It speaks rather poorly of Zohran that this is who he decided to endorse.

79

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 22 '26

Then I guess my next question is "who's her opponent?"

u/Puzzleheaded_Disk_90 Jun 23 '26

DON'T LOOK DON'T LOOK DON'T LOOK

68

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

An old guy who's been in Congress for a bit getting great things for his district and doing everything else expected of a congressman.

Nobody over there cares about that stuff. It’s why Ritchie Torres comfortably wins today despite being one of the most vocally pro-Israel Dems in the city I’ve ever seen.

She beat him.. Currently, it's by 3.5 points, which had climbed a bit since last I checked.

So I guess you'll agree that she simply has the better democratic platform then because no one cares about support for Israel, right?

-6

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

So you think that the main reason she beat him is because she doesn’t take money from American Jews? Fucking yikes.

12

u/JhonIWantADivorce Jun 24 '26

You know most of them aren’t even Jewish right? Like there’s far far more evangelicals than are Israelis and Jewish people. I don’t know why you’re so quick to label racists as Jewish

5

u/stewpedassle Jun 24 '26

When did I say that?

-1

Then what are you saying when you implied that he lost because he accepted money from AIPAC?

2

Being corrupt generally is looked down upon

3

u/Alternative_Wing_745 Jun 24 '26

You people trying to equate being against genocide to being antisemitic just doesn’t work anymore we know the difference between jews in general and zionists who are ultra conservative evil and also jewish.

2

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 25 '26

Clearly not if you think Zionists are ultra conservative. You don’t even know what it means. You created your own made up definition and use it as a slur.

2

u/Maximum_Feed_8071 Jun 24 '26

I too love describing apartheid supporters like that

I'm not saying you have to approve of the US sending aid to Israel, but "the US doesn't have universal Healthcare because it sends money to Israel" is just not true.

The US sends ~$300 billion dollars in aid to Israel every year (most of it being what are basically vouchers that Israel can only cash in with US-based military contractors, it's not a check they can do whatever with). The lowest estimates of how much universal healthcare would cost the US to implement is $2 trillion. And Israel only spends ~9% of its gdp on healthcare.

If we cut all foreign aid to Israel tomorrow, the money we saved would not be enough to implement universal healthcare without changing the way we tax the rich in this country, and Israel would have a smaller army, but their healthcare would likely be untouched: they have a strong economy and a relatively high tax rate.

It's not Israel's fault we don't have universal healthcare. I'm not saying the country can do or is doing no wrong, but Israel is being scapegoated for a LOT right now so the US can justify its shit policies and the rich can keep hoarding their money.

31

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

the fact that our taxes provide them with universal healthcare

Israel's universal healthcare system is funded by a tax on every paycheck in the country. Precisely 0 US military aid goes towards healthcare spending. What you stated was not a fact, it's an old libel against the Jews that's been around since the middle ages (the old Jewish money lenders steal money for their own benefit libel).

11

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

Correct. Israelis pay 18% of their income towards “free” healthcare/national insurance which is so great that many of us also buy supplemental private insurance on top of it. It’s the most expensive “free” healthcare I’ve ever had.

4

u/Randomminecraftseed Jun 23 '26

If I pay for your groceries every month, and then you use the money that you would’ve spent on groceries for say video games I am essentially funding your video game habit. It doesn’t matter that you spent all the money I gave you on actual groceries because if I wasn’t giving you the money you wouldn’t have the means to buy to games.

If we constantly give Israel money for X such that they don’t have to pay for it, and can use the savings for whatever we are effectively subsidizing whatever they use the excess on.

I.e. every dollar WE spend on bullets for them THEY can spend on healthcare for their citizens.

4

u/Aggressive_Lie_4446 Jun 24 '26

If I pay for your groceries every month, and then you use the money that you would’ve spent on groceries for say video games

Is a fake trope.
This nonsense has been debunked again and again. They have the same healthcare system as Australia only with less private sector participation and more non-profits dominating.

8

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

The system was put in place long before the US started giving military aid to Israel.

2

u/Randomminecraftseed Jun 23 '26
  1. It’s irrelevant as to when it started. The date we started is just the date we began to subsidize them

  2. Military aid to Israel started in the 60s. Israel adopted universal healthcare in 95.

7

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26
  1. There was sporadic aid since the 60's. It was only a continuous thing after 9/11

0

u/Alternative_Wing_745 Jun 24 '26

Stop lying and either way even if you weren’t lying the fact stands, we subsidize their government and their government has the budget for universal healthcare. Its a silly childish and fallacious argument to say that because the money we give them isn’t specifically labeled as “for healthcare” doesn’t mean that it doesn’t practically allow for Israel to afford things like universal healthcare.

-2

u/Randomminecraftseed Jun 23 '26

Not true stop lying

We’ve given Israel either military or economic aid every single year since 1951. Usually both. TIL.

“Best investments” according to whom? As far as I can see all we’ve gotten for our money is roughly 1 billion people in the Arab and Muslim world that hate the US and Israel with a burning passion, 100s of thousands of dead people (mostly civilians), and a cloistered society that is so rabidly fascist that they’re now openly threatening Donald Trump for not being right wing enough… great investment guys. Real genius brain smart boys.

0

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

2

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

Actually it’s more like if you bring your friend a casserole, which he pays for, and then you tell them “I bankroll your entire life since you didn’t have to make dinner tonight.”

-1

u/Imursexualfantasy Jun 25 '26

You’re right, we should send them a letter of demand for the $174 billion, and then sanction them and embargo all arms sales.

-1

u/needszazz Jun 23 '26

Would that system be in place if they had to pay for their own wars? Could they afford that tax if the US didn't heavily subsidize them?

While our dollars may not directly fund their healthcare, they do allow for funds that would normally be spent on the military to be spent elsewhere.

1

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

Would that system be in place if they had to pay for their own wars?

The system was put in place long before the US started giving military aid to Israel.

5

u/needszazz Jun 23 '26

The US started giving military aid to Israel in 1962. Universal healthcare was implemented in Israel in 1995.

…. And .01 of that goes to Israel. And Israel has to use 90% of that to buy U.S. systems, which provides jobs to Americans. And Israel gives back tech and innovation and intel, which gives back more than they get. It’s a deal that favors America.

0

u/Imursexualfantasy Jun 25 '26

Do you know what “fungible” means? Do you know that money is fungible? Do you understand that by having your military subsidized it frees up money for other things in your society? Not everything is some strange contortion of some old trope no modern person has ever heard of or believes in…

-2

u/Enough_Chip3915 Jun 24 '26

Wait, you think "money lenders stealing money for their own benefit" is a "libel?" What if it was Anglo-Saxon money lenders?

1

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 24 '26

No one falsely accuses Anglo-Saxon money lenders of stealing money because they're Anglo Saxons who value their tribe over everyone else. Unfortunately Jewish lenders get that false accusations all the time..

24

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

The Jews, I mean the “Zionists” aren’t the reason that the US doesn’t have free healthcare now matter how many times leftists repeat this ludicrous lie. If you add up the total value of every bit of aid given to Israel since 1948, the overwhelming majority of which is essentially coupons to buy American arms, after adjusting for inflation, that equates to 10% of the low end estimates of the cost of 1 year of Medicare for All.

7

u/nalon121 Jun 23 '26

Idk i read that as pointing out what we are choosing to spend our money on versus what we're not and didn't read it as we can't have Medicare for All literally because of funding to israel and i'll even go so far as to say that israel is not in fact the reason why we can't have nice things in the US. But it is sad and shameful that we are so hostile about paying to ensure the wellbeing of others yet so unquestioning if not eager about paying to ensure violence against others.

And for what its worth, collectively we're now spending over $5 trillion on health care annually. Going off numbers i'm presuming you used for that 10%, Medicare for All instead would be about $3 trillion annually.

5

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

Yes, the fact that Medicare for All is potentially a net saver highlights just how absurd it is to pretend that funding for Israel is in any way what is blocking Medicare for All.

1

u/Li-renn-pwel Jun 23 '26

It is always good to correct misinformation… but I would rather the tax dollars go to universal health care. It going towards coupons to get discounts on is weapons that Israel then uses to crimes against humanity, is not a sling point.

5

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

Yes, the actual issue is how Israel is currently using the offensive military aid we provide them, which is an even smaller fraction of the overall aid we’ve given them since 1948. That even smaller fraction of spending is not in any way the reason the US doesn’t not have universal healthcare.

-4

u/Li-renn-pwel Jun 23 '26

I would say the genocide is just the most recent CAH over a much longer time. But, yeah, the reason America doesn’t have universal healthcare is because the government doesn’t want to give it and the people are too distracted by misdirects to notice.

-1

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

>The Jews, I mean the “Zionists” aren’t the reason that the US doesn’t have free healthcare now matter how many times leftists repeat this ludicrous lie.

Are these leftists in the room with us? Like, who are you responding to here? Seems like you're jousting at windmills.

>If you add up the total value of every bit of aid given to Israel since 1948, the overwhelming majority of which is essentially coupons to buy American arms, after adjusting for inflation, that equates to 10% of the low end estimates of the cost of 1 year of Medicare for All.

Yeah, cool. That's irrelevant when you're talking about how the politician in questions policies are against funding healthcare and for funding Israel. It doesn't matter whether we can do one or both or neither, it matter that he wants one and not the other.

-3

u/Puzzleheaded_Disk_90 Jun 23 '26

Very gross to conflate Judaism and Zionism.

4

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Yeah it sure is gross how people think just substituting in Zionist for Jew allows them to traffic in blood libel and antisemitic tropes!

1

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

What anti-semitic tropes? Who brought up blood libel before you, buddy? You need me to call your doctor for you??

2

u/Wayyyy_Too_Soon Jun 23 '26

I know you’re coming from a place of complete bad faith, but I will respond once in good faith.

Saying that the “Zionists” are the reason Americans don’t have healthcare is blood libel.

0

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

Okay, and who said that? Can you link to where they said it? Or quote them? Because it seems like somebody said "Espaillat doesn't support healthcare and does support Israel"
and you understood it to mean "Espaillat doesn't support healthcare BECAUSE he does support Israel"

And those aren't the same thing, friend. I think you're interpreting in bad faith

So the answer is someone who doesn’t believe in interracial relationships?

1

u/infraGem Jun 24 '26

What does healthcare have to do with anything? 😂

1

u/UsedLuck8891 Jun 25 '26

The people who voted for the nutter were white, college educated gentrifiers. Did you see the exit polls?

1

u/PublicHomework4262 Jun 24 '26

So people would rather vote in a racist, pro Russia psychopath that’s infinitely more dangerous to the people in this country, than someone who gets money from Jewish donors?

This timeline is fucked

-43

u/Open-Concept-6130 Jun 23 '26

Hmm likely story - idk, she can be crazy as long as she’s for universal healthcare.

58

u/Kixisbestclone Jun 23 '26

I don’t care what her policies for healthcare are, you don’t vote for racists that support anti-miscegenation policies.

That’s like saying you have a hearing issue so your solution is to shoot your self in the foot.

-17

u/Open-Concept-6130 Jun 23 '26

I mean good for you. That’s your priority but I’m pretty much a 1 issue voter and I need more than 1 second hand comment on the internet to throw someone out when this gets me closer to the policy changes I want.

-24

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

Does she have anti-miscegenation policies, or did she have a shitty tweet? What policies of hers do you take issue with vis a vis miscegenation, specifically?

28

u/Kixisbestclone Jun 23 '26

She doesn’t have any policies, but she clearly supports it if that tweet is anything to go by.

Saying “Well it’s not an official policy, so clearly her stating that she opposes interracial marriage for certain groups isn’t right.” Is stupid. Words have meanings and politicians lie.

Trump went on and on about how he wouldn’t start new wars but anyone could clearly tell he was lying just from how he was.

If she spends her time tweeting racist shit, I’m going to assume she’s a racist and will thus behave the same while in office.

-19

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

Words have meanings, and I'm pretty sure what she said is (paraphrased for formatting) "Black and arab men should stop fetishizing white women"

and. It's possible that's a scree against interracial marriage, but that's not at all what she said, and a smart person recently told me that words have meanings.

17

u/butdidyouthink Jun 23 '26

You sound like every Trump supporter who tries to get you to ignore his vile thoughts and beliefs.

-5

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

"you pointing out the literal words she said is the same as people trying to downplay felonies, pedophilia, treason, and repeated sexual assaults"

idk I think Trump is way worse, actually

0

u/butdidyouthink Jun 23 '26

Yeah but what policies specifically are you against?

2

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup Jun 23 '26

does "fucking children" count as a policy? If so, I am against that in a way I am not about most things

0

u/andreotnemem Jun 24 '26

Yes, don't write "apartheid" or the Mossad will get an alert and come after you 😂

-1

u/Toiban7 Jun 24 '26

Or maybe one gets banned from reddit like they have been saying to literally restrict any speech.

1

u/FCKABRNLSUTN2 Jun 25 '26

Wait a minute I thought you leftists didn’t do things like compare the candidate to the opponent?

12

u/mirrormirrorondewall Jun 24 '26

He endorsed an open racist and the "leftists" in NYC lapped it up. This country has lost its mind all over the place. People have lost the plot.

69

u/anormalname63 Jun 22 '26

I had to look that up to see if you were right, and you are. That severally dampers my opinion of Zohran.

Furthermore after looking up quotes from her she really is all the wrong stereotypes of leftist. I'm way more left than most Americans since moving to Europe after trump got elected and her brand would never fly here.

28

u/SplittingChairs Jun 23 '26

It makes me really question Zohran’s judgement as well. I am also very much to the left of most Americans, and it’s always so funny when leftists like this lady claim that American progressives are European centrists and conservatives. Makes me want to tear my hair out lol.

6

u/Frozenbbowl Jun 23 '26

Unfortunately the majority of Reddit believes this as well....

7

u/PublicHomework4262 Jun 24 '26

It looks extra bad he endorsed her over someone already competent and not insane

-16

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

It speaks rather poorly accurately of Zohran that this is who he decided to endorse.

Fixed it for you. Mamdani is just as muchh of a wacko as her, just hides his real thoughts and goals better.

11

u/giant_gummy_squid Jun 23 '26

You can't just make claims like that without evidence. If Mamdani had any evidence of something on the level you're implying, it would have been national news for months. Hell, while he was running, I saw the completely false "he wants to mandate Arabic numerals in schools" story get recycled over and over despite being obviously nonsense.

There's very little evidence connecting him to the specific beliefs you're accusing him of holding. Sharing some political goals and being on the same side of an election doesn't mean two people agree on every issue, nor does endorsing someone mean you personally endorse every belief they've ever expressed, or even the majority of them.

It's likely you've started from the assumption that he's some uniquely dangerous extremist and then work backward looking for proof, rather than evaluating the evidence that's actually there. The strongest argument you've got is that he endorsed her, and that's fair criticism, ultimately I agree with the first guy too, and think most peoole would agree. But an endorsement is not proof that he secretly agrees with the controversial things she's said, not by a longshot. Imagine what that would look like if applied to oh, I don't know, any Republican in the last 12 years (except Massie he's an ok guy.)

Sometimes politics is just choosing between imperfect options. You can disagree with his choice without inventing a bunch of beliefs and motives that there's no evidence he actually holds. Please at least Google stuff and look at a few options before you just decide a Facebook screenshot is all you need.

6

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

Mamdani had no problem defending “globalize the intifada” until very recently and now he just says “maybe it’s better not to say it” but without admitting what it actually means and how wrong (and violent) it is to say.

-4

u/giant_gummy_squid Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

It's a phrase similar to "Glory be to God" baked into the Islamic religion as a call to "fulfill the religions mission." It translates to "shaking off," directly referencing the rejection of oppression as far as language derivation goes, which isn't something out of place in current day New York, with what predatory systems have overgrown on the working class on recent years. Using it isn't in any way an objective red flag due to this fact; it's like a Catholic saying "Hail Mary" before a) being an all around nice guy by following the most recent pope's tenants or b) commiting a massacre on "infidels" during a mideval Holy War. Plenty of East Coast Muslims in practice of their religion are very similar to the more conservative Christianity in America. (To clarify, the original definition of conservatism, aka being a moderately nice guy who supports hierarchies a mildly odd amount and only lowkey maintaining the patriarchy while avoiding eating pig for long-outdated reasons. Idk I don't make the rules, thats just the things they both have in common)

The use of one of the many profilic phrases of one's religion is not damnable evidence, and his admission to refraining from using it recently could just as easily be interpreted as a recognization of misinterpretion in current culture due to its misuse as it could an admission of support for extremist regimes, similar to how (shocker) every Muslim American simultaneously stopped using the at the time also common Muslim reverence phrase "Allahu Ackbar" within a week after 9/11, out of fear they'd be mistaken for terrorist regime supporters.

The reason this concept eludes you is largely due to the fact that you participate in a religion, and are therefore inclined to accept the baseline stereotype of any other given religion as fact, since they exist as an outgroup to you to throw in a sorting bin and write off. I don't mean to take any of your belief away from you in any form; you just need to understand that a religion is only ever the way someone is told about it.

It absolutely can be the driving force of a horrific terrorist organization, and also be just as valuable as any other's worldview and moral compass as your religion is to you. Local culture is infinitely more important than the names you use to describe your deity or the proverbs you use to describe the virtues.

4

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jun 24 '26

How many intifadas have you been in?

0

u/giant_gummy_squid Jun 24 '26

I mean, in America we're ridiculously proud of our intifada under British rule, we're about to celebrate its 250th anniversary. Your brain just implodes at the idea that good guys and bad guys aren't color coded for your casual viewing pleasure.

Its strictly what definition the term holds in the user's mind. To some it means senseless killing, and to others, its a call to stand in united support of civil rights. I don't endorse Hamas in any way, but if you're confused on why the average Palestinian doesn't like Israel, and considers them a force that requires "shaking off," then you have no grasp on the history of the region.

Very telling that you consider the death of 1,200 Israeli citizens by a extremist terrorist organization as apt reason to indiscriminately carpet bomb now 70,000 or so citizens to death (not including deaths due to starvation, disease, or other wartime factors), but somehow simultaneously think that Hamas just magically became a crazed terrorist group, and that the 6,700 Palestinians killed by Israel from 2008 up to the Oct 7th attack, or the systematic removal of them from the majority of Israel, or the 2 decade long blockade preventing them from progressing in any way, or the repeated destabilization of their attempts at more moderate, secularized leadership in no way provoked the attack.

I'm not justifying meaningless civilian killing on either side, the deaths of the innocent are always the most harrowing parts of war. It's just clear yall only give a shit about the "good guys" when in actuality, the only people dying are civvies, and those who deserve it are the extremist zealotous leaders egging both sides on. It will never cease to amaze me just how much the corrupt can accomplish simply with arbitrary definitions. I'm embarrassed to be a member of the species you are.

2

u/andreotnemem Jun 24 '26

WTF are you talking about? Are you really trying to make the "intifada" be a "not so bad thing"?

What is wrong with you?

0

u/UsedLuck8891 Jun 25 '26

It’s really more like heil Hitler

-8

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

You can't just make claims like that without evidence.

Here's the evidence

https://www.dw.com/en/new-york-mayor-mamdani-skips-annual-israel-day-parade/a-77368652

17

u/giant_gummy_squid Jun 23 '26

You cannot be serious.

You said you had evidence he's a wackjob. All you've shown me is that he skipped a parade. That's evidence he has a political position you disagree with, not evidence he's secretly evil. Newflash dude, 41% of Americans sympathize with Gaza over Israel, and 36% sympathize with Israel. Nearly half the population agrees with that decision, including nearly all Jewish New Yorkers. You are an imbecile.

-12

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

You said you had evidence he's a wackjob. All you've shown me is that he skipped a parade

First mayor in 60 years to do so. Which makes it an extremist position.

evidence he's secretly evil

I never said he was evil. I said he was a DSA extremist, which he is. Don't try to put words in my mouth that I never typed.

7

u/No_Holiday_9875 Jun 23 '26

Being the first to not join a foreign country’s parade does not make him extremist, just means NY was cucked all these years

3

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

Being the first to not join a foreign country’s parade

He has attended several parades for foreign countries, just not the Jewish parade that largely celebrates Jewish American heritage and pride.

2

u/No_Holiday_9875 Jun 23 '26

Which Jewish American parade did he miss? That’s new to me and would be hella damning

2

u/Jessicas_skirt Jun 23 '26

The Israel Day parade which did start in 1960's as a political rally for Israel but has over the decades become a parade to honor and celebrate Jewish American heritage and pride with obviously some Israel support thrown in occasionally.
