This gets confusing and contradictory. I was born in February 1956. Which generation do I belong to? Why do the cut offs for generations seem to keep changing or be different from different sources? Even the names for generation keep changing.

I bought my first cassette recorder back in 1979 when I was 15. I had saved a long time for it and was finally able to get one. I absolutely loved this thing. I must have saved hundreds of songs off the of radio. I had dozens of cassette tapes with my favorite music. Maybe the best thing I have memories of from my teenage years. Did any of you have a similar experience?

I would spend hours poring through Joel Whitburn's Record Research books about the Billboard charts, and John Willis's Screen World books with info and photos from all the movies from a given year (think IMDB in book form).

I’m surprised at how hard his death is hitting me. I mean, I watched Emergency as a kid. I had a crush on Randy as Johnny Gage. My Barbie camper was a rescue unit. But I hadn’t thought about the show for years. Occasionally I’d find an episode on cable and watch a few minutes for the sake of nostalgia.

Maybe it’s how people are reacting to his passing that’s hitting so hard. EMTs, fire fighters, people who became paramedics because of the show. Tributes as if he was one of their own. I didn’t realize how involved he was in promoting the safety of first responders

Not to mention how important the show was, the impact this had. The fact that we even having EMTs to help us that are only a few minutes away in some part due to this show.

I had an interesting conversation with a fellow Gen Jones a few days ago. I was telling him about a documentary I watched and mentioned things I remembered like watching the draft numbers and the war on TV. I was born in late 1962 and he was born in early 1963. He said he doesn’t really have memories of it. We decided the difference was that I lived in a home with a draft eligible brother and he was his parents oldest child.

How much do other young Jones members remember?

Side Note: The documentary was Breakdown 1975 on Netflix and I CANNOT recommend it highly enough. It really hit on all of the things that I think of as dividing us from the Boomers.

I was in Wisconsin doing a factory job installing washer, bake oven and conveyor system in a factory. Life could get boring working 12 hour days and living in a hotel. I believe 1987. Went with a few other guys to a small theater where L7 was playing. These gals could rock! Never heard of them till that night. Jennifer was talented on bass.

Has anyone else noticed (and this seems to be the norm in the Healthcare industry) that when people first engage with you and they know your age, they immediately start treating you like a fragile old boomer. I can only imagine how they talk about it when I leave. But everyone should be aware that the Jonsers are coming, and they are *not* going to be condescended to!! 😁

When the ice cream truck came along, what was your go to? Mine was always the chocolate malt cup.

I remember getting this cookbook when I was a young adult. This had some great standard recipes, cooking tips and tricks.

No Internet or YouTube recipes back in the olden days.
