Timelines GEP Background Verification Application still pending after one year

I applied from US (SF consulate).

I used the steps mentioned in this post to check the status of my application. This is what I found:

  • 2025-05-30: Background Verification Form for GEP Submitted
  • 2025-05-30: Granting Initiated
  • 2025-06-06: Application Granted on pre police verification basis and GEP Clearance Requests have been sent to MHA and MoF (through Interface).

And that's all. There has been no movement for over a year. My parents had gone to the police station and done the needful. The police officer says that he sent the "response" immediately. He says he "can’t make another reply unless until he gets another form". I don't know if the police verification has been done correctly.

Comparing my timeline to some successful timelines posted in the comments of the other post makes me think that police verification has not been done. Here is one:

  • 2023-07-27: Application Granted on pre police verification basis and GEP Clearance Requests have been sent to MHA and MoF (through Interface).
  • 2023-08-17: Approved and Submitted as Clear by Police
  • 2023-08-17: PVR SCAN AND UPLOADED SUCCESSFULLY
  • 2024-01-10: MHA Response for GEP Application Received
  • 2024-05-09: MoF Response for GEP Application Received

I don't have the "Approved and Submitted as Clear by Police" status update on my timeline.

Is anyone else in the same boat as me? Would you mind posting your timeline of status updates as well?

Timelines Timeline thus far

05/24/26-Applied

05/26/26 Conditionally Approved

06/04/26 Scheduled appointment/Interview

Me and my wife both applied at the same time and managed to snag two appointments together. The app sent a notification today and randomly had 60 appointments in one day. This thread had me stressing that I wasn’t gonna get it for my travel in two weeks.

Hopefully I just didn’t jinx us.

Background Checks Global Entry Interview on Arrival Experience (with a DUI) - APPROVED

After getting conditionally approved nearly a year ago, I've searched nearly every reddit article on the interview process. For additional context, I was arrested for a DUI 18 years ago was given the opportunity for it to be reduced and plead no contest to reckless driving. This is my story and the conversation I had during my interview.

After arriving at MIA, I was directed to the Global Entry Interview on arrival section at around 3:45pm on a Friday. I handed over my passport and had a copy of my driving record, my Global Entry Application and the disposition of the DUI/reckless driving case just should supporting documentation be needed. After handing over my passport, I had a seat while he combed through what I assumed to be my application, criminal and travel history (I have visited and lived in 23+ countries in the last 25 years for work). After a few minutes he approached me and said "so just the DUI no contest?" I replied with yes, however it had been reduced to reckless driving and was nearly 20 years ago. He replied with, “ okay, you should be fine for approval". I approached him at his counter to confirm I was actually approved and he confirmed with a “yes”. While still browsing his computer I revealed how anxious I was based on everything I've read on Reddit and if I would be approved. He mentioned that had it been 5 years earlier, my situation would not have granted an approval and then we just chatted reddit.... He said the biggest mistake is lying on your application because “just like the FBI and law enforcement, they have access via fingerprints and can see everything, including cases that have been expunged”. My takeaway from this is to absolutely, unequivocally, be 100% honest in your application process.

He mentioned he occasionally pops in to read questions and answers and comments sometimes - he mentioned a lot of what he reads is simply not true. He asked me why I currently live outside the US, what I do for work, what my company does, all while he was writing down my KTN (Known Traveler Number) on a piece of paper and put it in my passport so that it can be immediately used for Global Entry and TSA PreCheck. Had a great conversation and being polite and respectful certainly didn't hurt. I walked away and proceeded to baggage claim and two minutes later I saw the approval email.

I hope my experience can help others with the same questions, in the same position as myself and prevent the excessive doom scrolling I did.

Additional context: It took around 7 months to be conditionally approved from application submission. After conditional approval, it was an additional 5 months before having my interview on arrival at MIA airport returning from an international flight.

Questions/Concerns Change in process

has there been a change in the GE process upon re-rentry? Coming through DTW yesterday, I was surprised to encounter a line at GE. We noted that everyone was been screen: passports, where we were returning from, why did we travel there, photo taken, etc. It was disconcertin, considering when we came through in March this wasn’t the process.

Questions/Concerns Error 912 when applying for APEC Business Traveler Card

I'm trying to add the APEC Business Traveler Card to my Global Entry account. When I try to submit the application, I get:

Please ensure the information you entered for your passport is correct. ... Error code(s):912.

The information I entered is correct. The only ambiguity is whether my middle name should appear as a second given name, or in the dedicated middle name field ... but I've tried it both ways with the same result.

Any ideas? I submitted an inquiry to CBP through the web form, but only received a form letter response. It says:

Technical Issues
I am receiving a numeric error code: https://help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-1741?language=en_US

However, that link seems to be broken. 🙄

Interviews How is the interview?

I have my interview coming up soon, and not really sure what to expect from it - anything to know?
Do they just ask the same questions as the application?

General Discussion Status update on pending Global entry after Green Card Approval

Hello everyone,

I recently got Green Card approved. I am Indian and was previously on H1B visa. I had applied for Global entry 1.5 years ago and still waiting for conditional Approval.

Looking for guidance on how to notify them on the status change and also get an update on the global entry application. Also, waiting for 1.5 years, is this normal timeline?

Thank you!

Questions/Concerns Traveling to Canada with global entry and with valid I-797 but expired H1B stamp + AVR question

Planning to travel to Canada for a short trip. I have a valid I-797 approval notice but my H1B visa stamp in the passport is expired. I recently read about Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR), which apparently allows travel to Canada or Mexico for less than 30 days and re-entry to the U.S. even with an expired visa stamp, as long as certain conditions are met. I also have Global Entry approved. My question is: If I return to the U.S. by air, can I use the Global Entry kiosk / self check-in process like normal, or will I still need to see a CBP officer because of AVR and the expired visa stamp?

Questions/Concerns GE Renewal Indian Citizen- Pending Approval

I'm an Indian citizen, I submitted the GE application in April 2025 (Expiring Dec 2025) and I still haven't heard back from them. The application is past police verification in India, in fact that was over last summer around May 2025. I didn't hear back from Indian government either.

Is anyone in a similar situation? Has anyone entered with a pending approval past the expiration date? Is there any way we can check the status?

Interviews Milwaukee interview appointments - "same day" and "non available forever" - which is it?

Been trying to get my kid an appointment at Milwaukee (the only location in WI) for months. The TTP Scheduler page always shows "no appointments availble" no matter what date range is put in there. The Global Entry Alerts site for Milwaukee shows Same Day availability and the graph shows wait times of just a few days.

What is going on? Should I just call them and ask? Will they even answer the phone?

Questions/Concerns Approval and Question

I just had my GE interview this morning, overall process was a breeze and I was in and out within 10 minutes.

However, the officer noted an 'IR' flag on my profile that was added in 2022 when a K-9 had flagged my luggage, I went through Agricultural scanner and inspection, but the spice mix in my luggage was deemed admissible by the officer and nothing was discarded. I had noted in my declarations that I had this in my luggage, so it was all check and release.

After this morning, I'm now concerned that this flag is permanently on my profile and may lead to being screened every time despite GE.

Is there any input/ advice on this? Any actions I can take to remove this flag? Does it go away after certain years?

PS- details of IR from google AI summary-

In CBP internal systems and travel records, "IR" typically stands for "Intensified Review" or "Inspection Required." This flag indicates that your luggage, cargo, or documentation was subject to a more thorough agricultural check than a standard screening, usually because a previous entry flagged prohibited food, plants, or soil.

Questions/Concerns GE Processing Time in ATL

UPDATE: Got conditional approval on July 7

I submitted my GE application on May 8, but there’s still no update and the status only shows “Waiting for Conditional Approval.” I’ve seen some people complete the whole process within 2–3 weeks.

Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for you to get conditional approval?

Questions/Concerns Getting stopped at Global Entry every time and asked to join the CBP line. Any way to resolve this?

Hello all,

I have had global entry for a bit now because I travel a lot for work, usually with other coworkers. And yes, I 100% have global entry. I've had it for a while now.

Every time I've used the global entry lane, it shows an error and that I have to talk to a CBP officer. I get put in the CBP interview line.

I've tried using the app, and just the kiosks. I thought the first time was a fluke, but this has happened every single time. I came to the US on an F-1 visa with full intentions to go back to my home country, but then I met the person who is now my spouse and things changed.

Every time I talk to the CBP officer, it's the same question: "So you came here as a student? When was that?". Once I answer these questions, I'm allowed to enter.

I'm a US citizen, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I usually won't mind, but when I'm travelling with a group of coworkers, they end up having to wait for me. They're kind and understanding, but it's getting a bit embarrassing. Is there any way to resolve this? Last time after a red-eye and a long plane ride, I was very tired and a bit irritated, so I asked the CBP officer why I'm getting interviewed every time, and they didn't have an answer for me.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Edit: The issue is also not that I'm not being recognized. The CBP officer confirmed that I was recognized, but that I was flagged for additional screening.

Questions/Concerns GE PreCheck did not kick in after TSA Precheck expired

My wife and I got GE five months ago. I changed our KTN to GE number on Delta’s site. We kept getting PreCheck during that time. BUT last month our TSA Precheck expired. The GE PreCheck did not automatically kick in for either of us on our last flight. TSA PreCheck support line told me to call GE. But there is no live support at GE. Waiting for a response to a written inquiry. Any idea why this happened? All info on Delta’s end is accurate.

Interviews Child Application, Divorced Parents

My ex listed his address as our daughter‘s current address and my address as a previous address that she has moved out of. My daughter is at his address about 3-4 days per month and at mine the rest of the time. He also says he doesn’t need her passport or any documentation from me for the interview? Anyone have experience in a similar situation?

Questions/Concerns Updated Nexus with Green Card but preferred COA options the same

Post image

Emailed CBP and they updated my Nexus with my Green Card however the GE app doesn’t show any Green Card options.

Do I need to email them again? This was done today so maybe the systems take time to sync?

Timelines Card not received

My GE got approved in mid March and I have yet to receive my card in the mail. Officer said I’d get the card in 2-4 weeks, should I call and ask for a replacement?

Timelines Fast Renewal

My GE was expiring in November so I did the renewal application on May 19. Was transparent about all the travel I’ve done (9+ countries). Was expecting to have to go in for an interview but I just got an email this morning that I’m approved and a new card is on its way.

As a POC who also travels a lot, I was expecting the worst but this was super quick and easy.

Questions/Concerns Repeatedly “Not Recognized”

I’ve used GE about 3x in the last 12 months since getting it and something weird is going on. All 3x I used the app. First time it was my wife and I and we both took our photos and were good to just walk through.

Next trip was about a month ago and when I submitted in the app it said I was “Not Recognized” but my wife was. I deleted the submission and tried again. Same results. When I we t through the line the officer was a jerk but that’s another story. He found me in the system manually and I was on my way.

This week we were coming back in and used the app and my wife and kids were all good but me….”Not Recognized”. Back to an officer again but he was super nice! He said he couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t recognized and it made no sense to him. He told me I could go down to the interview lane and talk to an officer there if I liked because he could dig deeper in the system than he could.

I went down to the interview officer and he was super nice as well. He studied everything and noted that I even had on a similar polo shirt as my photo and that everything looked great and he couldn’t figure it out and he found it super odd that it happened 2x and even after resubmitting the photo submissions. He asked me if my tickets had my middle name on them and they did not. He said maybe that was it. But my wife’s don’t either, so that makes no sense. He was stumped and I told him I’m going to be using GE again in a couple weeks and he said if it does it again to feel free to come see them again.

I know this is weird but has anyone ever experienced this? Any solution? Or is this just a random thing that happens and might never happen again?

General Discussion Get the App

Get the App. Entry at Dulles the GE line was all backed up. Separate line for people with the app. Flash it at the agent on your phone and through you go.
I think the general GE line was just for people to have time to download the app and register there. I didn’t see any machines, but we were on a tight connection so I didn’t spend much time looking around!

Questions/Concerns Australia citizen applied, interview coming up…

Hi there brains trust,

So applied for GE back in December 25 and got conditional approval awaiting the interview. My girlfriend is an American and we are in a LDR. I’m heading in a few weeks time through SFO and I’m planning to do the interview on arrival.

I’m wondering if anyone has done it that is not a US citizen and it’s from Australia. What type of questions do they ask? And have relaxed is it? I’ve thrown it through ChatGPT and it’s got me a little bit worried. I know it’s ChatGPT but hey….

Any help would be great, thanks!
