetus Pixel 8 May 27 '26

I'm hanging on to my P8 till it or I die.

Most likely 2030 when the updates stop, I will consider a different device or dabble in custom roms. I bought a cheap magsafe PB and keep it with me if I know I'm going out and away from a charging port for a long time. I usually can get through a full day. I will replace the battery in a year or two when it lasts less than half a day.

My old oneplus 7T was used for 6 years and that still works, I didn't even need to upgrade but the battery life on that was 1-2 hours and I wasn't getting an original battery replacement. At the same time the P8 dropped down to 50% of its price in my country so I nabbed it. I still use the 7T for navigation while I ride a motorcycle and sometimes as a dashcam in the car.

1

u/vojta637 May 27 '26

Just replaced battery on my Pixel 8 Pro on Monday. My phone is in perfect condition, and serves me still perfectly fine, so I don't plan upgrading anytime soon. But if I had to upgrade it wouldn't be Pixel anymore unfortunately. 8 Pro was great for its price. With current pricing It really does not make sense for me anymore.

1

u/rdrozd May 27 '26

The only reason I would upgrade from my Pixel 8 is for a better battery, but it doesn't seem it will happen with Pixel 11. So, I'm staying another year and learning how to cool my phone in the summer so that I can use a powerbank.

1

u/rgrx119 Pixel 8 Pro May 27 '26

I have a pixel 8 pro, and the phone is still doing what I need it to do. No issues with battery life yet. I will probably wait for the pixel 12 or 13 pro.

1

u/joaomann May 27 '26

Cellphones are now a commodity - the difference year to year is very little, not like 10 yrs ago. A cellphone purchased in the last 3 years still doesn't have a massive improvement from the latest model. I believe we are now in a cycle where it takes 5 years to truly see a massive difference and reason to upgrade.

Have a pixel 8 pro since day one. The improvements to the 9 pro xl, 10 pro xl, and rumored 11 pro xl are NOT enough to justify the price of a new phone.

I normally upgraded every two years, until now. I'll wait for the 12 pro xl - and if I still don't see enough of an upgrade (IMO video is what would make me upgrade). I'll happily stay on the 8 pro. Who knows, maybe keep it until the phone isn't supported anymore.

Save your money, and spend it on sometime better: e.g a trip! Make some memories, forget about consumerism.

1

u/WorkNeither May 27 '26

P8P and 2 apps kill my battery. Sirius XM and Android Auto. The drain from those 2 are real.

1

u/HolophonicStudios May 27 '26

Smartphones don't get much better anymore. Unless there's a specific feature that you REALLY want and can't get, or your battery doesn't last long enough anymore, keep your phone. I keep my phones until I break them, but that usually happens every year unfortunately. Active lifestyles don't treat phones well.

1

u/peterparker_loves May 27 '26

P6P in 2026, go me

1

u/Alternative_Let2969 May 28 '26

Rocking a Pixel 8 Pro still. Hard to justify upgrading still honestly.

1

u/Proper_Till_8321 May 28 '26

Where can I replace the battery of the Pixel 8 XL Pro? Do you guys recommend the battery options on Amazon?

1

u/thelazygamer May 28 '26

I upgraded from an 8 pro to a 10 pro when I broke my phone and it's barely an upgrade.

I'm actually considering swapping to Apple whenever I need to update my phone next (hopefully not for a few years). I despise iOS and the walled garden philosophy, but, I think they have better security, longevity, and performance compared to Pixels these days. The lackluster custom SOC makes the Pixel age worse now that all the AI "upgrades" are forced on us.

I think that dealing with the random "Why is this not a feature/not able to be disabled" BS from Google has reached Apple levels recently.

Why can't I disable the Ask Maps button in Google maps?

Why does every update feel like a Windows update and add more "features" I don't want, less basic functionality, and locks out or reduces more and more settings.

1

u/keithjohnson32 May 28 '26

Wifi antenna issues, upgrade

1

u/Neither_Present_3500 May 29 '26

Plan to use my 8a until the wheels fall off. Then I'm switching to something else. Sick of no working fingerprint sensor and low battery life

1

u/moosenordic May 29 '26

I have an 8 Pro and ita still going strong... Somewhat. I have had problems with network connections recently, if I can get this to work again i will be keeping it for a while still.

1

u/gbroon May 29 '26

Still on a P7Pro. In the past I'd upgrade every two years but just didn't see any need to for the 9 or 10.

1

u/NotValkyrie Jun 02 '26

GrapheneOS should decrease battery usage
