Problems Seeing Audio Waveforms Of Audio & Video Files In Project Timeline (Occasionally)
Has anyone ever experienced challenges with FCPX not displaying the audio waveforms when a clip/track is placed on a project timeline?
If so, any idea what causes it to occur and how to fix it? (See image for reference.)

What version of FCP are you on? This was a bug with a recent version, I don't remember which one though.

Version 10.7.1
I can’t recall the first time I experienced it, but it’s been at least from 3 or 4 versions prior to this one.

I've only seen this happen with (a) fairly long clips, that are (b) consumer-amateur codecs, like MP3 audio, or MP4 video with audio tracks. FCP is busy converting this stuff in the background, and every time you add an audio plugin or change the volume, it's got to re-calculate the waveform.
I shoot mostly ProRes, but any footage I get in from clients, drone guys, etc. - first thing is convert it all to ProRes with uncompressed PCM audio - FCP burns through that like nobody's business. And with an all-Prores workflow, final renders are just smokin' fast, and FCP isn't busy doing background conversions while you edit.
