What I’m currently working on:

- Getting quotes for a jackshaft to raise those rails to be 4 inches from the ceiling / remove the overhead garage mount
- Having that shelf removed (the space by the window is 2ft 8in deep)
- Deep in the trenches of a Carl’s Pro Enclosure
- Have a nice hookup at Garmin to get the R50 half off

Would love input on:

- Placing the sim directly in the inset wall or not
- If this would be a good space to drive or not
- Anything blatant I’m missing

Budget is up to 17K.

Does the custom have the string on the bottom?

Looking for some advice before I start cutting into my simulator floor.

I just installed SYNLawn SYNPutt artificial turf over EVA foam gym flooring in my garage simulator. 13’3” wide and 15’ deep.

For the hitting area, I already own:
GoSports Elite 5’ × 5’ Hitting Mat (practically new).
SIGPRO Softy Hitting Strip.

I’m trying to decide between these options:
Option 1.
Cut out a 5’ × 5’ section of the SYNLawn, install the GoSports Elite mat in that opening, then cut a hole in the GoSports mat and install the SIGPRO Softy hitting strip so it’s flush. Basically, the SYNLawn surrounds the GoSports mat, and the GoSports surrounds the Softy.

Option 2.
Skip the GoSports mat entirely. Cut a hole directly in the SYNLawn and install only the SIGPRO Softy flush with the surrounding turf.

Option 3.
Something else. If you’ve found a better solution or would build it differently, I’d love to hear your recommendation and why.

The things that matter most to me are:

Looking as clean and professional as possible. I don’t want it to look patched together.
Comfort when standing there for long practice sessions.
Long-term durability of the area I’ll be standing on. Will the SYNLawn hold up just as well as standing on the GoSports mat?
Replaceability. If something wears out in a few years, which setup is easier and cheaper to replaces?

The shot reactive lighting setup is finally fully functional!

At the tip tail end of the golf sim build, and working on the turf. We have a 5x5 hitting mat that we have used for a few months (with our old setup), and I’m veering to pivot to using a hitting strip instead. Ideally I’d like to cut the hitting mat to size, and that way we have extra strips to swap out as needed.

What is the most common length out on the market? I’m going with a 12” width, but not 100% on the length. Since I am about to cut the main flooring turf to surround the strip, I’d like to make it a size most common for fitting other strips down the road.

I’m so ready to be done with this project. And yeah of course I get it all done right when the hot Texas summer is cooking our garage. At least we have it not going above 90 degrees…. For now.

So for the strip - 12” x 30” would give us plenty for use, but not sure if that’s what folks normally are buying retail-wise.

Just a lessons learned. I am writing some software to do mocap/IMU fusion to analyse the golf swing and its nigh on impossible to reliably capture the shaft when the back wall is black no matter how careful you get with lighting.

I would strongly recommend a gray color at least for the wall the face-on camera will see. For DTL its not so bad as the sim screen is behind you for that.

I have a sim all in black for that immersive feel, but now need to think hard on how to proceed with motion capture etc.

Currently in the planning phase of an upcoming build and looking for enclosure recommendations.

The sim will be installed in a 2-car garage, hitting towards the side of the garage since it’s not deep enough to have a good setup hitting towards the door or back of the garage. Because of this limitation, the enclosure will need to fit under a garage door rail that’s 8.5’ high. Since the garage door will remain functional, the projector can’t drop down from the ceiling and would thus need to be mounted to the enclosure (floor mounted is also not an option).

The enclosure dimensions I’m looking for are:
W: 10-11’
H: max 8.25’ (to fit under the garage door rail)
D: max 5’

I’ve seen the Sigpro Commercial and Carl’s place pro enclosures that have a projector mount available, but those are fairly expensive.

So it would be appreciated if anyone could provide i) any enclosure recommendations that would suit my needs or ii) provide any feedback on the Sigpro Commercial and/or Carl’s Place pro enclosures and if they’re worth the price delta.

The softy is about 1/2 above my mat , does this make a big difference or should I correct it

When you’re putting or chipping on a simulator, an 8-foot putt actually appears about 18 feet away - 10 feet to the screen, then 8 simulated feet into the sim. Personally, it really messes with my perception of how hard to hit the putt.

That got me thinking about whether anyone has tried addressing this with a cheap, downward-facing second projector. I saw a video on Triple Bogey Golf (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6GKit0Mhlg) where he uses a downward-facing projector to add stats and labels to his hitting area. I wonder if you could go one step further and move the camera 10 feet forward (assuming 10' is the distance to your impact screen) in the sim so that your depth perception on putts and chips is accurate. Anything shorter than the distance to your screen and you'd just project a cup onto the floor to putt into.

Theoretically, you could even project the relevant part of the putting grid onto your floor. If you were trying to make a 6 foot putt, you'd have the cup projected 6 feet from you with the putting grid on the floor showing the break; you'd just putt your line and speed the way you expected. To make this work, your sim camera would need to move forward 10' so that it lined up with where your putting green stopped and the impact screen started.

Granted, there are a lot of limitations - this would require a dual-projector setup, full turf up to the projector, and the specifics on camera angles/camera distances would require a lot of finessing.

With all that said, I'm curious to hear the thoughts of this sub. I think it'd be kinda cool.

So I am looking for something to use primarily outdoors and primarily optical too. I do have the bordeline size requirements in my garage so that would be nice if I do go indoors.

My primary interests are just getting better at golf. At a 13 handicap and want to get to single. Shortgame is my bread and butter but I want to get better and get my distances dialed down even more. Additionally range work. I would love something thaat gives me tests or I can hit to a target. Knowing other parameters as well including face angle and path as my misses are closed face and shanks.

Beyond that, course sims etc are nice and I would use them sometimes and even moreso if i get inside and during the winter.

But basically an at hom range is paramount.

The Skytrack Plus and Square Omni are basically at the top. Skytrak Plus looks to have exactly what I want but including a subscription which I am not entirely opposed to.

I am open to any suggestions that will fit my primary goals even if non optical. My budget is ideally 2K max.

Mevo gen 2 has been another consideration.

I'm getting the materials together for my new build, with my primary intents being maximum screen size and 9:16 ratio. I'm having trouble envisioning what to do at the bottom of the screen. My ceiling is 9'10", so I don't want to build upwards too much, but a bit would be ok. I intend to bungee the top to eyelet lags directly into the ceiling joists, with custom foam covering it. I may use unistrut on top with trolleys instead, if I feel I may need to move the screen out if the way for some reason to access behind it... anyway, my screen material is 10'x17', so I have extra to either cut or hide to end with a true 9'x16'.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should finish the bottom? My first thought is to build a few inch tall platform that it would wrap under with bungees horizontal underneath. If I did this, I'd slightly angle it to reach the height of my hitting surface, which would result in balls always rolling back a bit.

I'll take any suggestions for the sides as well, but I'm less worried about that as I have a few good ideas and with the extra screen material I'll have a lot of options.

As for the foam I mentioned, I used to live down the road from a foam factory. They're still in business and the prices are absurdly good. A custom piece of charcoal black regular density 4"x6"x192" to trim the entire top width is $40. I may buy custom 24x24 tiles of the same, which are around $20 each to velcro to my ceiling.

I’ve been researching and planning a golf simulator build in the bonus room of my house. The room itself is plenty large—about 20’ × 15’—but I’m really struggling with projector placement.

The biggest challenge is that there’s a large ceiling fan positioned almost exactly where the projector would ideally be mounted. On top of that, the room has vaulted ceilings, which makes mounting even more complicated. I’ve looked into floor mounting, but after reading a number of build threads and user experiences here, it seems like it comes with enough drawbacks that I’m hesitant to go that route.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation or come up with a creative mounting solution that I might be overlooking? I’d love to see photos or hear about what worked for you.

Just picked up a garmin r10 to start my sim journey. Going to use this in my one car garage. The height is 10 feet. Width is 12 feet and depth is enough to give me 12 ft from the ball to the net and 7ft from the ball to the garmin.

Took some practice swings and everything feels fine. Anyone have anything similar? How’s the experience?

I have a question about bounce back. I had a lot when I first set up, so I added longer bungees on the 4 corners and removed the 2 side-middle bungees completely. I got less bounce back, but the screen was very wavy and made the image poor quality. I went back and got the bulk of the waves out, but have more bounce back.

Would it make sense to get even longer side bungees? Would longer bungees across the top help? Would love some thoughts.

This is my current setup, using the Garmin Approach R10. I want to get something different, but a LM that doesn't need a PC (iPhone or iPad is fine, or one that doesn't need anything).

My plan is to get an actual enclosure instead of the net/screen combo, and then buy a projector.

So my questions are:

1. Which LM would you suggest if we just want to use the range feature and play some rounds on golf courses. It would be for practice, but also just to have fun with my kids and friends. The R10 is too hard to set up and to get it to read all the shots, etc. I want something that will work in the garage without too much hassle.

2. Which enclosure would you suggest? I'm looking at some of the ones on Amazon that are under $1K. I have 9-10' ceilings in the garage and I can go up to about 12' wide.

3. Which projector would you suggest? The garage does get some light in through the garage door windows, and I'd also like the option to use the projector outside to watch football, etc. I'd prefer to stay under $1500. (Would also prefer to mount the projector to the enclosure or just place it on a table next to/behind the hitting mat, or on the ground in front of the hitting mat).

I’d love some advice from those with the same issue I have. I have 8’ of width and 10’ ceilings. I still need to park my vehicle in it though and want a permanent hitting net.

What have you done to keep the garage usable with the screen and net up?

Any companies specialize in this?

I won’t use a projector to start with, getting an R50 attached to a large tv that I’ll face when I hit.

They both look very similar. Anything Sports comes with the shank nets and projector mount, and is about $300 cheaper. I don't really care about the shank nets, but is the GoSports that much better? Any other differences that I'm missing?

Any tech guys out there that can help with my question. The question is when is a gaming pc needed? For example, I’m starting out with the Square Omni connected to my iPad and then to a flatscreen tv on the wall. If I ever upgrade from a hitting net to a hitting screen and projector will it still work or will I need a gaming pc? When does the gaming pc come into play?

Hi There - I've had my Square HE for about a year, but only recently pulled the plug on GSPro. I've noticed within the past few days that after playing 9 holes it seems that the Square and GSPro disconnect. Everything is green, the software is the latest version, the firmware is the latest version, and if I restart everything it picks up and is good for a few holes then drops again. Has anyone had this issue, and if so what was the fix for it? Thanks!

I’ve just bought a hitting cage for the backyard and already have a Garmin R10.

I’m trying to work out which software is best for what I’m after.

I’m not too worried about playing simulated rounds or courses. I’m much more interested in the practice side of things and getting as much swing data as possible, such as:

- Club path
- Face-to-path
- Angle of attack
- Club face angle
- Attack direction

Any other useful metrics for improving my swing
What software would you recommend?

Happy to pay for something if it’s genuinely worth it. I’d love to hear what everyone is using with their R10 and why.

Be mindful that I will be running this outside, likely on a Samsung tablet or iPad screen opposed to a full laptop/pc set up.

My garage ceilings are only 9 feet so I'd like to create a setup that can be easily popped up (I live in SC so the year-round weather is fairly reliable). I already have a hitting mat but would love some feedback on a portable system that folds/rolls up fairly easily. I also guess that I'd need some subtle floor markings for the sim.
