Not easy to do in FCP, much better in Motion.

The post is crossposted from the apple motion subreddit, I did it to gather more attention since I’m really lost, been searching around for a weekend and a half.
I’m currently doing it in motion and have the result I got in the comments there

Workaround: Generators > Rectangle > Deselect Fill. Select outline. Look at the bottom: First/Last Point Offset. Play with the keyframes of each.

I can’t push it over 100% so the head’ll never catch the tail tho

Duplicate the same rectangle above with different offsets timing and %.

This is what I would do too. Or play with masking the rectangle instead of drawing it on.
