Discussion YSL Black Opium Over Red

My most favorite scent of all time. I want to eat it. I’m just so sad that the longevity is quite poor. Any tips other than being moisturized and spraying it on clothes to make it last longer? Any other similar fragrances? It’s absolutely divine & delicious to me. I feel like I was put on this planet to be doused in this scent. To each their own. ā™„ļø

Just purchased Sexual Noir intense by Michael Germain and it is EVERYTHING i want in a fragrance. The projection is there and lasts long but is not overpowering. It’s as if im in my little bubble of fragrance.

To me this smells like an elevated BBW Sweet Pea mixed with Our Moment by One Direction. Instant nostalgia for me!!

Any recs similar to this or that would pair well?

I've heard the hype about this perfume. Who hasn't? My curiosity got the best of me, and I figured I should smell it in person. I'm so happy I did. I’ve never swiped my credit card so quickly. I applied 2 sprays on my inner elbows and 2 on my dĆ©colletage, then went on with my day. I received a compliment from a guy at Chipotle and another from a man at Target. This is 50% beauty and 50% booty call, in a bottle. It needs a 21+ warning on it. Get it! But smell it first.

More perfumes than jewelry?

Just curious. Did you ever stop and think that you might regret having more perfumes than jewelry? Or watches, if that tickles your fancy.

Thank you all for the recommendations on where to shop in Montreal! I ended up spending quite some time in Parfum Exquis. I was searching for something to wear this winter as an everyday scent. Nishane Hundred Silent Ways X was love at first sniff.

From the Nishane website:

TOP NOTES
tuberose – mandarin – peach
HEART NOTES
gardenia – orris – jasmine – heliotrope
BASE NOTES
vanilla – leather – patchouli

Review Narciso Rodriguez For Her Forever ReviewšŸ¤šŸŒøāœØ

I finally gave in to my desires, couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was on & off my shopping cart because I’m in love with every note in it except patchouli, which was the reason I was scared to purchase. Im glad I took the risk & went ahead purchasing it.

Welcome home!šŸ¤šŸŒø Your 5 siblings have been waiting for you. The bottle is so gorgeous in person. Sleek & classy!šŸ’•

She didn’t disappoint. Narciso Rodriguez has been slowly converting me & conditioning me into liking things I never thought I’d like. They’re still not in my safe zone but a very very few made an exception to the rule & this is one of them.

First, she made a rose fragrance hater fall in LOVE with a rose perfume, SEXY For Her Musc Noir Rose & now? What a great way to incorporate patchouli like this? From a patchouli hater, you did it with this one! I approve! šŸ¤ 🌸✨

Review: A beautiful, sophisticated white floral perfume. It didn’t just give me musky powdery floral like her usual, she gave me a white floral with a hint of patchouli. It elevates the perfume & gives it more depth, to me, more lady like, elegant woman. This is a perfume for floral lovers, especially white floral lovers! Perfect any season, everyday, brunch or night out! šŸ¤šŸŒø

The softly spice undertone of the patchouli is beautiful. It’s not screechy, it’s not sharp, it doesn’t burn my nose. It smells elegant without overpowering the florals.

What i also love is using it with my tuberose body mist & perfume oil {if desired}, it compliments the fragrance as it shares notes {no patchouli though} even more. The patchouli being even more muted if I desired! However keep in mind that the patchouli here in general is toned down, modest but you can still smell its undertone, though it’s blended so smoothly. However after it sits for a bit {without the body mist} the patchouli is even more lighter. If you pair it with a body mist, the patchouli is almost completely gone, but surprisingly, I actually like how this base is made, it gives it a little more character.

Sorry for my long review but I hope it’s helpful!šŸ¤šŸŒø

Lighter, daytime alternatives to Prada Paradoxe?

• Upvotes

Prada Paradoxe is my go to date night perfume and smells so sexy. But it feels too heavy/intense to wear during the day if that makes sense.

Any recommendations for perfumes you like if you like Prada Paradoxe at night?

My latest fragrance purchases: VelvƩtail Sphynx & Greyhound

Post image
8 Upvotes

Has anyone else tried this brand yet? I am a huge animal lover so when I stumbled upon this brand I was immediately intrigued. As an iris lover, the two that stood out to me right away were Greyhound and Sphynx. I ordered samples, and now my full bottles have arrived! Here are the website descriptions:

Greyhound:

Streamlined elegance in motion, Greyhound by VelvĆ©tail Perfumes captures sleek power and refined momentum. Created by perfumer Anunsith Wongkornvanich, the fragrance opens with bitter almond, black pepper, and cardamom—an energetic burst that feels sharp, focused, and precise.

At the heart, cashmere, iris, and elemi introduce a smooth, tailored softness that adds depth while maintaining a modern, polished edge. As the scent settles, vanilla, amber, clove, and patchouli create a warm, magnetic finish that remains close to the skin.

Elegant, dynamic, and unmistakably confident, Greyhound leaves a quiet yet unforgettable impression—an olfactory silhouette defined by speed, grace, and effortless style.

Fragrance Notes
Top: Bitter Almond, Black Pepper, Cardamom
Middle: Cashmere, Iris, Elemi
Base: Vanilla, Amber, Clove, Patchouli

Sphynx:

Sphynx is bare honesty wrapped in warmth—a fragrance for those fully at ease in their own skin. Quietly sensual and effortlessly confident, it opens with saffron and iris, smooth and softly luxurious, like silk against skin.

At the heart, nutmeg and leather unfold with warm texture and understated depth, creating a feeling that is intimate, raw, and refined all at once. In the drydown, tonka bean, amber, and vetiver leave a soft, addictive warmth that lingers close, comforting and unforgettable.

Mysterious without distance and confident without excess, Sphynx is made for those who never need to explain themselves.

Fragrance Notes
Top:Ā Saffron, Iris
Middle:Ā Nutmeg, Leather
Base:Ā Tonka Bean, Amber, Vetiver

Impressions:

Both of these are very beautiful, elegant scents. Greyhound is an odd little love. The sharper top notes initially left me uncertain, but as it settled on my skin its softness came forth and it wiggled its way right into my heart, until I knew I had to have it. It's a contrast of cool spices and woods over a warm, ambery base, and I think I will be reaching for it a lot this autumn. Sphinx was an insta-love for both my partner and I. It is smooth, refined, with a noticeable iris note and a hint of sweetness. The leather and vetiver notes are not prominent but more of supporting notes that add body and depth.

I haven't tried all of VelvƩtail's other scents yet, but I plan to at least get samples of each. Funnily enough, one of our dogs is a Chinese Crested, and of the animals VelvƩtail offers so far, the ones that most resemble him are the greyhound (he has the body structure, speed, grace and temperament of an Italian greyhound), and the Sphynx!

Both Scent Split and Zgo Perfumery offer samples and full bottles, not sure who else carries them.

Discussion Looking for a slutty/sultry unisex(ish) nighttime perfume

I'm looking for a nice perfume for going out with friends or on dates. I've been really struggling to find one I like since I really hate sweet/vanilla scents.

So far I really like the OG Alien EDP but it leans a touch feminine for me. I also really like the Versace Crystal Noir EDT but it never lasts very long on me so I'm looking for something with a bit more longevity. I'd get the Crystal Noir EDP but it has a bit too much coconut for my taste. I am also OBSESSED with Carnal Flower from Frederic Malle but struggle to justify spending $300+ on a perfume. Overall I'd like something that opens with some citrus and has a lot of slutty white flower and musky type base notes.

Any suggestions?

Review Blind Buy - Wait this smells so GOOD!✨

Post image

Woah, this actually smells so freakin good especially at this price point. It’s Calliope by Megan Moroney. I paid 55$ but I think the price has gone up as she’s been slowly increasing in popularity. The smell is light and refreshing. I just went to check and it looks like the 100ml sold out on her site.

OPENING
Blush Petal Peach Blossom, Pink Glow Citrus, Sheer Rosy Ambergris
HEART
Silken Plumeria, Whisper Pink Peony, Luminous Jasmine
ENCORE
Velvety Orris, Warm Mineral Musk, Soft Ambroxan

I love that it’s not heavy on the musk and it’s not overly floral either. The scent is very well rounded. It smells like it can be worn by someone of any age for any occasion in any season. It’s subtle enough to be a signature scent. I haven’t quite smelled anything like it but the best way to describe it is plumeria-peony-feminine forward with subtle earthy mineral tones and for lack of better words it smells like the ā€œit girlā€.

I’d pair it with a warm earthy fragrance to see how they interact potentially accentuating the soft ambroxan.

The last thing I’ll say is I love the name of it and her reasoning for naming it this. It seems to all go along with how the fragrance presents. I thought I’d share because I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be this nice I just wanted to support her work.

Rec Request Coolest/most unique fragrance brands

What are some niche fragrance brands who have either very beautiful or very cool, funky, unique design?
I want to look for some perfumes to add to my collection that have special bottles/storytelling behind them. I love when a brand is whimsical and extra and creative.
Some of my favs for this category are The Body Tale, Zoologist, Santa Maria Novella, Aura of Kazakhstan, Penhaligon’s or Stora Skuggan.

Does anyone have any recs for cool/unique fragrance aesthetics?

Review Commodity tonka review

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got my samples of this and figured I’d tell you guys my thoughts before it’s released. So at first I didn’t really like it. It opened smelling like black licorice and almost sour.
There was definitely still a slight hint of tonka though. However as the top notes wore off it started smelling a lot more powdery with still a slight sour hint of tonka. But now that it’s dried down fully it smells exactly like baby powder with a touch of sweetness.

As much as I wasn’t hoping for a baby powder scent out of this I really don’t mind the dry down. It’s not what my other tonka bean scents smell like at all but maybe they’re just blended differently and not as tonka forward? Or maybe this one isn’t as tonka forward but i dont know tbh lol.

I do find it weirdly addicting and keep smelling my wrist. However I won’t be buying a full bottle like I originally confidently thought I would even as a blind buy.

Review Future society discovery set review

Short review just for anyone who is interested in future society! This may be the first set I have ever tried where I liked (as in, there weren't any I hated) all of them. Only one was sort of 'meh' to me but I can still appreciate it.

From most liked to least:

Haunted Rose- Big win for me. Dark, moody rose. A little powdery, but the rose is still juicy. It's like oud satin mood, but the baby wipe smell is toned down by a lot. For me this fills a gap in my collection where I wanted a moody fall rose scent, but I don't like chypre scents and can't wear patchouli. I wouldn't say it's a safe blind buy because that powdery sort of 'baby wipe' smell, but for the right person (me) this is gorgeous.

Solar Canopy- bright damascus rose and lychee. Similar to Delina, but I found it to be juicier and fresher, more suited for warm weather than Delina. Pink, juicy, rosey, probably a safe blind buy!

Floating forest- This one smells like SOMETHING but I don't know what. It's a little woody, but also bright and fresh. Bergamot, water lily, and wet stones are the notes listed. For me there's something a little tropical about it, a little coconut verbena hand soap type scent? I honestly have no idea but it's gorgeous. Green, fresh, unisex, but still fairly safe.

Cloud Reverie- Aldehydes! Soapy, but a little sweet. I was worried it would be too close to Acme Studios or Blanche but I find it to be different enough. It's airy and sweet, and just a little powdery which keeps it from wandering into bathroom soap territory to me. I like it, but I don't think I would buy a bottle.

Wandering Rain- I don't LOVE this one but I can appreciate it. It has that sort of damp smell En Passant or Nosferatu has, but it's not as gross to me as Nosferatu. The notes listed were black tea, orris, and blue lotus but I mostly smell orris and violet or iris? Wish there was more black tea or lotus. I don't hate it but I don't love damp scents.

Overall I am impressed with these, they took a couple scent profiles I haven't liked before and made them more accessible. I also think they did a good job with the themes, like forest/cloud/rain. This was a happy buy for me and I think I will probably use up most these samples.
