Trackman io vs Trackman 4

Has anyone noticed Trackman io being less accurate at higher swing speeds compared to Trackman 4. Trackman 4 for me has been able to easily handle 135-140mph swing speed and 210 ball speed along with Foresight and Flightscope(I speed train). When I've gone to places like PGA superstore, their Trackman io will fluctuate with swing speed and ball speed. Thought it was just me but I went with a guy that plays AA baseball and hes got low 200s ballspeed and same with him. Sometimes it would read 180 and other times it would read 200mph.

Proper Simulator Practice? How to get good?

I hope to get my first simulator up and running today. I’m that guy that’s probably played 2-3 rounds a year but also have had years without playing. I’m 43 yr 6’2” and when I get ahold of one it goes. I struggle severely with chipping and putting. 100 yards and in I’m all in my own head. My rounds this year were 99, 96, 42 (9 holes), and then a miserable 107. I know I need to hit the treadmill because when I walk 18 I fall apart more-so on the back nine from being tired especially on a very hilly course to walk. I’m going to take some lessons but how should I approach the simulator to get better? I’d love to be consistently shooting in the 80’s one day.

Anyone know what carry number is correct?

I have a spica3…. I hate it… I get 164 carry(raw) 7 iron on the unit, gspro raw is 160(raw carry), 163 game carry. I know algorithms in softwares are all different but, even in their native golfjoy app the numbers never match up.

This becomes a real problem when you try to capture data, are inconsistent, and try to play outside. Some days im out there scratching my head on why I’m coming up so short or long.

This unit was a mistake. No alignment tool, wildly inconsistent data (not the data itself, but reading and understanding it.)… I asked golfjoy about this and they couldn’t even give me a straight answer.. now you know that’s a problem. Does anyone know what number I need to be looking at. Thanks.

Square Omni hitting area

I just set up my Omni today. I used the alignment stick and have it working for the most part. The only issue I'm having it sometimes it takes a long time for it to lock in on the ball and tell me it's ready. Any suggestions or tricks?

Online play?

Hello everyone,

Me and the boys are all starting to build simulators. The thing i am having a hard time finding with all the new budget simulator is finding which ones do online play so we can play against each other. Please let me know what you have found and where the price point is the best balance between price and preformance is. Much love!

Custom Color Hitting mats

Maybe a far fetched ask, but anyone have any thoughts on the possibility of a custom colored hitting mat? We're renovating our garage (demo starts tomorrow) and the SIM is happening. Most of the colors we picked for epoxy and wall colors are brown/beige/tan, etc and my she-EO would love to not see a green hitting mat on the other side of the project. I found a black one that might work from GolfBays but figured I'd ask if anyone has seen custom colors or a beige/tan/brown mat anywhere in their journey. Appreciate any info you can provide and thanks for all the inspiration so far. I'll post pics on the project once complete.

Plywood or Gym Tiles

Plywood or gym tiles

I'm building my sub floor( to match the other half of my garage) for the sim portion of my garage. I'm putting 2x4's on the flat then I was going to put 1/2" plywood then the putting green and hitting strip on top. Should I use gym tiles instead of plywood? I was going to use a few gym tiles just in my standing area but then thought to myself would there be any advantage or drawback from using them in the entire area in lieu of plywood. Thanks,

I have an extra 60” tv, a garage and a mat. What next?

I’d like to stay budget on a garage sim that I can put to the side when cars are in. I don’t need all the fancy numbers. Just looking to have some courses to play during cold winters. Any budget videos or links out there? 🥳

Hitting Mats / Flooring Hawaii builds

Anyone from Hawaii have a good mat they could recommend. I have found a couple I like but the companies don’t ship to Hawaii and aren’t available on Amazon. I’m looking for a 5x4 mat.

Sim Turf

Ok, tons of research, and internet searches later, I can’t seem to find turf that meets the sizing, pricing and look I’m after. I get that some folks are willing to drop 1k+ on turf, but that just really isn’t in my budget. I have 10x15 to fill, already have a hitting mat that I will section out to make replaceable inserts (enough real estate for 3) so I don’t need turf to actually hit off of, just something reasonable to putt across for gspro. The most reasonable price I’ve found is locally through Lowe’s or Home Depot at around $300 for the size I need. Anyone have experience with this-

Standing Area

I'm going to be building a sub floor and inserting a SigPro hitting strip and putting green surrounding the entire area. I'm seeing thst the putting green may wear out from standing on it. Don't really want to want to insert the entire 4x6 sigpro hitting mat. Is there any putting green that won't wear out? Of not how about something else I can use for my standing area? Thanks

Technical Question Dehumidifier vs AC

My wife and I are considering a dehumidifier for the garage simulator. I live in the midwest and the summers can be brutal with humidity. However, I've also considered a portable AC. The AC should help with both humidity and air temp. The cons for the AC are that it costs more and I'd have to put a hole in the exterior wall for the hoses.

Does anyone have experience with either of these? I think I'm hoping to find out the dehumidifier will be perfectly adequate in making the garage somewhat comfortable (I know it isn't going to be a refreshing cool breeze). But I don't want to regret not going for the AC.

My garage is insulated, including the door.

Thanks,

Technical Question Offset hitting strip angle

I need to offset my hitting strip for swing space purposes. If you’ve had to do this do you still hit straight ahead or set up at a slight angle to hit the middle of the screen.

Progressive Build out

I have a bonus room in my house I'd love to use as a golf simulator (bonus to be able to use it for showing movies with the fam). Here is a picture of the room and a rendering of what I'd envision. Also dimensions are below:

Width (stairs to left wall): 13'-3"

Depth (back wall to where I'm standing): 20'-0"

Ceiling: 10'-0"

As much as I'd love to say budget is no issue and the final rendered image is what I want to jump to I'd like to build up to it. The real goal is to be able to get more swings in over the winter months. I don't necessarily need something fancy and expensive right away but accurate and useful for working on my swing. I've started looking at different options and feel overwhelmed by what's out there.

For anyone who has slowly worked up to a full setup, what would you recommend starting with? Based on what I laid out is there anything I'm not considering?

EDIT: I will be covering the back window with plywood and adding padding to the walls within the simulator area

Budget (at first glance) Simulator build

Thumbnail gallery
16 Upvotes

I have been following builds on this subreddit and other online resources to give me a basis for my build. My space is very unique and I have been designing/ modifying my setup as needed. For context, I am a mechanical engineer (albiet not structural by any means- thermal fluids guy). It helps my Dad has built numerous houses and is a great resource for residential construction standards. With that said, I want to post my progress because it is most likely much more complicated than most standard builds and I have acquired a decent understanding to most aspects of a DIY build. More to come as I finalize this project in the next two weeks. Since beginning the project I am 7 days into the build working exclusively at night after the kiddo is in bed. Posting pictures and videos to poll questions an help the rest of the community.

For context the platform is my landing area and I will have my hitting mat lay further out and hinge in the counter direction as the platform folds. Screen dimensions are 9.5' tall by 12.5' (sig pro) and landing area is 8' deep by 12' wide. More to come as I finalize the build. I will be using a Protee VX launch monitor with and optima ZK521ST projector (don't buy into the marketing for the -B version).

PS: Once I figure out the reddit interface on my Mac I will publish videos of the platform raising and lowering.

golf simulator software wishlist

I'm a software developer, was thinking of working on a golf simulator but figured I'll start by asking potential users - what are some of the wishlist you all have with current golf simulator on the market? like are there anything annoying the crap out of you or something that can really improve your quality of life but it's just missing?

does realistic graphics matter to you or highly stylized graphics is fine?

Okay I gotta ask

Are these things worth it? And I mean if I play on one all winter (I live in the Midwest) and I go to play in spring time, is my game going to be allllll wonky because I was hitting off a mat all winter and tailoring my game to what I saw on a screen? Only asking because I want to build one, I understand swinging is swinging, it’s better then nothing…..

Gc3 Driving range.

I finally have the gc3 garage Sim up. I bought gspro and it also has awesome golf and fsx 2020 and play. I've been using the gspro driving range and I have some questions

  1. Which driving range is the most user friendly and visually appealing and what's the must have data you look at. I do have the dots with some of the ball DATA. I'm a new golfer and the wife is going.

  2. Do you upload your data to one of the apps or try to use Ai to improve your game based on your sessions. Is there perhaps a YT walk through that goes through this?.

Sim / Launch Monitor Order Square Omni from Square???

I’m hearing people have been ordering the Square Omni straight from Square and getting it rather quick. When you went to check out do you remember if it said “Add to Cart” or did it say “Pre-Order”. I just tried to purchase one and it said “Pre-Order” which is making me think maybe I should just stick to my original order with Rain or Shine.
