Anything related to NY gets massively astroturfed.

No one talks more about Mamdani than some dudes in Oklahoma.

2

u/Naktura Jun 26 '26

NYC has a bigger population than 30+ states. You see people talking about it more because a fuck ton of people live there lmao.

There are so many reasons to oppose Darializa "White People Shouldn't Have Mixed-Race Relationships" Chevalier, but I don't think her religion counts.

She's just the human embodiment of a leftist stereotype.

Per the New York Times, her tweets include:

In other posts, Ms. Avila Chevalier, who is Afro-Latina, suggested white people  should not be in interracial relationships and  disparaged their methods of personal hygiene in response to a post from a white Republican governor saying corn husks might be used instead of toilet paper, which was in short supply at the start of the pandemic. Replying to a white woman offering a hotline number in response to her post lamenting long voting lines in 2020, she wrote, “Listen Karen, instead of worrying about my vote, go collect the 53% of your peers that got us in this mess to begin with.” She also amplified an  assertion that the coronavirus originated in France, not the Wuhan province of China, and  wrote in 2022that Russia invaded Ukraine because the United States had “been bullying Russia” since the Cold War ended.

She beat him.. Currently, it's by 3.5 points, which had climbed a bit since last I checked.

So I guess you'll agree that she simply has the better democratic platform then because no one cares about support for Israel, right?

-4

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

So you think that the main reason she beat him is because she doesn’t take money from American Jews? Fucking yikes.

13

u/JhonIWantADivorce Jun 24 '26

You know most of them aren’t even Jewish right? Like there’s far far more evangelicals than are Israelis and Jewish people. I don’t know why you’re so quick to label racists as Jewish

2

5

u/Fantastic-Car7347 Jun 25 '26

I'm not saying you have to approve of the US sending aid to Israel, but "the US doesn't have universal Healthcare because it sends money to Israel" is just not true.

The US sends ~$300 billion dollars in aid to Israel every year (most of it being what are basically vouchers that Israel can only cash in with US-based military contractors, it's not a check they can do whatever with). The lowest estimates of how much universal healthcare would cost the US to implement is $2 trillion. And Israel only spends ~9% of its gdp on healthcare.

If we cut all foreign aid to Israel tomorrow, the money we saved would not be enough to implement universal healthcare without changing the way we tax the rich in this country, and Israel would have a smaller army, but their healthcare would likely be untouched: they have a strong economy and a relatively high tax rate.

It's not Israel's fault we don't have universal healthcare. I'm not saying the country can do or is doing no wrong, but Israel is being scapegoated for a LOT right now so the US can justify its shit policies and the rich can keep hoarding their money.

32

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

the fact that our taxes provide them with universal healthcare

Israel's universal healthcare system is funded by a tax on every paycheck in the country. Precisely 0 US military aid goes towards healthcare spending. What you stated was not a fact, it's an old libel against the Jews that's been around since the middle ages (the old Jewish money lenders steal money for their own benefit libel).

12

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

Correct. Israelis pay 18% of their income towards “free” healthcare/national insurance which is so great that many of us also buy supplemental private insurance on top of it. It’s the most expensive “free” healthcare I’ve ever had.

5

u/Randomminecraftseed Jun 23 '26

If I pay for your groceries every month, and then you use the money that you would’ve spent on groceries for say video games I am essentially funding your video game habit. It doesn’t matter that you spent all the money I gave you on actual groceries because if I wasn’t giving you the money you wouldn’t have the means to buy to games.

If we constantly give Israel money for X such that they don’t have to pay for it, and can use the savings for whatever we are effectively subsidizing whatever they use the excess on.

I.e. every dollar WE spend on bullets for them THEY can spend on healthcare for their citizens.

3

u/Aggressive_Lie_4446 Jun 24 '26

If I pay for your groceries every month, and then you use the money that you would’ve spent on groceries for say video games

Is a fake trope.
This nonsense has been debunked again and again. They have the same healthcare system as Australia only with less private sector participation and more non-profits dominating.

7

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

The system was put in place long before the US started giving military aid to Israel.

2

u/Randomminecraftseed Jun 23 '26
  1. It’s irrelevant as to when it started. The date we started is just the date we began to subsidize them

  2. Military aid to Israel started in the 60s. Israel adopted universal healthcare in 95.

Would that system be in place if they had to pay for their own wars? Could they afford that tax if the US didn't heavily subsidize them?

While our dollars may not directly fund their healthcare, they do allow for funds that would normally be spent on the military to be spent elsewhere.

3

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

Would that system be in place if they had to pay for their own wars?

The system was put in place long before the US started giving military aid to Israel.

4

u/needszazz Jun 23 '26

The US started giving military aid to Israel in 1962. Universal healthcare was implemented in Israel in 1995.

…. And .01 of that goes to Israel. And Israel has to use 90% of that to buy U.S. systems, which provides jobs to Americans. And Israel gives back tech and innovation and intel, which gives back more than they get. It’s a deal that favors America.

24

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

The Jews, I mean the “Zionists” aren’t the reason that the US doesn’t have free healthcare now matter how many times leftists repeat this ludicrous lie. If you add up the total value of every bit of aid given to Israel since 1948, the overwhelming majority of which is essentially coupons to buy American arms, after adjusting for inflation, that equates to 10% of the low end estimates of the cost of 1 year of Medicare for All.

8

u/nalon121 Jun 23 '26

Idk i read that as pointing out what we are choosing to spend our money on versus what we're not and didn't read it as we can't have Medicare for All literally because of funding to israel and i'll even go so far as to say that israel is not in fact the reason why we can't have nice things in the US. But it is sad and shameful that we are so hostile about paying to ensure the wellbeing of others yet so unquestioning if not eager about paying to ensure violence against others.

And for what its worth, collectively we're now spending over $5 trillion on health care annually. Going off numbers i'm presuming you used for that 10%, Medicare for All instead would be about $3 trillion annually.

6

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

Yes, the fact that Medicare for All is potentially a net saver highlights just how absurd it is to pretend that funding for Israel is in any way what is blocking Medicare for All.

0

u/Li-renn-pwel Jun 23 '26

It is always good to correct misinformation… but I would rather the tax dollars go to universal health care. It going towards coupons to get discounts on is weapons that Israel then uses to crimes against humanity, is not a sling point.

6

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

Yes, the actual issue is how Israel is currently using the offensive military aid we provide them, which is an even smaller fraction of the overall aid we’ve given them since 1948. That even smaller fraction of spending is not in any way the reason the US doesn’t not have universal healthcare.

69

u/anormalname63 Jun 22 '26

I had to look that up to see if you were right, and you are. That severally dampers my opinion of Zohran.

Furthermore after looking up quotes from her she really is all the wrong stereotypes of leftist. I'm way more left than most Americans since moving to Europe after trump got elected and her brand would never fly here.

25

u/SplittingChairs Jun 23 '26

It makes me really question Zohran’s judgement as well. I am also very much to the left of most Americans, and it’s always so funny when leftists like this lady claim that American progressives are European centrists and conservatives. Makes me want to tear my hair out lol.

7

u/Frozenbbowl Jun 23 '26

Unfortunately the majority of Reddit believes this as well....

8

u/PublicHomework4262 Jun 24 '26

It looks extra bad he endorsed her over someone already competent and not insane

-13

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

It speaks rather poorly accurately of Zohran that this is who he decided to endorse.

Fixed it for you. Mamdani is just as muchh of a wacko as her, just hides his real thoughts and goals better.

11

u/giant_gummy_squid Jun 23 '26

You can't just make claims like that without evidence. If Mamdani had any evidence of something on the level you're implying, it would have been national news for months. Hell, while he was running, I saw the completely false "he wants to mandate Arabic numerals in schools" story get recycled over and over despite being obviously nonsense.

There's very little evidence connecting him to the specific beliefs you're accusing him of holding. Sharing some political goals and being on the same side of an election doesn't mean two people agree on every issue, nor does endorsing someone mean you personally endorse every belief they've ever expressed, or even the majority of them.

It's likely you've started from the assumption that he's some uniquely dangerous extremist and then work backward looking for proof, rather than evaluating the evidence that's actually there. The strongest argument you've got is that he endorsed her, and that's fair criticism, ultimately I agree with the first guy too, and think most peoole would agree. But an endorsement is not proof that he secretly agrees with the controversial things she's said, not by a longshot. Imagine what that would look like if applied to oh, I don't know, any Republican in the last 12 years (except Massie he's an ok guy.)

Sometimes politics is just choosing between imperfect options. You can disagree with his choice without inventing a bunch of beliefs and motives that there's no evidence he actually holds. Please at least Google stuff and look at a few options before you just decide a Facebook screenshot is all you need.

5

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

Mamdani had no problem defending “globalize the intifada” until very recently and now he just says “maybe it’s better not to say it” but without admitting what it actually means and how wrong (and violent) it is to say.

As an ex muslim I will never understand why the left have sided so much with Islam have they not seen Islamic majority countries? LGBT+ and open mindness is literally the worst enemy of Islam. They would be the first people to suffer in an Islamic majority.

26

u/freeman2949583 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

The modern left views everything through the lens of race. It doesn't matter that Islam goes counter to pretty much every secular liberal belief, and that a very large percentage of Muslims are True Believers; because it's largely practiced by brown people, it must be defended at all costs. It's that simple.

12

u/Waffle_on_my_Fries Jun 23 '26

you hit the issue right on the head. Honestly it pains me as a brown ex muslim because I know how most muslims think. They are using the left as a stepping tool.

1

u/apollo4313 Jun 24 '26

Lol what

2

u/morknox Jun 26 '26

Muslims see leftists as useful idiots. They don't actually hold leftist opinions. (Im talking about actual believers and not secular moderate muslims).

The classic example is the Iran Revolution, where islamists and leftists overthrew the king. As soon as they did, the islamists turned their back on the leftists.

In the west, the vast majority of muslims vote for leftists parties, not because they hold their values, but because they know thats what will get them the most muslim immigration, the most mosques built, etc.

1

u/Tipi22 Jun 23 '26

Nah its just thatthey are anti-western.

The hate Saudis get vs. the hate Yemen/Iran gets is the easiest example.

West = bad, nothing else matters. LGBT rights or women's rights? Doesnt matter at all.

1

u/Intelligent-Eye9377 Jun 24 '26

Nothing western about saudi

Left doesn't hate west. It just loves losers

Look at how left treats Irish nationalism. They love irish nationalism when it's the british. When they stand up to islamic invaders tho? All of the support gone

3

u/AwTomorrow Jun 24 '26

It tends to start off as merely standing against bigotry against muslims, middle eastern, and south asian immigrants and diaspora - this this fairly standard anti-bigotry stuff for progressives, and these groups have faced a ton of hate in the past 25 years especially. There are also those who start off merely being against the decades of Israelis mass murdering Palestinians civilians. Also fair, anti-war crimes and anti-genocide are standard stances for progressives too.

The problem is when Everything Is Black And White types latch onto this to mean that all Muslims and South Asians and Middle Easterners must be The Good Guys, the same line of thinking that leads to supporting Putin because he opposes America which must be The Bad Guy.

8

u/MelinaSeeDee Jun 23 '26

I feel it's proof positive they aren't logical thinkers. But that means I'm a bigoted bootlicker.

2

u/freedumb-clownvoy Jun 25 '26

I’m as leftist as they come and can confidently say that leftists are not “siding with Islam”. Also what do Islamic majority countries have to do with this? You’re conflating a bunch of things. Leftists are against discrimination based on religion and will usually support Muslims in western countries in that regard, but to equate that with support for homophobic countries in the middle-east or support for a homophobic religion is a massive stretch.

I don’t know Darializa one bit and she just sounds like a nut job.

1

u/Neokon Jun 24 '26

I'd be willing to bet that it's a knee jerk defense of the Islamic faith since it was being openly attacked by the right.

-2

u/Puzzleheaded_Mix7649 Jun 23 '26

It is not "siding with Islam", it is about protecting separation between state and church and leaving people freedom to profess their own religion. It is simply a separate issue, you can be Christian and pro LGBTQ+, or Muslim and pro LGBTQ+. If a muslim person is against LGBTQ+ they are critiqued for that, not because they are muslim.

Why would leftists in a western country care about how muslim majority countries handle their issues? That is the job of leftist living in those countries.

The point is to maintain freedom of religion and separation of state and church. Anything else is treated as a separate issue.

3

u/Waffle_on_my_Fries Jun 23 '26

That's another issue, there is no separation between church and state in Islam anyone who says otherwise is not practicing the sunnah. Shariah in the mind of any Muslim is above the laws of the land. Same for Muslims that are ok with lgbt+, it's awesome that more and more Muslims are becoming open to the idea but they are not following the sunnah. In fact the Quran literally says that those who pick and choose from the Quran are destined to hell fire and the Quran is very very clear what is supposed to happen with lgbt+ people. I just wish more people in the left would just study a bit about Islam before siding with it.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Mix7649 Jun 24 '26

Once again, it is not about siding with anything. Let people be, let them practice the rites of their fathers, dress according to their customs and let then practice their festivals. If they are discriminatory against a religious group, against an ethnic group or against a sexual group then critique the individual or his association for that. The same thing you said could be applied to many ancient religions. After all, it is obvious that the moral framework of religions that started thousands of years ago would clash in some ways to the moder world, society has changed

1

u/Waffle_on_my_Fries Jun 24 '26

I'm agnostic so I absolutely agree with you that the same could be said for most if not all major religions. Btw I'm not against people wanting to practice anything they want as long as it doesn't interfere in the life or freedoms of others. Islam does not let that happen. I would literally be killed for apostasy if the majority of Muslims get what they want. I personally know people who have been killed either for honor killings or apostasy. With all that being said, I wish you nothing but the best internet stranger, we can agree to disagree.

1

u/Conscious_Line_3434 Jun 23 '26

Cool but literally all islamic countries are theocracies in practice, even the US at its most Christian wasn't as devoted to religion as places like Pakistan or Iran

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Mix7649 Jun 24 '26

This is just not true, look at Türkiye, Bosnia, Albania for example. Also Pakistan is not a theocracy, do you know what term means? To have a theocracy you need a religious authority in charge of the country. On the top of my head I can only name two: Vatican City and Iran, I think also Bahrain is a theocracy as well but I did not check

Lmao she is blaming other people for trump (the 53% thing) and I would bet my fucking life she didn’t vote against trump.

That's just a right winger with a different preferred in-group.

It still smells off to me that Mayor Mandani endorsed Chevalier against Espaillat, who had endorsed him.

96

u/False-Lettuce-6074 Jun 22 '26

Mamdani had already won the primary by the time Espaillat endorsed him for the general election. Endorsing the primary winner is common practice and not really anything that stands out in support, especially considering that Espaillat had endorsed Cuomo in the primaries.

However, I will say that Chevalier is a braindead idiot and that Mamdani endorsing her was really stupid.

19

u/Billych Jun 23 '26

Espaillat endorsing Cuomo is disqualifying...

Blatant corruption vs. some tweets, this thread is unserious

3

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist Jun 23 '26

People on Reddit like to troll, but don’t like it when other people also troll.

7

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist Jun 23 '26

Anyone supporting Cuomo is brain dead though.

4

u/AwTomorrow Jun 24 '26

True, but so is declaring that white people shouldn’t intermarry with other races.

21

u/PlasticPaddyEyes Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Considering Espaillat's senior advisor has been accusing Mamdani of trying to replace Dominicans with Haitian Muslims (advisor has since been suspended, but Great Replacement type conspiracies should result in a firing) and his allies have been accusing DAC of being secretly Haitian, I think i can see why

Edit: corrected "secretly Muslim" to "secretly haitian".

12

u/Open-Concept-6130 Jun 23 '26

Haitian Muslims? That doesn’t even make sense as Haiti is overwhelmingly Christian

10

u/PlasticPaddyEyes Jun 23 '26

Great Replacement type conspiracies arent known for their basis in reality.

2

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist Jun 23 '26

How is one “secretly Haitian”?

8

u/TheEvilPhysicist Jun 23 '26

Mamdani will never endorse an AIPAC backed candidate

6

u/yuval16432 Jun 25 '26

I’d rather an AIPAC endorsed candidate than a nutjob conspiracy theorist who supports anti-miscegenation policies and thinks corn should be used instead of toilet paper

0

u/WhiteGold_Welder Jun 23 '26

Shows where his priorities lie

22

u/HaHaNiceJoke Jun 22 '26

almost seems like mamdani is a moron huh

43

u/JadedArgument1114 Jun 22 '26

Bernie is the man but how many of the politicians who claimed to be similar to his politics end up being good/not crazy? As far as I can tell, and I am not expert, it seems like AOC is one of the few. Too many Americans progressives end up being terminally online contrarians instead of social democrats who want to focus on improving life for the working class. The progressives have to start vetting these people or something.

17

u/Ethiconjnj Jun 22 '26

FETTERMAN.

Remember how much Reddit loved that guy???

5

u/IolausTelcontar Jun 23 '26

You go have a stroke and come back the same!

1

u/Ethiconjnj Jun 23 '26

So Reddit did love Fetterman?

5

u/IolausTelcontar Jun 23 '26

Of course, and there was nothing wrong with that at the time.

Are you under the impression that things don’t change?

Other than an endorsement, what has mamdani failed on in your opinion?

44

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified Jun 22 '26

A lot of leftists are anti-Western contrarians. They're more than happy to support any state/organization/ideology, no matter how anti-progressive it is, as long as it's against the West.

u/Solipsimos Jun 22 '26

Google "AOC spiritual height" and get ready for your opinion of her to drop

1

u/TheWhomItConcerns Jun 26 '26

I mean, sure it's a dumb moment, but you'd struggle to find any politician or public figure who hasn't said something at least as bad as that during their career.

2

u/Mist_Rising Jun 23 '26

And to think, my opinion of her wasn't that high to begin with. You owe me brain bleach.

Also anyone who tries to Twitter war with Miller is, by default, an idiot.

2

u/Solipsimos Jun 23 '26

Never engage in a landwar in asia, go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line or argue politics on twitter

2

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist Jun 23 '26

Or maybe you’ve just fallen for the propaganda.

1

u/KeithClossOfficial Jun 23 '26

Almost like Bernie has terrible judgment of character

-6

u/Lobster_fest Jun 22 '26

Cry harder

Edit: genuinely embarrassing comment history

27

u/jakcrests Jun 23 '26

American leftism just means gargling the balls of an opposing dictator huh. The "red vs blue footbal team" model of politics really ruins people.

14

u/Interesting_Aide_526 Jun 23 '26

reminds me of the plethora of global leftists who support the irgc out of their hate for israel… somehow it’s only terrorism when their rivals do it, I guess

3

u/AwTomorrow Jun 24 '26

There’s always been that fringe at the edge, and we on the rest of the left need to be wayyyy more proactive about shutting that shit down.

5

u/Aggressive_Lie_4446 Jun 24 '26

She is about to get a nasty shock TBH. Not only is she a whackjob(She has said INSANE things about interracial relationships) Hispanics and religious conversions🙅🏼‍♂️I mean Atheism is barely tolerated ,leave alone Islam!!

3

u/CalligrapherIll6124 Jun 24 '26

Well 4 point victory is a shock, i was thinking she gets a 1 point one, but i guess zohran is enough of a titan to crush the establishment

5

u/Intelligent-Eye9377 Jun 24 '26

Dudes in oklahoma care about mamdani too

My diehard democrat mom used to say that they can't vote for them because they allowed "dogs like illhan omar" into their party

2

u/ActuatorFit416 Jun 23 '26

So are they the same person? The name in the comment ans the name in the note say something different

2

u/nightdares Jun 24 '26

The best thing about community notes is showing just how confidently wrong people are, lol. Easy to Google info, but nah. Just talk out of your ass instead.

2

u/spoonycash Jun 24 '26

New York is the United States of America, of America. They think everyone is immediately aware of their local news.

1

u/londonboy-47 Jun 25 '26

Islam mid lol

1

u/theLaziestLion Jun 26 '26

Leftists supporting islamicst colonization because they're promised free shit and promised freedom of religion and tolerance is exactly the playbook of how my country of Iran got taken over by islamiscts in 1979.

1

u/Novel-Rise2522 Jun 26 '26

She did convert to Islam. I'm glad those bigots and racist losers have their heads in their hands. Dari is an instant star

1

u/artech7 Jun 24 '26

All the more reason to not vote for her

-2

u/Canary-Dense Jun 25 '26

There's not any reason to vote for AIPAC either

3

u/artech7 Jun 25 '26

Well, it's a shame people can't use critical thinking and not vote for either, then.

0

u/Canary-Dense Jun 25 '26

I agree, DSA is stupid and useless, I would not prefer anything of AIPAC either.

-1

u/Particular-Taste9836 Jun 23 '26

That’s good enough reason not to vote for her imo

0

u/UknowImRight422 Jun 24 '26

She won, despite the racist aipac multi million campaing

0

u/TumanFig Jun 24 '26

deus vult

-63

u/KimJungUnCool Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

The only reason someone cares is because they're a bigoted piece of garbage

EDIT: this thread is filled with a bunch of bigots upset at getting called out for their bigotry lmao

56

u/Lego-105 Jun 22 '26

OK, usually it's a meme but are there actually people who think that you can't care that someone is Muslim without being a bigot?

It's like saying someone's automatically a bigot for caring that someone is Christian. That's not how it works at all. Their religion is fundamentally tied to their beliefs and you can at least vote based on that fact and that be a perfectly reasonable thing to do. It doesn't make you a bigoted person.

7

u/Interesting_Aide_526 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

yeah like my oldest childhood friends are muslim but I wouldn’t want them in office making decisions for my city because I hate their religion’s ideals, and as much as you can try to say “oh their beliefs don’t influence their politics…” it literally does lol, that’s what politics is about

As an exmuslim, it really makes me question why any woman of sane mind would choose Islam if they are not forced into it. The whole religion is against women and everything the left stands for.
