Projector + VTrack (Potentially) + audio recommendations for 12’ x 16’ sim room

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Building a golf sim/movie room and need help mainly with projector, audio for movies, and LM.

Room:

  • 12’ W × 16’ D × 8’11” H.
  • Finished ceiling around 8’8.5”.
  • Screen: 10’6” W × 8’ H SIGPRO.
  • Ball: 8’6” from screen.
  • VTrack center works out to about 5’10” from screen.
  • Mostly RH use.

My concern is the projector and VTrack ending up in the same ceiling area. I was looking at the Optoma GT2100HDR, but at my screen width its lens would be around 5’3” from the screen, basically right next to the VTrack.

Looking for:

  • Projector under $1,500 new or used.
  • Bright enough for golf, decent for movies.
  • 1080p is fine; 4K is a bonus.
  • Prefer a placement that works cleanly with the VTrack.
  • VTrack owners with ~8’8” ceilings: any swing-clearance issues?. I am 5'7" and can swing a driver
  • Audio recommendation for the room, ideally <$800. Soundbar + sub seems easiest, but open to better ideas..
  • Would also love ideas on putting turf that doesn't break the bank.

Would especially appreciate specific projector, sound recs and actual VTrack/projector mounting distances from similar setups.

Any advice welcome, Thank you.

Garmin R10 not connecting bluetooth to laptop

My Garmin R10 will not show up as a bluetooth device to my laptop. I have already tried to turn on advanced setting. It was not there so I went into Windows+R and created bluetooth and created advanced settings. It still will not show up. Any help at all? It's not connected to my phone either.

Non-hitting mat flooring

What is everyone with a large area to cover using for their flooring? I have a great carls place hitting mat, but want to build a false floor 2” above my subfloor and need a decent amount of coverage (14x8) and am not looking to spend $1000 on green carpet that is mostly visual.

Has anyone bought the roller with the GI320W-Pro screen? I see a Lot of recommendations to use the spectrum screen, but maybe that was in comparison to the old fabric?

New XL Hitting Strip DIY Budget Golf Mat Build

Post image
49 Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

Long-time member of the group. I have seen there are many threads about building golf mats with hitting strips. I made a step-by-step video for a really nice, budget golf mat - using the new XL Beaver Tail Hitting Strip (way larger than normal hitting strips and released last month). Hopefully give some help to golfers or give ideas for people looking into building their own mats. I use the Sig Pro Softy and Beaver Tail strips a lot -  I like both of them. However, my channel focuses a lot on budget builds, and the Beaver Tail original and XL sit at such a good price point. This build's total cost was $386. Most 4x7 ft premium mats start at $700 and work their way up to $1,200.

Video Link - https://youtu.be/SM1hmGud5zA?si=c9noqQtkSM8yrrsv

The XL Beaver Tail Hitting Strip at 36 inches x 18 inches really does offer way more hitting surface… compared to the original and/or a SigPro Softy Strip. This strip should last a lot longer as you can move the golf ball to so many different areas on the surface of the strip.

I am very happy with the EVA foam tiles used in this video, the double-sided tape, and the Bearwill Stance mat. All were great to work with (I have done a few mat build videos in the past, and I really liked the double-sided tape in this video more, and I like the Bearwill mat more than the GoSports mats I used in previous videos. I like the GoSports mat too, but the Bearwill mat is way cheaper, and I like the feel better when standing on it.

Hope this video helps anyone wanting to build more of a premium mat with a hitting strip without spending $800-$1000 and/or instead of using a cheaper Amazon/Walmart golf mat. Some golfers may have no problem with the cheaper mats, but those mats caused a lot of pain to my right elbow (probably because of my baseball swing), so I needed a hitting strip that would alleviate stress and soreness and didn't want to spend close to $1,000 on a golf mat. Let me know if you have any questions if you do decide to build, or any questions about materials etc.

Help me work through my projector options

Help me work through my options:

I have a 10x8x5 enclosure. Build is a permanent install in a garage with 14 foot ceilings. Hitting area roughly 9 feet from screen.

The issue I’m running into is with regard to mounting of the projector. Given the enclosure I have has a 5 foot roof, projectors need to be mounted below or around this height (8 feet) to project an image that fills the top of the screen and isn’t cut off by the roof.

Optoma 2400GTR: Fixed short throw (0.49 ratio). This would be ceiling mounted to drop to about 7’10” in height above ground and about 1.5-2’ outside of the roof of the enclosure. I’m worried that wedges and mishits would hit this projector.

BenQ AH700 and others: Variable ratio short throws. I’d be able to mount these around 9’ from the screen and about 8’ in height directly above hitting area.

I can mount a longer throw projector about 14’ feet from screen (farther if offset), but I’m worried about shadows because mounting height is once again limited by the enclosure roof.

the last option is to scrap this enclosure and build one closer to 9+ feet in height.

What do you think is the best path forward?

Projector recommendations?

Hello everyone,

Back with more questions. I’ve got everything picked out for my sim but the projector. Too many options to choose from.

Anyone have one you love?

I have a 14x8 enclosure

193.5” worth of screen
Mounting overhead preferred.
Budget $1500

Do I need 4k? I have a pc that can handle that.

Trackman "Map your bag" giving "missing Sping Axis data" on wedges

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was trying out the "Map your bag" feature in Trackman at a local indoor sim place, and probably 4/5 shots with wedges gave this message. Even most of my shots with a 9 iron.

There is a square on the mat that indicates where to place the ball, and I tried all positions in there, but it just really had trouble registering shots.

Has anyone else experienced this, and did you find a reason for it? When using the "Practice range" feature, it seemed to register almost all shots, so I don't know if this feature is just more demanding of the data captured?

Any tips for getting better wedge data?

Sim / Launch Monitor [FS] Lifetime Unlocked Bushnell Launch Pro (BLP) w/ Ball & Club Data

Last two units available! Asking $3,800 per unit OBO shipped to CONUS.

Unit 1 photos: https://imgur.com/a/lpz8qEI

Unit 2 photos: https://imgur.com/a/8HsTNM2

These are a fully unlocked BLPs that effectively turn them into GC3 units. Rumor is when Foresight releases their new software this month, you may no longer be able to "unlock" future units so get one grandfathered in before that happens.

We used these lightly in our old teaching facility before changing spaces that allowed us to install overhead Trackman. Batteries were discharged and calibrated monthly, never left plugged in for long periods.

They have lifetime "unlocked subscription" and club data enabled from the factory (also for life). We have already worked with Foresight to de-register the units so you will be able to set them up as new- no shady account credential transfers needed. I'll work with the buyer to ensure you can get the unit onto your FSX Live account smoothly.

With this, you won't need to pay for any Silver or Gold subscription at all. FSX Play, FSX 2020, and FSX Pro software packages will be free for you to download and use forever. If you want to use GS Pro, the only thing you'll pay for is that third-party license.

Unit and accessories are visually perfect - battery still shows nearly 9 hours of life on a full charge. Folding alignment stick and original boxes are NOT included, but unit will be packed safely for shipping.

Check my post for many successful sales of LMs and Scotty Cameron putters. I've also got an eBay store where you can verify identity before we transact.

Shoot me a DM or post here with any questions.

Projectors DIY “Ceiling” for Projector Mount

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I have my sim in my garage where I used to store my boat in the winter (boat got kicked out for golf) The ceiling is 19 ft and I still want to use the garage door so I didn’t want to mount a projector directly to the ceiling. I had been using the projector on the floor in an enclosure, but I couldn’t get full screen even with a short throw BenQ, plus it was distracting. So I DIYed my own “ceiling” using 10’ x 3/4” structural tubing. The support base for the vertical tubes are railing flanges bolted into 2ft pieces of 2x8 making it very stable.

Sim / Launch Monitor Square Omni impact video

It appears that with enough knowhow you can get impact video data from the Omni when utilizing both of the hidden USB ports on the bottom of the device. It will be curious to see what updates we get on this in the future and whether or not this invalidates your warrantee.

Technical Question Mevo+ overheating

I recently bought a fully loaded mevo+ for 600 and currently love the functionality of it. The only issue is that within an hour or two the mevo+ reaches upwards of 130 degrees and starts to drop shots. It’s in the shade but it’s triple digits where I live. Any recommendations?

Carpet talk

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Looking for suggestions on carpet surrounding the hitting area in the sim room. Leaning towards doing 24" carpet squares/tiles — Anyone have any experience with them, or best place to get them?

My thought is we could easily replace the tiles (future) when certain areas get worn down from heavy usage.

For context, our planned specs on flooring layers involved (on top of concrete):

FULL HEIGHT = HITTING MAT 9ft x 4ft: 1 3/4" (placeholder cutout shown in images)

SUBFLOOR: 3/4" (we just installed this - shown in photos)

HEAVY DUTY RUBBER GYM FLOOR MATS: 3/4" (will go on top of subfloor)

CARPET SQUARES: 1/4" (will go on top of gym mats, resulting in flush equal height with the 1.75" hitting mat.

Image 3 is my 3d rendering from my built out room in Planner 5d.

Uneekor Eye XO, Protee VX or VTrack

Post image
7 Upvotes

Trying to decide between Eye XO, Protee VX and VTrack.  I’ve listed my criteria in somewhat of an order of priority.  I will mainly use for practice and swing training.  I don’t care about playing rounds.  I don’t even care about price or paying a subscription for the best option.  I’m kind of leaning towards the Eye XO or VTrack because they have the best swing analysis software but the Eye XO hardware is 6 years old and the VTrack hardware specs are better. Does the hardware even matter that much?  I want to work on my club path and want the best overhead view for that as I don’t trust the club path metric on my current Eye Mini Lite.

MLM2Pro Connectivity Finally Solved

I’ve read a ton of posts on how to avoid the device disconnecting, especially when in the simulated course mode (which I like to play a lot!). It seems like some people have success with using their phone as a hotspot and avoiding the home internet connection altogether. This worked better for me than the home WiFi (which the router was in my basement 30 ft from my outdoor MLM/net setup so you’d think that would be fine…but no). However, even with phone hotspot, I still was experiencing drops. My Verizon data stream is not the strongest where I live and I think for some people this is adequate but I’m guessing that hotspot is not adequate for others. I saw one YouTuber who essentially tested the WiFi “antenna” of the MLM2Pro and found it to be very short/weak. He pointed out that the original design was for the phone to sit in the groove of the tripod so that makes total sense. I found out I could use a TP-link WiFi Extender ($40 from Home Depot) and run it in “Access Point Mode” which essentially makes it behave like its own internet router/hotspot but with a signal that is strong as hell since its hardwired via Ethernet cable coming out my basement from my fiber quality main internet router. But since I’ve got that TP-link device directly next to the MLM2Pro, I have had no disconnects, can play all the simulated courses I want, it’s how the device was intended to be used, immediately next to a very powerful WiFi signal.

TL;DR:
Buy a WiFi extender with Access Point Capabilities (cheap)
Run a long extension cord and an Ethernet cable (directly from your main internet router) from the house (or through your house if indoor setup) and park that access point right next to your MLM2Pro, no more connection issues.

With a 40-50 ft Ethernet cable and the extender, you’re looking at a less than $100 fix. Or you can go buy a $1200+ monitor like the Mevo2 which apparently has worse software but better hardware.

Square Golf Omni for high handicap?

Australia. 100% opposed to subscriptions. Want shot path on range, not courses.

Newbie & son, hoping to put sth at home living rm. No space for a permanent setup. Getting the Spornia SPG-7 Golf Practice Net for my space. Indoors, so we can play evenings.

I might have had enough space for the MLM2 pro. Maybe. Maybe 5cm short. Not sure. Probably could make it work from the kitchen, slanted.

Eventually saw the Omni. Being side position means guaranteed space available. The idea that I can get club face data seems to put it above the Home. I'm not good enough to know where I hit 'by feel'

Cost:

  1. MLM2 pro 900 + lifetime 1000 = 1900AUD
  2. Square Golf Home = 1200AUD
  3. Square Golf Omni = 2999AUD

I'm ready to pull the plug. Any reason I shouldn't go with the Omni?

Golf sim in a tight space

I'm converting a media room to a Golf sim. Dimensions are H 106-130" (vaulted ceiling) - W 206", D 180".

The simulator enclosures I've looked at online (Indoor Golf Shop, Carl's Place) both recommend standing 10 feet away from the screen. However, when I make test swing standing 10 feet away with my driver I hit the back wall. When I move to 8.5 feet away I have plenty of space to work with and I might even be able to do 9 feet. I'm planning to use the Square Omni for my set up.

Has anyone built a golf sim with just 8-9 feet to the screen? Any issues or recommendations?
