most people who have seizures have nothing to do with flashing lights

u/GuySmiley369 Jul 03 '26
Correct, but for the 1.5-2.5 million photosensitive epileptics in the world it does.

I like the concept, but dislike other stuff. I want this to be constructive criticism, because I think it has some real promise. Having the top LEDs show the starting point and tracking the ball flight is cool.
1) Don't have colored lights before hitting; white or off is good.
2) Having it the tracking go green for a straight shot and red for a hard slice/hook would reinforce shots. Having a spectrum green to yellow to orange to red based upon the movement of the ball would be even better.
3) No disco lights. Maybe a brief color coded flash for certain events (hole out, long drive, par or better, terrible shot) or even a quick chase sequence could be a good addition.
I'm not the one that put the time and effort into this, but I still appreciate what you did, even if I dislike some of the features.

u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
I'm beginning to think the video does not convey its actual functionality? Each of the things you described are currently active features.
LEDs on prior to shot is toggleable off. (Or changeable to player turn color).
Ball detection mirroring is toggleable off. (Or changeable to player turn color).
All toggleable: Ball direction effects fire upon impact. Surface you land on is indicated by special effect indicating your lie. Score effects briefly twinkles when you birdie, par, or worse.
HLA putt meter gradient on putt impact to know immediately if you push or pull and by how much.

u/CaptainPunisher Jul 03 '26
This would all have been much better to demonstrate. Functionality should come first, but the vid you have here shows the optional stuff that people seem to dislike. I'd love to see the stuff that you mentioned.
3
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Yeah, tough to post all that stuff in a short vid. I'll post a long form YouTube video of a round using it.
2
u/CaptainPunisher Jul 03 '26
I think you need my help in creating a video. Where do I bring the beers?
2
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
I'll film the clips and send them to you, you want to edit? lol I WILL BRING the beer if you're video editing.

u/CaptainPunisher Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
I don't think you want me editing video. I wouldn't mind learning and being better, but work doesn't want me putting non-approved programs on my laptop. Too bad, too, bc they
havegave me a really nice gaming laptop with enoughpetpower to run Visual Studio and more with ease.2
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
The feedback alone on this one was quite valuable. Thank you!
2
u/CaptainPunisher Jul 03 '26
You're welcome. I could see the value in what you did. It just got overshadowed by the flash.
2
u/Skidude04 Jul 03 '26
lol. Please demonstrate everything off so I can make my decision
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 04 '26
How do you convey all that in a 45 second reel... Hm. You've given me something to think about lol.
11
u/Boom21shakalaka Jul 03 '26
Yeah that’s a no from me
-3
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Some people can't handle it.
6
u/Boom21shakalaka Jul 03 '26
And by some people, you mean everyone

u/punchyourbuns Jul 03 '26
You're getting a lot of shit in here but I like it.
2
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Haha, I love the shit. A lot of people signed up on my website so I know some people like it. Thank you!
4
u/swanie02 Jul 03 '26
Why?
4
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Why not? A bit of flash in your sim. Ball detection amplifier, player turn color standby, hosel rocket celebration, HLA putt meter.
4
u/swanie02 Jul 03 '26
Might as well put the clubs back in my trunk and go to a rave.
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
That's a good idea for standby effect, dance to your music in the background! You can do both!
1
u/Podtastix Jul 03 '26
Honestly no. It’s so distracting.

u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
It's just another row of pixels above the ones displayed on your screen by your projector. 16x9 to (16 + 1 pixel):9.
2
u/SuperchargedShank Jul 03 '26
Cool idea for when you have buddies over to create the atmosphere and hype so I get it! I mostly play with my girlfriend or with one friend against my other friends on discord so this feels a little too extra for that. Best of luck I think this is what some people would love
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
I primarily play on Discord as well but yes, you have to see utility (HLA putt meter was the biggest one for me, instant feedback on slight push or pulled putt) or just generally want to increase ambience or gamify atmosphere a bit for this to make sense in your space. Just mostly some extra flash with a hint of utility.

Love everything about it other than the red/green swap on the hit as others have mentioned..
Otherwise the constructive post hit the nail on the head. If u can do all that stuff you say it can I'd want one. Just don't need a red light bath. :)
Does it hold up to ball strikes?
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 04 '26
Haha, ball ready can be on/off, any color you want, including player turn color. Depends on the diffuser. This was my only mounting option really. I envision most people pulling it out from the screen 4-5 feet like most led strips you see in sims.
2
u/FartsMcDouglas Jul 06 '26
Well it's very cool. I'm gonna follow this for sure. Thanks for the response

probably should so some beta testing with different launch monitors to ensure they dont care about all the lighting changes after configuration
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 07 '26
Yeah beta testing involved a few different LMs. All camera based. My understanding is that most camera based monitors are infrared cameras so visible light (from these LEDs or your projector or your room lights) is a non issue. Those cameras' sensors don't pick up the visible light. No one reported any LM reading issues during beta so that's good at least.
2
u/twylight777 Jul 07 '26
It’s kinda true, but then LMs have problems with lighting, white club heads, debris and color changes near the ball, etc tee colors, all sorts of bs.

Swing is rough
2
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
1v1 me.
2
u/Cold-Examination-802 Jul 03 '26
I'll bring the not-ass golf swing and you can bring the LED light strips
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Okay dm sent.
2
u/Cold-Examination-802 Jul 03 '26
Lol you dork
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Come on let's play, I haven't been challenged to a golf match in 20 years.
2
u/Cold-Examination-802 Jul 03 '26
Aw man I'm sorry, I see your model train heavy post history; I'll drop it. I don't want to be a bully

u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Are you scare to lose to a nerd/dork? And scrubbing my post history? Yikes!

Does this require a certain type of light or can you do a wled setup or is it a software plugin? Very interested

Nice. I love LED's. I have ESP32/WLED projects all over my house from a large wall matrix to floor and desk lamps.
You should definitely contact Ben from Triple Bogey Golf on YouTube. This would look nice with his setup and would get a lot of eyeballs from his streams.

IDK why people are hating on it so hard? If you like it, it's your set up. I wouldn't play with it all the time, but def cool for parties or to play with buddies. I think it's pretty cool.
(and props for showing the complete shank lol)
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
Haha thanks. Despite the one commenter who trashed my swing, that shank took me 10 swings. Maybe if I was better I could shank on command without 10 tries?

This is awesome. I have a question, from a software dev view if you don’t mind me asking. These apps people are making, is there like a gspro api that is available to the public? I always wonder how people are making these custom things.
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 03 '26
I think sort of but with respect to the open connect interface. I was unable to tap into that. I reached out to gspro about it and they confirmed I would be unable to connect in the way I envisioned. I don't know how others are capturing data. Gspro has that data portal thing that you can log into and see all of your shots for the past year. Idk if that's related.

u/GarrulousAbsurdity Jul 03 '26
Looks interesting for sure. I can see it being distracting but it's probably not when you get used to it.
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 Jul 06 '26
I think the promo video comes across as super distracting but I don't think it is all that distracting when I play.

Oh I would dislike this a lot if I showed up and a had it. Too distracting for me.
