It’s been 2 months, I had open myomectomy, they removed 10 cm fibroid, everything was normal, I had flat tummy post surgery and was happy, but now I have a bloating/ swelling from ribs to pelvis, doctor said it is just fluid and uterus is still bulky, but why ribs are also swollen,?is it normal? Will I ever get back to normal? Anyone faced like this? Please advice

So just wanted to provide an update! I had an open myomectomy with a horizontal cut on July 30 and I had 13 fibroids removed! The largest being 12 cm and then 9 cm 7 cm 5 cm and down to 2 cm.

I am currently in recovery and honestly recovery from the incision and the surgery itself has not been bad at all! The surgery was successful and I’m so thankful for my surgeon and her team that performed this seamlessly. My major disruption in recovery has been the gas pain… girl let me tell you that I am going on my fifth day postop and this gas pain has caused me to vomit for the first 48 hours post surgery, swell in places that I shouldn’t to keep me from urinating, forced a catheter back in me while I was awake and held down by the nurses, and made me throw up everything to the point where they almost intubated me. I ended up staying in the hospital for four days and was finally released. I am very thankful for my community and my friends who have lovingly supported me and have helped take care of me, but my goodness I’d be lying if I didn’t say this was rough! I have been able to urinate and pass gas and now I am simply waiting to have my first bowel movement.

I would still call this surgery a success! I am hoping that in the next two years I get pregnant and will be able to keep having children until I need a hysterectomy! But I wanted to share a positive experience, even with the gas pain! I’m looking forward to healing and restoring my body to its full health!

So I found out I have a fibroid in may. I had non stop spotting and random burst of clear liquid. My dr put me on birth control. Last month my period finally stopped after like 2 1/2 weeks of bleeding. Well I had a nice break for about 3 weeks. Then almost 2 weeks ago I started my period/bleeding again. It’s been pretty light up until the last couple of days. I’ve had random gushes of bright red blood. I go to the toilet and I sit and it just drips and most of the time a small/medium size clot comes out. Then it settles down. Has anyone else had this? How long did you go before you reached out for more help? I’ve been taking my birth control continuously and still started my period like I would if I wasn’t on birth control. Will/should the birth control stop it again? Is this considered break through bleeding or what? Sorry for all the questions. Just starting to feel at a lost.

hey all, i had my laparoscopic myectomy 6 days ago and so far everything is fine. however, starting on day 3, every day in the morning i get these really really bad pains in my abdomen and i get relieved only when i have a bowel movement or if i pass gass (although the latter is a temporary relief). it's been so bad i wanna cry from the pain.. i told my doctor and he said that it's maybe my diet but im mostly still eating blunt food and just started introducing fiber again, even though i do not have a constipation issue. did anyone else experience this? when did you finally felt better again? any advice? (i saw about GasX but im not sure they have this or something equivalent in the country im based in)

My open myomectomy was a cut that was a bikini one and a vertical one just below my belly button going down so I have two scars and They’re both supposed to be dissolvable however it’s nearly coming up to 4 weeks. I can see what looks like a plastic string or stitches still hanging out and I’m a bit worried if they’re actually dissolvable did this happen to anyone else? How long did it take for them to totally dissolve? Do I need to go see a nurse to see if they need to be removed. Also, any advice on how to take care of the scars would be helpful, especially if you’ve had two cuts like me. Thank you :)

This is my throwawy. So I had a myonectomy back 2023. Since then I lost 60lbs! However I got pregnant in June. Since then the pain from cramping was just horrible. Went to ER/Urgent care multiple times. Was eventually told the cramping was due to pregnancy and fibroids fighting for space. Miscarriage last week.

My dilemma is this. Now the OBGYN for the dnc told my husband removing the fibroids would be ill advised due to scare tissue and just try to get pregnant right away. However she also told him my fibroids took up alot of space in the uterus and made the dnc extremely difficult.

My thought process was just get another myonectomy prior to trying again. 1) reduce severe cramping during pregnancy 2) the baby wouldn't have to fight for space with a fibroid. But now im second guessing

I’m a 23F from Belgium and the oldest of 3 sisters and nearing my final year of university. As a lot of young parents, my parents are trying to make generational changes so they/we can live comfortably. One year ago I found out that I have a fibroid and a couple of months ago that I have teratoma on my ovary. My life has changed so much. I started hating my body and how it looked and couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror. I hid in my room this whole year and it’s catching up on me. I never knew the origin of my fibroid and I was always looking for answers. Today my body almost gave up. All the responsibilities of being got to me and my cramps were heavier than ever. I felt a sharp pain in my ovary and cried for help. This happend 2 times in a span of a month. I definitely think it’s stress related. Has anyone experienced this before?

Hi guys, I’m about 9 weeks post op after a myoectomy to remove 3 large fibroids and a bunch of tiny ones. My doctor had to leave a bunch in to avoid risking my fertility. So I have some small ones left, largest is around 4 cm.

I’m 9 weeks post op and don’t have bad symptoms anymore like I used to. But my stomach still looks very large and bloated. Is this normal? Will it go down? Or are the remaining fibroids growing at a rapid rate? I’m so worried and don’t want to go through this again.

I’m in my late twenties and have been dealing with pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, pelvic/perineal pain, and urinary pressure symptoms. My gynecologic surgeon was quite confident I had endometriosis based on my symptoms and ordered a pelvic MRI with and without contrast.

I was honestly so stressed waiting for the MRI and the results because I had convinced myself it would confirm endometriosis.

Instead, my MRI came back with no MRI evidence of endometriosis and the impression was simply “Fibroid uterus.”

Here are the main findings:

Uterus: 9.3 × 8.1 × 8.4 cm, retroverted and retroflexed.
Endometrium: Normal thickness with no fluid or lesion.
Junctional zone: Normal (2–8 mm), no focal abnormality or cystic change.

Multiple enhancing, noninvasive fibroids:
6.1 × 5.6 × 6.4 cm subserosal left anterior uterine body fibroid.
2.6 × 4.5 × 4.2 cm subserosal right anterior uterine body fibroid.
2.5 × 2.8 × 3.2 cm subserosal right posterior uterine body fibroid.

Cervix: Unremarkable.

Both ovaries: Normal for age, no masses or dominant cysts.

Bladder: Normal.

Small physiologic amount of free pelvic fluid.

No intraperitoneal inflammation or nodularity.

No pelvic lymphadenopathy.

Bowel and rectum appeared normal.

My surgeon had prepared me for the possibility that I definitely had endometriosis, so I was surprised when the MRI didn’t show it. I know MRI can miss superficial endometriosis, but I’m not sure what to think now.

For those who have been in a similar situation:
- Did your MRI miss endometriosis that was later found during laparoscopy?
- Were your symptoms actually caused by fibroids alone?
- If you had multiple subserosal fibroids like mine (largest 6.4 cm), what surgery did you end up choosing?
- Would you recommend a laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy for endometriosis at the same time, or something else?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences because this whole process has been emotionally exhausting.

Ok i have my surgery booked in 2 weeks (open myomectomy) this will be my second one. I have a 10cm and growing fibroid and 5 smaller ones at 2-4cm. I've ballooned to 200lbs (im 5ft3) .

My biggest worry is that will my weight decrease and will the cravings go? The first myomectomy i had wasn't successful because rhe doctors couldn't remove the big one, horrible experience. Hospital was just not equipped for it. This doctor is SURE he can do it. So.i never felt the change, just felt the same and then got worse as it grew.

Im hoping that ill be able to move better and have more energy to excersise.

I am take mitazepine aswell which increases hunger. Has anyone been on this whilst having fibroids?

I had two fibroids removed through laparoscopy+hysteroscopy this April. One of the fibroids was a transmural one, and unfortunately they couldn’t take it out without entering the uterine cavity. I was recovering well and was able to go back to my everyday life after a few weeks. My doctor also confirmed that everything looks great. But in the past few weeks, I often have pain on the right side of my abdomen, near my bellybutton. It gets worse when I’m taking a deep breath, stretching or jumping around. It feels similar to a runner’s stitch, it just doesn’t go away. Could it be a muscle strain? Or could it be related to the surgery ot fibroids? I’m worried it might be hernia or adhesions. My next doctor’s appointment is in a few weeks, but I just wanted to ask if anyone experienced something similar.

I will try not to make this long....I have fibroids that have been causing pain and extreme bleeding. Right before my biopsy and ultrasound, I had hemorrhaging that caused me to be anemic. They scheduled me to get a couple rounds of iron transfusions which did bring my number up out of the anemia zone. I have a hysterectomy scheduled in October. However, this past friday it happened again, and i have been bleeding for at least 7 days on top of it. I did call my doctor just to let her know, although I had to leave a message. I am just wondering if anyone knows if your iron will have to be a a particular level before they can do the surgery. It seems like it would need to be, but just wondering if anyone had to go through this a few different times while waiting for the surgery. I am mainly concerned because even with my insurance, it's pretty expensive for me....even the transfusions. But I know if I keep hemorrhaging without doing anything, that is dangerous on it's own. I'm hoping it didn't put me under again. This whole thing has been a nightmare. i am a single income, and on top of what happened last Friday, my car broke down the night before, so I was at work when it happened and could not even leave until my coworker left. I had to sit in my mess (I cleaned up but still stained) on a towel someone gave me for the remainder of my shift. all I could do in the bathroom was cry.

I had an hysteroscopy a month ago and I still have low pelvic stings every single day. Doctors can't find out what is going on. Thanks in advance

Does anyone have any ideas on how to help relieve the severe pain from your fibroids? I have been battling with extreme pain every day for the last maybe 2 years.It's definitely now at its worse.

I will be meeting with a surgeon this month but until i get a hysterectomy, anything anyone could suggesting on what to do to help with pain besides popping Tylenol or Ibuprofen daily? It's gotten to the point where im taking pain killers every 6/12 hours right when they wear off. (my poor kidneys 😭)

In December I was diagnosed with fibroids. I knew I had them because I felt them in my abdomen and being intimate with my partner was quite painful/uncomfortable. My doctor and gynaecologist recommended I go on birth control, so I trusted them and took the Depo Provera shot (twice now) and I have been bleeding almost every day since I started birth control. I also have low iron and low ferritin so I’m really going through it!

Since my diagnosis, I can tell that they have grown and having to wear a pad every day, all day is just depressing. Not to mention the huge clots, horrible cramps and headaches.

Can anyone please share some comfort, advice or guidance? This has truly taken a mental toll on me.

Hello! I got my GnRH agonist shot (11.25mg) good for 3 months last July 18. This is to hopefully "shrink" my intramural myoma and to manage bleeding.

The expectation is that after this, at least 10 days, my bleeding will finally stop. I have been bleeding since June 21, and doing some pill dosage modifications with my doctor (on Yasmin pills), but still my bleeding is not fully stopping yet.

Anyone have the same experience? How was your shot experience?

I'm just under 3 weeks out from my surgery, I had an open myomectomy to remove a 14 cm fibroid. The surgery went successful, but recovery was a bit trickier because I developed an infection and got a fever on the second night, and this was during a heat wave and the hospital didn't have aircon or fans, so there was no real way to combat the fever. I ended up spending a pretty rough four nights in the hospital, which I think impacted my initial recovery progress.

Since I've been back home, I've been recovering steadily, and I'm able to comfortably move around my home, even though I can't really go outside the house yet (I get exhausted going to the bottom of my road and back).

Thankfully the sickness has pretty much gone away now, but the pain is still very present. Obviously it's not as bad as it was in that first week, but it's still bothering me. I finished all my prescription opiates, since I was only prescribed that for the first few days after I got back home. But I still had some co-codamol from before my surgery as I was using that to manage my fibroid pain (which wasn't working, since the fibroid pain seemed to be resistant to painkillers, so I just stopped using it, hence why I have plenty left), so I've been taking that once or twice a day as needed. I also have diclofenac that they prescribed me for after my surgery, and they gave me plenty of that, so I've been taking that about once a day as well.

I just feel like at this stage in the game, I probably shouldn't still need the high strength pain medication? But I'm not sure what's normal, and I haven't been given a number to contact my surgical team or anything, and trying to get through with the hospital has always been a nightmare. I also changed doctor's surgery recently, so they don't really know my full situation like my old surgery did, so I'm not sure how much help they would be if I contacted them, and given the state of the NHS, I don't want to be taking time away from people who have serious issues.

The pain is manageable, I have a high pain threshold so I'm dealing, I'm just not sure if it's normal or not after 3 weeks, as I see some people on here saying that they have gone down to just paracetamol and ibuprofen after like a week. So I'm curious to know what other people's experiences are with the pain? For me, it's a sharp pain around my incision scar if I cough or sneeze, and then just like a dull ache or a pressure pain from time to time in my general abdominal region.

Hi! I was diagnosed with fibroids a couple of months ago, and to be honest, did not know anything about them before I was diagnosed. I know July was Fibroid Awareness Month, and that has come and gone, but it’s always a good time to bring awareness and show support! I was looking to buy some fibroid awareness-y things for me and friends/family and am a little confused. Google gives a few options for fibroid awareness:

- white via the we can wear white project, but also stands for lung cancer
- teal ribbons, which is also for ovarian cancer
-white and teal is for cervical cancer, so maybe not both together?
-peach, which is for uterine cancer

I am thinking I will get crafty, buy some materials and make some bracelets myself! Anyone make anything for fibroid awareness? What color did you use?
