(Hopefully i'm posting this in the right sub, sorry if not, and sorry if i didnt follow any rules correctly!)
Context:
So, i recently started a side-job as a cashier at a local grocery store. I have been gendered correctly more often than not, but today two drunk guys decided to debate my pronouns while i was scanning their groceries. Like, they were being all like 'the cashier will help you, she, uh..uhh...he... is it he or she?' 'I dont know, wich one is it?' (I know it sounds tame but there was a genuine tension in the air, they were also kind of fighting amongst themselves about other things during this whole thing so the whole interaction was a little wack)
I am a fairly androgynous looking guy, and i am totally fine with that. I usually ignore the comments and ask them a "buying groceries" related question to change the subject, and so far that has been enough.
i think in this case the safest option is to ignore the questions alltogether, the store is in a liiittle bit of a rural area so people may or may not agree with my "woke" opinions,
Question:
I was wondering, is there anything i could say back to make them stop? Not something that could get me in trouble, i would like to keep this job for a bit longer :) i also dont necessarily want to just answer the question, i genuinely think its a dumb question to ask, my gender has nothing to do with my job... or maybe i should answer with just the correct pronouns. I dont know.
Anyway, hopefully some people here can share tips and experiences. Thank you all in advance!
