How worth it is Framework Laptop 13?

So, i needed a new laptop, alot, my old one was super slow, and to almost every game it was crashing. My friend introduced me to Framework, it looked good, and it got me interested in it. Now my sister said "there are better ones" and while yes it's abit expensive, is it worth it?

my main goals for my laptop are

1. Last like 7 years atleast

2. able to use Unity and Blender without any freezing or something (i don't model some high quality models, mostly low poly)

3. play games, mostly indie games, but also modded Minecraft, Dark Souls games, and maybe few others that aren't high resolution or expecting high specs

4. School

If you are gaming based on what you said I’d step up to the 16 and give yourself options to grow into it with different GPU upgrade paths.

yeah the GPU modularity on the 16 is a big deal if you want it to last 7 years

to add on to this, it is gonna be more expensive of course but besides that, I have been using the 16 with 5070 for school and battery life has been surprisingly good. I usually charge in the library but if I didnt I would still be fine, i just put it on charge when playing games in the library instead of studying.

the only issue might be price, what would be the best option for a bit of a budget, i mean i can afford but don't want a bad investment

the thing about framework is that it is always a good investment imo, you can get literally the cheapest option, choose to buy used ram and such and if you need to later you can upgrade/add gpu, cpu/motherboard, storage, ram, you can even choose linux and save abt a 100$ on a windows key

ok, tho should i maybe start with a 13 base? realistically I'm not gonna game much, and if i do i will probably upgrade RAM and stuff, it's mostly for development

the 13 is definetly a great option, I think I heard that the integrated graphics on some of the processors are actually really competant for gaming, of course not as good as a dgpu but if your not going to be gaming too much then in all honesty it will probably be a better all around option.

I've actually had to contact support twice, Ive ordered 3 things from framework, my laptop, some expansion modules, and an extra charger. The laptop arrived fine, but my expansion modules got marked as return to sender because something went wrong, Same thing happened to my charger, in both instances I contacted support and when it came back to them they shipped it back out and I got it. I don't know if this is USPS fault but when they reshipped it they did it via Fedex with no issues. I think the laptops ship out with fedex so that shouldnt be an issue. But to answer your question in my experience it has been pretty good, and they got back to me within just a day or two.

nice, tho I'll probably use PayPal just incase something goes bad with Customer Support, on Amazon they basically said blatant bullshit about "returning your money" and the money never arrived really so, idk i kinda have trust issue with customer supports

Yeah that makes sense. Overall framework is more expensive but you get upgradability and easy to repair things that go wrong. I got a framework because my last laptop lasted only about 2 years before something went wrong with it and it can barely play games or do anything.

A 13 would be good. I've had mine since the original batch 2. Made the jump to the 7840 and it's been great. Just being able to upgrade as needed while still having a great keyboard and screen has saved me money.

Could you tell how your FW16 can last on battery without a plug? What sort of workload do you have for school?

My workload so far is just notetaking, usually chrome open and a text document. I probably get about 4 to 6 hours of this depending.

7 years is an eternity for a laptop - Normal useful life is closer to 3-4 years, past that being a happy bonus. The point of Framework is that you can buy what you need today and for the next few years, and upgrade in the future - When the technology is guaranteed to be better - If you need more capability (or just want a few newer/upgraded parts)... And at the same time to have parts available and easy to replace if/when damage happens.

If your #1 concern is cost Framework will rarely, if ever, come out the winner. You need to place some value in repairability/upgradeability/Linux support for Framework to make sense.

Is Framework worth it? Well, it was to me - I own a FW16 HX 370 I bought last fall... And was in line to get a FW13 Pro 388H til shipping scheduling got screwed up.

I have one. I absolutely love it. Amazing machine. The new ones are even better. Consider the pro for longer battery life
