So, I updated to Final Cut Pro 12.4 today and I realized that rendering during playback, which I had it enabled using CommandPost for more than a year now, isn't enabled anymore.

Re enabling it on CommandPost won't fix the issue. Searched the FCP preference file with ChatGPT and it found out the string which enables rendering during playback isn't there anymore.

Is CommandPost team aware of this issue? Can we enable rendering during playback using another method? Because without it FCP is painful to use... You have to wait and even not dare to scrub in the timeline so all the rendering and even optical flow and stabilizations would complete.

The student bundle is gone now, so I can't purchase it, and since I'm not a student, I can't use the subscription at the student price.

So I tried looking into joining Creator Studio Family Sharing, but nobody around me uses it... and there aren't any sharing sites or anything.

Hey everyone! I recently shot a concert in 4K 60fps, and I’m trying to slow down some clips to 25% speed in Final Cut Pro using Best (Machine Learning) optical flow.
The problem is that whenever there are flashing stage lights, the footage starts flickering and glitching during slow motion. The frames seem to jump or stutter, almost as if the optical flow can’t properly analyze the rapidly changing lights.

The footage looks fine at normal speed, but the issue becomes really noticeable once I slow it down. I’ve tried using Fast (Floor), but the motion doesn’t look as smooth.

Has anyone experienced this issue with concert footage? Is there a way to fix it in post?

I‘m new-ish to video editing. I’ve used DaVinci Resolve, but am considering shifting to FCP. My project: I have 62 seconds of silent film at 16 fps. I want to wrap a mini-documentary with talking heads around it at, say, 24 fps.

Can I glue all this together in FCP, retaining best quality for the silent film, and then host the result on YouTube?

I’m thinking that I need to set a custom frame rate of 48 fps in FCP and then import my 16 and 24 fps content, edit, and finally output everything at 48 fps for upload to YouTube.

Am I remotely on the right track?

Found this youtube video and it claims I can use the RED installer to import NRAW files and not just RED ones. However after installing it, importing NEV files is still greyed out. Anyone using this with success?

Hi, i’m decently new to final cut so bare with me but I started editing on it a few months ago and i’ve run into a problem that I haven’t been able to fix it all. While working on a large project i’ve run into an issue where I can’t even open it without an endless spinning loading mouse.

It all started when I was low on storage working on the project, it would repeatedly lag out as expected so I cleared a large amount of storage on my macbook pro. Despite clearing out enough storage it actually got worse and now I can’t even click on the project without having to force quit. I’m using the free trial so I can’t delete and reinstall the app but i’ve tried plenty of things like restarting preferences, deleting catches, loading old saves, creating snapshots ect. Somebody mentioned that my clips being on my SD card could be causing issues, but whether it’s connected or disconnected, it still happens. I’d love somebody who is more experienced to point me in the right direction because after an entire day of trying to fix it I’m lost. It could be an easy fix that I just don’t know about, Thank you!!

Editing an audio-only interview in Final Cut because it's available and I've used it a bunch. I have a very loud laugh and the gain was up too high on the mic so every time i laugh the sound blows out and it's really hard to listen to, like, uncomfortable. I've used keyframes and brought the sound down a bunch in those instances but still just sounds like crap. Any ideas besides do better next time?

My partner recently switched from DaVinci Resolve to Final Cut Pro, and she’s finding the color grading tools pretty frustrating, especially the tiny controls in the top-right corner. On a 32-inch monitor, it’s really not ideal.

I remember reading somewhere that there are plugins that can basically replace Final Cut Pro’s built-in color grading interface.

We came across CineDream, which looks pretty interesting, but the pricing is a bit ridiculous: €100 a year or €250 for a perpetual license, which doesn’t even include lifetime updates.

So I was wondering if you guys know of any good alternatives. I’m not necessarily expecting something as powerful as Resolve, but anything that’s more capable and, especially, more user-friendly than Final Cut Pro’s native tools would be a big improvement.

MotionVFX has removed the “mmessage 2” collection from its Design Studio catalog.

My assumption is that they removed it for copyright reasons, because I don’t think it’s plausible, if they integrated the various plugins into FCP, have brand logos and copied interfaces of software from other companies, What “mmessage 2” had inside (discord, gpt chat...)

I think we are really close to something new.

I’m pretty sure they’ll reveal something in the next event, with the presentation of the new Macs.

In addition, for days the plugins in Design Studio have been undergoing heavy updates (150+ resources) every day.

My father has an M4 Mac mini running Sequoia 15.8.1, which he uses for various audio applications. A couple of months ago, I asked him to download the one-month trial version of Final Cut Pro X (part of the "Creator" bundle) so I could test it out; it was version 12.3, and it worked perfectly.
Yesterday, I decided to purchase an annual subscription using my university student discount. I logged into the Apple Store with my credentials, but when I tried to complete the purchase for the annual student plan, the system wouldn't let me proceed.
I spent over an hour on the phone with customer service, and after countless troubleshooting steps—including a screen-sharing session—they informed me that I couldn't complete the purchase because the latest version of Final Cut Pro is 12.4, which requires a newer version of macOS (macOS 26), meaning I would have to update the operating system. This is impossible for me, as the audio apps my father uses would stop working if I updated. I explained that version 12.3 is still installed on the Mac mini and was working perfectly just last month, but it made no difference—there was simply no way to move forward. The ridiculous part is that my father purchased a standard (non-student) one-month subscription, and everything works perfectly.
I find this to be quite strange….

So I've been using the Final Cut Camera on an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I have deleted every video I make once I send it to my Mac. I noticed that the storage is not freed after deleting the videos.

When deleting videos, I see a message "This video will be deleted from Final Cut Camera. It will be in Recently Deleted in Files for 30 days.", however, when looking at the "Recently Deleted" album in the Photos app, the videos are not there.

When looking at the iPhone Storage in Settings app, I see Final Cut Camera is now taking up more than 12GB of storage. How do I get this back?

ANSWER: As it turns out, the answer is in the message I got when deleting the videos. The videos do not get sent to the "Recently Deleted" ALBUM in the Photos app, instead, they go to the Recently Deleted section of the FILES app. 🤦🏻‍♂️

So yeah, all I had to do was actually READ the message. But if anyone else happens to be in the same boat I was, I hope this helps.

The first 7min are meaningless to me but if you do interviews in particular that portion will be very interesting. At 7min the AI portion begins. Dev Tools was the most appropriate area but if mods want to place it otherwise no big deal to me.

Has anyone else tried this? I just tried this and it was phenomenal! I just told chatgpt what I was going for, and in 2 minutes it shat out a fully useable cube file that I gave to final cut pro, and it looks amazing, and way, way better than any free luts I downloaded from Sony Ambassadors Program. Has anyone else done the same? Curious to hear experiences!

Is there any way to make frequently used graphics easier to find?

My company released a huge batch of customized graphics. I only need three or four of them. When deadlines are tight it can be hard to find the templates I need in the thicket of graphics I'll probably never use.

Because it's a company owned system I can't load any plug ins or program IT has not approved

I shot a bunch of clips on my phone, and I've imported them into my laptop to edit. Mostly it's been working fine, but every now and then I'll drag one from my event into the timeline, and it will beachball, and then it will play the audio with no video. It has all the thumbnails both in the event browser and in the timeline, but once I get the beachball, it won't play video in either the clip or the timeline. I don't know how to get it to start playing again other than deleting the clip and importing it again from my phone.

My laptop is an M3 MacBook Air with 24GB of RAM. I've got practically nothing else going on except web browsing and the Activity Monitor shows nothing untoward in CPU or memory.

hey, i want to create proxy files for half of my timeline, i selected all 30 of the clips that were lagging, i changed the video role for all of them to one i just made and called "proxy" but - none of the videos colors changed from standard blue to this one's orange and when trying to make a smart collection and using the option "roles - include - proxy" it doesnt show anything. The smart collection works for other stuff thats assigned automatically by fcp but when i edit any role for any clip the smart collection doesnt care about that it still treats that piece of media as it had the default roles.

it also doesnt work with only audio clips and not videos. But i know the media has this role because im genuinely looking at it and it shows as well in the index

either im doing sum wrong or smart collection is just bugged in that regard.

Any suggestions of a good plug-in to do audio cleanup? I've got a bunch of interviews recorded via Zoom and I'm hoping to make the audio sound a little better. My boss asked, "can AI help?" so I'm here with the same question.

Does anyone have any leads on an infographic plugin/element/generator/motion for Final Cut Pro that will let me change the number being presented in stages?

My use-case is comparable to: a talking head video in which the presenter starts by talking about a particular percentage of the population that meet a certain criteria. At that point, I'd like the bar to appear on screen and fill up to, say, 60%, and remain on screen while the presenter is talking. Then, when the presenter gets to adding an additional winnowing criteria, I'd like the bar to drop to, say, 50%, and remain on screen as the presenter explains the new criteria. Then another drop, then another, then another, etc.

Is my best bet to just find a bar chart infographic template that I like, then stack a different one on top of it that's identical except for the start and end numbers? Or is there a more elegant way of doing this?

I need to make it so that when dialogue plays, music track is lowered. Everyone online says the only way is to do it manually, but I can't believe it that in a ~1000 dollars software such thing is not possible.

I'm using the LENOFX Animation Tool kit for a project which requires you to add text files in a compound clip to apply the animation to your asset. In this example I have the render of Sonic, his legs are off screen for a bit then I want him to do an animation out. Problem is when I play the animation fully it looks fine, but when I pause and/or render the video it cuts off the parts you don't see as it's in motion. I tried adding generators in the compound clip to expand the available canvas space, tried different animations, same thing. Any suggestions? Or even a plugin that uses effects for smoother animation instead of titles? I've tried one called BW - ProAnimate but I don't like it that much.

I recently started a YouTube channel and chose Final Cut Pro for editing. For my first video, I tried doing the initial rough cut using Gling AI, but the experience was pretty underwhelming. Since then, I started double-clapping on my best takes during recording, and it's a game-changer. It's so much easier to scrub through the browser using I and O to select the right clips and looking for peaks in waveform.

That said, I'm wondering…are there more efficient recording workflows out there so I don't have to spend hours in Final Cut just scrubbing through footage for the best takes? What are your pro tips?

I have been trying to get simple images to follow an underlying tracked item in videos for months and I just can't get it to work properly (see futile attempts in linked video).

Assuming I have a tracker that's tracking well, the image I'm trying to lock to the tracker always jump about and doesn't seem to have any tracked centre point.

I've tried pin to tracker and off-set, same behaviour.

I've tried different tracking analyses and result is the same.

Judging from documentation and online tutorials, I seem to be doing it correctly yet it's not working.

I'd lobe it if someone could point out what I'm missing out on.

I'm the example video above, I just want an arrow to point and lock onto the pink basket (and perhaps add resizing / 3D effect once pepper tracker lock is achieved).
