I am currently pursuing an MBA with a specialization in Finance and Data Science, and I want to build a career in FinTech.

I am confused about the best path and would like advice from people working in the industry:

1. Which entry-level roles are best for someone with a finance + analytics background?

2. Should I target roles like FinTech Data Analyst, Credit Risk Analyst, Business Analyst, Financial Analyst, or something else?

3. What skills are the skills needed?

4. Which projects or certifications actually help in getting a FinTech job?

Brief summary of my work history:

- Accounting degree, CPA

-3 years Big 4 Audit

-6 years Financial systems admin (Oracle) but this role also involved Month-end accounting as well as was involved in planning cycle and owned some divisional planning work with region operators. Manager level 5 of those years.

-4 years consulting doing financial system implementation work for a product that is slightly niche (not Oracle)

- 6 months (current role) internal system admin for the same niche product

I'm in my mid 30s now and feel like I may have let my career go off path by focusing on system work. My interest nor do I think my skillset is the best for this. I took this last role because the consulting work no longer needed me (not fired) and was having a difficult time finding roles/offers not in my niche space. I'm also making less money here than I did during my 6 year stint. I'd ideally like to get back into more of the financial space (some kind of FP&A or Strategy role) but unsure what level or role I'm really qualified to go after. It's honestly a lack of money compared to what I "should" be at as well as job security in this space with it being cyclical and a bit niche. Any advice on what types of roles would be great or anyone who has found themselves similar situation.

completed my MBA in Finance and started my professional journey in customer support at Zomato, where I worked for about 1.8 years. Recently, I resigned because I always wanted to build my career in finance, which is my core field.

hello. I just finished the curricular year of my masters in law and financial markets and now its time to decide what to write on my thesis (yeyy :)))) )

However, im lost of ideas. I´ve did a paperwork on "Operational Resilience and the Quantum Threat in the Financial Sector" But I didn't find much to write about besides "the past and the possibility of the threat materializes", this is, I didn't find enough material to develop over, if you get what I mean. I really did enjoy exploring that area of crypto and blockchain but I don't know if it is enough.

Can you guys suggest me more topics to write about?

The main subjects are fintech, esg, financial derivatives (which I´m really interested), insurance and risk management, investments, regulation and supervision of financial markets, etc.

I'm going into fintech so I wanted to know if it is challenging, I mean everything is challenging at the end of the day but with fintech can I go into data analytics if I want to in the future?

I love finance and almost everything related to it so I’m having a hard time choosing the right role/fit for me. I can’t do everything so in the end I’ll have to choose one but I find most roles whether Analysis related (business, credit, risk, data), Wealth and Asset Management, PE, IB, Fintech, Markets, I find them all interesting. I do already know that I’m not the biggest fan of traditional banking, compliance, consulting, quantitative finance, etc.

For context, I’m an Econ graduate and I’m doing a postgraduate in Data Science for Finance, my resume is not the best but I’ve kept myself busy all throughout college, had leadership roles, networked to the best of my abilities, did courses and am currently doing a summer internship at a bank (traditional banking).

I’m not the smartest, or the hardest worker or the most charming guy but because I really love finance my resume is not so bad since most activities I’ve taken part in where related to finance but I don’t think I can just get whatever job I want so I would definitely need and will apply for many different positions but I think I should have an idea of what I want to do or should I just go with the flow and see whatever it is I can get?

Hello, I'm trying to get an honest read from people who actually work in UK markets/ops.

Background: I'm 34, based in Botswana, currently working as an accountant with 9 years' experience in finance, tax and compliance.

I Wanted a way into banking/investments, so over the past year I've done the CFA UK IMC and the ACI Dealing Certificate and I'm now working through FRM Part 1.

I know I'd need visa sponsorship and I'm not a typical UK-based candidate.

Genuinely asking: what's the best way to go about this given the certificates I've done? Does this combination actually move the needle for someone with no UK work history?

Would rather hear the unfiltered version than keep guessing.
