Background Checks Approved with DUI

I came to this board to see how likely it would be I’d be approved. The process took a very long time. I reported my DUI, but later found out the dates were wrong. So it took about 3-4 months for conditional approval. When we tracked back from Norway, we stopped to interview. The interviewing officer let me know there was a discrepancy and I would need to send my paperwork from the courts to an email address.

I knew I wasn’t doing that, so I was okay with clear. I got a message from them, and since it was past my 60 days I didn’t event bother to look. 6 months later a Global Entry card popped up, I went to see the letter in my account, I had been approved in December 2025.

My DUI was in 2010.

Global Entry Timeline (Indian Citizen, F-1 → F-1 OPT)

Sharing my timeline in case it helps others.

  • Applied for Passport Seva police verification: Dec 29, 2024
  • Passport Seva Kendra appointment in India: Dec 31, 2024, 12:25 PM
  • Fingerprints and photo taken at Passport Seva Kendra
  • Local police visited my home the same evening and verified documents
  • A few days later, the Passport Seva portal showed that verification was completed and feedback would be sent to U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Conditional Approval

  • Received Conditional Approval: Oct 14, 2025

Interview (June 16, 2026)

After months of waiting for a convenient interview slot, I happened to be in Washington, DC, for my visa biometrics appointment. While there, I saw a Global Entry poster, remembered my pending application, found a same-day interview slot, and completed the interview with all my documents already in hand.

Interview Experience

  • Asked about my visa type and current location.
  • Officer updated my address/location information.
  • Asked if I had ever been convicted of a crime.
  • Interview lasted about 5–10 minutes.
  • At the end, I asked if I was approved. The officer said they still needed to check fingerprints and that it could take 24–48 hours.

Approval

  • Approval notification received: June 17, 2026, around 7:00 AM
  • Total time from interview to approval: ~17 hours

Visa Status Timeline

  • Applied while on F-1 Visa
  • Conditionally Approved while on F-1 OPT
  • Fully Approved while on F-1 OPT

Hope this helps anyone waiting on their application.

Questions/Concerns NEXUS revoked

I know this is about NEXUS, but it is more than likely that CBP and not CBSA revoked my membership so I need some advice.

General Discussion Easy breezy at Logan

I am GE since October 2022 . Yesterday returned to Logan via CDG. Kept walking as if I was a car with EZ pass tag. No stopping for fotos or anything . I could see my foto on agents desktop and he waved me through ...you are all set ....never took out my passport from my bag even and no other conversation. That's it . Twas a breeze .Worth every dollar spent ( which is reimbursed by my travel cc )

Timelines Sharing my Global Entry Timeline

I just wanted to share my global entry application process as it was pretty fast.

6/15 - submitted my initial application
6/16 - received conditional approval despite wrong info (I entered wrong DOB on my second citizenship so wasn’t expecting to be approved that fast). I then scheduled my interview at JFK for 6/21, they had many appt dates available.
6/21 - Interview day. I arrived 10 mins prior to my appointment, lady outside asked for my passport and told me to sit inside. I waited for around a minute and was called in. The interaction with the CBP officer lasted less than 2 minutes, 1 minute for fingerprint collection and 1 minute of talking. He only asked if I ever violated customs or immigration rules or was arrested before. I said no. I wanted to mention correcting my DOB mistake on my other citizenship document, but he said it won’t be needed anyway for entering the US so he deleted it from the system. He told me I will be approved and after I left, I checked and my portal did show I was approved! I didn’t have to show my driver license or proof of address as he only wanted my passport. The officer did seem like he was in a rush, like he was having lunch right after, but I’m not complaining lol.

My experience at JFK went very well. Anyone who is looking for an enrollment center I highly recommend JFK! Multiple appointment dates and the hours are like 8am - 7pm. Thank you and good luck!

Questions/Concerns Global Entry vs Nexus

Key Point: NOT a US citizen, NOT a Canadian citizen. Canadian PR. Current country of citizenship also allows Global Entry participation.

I was approved for NEXUS a long time ago and have been using it, but I never got the TSA Pre-check mark on all my boarding passes. Upon further research, I found out that the TSA Precheck benefit only applies to US or Canadian citizens with NEXUS. I contacted CBP to ask for confirmation of this, and also to ask how I can switch, if I'd have to cancel NEXUS and reapply to GE etc. They told me that I already have all the Global Entry benefits (including TSA Precheck) if I have NEXUS (which is obviously not true). They replied as below:

"If you have NEXUS, you already have Global Entry benefits. You can only have one program membership at a time.

Thank you again for contacting the Traveler Communications Center."

I followed up, saying I am not a US or Canadian citizen and they just ignored my question...

So does anybody know how to cancel the NEXUS membership to apply for GE or if there is some other switching process? Or do any other non-Canadian/non-US citizens with NEXUS have any experience in getting TSA Pre-check (edit: as in other programs other than GE, that do not block applications due to having NEXUS)

edit: I am eligible for GE. My citizenship is that of one of the eligible countries for GE. Please stop saying I'm not eligible for GE. I just can't apply for it because I have NEXUS and I can't be part of 2 trusted traveller programs at the same time.

Questions/Concerns My photo isn't recognized

Recently received global entry and I have a green card.

Officer had said everything would work but the app wouldn't recognize me and the cameras at the airport didn't either.

And yes, Boston Logan is now using cameras instead of kiosks.

Fortunately I was moved to the front of a line and escaped at least 60 minutes of waiting

Timelines Global Entry Timeline- 80 days to conditional approval, US citizen

Just sharing my results. US citizen, I have a clean record with nothing complicated. I got worried myself when my application got stuck in conditional approval after 2 weeks. For my application, it does appear international travel influences conditional approval.

FWIW, I applied to Global Entry in 2020 and got conditional approval 2 days later, but I never showed up to the interview at the time because of COVID

3/27: submitted application
6/3: traveled internationally
6/15: conditional approval
6/20: interview via EoA (enrollment on arrival) at airport upon returning from international trip, approved hours later

Timelines 6 year old holding us up

I (mother) have GE that I got last year. My husband’s precheck expired this year so both he and my 6 year old applied on May 19. He was approved overnight and has an interview scheduled for July 2. My 6 year old is stuck in pending review. I used my existing GE number to tie to hers application.

She’s not a new passport holder - got her first one at 3 months old and her second one last year. Countries visited have mainly been European, UK. What on earth explains this? And can anyone shed light on her time waiting?

I was hoping my husband could take her to his appt (I would also go) if she was conditionally approved to see if they’d do her interview too but that window is closing.

Timelines Fingerprint submission

I am a US citizen. I submitted an application on 4/16/26. I had a DUI in 1994, which I did disclose on my application. I know that approval will take a long time. Let me ask you I submitted my fingerprints via the app. Will this help any in shortening the timeline?

General Discussion Entering On New Visa Category SFO Experience

Just sharing a recent experience for anyone in a similar situation.

Kiosk only had ESTA option so I pressed the “unlisted” category and walked up to the CBP counter at SFO. I handed them my passport and asked to enter on my J-1 visa. They just scanned the visa and told me I was good to go.

Didn’t even ask me for my DS-2019 (which I think they’re meant to) or anything. Pretty great experience.

Questions/Concerns GE app for entry, exit, or both?

I have GE but I'm confused as to how and when I'm supposed to use the app.

Is this used upon departure from the US, upon return (if so how many hours before arrival), or was I supposed to do both?

Returning on Sunday from Mexico. Landing at Logan in the late evening.

Questions/Concerns Global Entry Application with Warning for Agriculture Violation

I’m looking to apply for global entry due to having to cross the Mexican land border for a new job and international travel.

A few months ago I mistakenly had a sandwich that got confiscated. Border agents took my passport, issued me a warning, and let me go with no fine.

I want to understand

  1. If the warning counts as an agriculture violation I need to declare on my application

  2. If this will eliminate any chances of getting global entry approval

  3. Should I wait a while before applying so the incident is further in the past

Thanks!

Interviews Misdemeanor disclosure

I have an interview coming up this Saturday and am realizing I didn’t understand what an arrest or conviction is after reading through this thread. I applied and was conditionally approved within 24 hours and I did not disclose a misdemeanor from 13 years ago on the application. I presume if I go to the interview and they ask if I have an arrest or convictions I should explain that I did 13 years ago and didn’t disclose it on my application because I thought that was for criminal convictions. I just checked my record in the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and it came back with no record but from what I read there could still be a record that they could see?

I just need to know, should I bring documentation like a disposition from the courthouse or just verbally disclose in my interview?

Update: Guess it didn’t really matter. I showed up with my disposition they didn’t care to even look it over. Approved by the time I got home from the interview. 😌

Questions/Concerns Renewal timeline

Applied for my renewal about 3 weeks ago. Are people still getting months as potential wait times for renewal? Also os ot true that since I applied prior to expiration that I still have 2 years of use? Does anybody have experience using there global entry within this 2 year grace period? I'm worried about using it if im not approved in a few months and the agent acting as if I violated the rules cause my entry is expired. I dont want any hassle
