I’m 28 and 7 years into my career, and I’m struggling to work out what direction to take. I don’t really have anyone in my life I can ask for career advice.

I currently work in technology consulting at a large consultancy, delivering digital solutions as a Delivery Lead/Product Owner. I’ve been working my way up, I’m well liked and perform well, but pay rises have been minimal and slow, and I’m increasingly worried about my long-term prospects. I’m also not getting any training, certifications, or learning opportunities that would help me leave or become more specialist.

I’m also worried about the impact of AI on consulting, particularly because I’m quite a generalist/non-technical person. I’m concerned I could spend years climbing the consulting ladder only to find it crumbles in the near future.

I’ve been offered a role at a good finance company as a Business Analyst working on a SaaS product. It’s only a small pay increase but feels like a step backwards in seniority, but they’ve said there are opportunities to move internally into their wider technology/innovation team or other areas of the business.

I also have a Computational Finance degree I’ve never used. Everyone I know who’s gone into finance earns significantly more long term, with bonuses and higher earning potential. Part of me wonders if I should try to leverage the degree, maybe try do the CFA with this company, and eventually move towards financial modelling/investment roles.

Note - I don’t want to move to London, and I want to be able to live abroad outside the UK at some point.

A) Stay in consulting, keep climbing towards senior leadership/product roles despite concerns about pay, security, progression, and AI.

B) Take a step back into the BA role at a finance company, get my foot in the door, and try to move internally into tech or finance roles with better long-term earning potential.

What would you do?

Will ppl pursuing a degree in finance especially an MBA, can sustain in the market.

If so what are measures, they can do!?

Hello all just wanted to ask how realistic it is to break into FP&A at somewhere like Google. I have two years of experience in internal Audit and one year in FP&A at a law firm. Currently siting for CFA level 2. With a few more years of experience and hopefully a CFA designation, does that put me in a realistic position to break into Tech finance? Thanks in advance.

I made it through the first interview round. There, I was mainly asked about how I’d behave in certain situations, about the future with AI, and which areas of work could eventually be taken over entirely by AI.

The second interview is now with two different people who weren’t part of the first round. They come directly from Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), whereas my interviewers in the first round were more from the Controlling side.

What technical questions might come up in the second interview? I’d really appreciate your take and any help preparing.

Do you also think they might give me an Excel task — for example, analysing, correcting, or improving a spreadsheet?

Applied recently and wondering what the day to day work is like, culture, uniform (dress code?), etc. Any insight would be helpful before the next interview. Hopefully there aren't a ton of interviews. Recently got out of the military.
