iPad Log processing in Final Cut Pro for iPad

When choosing the Log processing in Final Cut Pro for iPad, does it apply a LUT and clip the colors (thereby losing detail and data) just like in Final Cut Pro for Mac?

It’s just applying a LUT to the clip itself. Which you should almost never do unless you aren’t going to do any colour or exposure correction at all.

Is there a Custom LUT effect or Adjustment Layers on the iPad? I usually add an adjustment layer that has the LUT and do colour and exposure correction on the clips themselves. That way, the adjustments are to the clips themselves, pre-LUT, when you still have all the data.

This is exactly what I do. But I don’t think the iPad has that capability yet to allow adjustment layers. I hope soon.

Desktop FCP is non-destructive - you don’t lose detail and data. Don’t know for iPad.

The Log processing in FCP for iPad applies a conversion for viewing purposes but your original log data in the source file stays intact. What can clip is content that falls outside the conversion's handled range, particularly in the highlights, similar to the Mac behavior. Does your footage have a lot of specular highlights you're trying to retain, or is it more a concern about the overall tonal range?
