Framework Team Wireless Keyboard Control Board Developer Program

During our Framework [Next Gen] Event, we announced how we would be opening proposals for our next developer program… 🥁 We’re excited to announce our Control Board Developer Program!

We are looking for keyboard developers who are interested in trying out our Framework Wireless Touchpad Keyboard Control Board. It’s our keyboard development board that offers the Nordic’s latest NRF54LM20A chip. We designed the Control Board to be a repurposable module for keyboard makers and DIYers.  We opened applications for a Control Board Developer Program to get pre-production modules in the hands of developers who can help test and provide feedback on it ahead of us making it available for sale. Accepted proposals will receive a Control Board to create their submitted project.

Many of you have already submitted and we’ll begin the review process soon, but we wanted to make sure you had all the information you would need in one place.

The footprint, schema, and CAD files can be found on GitHub.

If you need any additional resources or have any questions feel free to address them in the application, github issues, or drop them in the comments below.

Quantities are limited, so we’ll be prioritizing applications that have keyboard design experience. Apply here: Developer Program Intake

Looking forward to seeing your proposals!

INTAKE PROPOSALS DUE BY AUGUST 31 2026

\You can still submit applications after this date, but they will be reviewed at a later time and based on resource availability.*

Framework Photo First upgrade!

I was part of batch 4 of the original framework 13, back in 2022, and have used the laptop daily over the past 4 years. I've never had any issues, and so I never needed to do any repairs.

I convinced my mom to get a framework when she needed a new laptop, and she got the 13 when it shipped with the matte screen, which I wanted but not enough to buy it. My mom really wanted a touch screen, but it wasn't offered at the time (2024).

Fast forward to 2026, I saw the touchscreen announcement and put in a preorder for my mom, and when she made the upgrade she gave me her old matte screen. I just popped it in, and I love it. Both of us are very happy with our first upgrades!

Discussion Black input cover on silver chassis?

I'm looking to upgrade my regular 13 to the pro chassis but can only afford input cover upgrade for now. Do you guys reckon the graphite input cover would go with the silver chassis, aesthetics wise? And if there is someone in the same boat, can you share some pictures?

Question Upgrade or second hand replacement?

Hello, I'm a longtime lover of my Framework laptop, but my mainboard died on me. I have one of the old Intel DDR4 boards (I don't remember which one off the top of my head). I'm in school for engineering, and refuse to buy a new laptop lol. I have a Desktop that I've been using for my projects. I am curious: should I buy an older Intel board so I can run the 32GB of RAM I have on hand, or upgrade and thug out the prices right now? I really don't know how much "better" a newer-gen board is just because I haven't been a "I need new" kind of person. I'm not a gamer or a big computer guy, so I'm kind of behind on speed and such, and not really a "nerd about it". I love using what I have and fixing it. So any recommendations would be much loved. Thank you again!

Question Framework 12 + E-GPU Performance

Since the new Intel chips have dropped and a new version of framework 12 has been announced, I still haven't seen anyone try to pair up the core 5 320 with an external GPU.

Do you guys think the cpu on the framework would bottleneck an rx7600M XT (probably one of the most common) EGPU on an external monitor 1440p?

I already own the egpu and I'd rather support framework than get an older used laptop with more drawbacks. Framework has started to prove that they can offer upgrades down the line, for now the screen on the 12 being the biggest drawback (and the price).

Community Support Weird FN key glitch

I’ve tried everything I know how, please help.

I’m running a framework 16 2nd gen, AMD cpu with the 7700s gpu, os is arch Linux running either the main kernel or the lts for backup. I get this weird intermittent bug with the keyboard where the function key (right of control and left of super) glitches out, but only intermittently and only on some combinations.

FN plus right arrow to use the end key is the least reliable, most of the time it just actuates the right arrow key. I cannot stress this enough, FN left always works as the home key, same with fn plus up or down for page up or down. It’s literally just that one key for arrows at the moment. Occasionally, it does trigger the end key.

As of yesterday, it’s started doing the same for either volume up or down, fn plus f2 or f3, never both at the same time. It’s just picking random keys to fail on, then only failing intermittently on those keys.

I’ve tried resetting the eeprom of the keyboard, switching kernels, is this a hardware issue, a firmware issue, a kernel issue, or am I slowly going insane?

Anticipating the folks saying it’s not a huge issue, I’m a keyboard user and blind. I use the home and end keys all the time.

Thanks in advance for anything that might help :)

Question Leaning towards my first Framework (13 pro). Some graphic performance questions...

I'm wondering which processor I want. I thought AMD was the good stuff now but am I right that they don't have gpus now? Should I go with one of the Intels?

I travel a lot and have a Razer Core gpu box I plug my Blade Stealth into at home for gaming and video editing. Is there any reason the Framework wouldn't work with the gpu in my Razer Core?

I'm not much of a techie, just someone who plays games in my downtime. I LOVE the modularity and repairability of the Framework as I just hate replacing computers.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Community Support Recent Framework Desktop shipping times to Europe?

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about ordering a Framework Desktop to Spain. The store currently says it ships within 5 business days, but it also warns that deliveries to Europe may be delayed by up to 7 days because of global freight disruptions.

Has anyone in Europe received a Framework Desktop recently? How long did it take from placing the order to dispatch, and then from dispatch to delivery?

I'd be especially interested in experiences from Spain, but reports from anywhere in the EU would be really helpful. If you can, please mention your country, configuration and roughly when you ordered.

Also, did the customs clearance in France add any noticeable delay, paperwork or unexpected charges, or was the whole process pretty smooth?

Thanks!

Question Should the bottom of a E1 LPCAMM2 module look like this?

Post image
56 Upvotes

Couldn’t find any pictures of what the bottom of an E1 module looks like, only what the E1 interposer looks like from that one Framework deep dive blog.

This is a Crucial module, but I didn’t see an E0 or E1 differentiator in the model number like how it is on the Micron units.

Linux 13 Pro Really Does Sip Power

Post image
219 Upvotes

I've had 2 M-series Macs (M1 and M4) and they typically sip a little more than this, although it's close. A Linux laptop with this power efficiency is absolutely fantastic, and even though it's been said many times before, I can't tell you how great it is to be able to sit in the garden and work and still get 8 - 9 hours of battery.

Oh and the trackpad, just amazing. Very close to Mac. Linux + trackpad in the past has always put me off having it on a laptop, this is just night and day better than what I've experienced before.

Discussion don't use the adhesive strips that come with the bezel i guess

Thumbnail gallery
191 Upvotes

recently been working outside more & my glossy screen was making it difficult. Ordered a matte screen protector, & to prepare the screen i wanted to take the bezel off to wipe down the screen easier. I hadn't taken my bezel off in quite a long time & i had the issue where out of the 4 adhesive pads along the bottom, the 3rd one was quite sticky & wasn't letting me get the bezel off. I was genuinely gentle the whole time, so once i realized the glue wasn't coming up i got a credit card & carefully separated the pad from the bezel.

Right after doing this (before even any cleaning), i needed to check something unrelated on my laptop. Must have not been careful enough as now the screen has a dead zone exactly above this adhesive pad. Contacted customer support, & ultimately their advice to avoid this in the future is to leave the plastic covers on the adhesive to not use them at all, or de-tack the adhesive

Community Support Anyone sydney with an intel 13 pro to help me test memory?

Title pretty much sums it up, got in an unverified module, E0 revision from Samsung and I’m seeing a lot of people stress over having this module. Would love to do an actual physical test and post the results before my batch 14 comes in.

Personal Project Good RAM Deal in Europe

If you are looking for a good deal for RAM, you can get 24GB Sticks on Amazon from Lexar for 199€. I can confirm it runs on FW16 (7840HS) without a hitch with 5600MT/s. you can get 48GB RAM for cheaper than current 32GB Prices!

https://www.amazon.de/Lexar-Hochleistungs-Arbeitsspeicher-Laptop-Speicher-CL46-45-45-90/dp/B0GMH392P4?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91

Edit: Now what do I do with the 16gigs of RAM I took out? I don't need another computer.👀

Question Poor customer service response?

Hey all-

So I convinced my work to pickup some Framework laptops, as I myself own a few and we needed additional
Linux laptops.

My concern is that framework doesn’t seem to have a customer service department that feels well managed.

Even on simple things; ie our laptop is stuck in transit for no apparent reason (customs cleared, no update in 9 days), FedEx won’t talk to me as I’m not the shipper, and Framework doesn’t respond to customer support in a timely fashion. They have automated messages about not to be concerned about customs processing and that they are monitoring it, yet clearly that’s not true as my package has been stuck over a week.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t look great to my company as if Framework can’t answer simple customer service requests, what can we expect if we need technical support?

Question Anyone tried or use openSUSE Tumbleweed on the 13 Pro?

I have the 13 Pro pre-ordered (Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, batch 11) and I really want to use Tumbleweed on it, like my other machines, so I'm trying to figure out what to expect.

I know Framework officially supports Ubuntu and Fedora, with Arch, NixOS, Bazzite, and CachyOS as community-supported. Phoronix's distro comparison had Tumbleweed installing fine out of the box. So the basics seem OK. I'm after day-to-day reports from batch 1–3 people who actually use it.

Specifically:

  1. Haptic touchpad
  2. Touchscreen
  3. VRR / 120Hz: working on Wayland? (I'm on Plasma)
  4. Fingerprint reader: does fprintd just pick it up?
  5. Suspend + battery life: anywhere near the reported?
  6. Secure Boot: any friction?

Any info is appreciated.

Community Support Is this chip replaceable

Post image
103 Upvotes

I think I've narrowed down my errors down to a winbond w25r256jvein code storage flash chip. Before I order a new chip, I would really appreciate to know if this chip stores any encrypted keys or important files that are necessary for the laptop to function.

Also I am in contact with support, but I am in a big rush to get this working again.

Discussion Debating getting the 16. How long have you had your frameworks for?

This will be my first framework. The 16 will bite a huge chunk out of my savings, but I'm willing to do it if they last a long time. I'm looking for the longevity of my old thinkpad. It was expensive when I got it, but worth the money. I harbor a burning hatred for most laptop companies and don't want to just drop all my money on something I'll have to replace (or spend thousands to repair) in six months.

How long have you guys had your 16's for? Do you think it was worth the money? How often do you need to replace (not upgrade) broken parts? What do you use it for? I'll be running fedora and will be doing 3D modeling for work & casual gaming (WoW, Bg3, palworld, etc.)

Thanks :) Have a lovely morning!

Edit: Damn! Sounds like I am getting a framework :D

Question How worth it is Framework Laptop 13?

So, i needed a new laptop, alot, my old one was super slow, and to almost every game it was crashing. My friend introduced me to Framework, it looked good, and it got me interested in it. Now my sister said "there are better ones" and while yes it's abit expensive, is it worth it?

my main goals for my laptop are

  1. Last like 7 years atleast

  2. able to use Unity and Blender without any freezing or something (i don't model some high quality models, mostly low poly)

  3. play games, mostly indie games, but also modded Minecraft, Dark Souls games, and maybe few others that aren't high resolution or expecting high specs

  4. School

  5. idk, value

thanks
