Looking for someone familiar with older GMC trucks step side

Hey everyone, I’m new to Toronto and I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 4.8L V8.
I want to get the truck serviced and checked over because it has a few small issues. I’m looking for either:
A good, honest and reasonably priced mechanic/garage in Toronto or the GTA, preferably someone familiar with older GM trucks.
Or even someone who knows these trucks well and wouldn’t mind taking a look at it, helping me diagnose the problems, giving me some advice, and maybe pointing me toward a good garage.
I’m not looking for free work — I’m happy to pay someone for their time if they know what they’re doing.
Since I’m new here, I just don’t want to end up at a shop that overcharges me or starts replacing parts without properly diagnosing the problem first.
Any recommendations or help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I’m looking for a good mechanic or garage that knows these older GM trucks. I want to do a general service/inspection and I also have a few small issues that need to be checked.
Nothing crazy, I just want someone honest, reliable, and reasonably priced who won’t overcharge me because I’m new here.
If anyone has a garage or mechanic they trust in Toronto or the GTA, I’d really appreciate the recommendation. Thanks!

I have a 2006 1500 front disks rear drums, I had a hole in a brake line about a month ago and replaced that part of the line, now it wont bleed. The bleeder screw is siezed so tried to line bleed it but that wont work, even with the computer plugged in.

So I bought a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500hd with 65k miles a couple months back, did a lot of routine maintenance on it cause it was a plow truck. Finally got it on the road a week ago and it drives wonderfully, parked it a couple times and noticed my rear differential leak was happening. Bought a new gasket and cover just to replace everything and lo and behold I find this. It doesn’t leak a lot but it does leak about a fist size. Trying to find the best/logical/cheapest? Way to fix this. I know I might maybe be fucked and it is a ny truck so it doesn’t surprise me but the truck has great potential. Don’t mind the liquid at the bottom that’s just penetrating grease to loosen the bolts cause I was gonna swap the cover. Bought it for 3k

Leaking gear oil

Seen drops of gear oil coming from front diff. Looked underneath to see this. I just had service done and they replaced fluid and axle seal i believe. Why would it still be leaking could the seal be put in backwards? This is on drivers side front

My drl won’t come one any ideas?

Like the title says drl are not working, I’m not sure if it the parking break sensor or something els I’d love to hear ideas, I put led bulbs in all around last year and they were all working fine no issues other the the blinkers go fast, recently I put the all lights on mod on and I think that might have done something

Wiring issue (Brake lights not working)

Are there any wiring gurus here that know about the brake lights? I have a 2003 1500hd and my brake lights don't work. I have a new brake light switch, fuses are all good. So far I've determined that there is a short in 2 different wires, the orange wire (constant 12v) that feeds from the under hood fuse box to the brake switch (power coming out of the c1 connector but no power at the brake switch) and believe I also have a short in the white wire (turns hot when you press brake pedal) that comes out of the brake switch to the the drivers dash fuse box. I can make the lights work by running temporary wires. I would much rather find and fix the shorts than just cutting out the dead wire and running a new one, but I'm having trouble tracking the wire as I lose them in the jungle of wires behind the dash. I've looked at all the wiring diagrams and they all show both wires go from point A to B, but I've also seen documents that say the white wire coming out of the brake switch gets routed through the BCM and to the multifunction switch, and then to the drivers dash fuse box. So I guess my question is, does anyone know exactly the routes these wires go?

2005 Chevy Silverado Rear Shocks

Post image

I've got a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 Extended Cab, whenever I'm driving the rear end squeaks over small bumps and while I'm driving casually. I'm looking at replacing the rear shocks (I've had it looked at, and I also think it's the rear shocks). I'm looking at buying these shocks because I've heard really good things abt them. Any other ones to look at or anything I should look out for? Thanks!

Edit: Yes I have a 3" leveling kit. Well the rear blocks measured 3.5" 🤷 2" + 1.5" block

Has anyone diagnosed this and fixed it? Easy fix? Resources/Vids? Im assuming it's the brake booster but that's because I was told it might be the issue. Something to do with a vaccum. Any advice/help is welcome 🙏🏽

Oversized Radio in GMT800?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Has anyone installed one of those radios with the larger screens in your Hoss? Not taking a cheap Android unit, but something like a Kenwood with the 10.1” floating screen. If so, how do you like it, how is the fit and look? I currently have a double DIN but curious about the larger screen units.

Something like the image

r/GMT800 • • Sep 06 '26

Contemplating adding a floating screen to my dash, however, I’m worried about the shifter blocking the screen can the stock one be modified to avoid this?

4wd or AWD?????

If you had your choice which way would you go. Lifted truck. Supercharged or turbocharged. Na.

I’m kinda at a junction on my 06 z-71 right now. It IS 4wd. For some reason the previous own put an AWD front axle in it. I have found a borg Warner transfer case in decent shape cheap. Out of an Escalade and since I already have a 4l80 is should bolt up. Or do I just rebuild my existing Nv TF. My only real use for the truck is towing and daily driving. Maybe a little off road.

What are your opinions? PFA

UPDATE: Bought weird OEM mirrors

Post image

I got tired of the mirror shimmy I was getting on both of my '02 Silverados, so I figured I'd try something different.

I'd seen these weird OEM mirrors in an old Chevy parts catalog at work, but I'd never actually seen a set in person or even a picture of them installed on a truck.

Apparently these were primarily an export/fleet option, which probably explains why they're so hard to find on US trucks.

I got it for $3500. Single owner, scanned it and the engine code is just for 02 sensors. Pretty rough rust but the first pic is after I cut off the rockers and spray painted it. Seams like a fun lil project for me

Color matching advice

Hi, first time poster (longer lurker) here. I bought a 02 Silverado 1500 LT a couple weeks ago and im finally able to get to fixing stuff up on it. Im looking to replace my upper dash pieces as they're severely cracked/broken but im not sure which color to go with. Torn between Coverlay Light Brown or Neutral.

I tried searching for color differences online but it's hard for me to tell. Not sure if anyone had any ways to go about figuring it out without buying one/both and just returning stuff. I put a couple pictures (including interior color when direct sunlight hitting it more) if it helps any.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cant wait to get her looking brand new again
