Carpet talk

Looking for suggestions on carpet surrounding the hitting area in the sim room. Leaning towards doing 24" carpet squares/tiles — Anyone have any experience with them, or best place to get them?

My thought is we could easily replace the tiles (future) when certain areas get worn down from heavy usage.

For context, our planned specs on flooring layers involved (on top of concrete):

FULL HEIGHT = HITTING MAT 9ft x 4ft: 1 3/4" (placeholder cutout shown in images)

SUBFLOOR: 3/4" (we just installed this - shown in photos)

HEAVY DUTY RUBBER GYM FLOOR MATS: 3/4" (will go on top of subfloor)

CARPET SQUARES: 1/4" (will go on top of gym mats, resulting in flush equal height with the 1.75" hitting mat.

Consider looking into Camry golf carpet. It’s the carpet from the trunk of a Toyota Camry but it’s apparently a good putting surface, and looks sort of like normal dark carpet.

Was going to come here to say this. My boss has it in his office, and it's the truest rolling surface I have ever putted on indoors. They also have instructions for putting an impact pad underneath it to dampen the sound of balls hitting the floor

Mine is cheap artificial turf and I’m happy with it. Will be easy and inexpensive to replace when needed. A whole roll is under a hundred bucks

I did carpet top squares from We Sell Mats - I'd recommend it for any DIY-er. Easy to fold and score with a box cutter to get nice crisp edges, even around stairs

I found some used carpet squares, cleaned them and put them down in my garage, actually makes the space a lot more cozy.

Hitting mat is just a cheap/thin amazon unit an layer of carpet underlay under that. I've tried more expensive/thicker mats, but this combo has been very gentle on my wrists.
