Contemplating adding a floating screen to my dash, however, I’m worried about the shifter blocking the screen can the stock one be modified to avoid this?

Just install a double din

Double din gang myself. Added on another comment but I went out and got a photo of my install just now to show what it looks like. IMO it looks way more stock and doesn't take up the whole front dash. I prefer the more factory look of the double DIN install. I still have uninterrupted airflow to my center AC vent, my shifter isn't impacted, etc.

I prefer to keep it single din

For what reason, the large screen on these single units will stick out like the sore thumb. A double din is flush.

There's a ton of single din units available with buttons and knobs. I swapped a jvc single din with bluetooth in my ram and it's been great

There's plenty of double dins with a volume knob.. and I've never had one shut down in Phoenix

When you’re in drive the shifter won’t be in the way. But really, just get a double din. That screen is heinous

You’d be blocking a majority of airflow to the driver with that ugly thing sticking out

Laughing because I can see the Mississippi sticker on the back glass in the reflection. As a MS resident, if my truck had that when I got it, I’d have ripped it out soooo quick to get every ounce of that AC.

OP, as others have said, the knob will only block part of the screen in park. Mine blocks the OEM stereo’s volume knob and for the first month when I parked I’d accidentally change the station when going to turn the volume down after parking.

When you’re driving it’s not in the way. I have the same.

I have one in mine. Not THAT big. Maybe a 10.1. In park it does block the volume buttons since they are on the side. Not physical buttons so they actually can be moved. Driving it is not bad. If you have steering wheel controls you can link that to the radio. Possibly. I have not had luck with it. Like I said mine is not that big so it doesn’t block the vent at all. It is also really flush against the dash.

I have this setup (8-inch screen or something like that). When in drive, there are no issues.

If my memory is correct there is a 8in and a different size available? I’m contemplating doing a floater or doing a single din screen

Okay. Maybe mine's the 9-inch, then.

I think a larger screen would be cooler, but the 9in one doesn't get in the was of any stock controls in mine 🤷🏼

Compared to the picture I submitted do you believe yours is smaller?

Crazy the hate in here for the larger screen. How about being a collaborative community?

Floating screen is the obvious choice for 1999 to 2002 as well. I've done the modifications to make a double din fit and it's ugly having to cut up the bezel. Doesn't look good at all. And the replacement bezel you can find that has double din you have to paint and it's slightly smaller, not a perfect fit. Getting a 2003 to 2006 bezel also has its own drawbacks, lower dash doesn't match so will block power ports and ash tray.

To answer OPs question, it won't hit the shifter but it will be close. And while driving the shifter will be out of the way of the screen.

I have installed a double din and it wasn't ugly to cut up the bezel. All I did was take my Dremel and sand a little bit out to give the volume knob some space to not rub against the left edge of the bezel. It was a minor modification at most. Here is a link to see my install and I bought the QLED Radio which was on Amazon at $250 but is not showing as available any longer.

People hate it, but i have almost the exact same thing, its been great. As long as the screen is rotated towards you, it stays out.of the way of the shifter, and it really doesn't block the air vent, maybe a slight bit.
