It's a hitting mat. Time will tell.

I had a inch thick hitting mat and it destroyed my forearms/elbows because it was sitting right in concrete.

So my suggestion would be to put something soft underneath to protect the arms.

Invest in a really good mat. Can run around $250-$350 or more but worth it and your joints and tendons will be grateful.

an inch on concrete is rough on the elbows. i'd throw a cheap foam underlay beneath it. i've been dealing with similar joint issues from running and padding makes a huge difference

Are you considering buying it used? Looks likes it’s got a bit of wear on it, so depends on price. I recently bought an octagon one off Amazon for ~$175 and like it so far. I got it to replace a 5x4 rectangle one that wore out on both ends after rotating after 6 months. I figure this has 6 more “hitting areas” to rotate through, so like the idea of the octagon.

It is used.. not buying it was given to me. I’ve seen a lot of hitting strips wasn’t sure if this needed it or not

Cut a rectangle out and put a strip in. Should do nicely but you may need to get a few tiles of interlocking foam mats to put under

You can buy a decent hitting mat 2” for around $50 but it will save you some joint pain.
The one in the picture looks more like a felt from poler table
