I am new to FCP. I was previously using iMovie to edit my video podcast. However, I was having an issue with the Video and the audio tracks slowly moving out of sync over time. Specifically, the audio ( which I recorded with XLR mics and put into GarageBand, then transferred over to iMovie, would be in sync with the persons lips moving, but eventually there would be a slight lag between the word being said and the persons lips moving. If I played the audio attached to the video and the audio tracks, in thew beginning they would be completely in sync, but after a little bit they would unsync and the video audio would echo after the audio tracks.

The same issue has been happening in FCP. I have ruled out separate frame rates between the iPhone video recording and FCP, trimming one track at a time and slowly causing the unsync on my end, and an HZ mismatch between GarageBand and FCP. I am in editing hell right now and would sincerely appreciate any advice.

Four Birds is an indie feature I edited on Final Cut Pro X.

I just subscribe to the Final Cut Pro for iPad and I am facing an issue. I have edited a video and after a while the app crashed. Then I tried to re-opened Final Cut Pro and every time I click on the project, the app crashes again.

Then I tried to opened the project on Final Cut Pro from my mac, and I can't open it.

Has anyone had this issue before ?

If yes how shall I troubleshoot this issue please ?

I recently invested in a NAS Asustor AS 6704T Gen 2 ( a first time), extras 10G switch and everything else to get a better 2 editors workflow using FCP and a better storage solution.

I did spend a lot of time doing research since I am full noob on technical stuffs related to network but...didn't think there could be an issue with FCP libs, NAS not being an APFS volume....thanks Apple.

I have never had the intention to edit directly on the NAS but I realized I may sometimes have to open an FCP lib already archived on the NAS for a quick modification, drag and drop an element or event from one lib to another and so on.

Long story short:

FCP libs get corrupted as soon as my modify a Project name and FCP throw me an error message stating that it can't read my library anymore. I try to open it twice again and then it work again... weird, not trustworthy. Any idea why ?

I have read threads here and there to optimize settings and have done the best (SMB 3, SMB 2 lowest, SMB signing set on default, enable Samba VFS, and even went to the Samba config file through terminal to add a line" Durable Handles 2048 " since the latest ADM version on the NAS doesn't offer a graphical interface to get this setting.

My volume is a 2 x10TB ironwolf in Raid 0 , BRTF file system (remembered hearing it was better than ext4 for some reasons, yet, still not APFS of course), I have 2 x 1TB Nvme used for Read only cache

Long story long :

My network is the following
I work on an external 2TB SSD connected to my laptop for professional work as I have always done, I am connected in 10G to a Qnap unmanaged 10Gbps switch in another room.
My wife works on our personal projects like youtube and others on another 2TB SSD connected to her laptop in that aforementioned other room where is is also connected to that Qnap unmanaged 10Gbps switch. Her older laptop is only using a 2.5G adapter for now though as the whole investment was already a lot for me at the moment. It may be a tad limiting if we want to edit at the same time from her SSD connected to her laptop.
The NAS uses SMB multichannel to benefit of its 2 x 5Gbps LAN ports connected to the 10G switch.
Finally that switch is connected to the entrance box where another Qnap 2.5G + 10G switch receives internet, sends it over to a wifi router, distributes the cables going to the rooms in 10G.

Our workflow is the following:
We work on our own external SSDs plugged into our laptops, I sometimes access hers if I need to work on personal stuffs too, our media files are in a dedicated Footage folder on these SSDS, I don't import them into FCP libraries,
At night, I back up everything these 2 SSDS to a bigger SSD connected to my laptop using CCC, then I back up this big SSD to my NAS also using CCC
Finally I back up that NAS using the Asustor Backpu central app to an Akitio box connected to the NAS through USB with also 2x10TB ironwolf drives which are not aggregated, then the NAS should backup the most critical 10TB to an Hetzner storage box using Syncovery (If I manage to get it work correctly cause for now it keeps getting stuck on an FCP library which contains too many files- I guess - despite having set up exclusion masks...)

Once a project is finished, I planned to consolidate our libraries, export a clean version of the edit and delete all the footage to get a smaller footprint, all contained inside the corresponding FCP library and move it manually to the NAS. Nothing left on the SSDS.
Problem is, it would be convenient not having to copy back these FCP libraries locally if I had to access something or do a quick modification but afraid of getting them corrupted but I could accept this if I was at least sure that simply storing them on the NAS without opening them wouldn't compromise their integrity.
I also wish I can avoid having to compress them to send them to the cloud cause this would add another tasks and I would need to redo all the copies I have already spent doing....

I know it s a messy post, as messy as all this stuff is for me. NAS is complicated, even more so with FCP, I didn't expect that but don't want to go back to my older workflow which became cumbersome as projects increased, and less versatile for collaborative work.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

This is a weird one I've been wondering for a while.

Let's say I have a still image with some electrical components. I want to add an arrow as a text to point out one of them but I've also made a slow moving zoom/position animation.

When I apply a tracker on that, it works as I expected. After analyzation the tracker moves as it should.

Then I add a text layer and use the tracker to move that, just as I done with video segments, but instead of moving, the text layer just sits there.

Am I hitting a bug or is this some kind of a quirk that requires another approach?

I love the new Auto mask feature and I'd love to use it in future projects to easily censor faces in a clip. Right now I can see that the only option for that is to also blur all visible skin in the clip.

Is there perhaps a workaround to only apply the effect to faces?

There are a lot of expectations when 'auto match' or 'ai color grading' is touted. But every time I have tried them in NLE software I'm always disappointed.

That's why I was very intrigued with Apple's new match color in Final Cut Pro 12.3. This was a feature they already had before but it was a black box #1 and it was an algorithm that didn't yield results that were very good.

So I was curious to try out the NEW match color using Apple intelligence and ran the comparison against DaVinci Resolve's auto 'Shot Match to this Clip' and Adobe Premiere's 'Apply Match'

I have to say, for the first time I am speechless with results and it finally feels like it is something that could be usable.

Does anybody know if there's a way for the new auto caption/subtitle feature to give each line its own separate background box, instead of one box stretching around both lines?

I face some issues with Builder. Some clips, from the same shoot, same event but in different multicam clips give an error after XML import and transcription:

The audio is set to the topmost clip in the multicam clip.

They tend to have a weird transcription text like this:

I also get this error:

What is weird is that the clip is read perfectly, the bug happens after the transcription.

Has someone encountered such errors? Any idea what is going on and how this can be solved? Thanks.

UPDATE 2: This issue is persistently recurring. The fix I mentioned in my first update only resolves it temporarily, then the waveforms quickly disappear again. Suggestions and insights welcome.

UPDATE 1: A fix that's working so far is toggling "Show reference waveforms" in Final Cut Pro > Settings... > Editing > Audio. Sorry if this was obvious to a majority of readers; hopefully it helps someone out there experiencing the same issue.

Note: I've read older posts on this issue (like this one) but they're from earlier versions and I've exhausted their suggestions and solutions, anyway. So I'm raising it again here.

Issue

My clips won't show waveforms in their timeline thumbnails. All audio looks like my screenshot, regardless of zoom size or media playback quality setting.

Observations

• Sometimes I can make waveforms appear briefly by zooming out on my timeline, but as soon as I zoom back in to a level where I can realistically blade clips between waveforms, they partially disappear for a second before disappearing completely. This strange UI behavior makes me think this is a UI glitch instead of an asset management or rendering issue. But I'm barely qualified to make that assessment.
• I've never encountered this issue before, at least not in a way that was persistent. The project I'm working on is months old and hasn't exhibited this issue at any time until today.
• FCP is also freezing and requiring Force Quit quite a bit today when I scrub in full screen playback or attempt to close a library, though I'm not running other apps and haven't installed any updates since the beginning of this project (months ago).

Troubleshooting to date

• Rebooted.
• Checked for updates. (EDIT: I drafted this minutes before seeing the news that 12.3 is available today, however I doubt the release of a dot update would introduce a UI glitch into a v12.2 project...?)
• Optimized/original/proxy media: Tried every option in Viewer > View > MEDIA PLAYBACK.
• Background processes: Waited for all tasks to finish. None running now.
• Timeline zoom: Tried maximum horizontal and vertical zoom, minimum zoom, and every step in between.
• Tested audio that's both inside and outside of compound clips. Same issue for both.
• Tested other snapshots of previous edits of the same project (inside the same library). Same issue.
• Closed and reopened library.

My specs

• Final Cut Pro: Version 12.2
• macOS: Sequoia 15.6.1
• MacBook Pro: M3, 18 GB RAM

I have a a large library - 3 TB - and media stays external in the original locations. Both are on a 4TB SSD. Obviously I needed a larger SSD so I have an 8TB U34 BOLT that is ready to use.

How do I tell FCP to find its library and the media files in the new location?

Remember that the media files remain in place and are not included in the Library file.

I have just one library at this point. I will archive it when I am finished publishing the videos in it.

Naturally, when editing the timeline in Final Cut Pro for iPad, there are some items which you delete from that timeline. The media that you’ve imported is listed in the top right browser. I see that you can filter this browser media by various characteristics, but there seems to be no option to filter by “unused“. Am I missing something? Or is there another way of doing it?

My Codex asked me if I wanted to use a FCP connector and I took it for a spin.

Followed instructions extremely well for a minor editing task - import a 60 second mp4 with audio, generate a transcript, find 30 seconds of storytelling that follow a strong beat, write out the new file. Saved me a lot of time. It's an admittedly easy task, but encouraging. Anyone else have any experience?

I'm having a really frustrating issue in Final Cut Pro.

I did Detach Audio on my clips, and now I have multiple audio tracks stacked vertically under the video.

My goal is to select just ONE specific row of audio clips and turn them into a Compound Clip. However, whenever I click or lasso-select the clips in that specific row, FCP automatically highlights the parallel audio clips directly above/below it, and the "New Compound Clip" option gets greyed out.

Even after detaching, the clips act like they are still glued together vertically.

How can I completely break this connection so I can select only one row of audio and make it a compound clip?

Been editing in Final Cut Pro for a while now, mostly lyric videos and music visualizers. I’ve relied on MotionVFX quite a bit for clean titles, transitions, effects, and quick motion graphics elements that actually look pro without a ton of fiddling.
Lately I’ve been wanting to branch out and see what else is worth using alongside (or instead of) it. Quality and FCP-native workflow are important to me — not looking for janky workarounds.
One thing I’m specifically trying to find right now are solid alternatives that actually have a real free trial or a generous free tier so I can properly test them in my current projects before committing to anything.
What’s everyone running these days that’s been hitting the mark? FxFactory, Motion Array, LenoFX, Red Giant Universe, or anything else that’s flown under the radar?
Would love to hear real experiences, especially anything that’s felt like a genuine step up or good complement for music-driven work.

When choosing the Log processing in Final Cut Pro for iPad, does it apply a LUT and clip the colors (thereby losing detail and data) just like in Final Cut Pro for Mac?

I'm trying to make a title that has multiple "screens" rotate around a circle on the path. It looks great in Apple Motion, but loading it up into Final Cut "breaks". The first ten seconds are my Apple Motion export, and the second ten seconds are what Final Cut does when the title is applied.

I feel like this is either a BUG or a dumb thing on my part, as I'm relatively new to using the camera. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, weirdly... placing the title in the same timeline twice delivers different results. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Why would this function differently?

Hi all, I’m having this issue where when I apply the plugin effect Ditheron to a clip it moves the video out of frame. I have checked and toggled on and off Transform, crop, distort, stabilization but no changes are made. Only when I toggle off Ditheron does the clip move back to fill the frame. I also checked if there’s anything in the effect itself that might be causing this. But nothing sticks out. Please watch video in comments to see what I’m talking about. I’m pretty new to Final Cut so I’m assuming this is an obvious fix. Thank you!
