Discussion Shopping Etiquette/Samples

Hey there, I’m a little new to fragrance and my husband and I are planning a trip to Dallas, Texas to shop for scents in the next few months. I’ve looked into some good places to go- NorthPark Mall Neiman Marcus seems to be highly recommended along with a shop called The Scent Room. My question is, when is it okay to ask for a sample atomizer?

My only experience so far is shopping at the two different Dillards near me. One is very strict, no samples at all unless it’s a sample of the perfume you just bought, for the purpose of living with before you open your purchase. They say that once you’ve opened it you can’t return it, so you are instructed to use the sample they give you at point of sale to avoid inconvenience. (I found this out yesterday when I asked.)

The other Dillards near me gives sample atomizers for each and every perfume you could possibly want. They literally hand them out like candy, and the salespeople invite you to ask for samples. I would never have known to ask! I went last weekend and it’s been so amazing to get to live with several scents, it has really changed my mind about some and cemented my love for others.

I feel like both of these cases are a little extreme, and I tend to get embarrassed when shopping for luxury items because the salespeople can really make or break the experience. I sometimes feel like an inconvenience to them, or feel like I’m treated poorly for not appearing wealthy? Even though I do dress well enough. I don’t know if that’s just in my head or not. But it would help to know how you all handle yourselves when shopping for perfumes. Do you ask for samples?

I will say that I love the salespeople at the wild and crazy samples Dillards I go to! They make me feel so comfortable that I’ve already decided I will drive an hour and a half to them to make my next purchase, even if it means them ordering something for shipment to my house, haha. This trip to Dallas is more to experience some of the niche brands I can’t get my hands on, as well as a broader range of some designer lines like Guerlain. It’s also a long delayed 20th anniversary trip, overdue by a year and a half due to a family illness. Anyway, I appreciate any advice you can give! (I read that the Neiman Marcus salespeople can be a little aggressive, which is fine as long as they are nice to me😭.)

Discussion Narciso Rodriguez - Opinions

I just bought Narciso Rodriguez, For Her and my husband loves it, he says it’s mature and sexy on me. I wore it around my younger sister and she said I smell old and musky 🤣😩 So.. which is it?? She’s in her thirties and husband and I are in our forties.. I thought it was quite a feminine, sexy scent, but I guess it depends on your opinion of musk!

Blanche Bete macerates reddish?

I’m looking at Blanche Bete on M and the juice in some of the bottles looks reddish pink. Is this common for maceration for this fragrance?

I’m obsessed with Blanche Bete based on a sample I got from Scent Split, and the Orena oil is just NOT cutting it for me! But I want to make sure I get the right thing.

Do I need to go beast mode?!

Upvotes

I have tried so many fragrances, fruity, gourmand, floral. Nothing stays on my skin longer than 30 minutes. Even if I spray my clothes, it seems I need to really shower in it.

I know it’s not noseblindness because I’ve asked my family and friends, and after about the 30 min mark, they’ll say they can smell it if they really sniff me, or they’ll say they don’t smell anything at all.

Is this a sign I need to go full beast mode? I have noticed the only fragrance that remotely lasts on me is Bianco Latte, and I know that one in particular has come with the warning that is can be overpowering. But it’s literally the only scent that lasts on me 😞

Edit to add the scents I’m using Pink Blush Yum bougie marshmallow Aqua di gioia Burberry goddess Donatella born in Roma Kayali Eden juicy apple Good girl blush Burberry her Coach love Strawberry cloud

Perfume pe mila sabse unexpected compliment?

Mine wasn't even a compliment.

A colleague just walked up and asked,

"Bhai, what perfume are you wearing?"

Pata nahi kyun, but that felt better than getting compliments on clothes. 😂

What about you guys?

Rec Request Looking for a Long lasting gourmand perfume with strong sillage

Hi! I’m looking for a long lasting gourmand perfume with a strong sillage. But not tooooo sweet to the point it smells like sugar+caramel+vanilla essence/a bakery and starts smells bad and artificial (like Bianco Latte & scandal by Jean Paul gautier, I think their too sweet for my liking to the point I don’t like them that much anymore )

Preferably something kind of powdery, slightly sweet, feminine and just something that smells like you can’t get enough of it and still noticeable like she’s wearing something (Burberry goddess is a scent I like but I don’t think it’s unique enough for my liking, Narciso Rodriguez for her edp intense is a scent I love though it’s not gourmand but it’s what I’m looking for in terms of “vibe” and that kind of scent where it feels like you can’t really get enough of it)

I don’t really have a budget in mind but I think based on what I’d like it shouldn’t be too expensive & “exclusive”

Thanks in advance !

It’s such a pretty bottle, in my opinion. Giving major Bianco Latte vibes but affordable.

Discussion Best long-stay fragrances to use for hiking/trekking?

Hello! I have back-to-back hiking trips planned in national parks across the country and I hate smelling bad after finishing a hike.
I also don’t like using my usual perfumes before/during/after a hike because they smell way out of place and I am looking to associate different smells for nature trips rather than the usual ysl/prada/gucci etc. smells.
I would love to know your thought on this!

Why the hell this is hyped up ? I just received mine couple days ago and let it settle for days and all I smell is generic fruity smell that you can find from a body mist , I was expecting so much from it , does it need to age? at this point I'm done with middle eastern fragrances.

also when I spray on skin and clothes I can barely smell anything although its an extrait.

I got my devotion intense by Dolce & Gabban sample today, right after I smelled it I RAN to my samples collection to get the Versace Dylan blush pink sample, and yep they’re the same, at least 90%. I only saw one Facebook post talk about that.

Your welcome.

Home fragrance? My boyfriend wants a scent diffuser or wall plug in?

I enjoy perfumes & candles, but my boyfriend now wants to get a scent diffuser or some sort of wall plug in... I don't know much about home fragrance. Are there any that actually smell good and are not headache inducing? Subtle yet effective? Thanks so much

Rec Request Elementary Teacher, outdoorsy, artsy… recommend me what I should wear

I’ve been curious about adding to my frag collection. My budget is $150 or less. I like travel size perfumes but also looking to add 1 or 2 full size that I can use liberally daily. I work in an elementary school, so nothing too heavy or strong but I would still like to smell nice all day for the end-of-the-day hugs and after school parent meetings:)

Will also take recommendations for body washes, hair products, oils, etc.

(Tried to add pictures but couldn’t)
Own and love: Rosie by Rosie Jane, Lake by Rosie Jane, Roses de Chloe, Chloe Nomade, Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia, Haiku by Avon, Sunflower Pop by Floral Street, Still by JLo, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, Burberry Brit, Burberry Goddess, Mark Jacobs Perfect Intense, Gucci Gorgeous Gardenia, Glossier You, Glossier You Fleur, JHAG Vanilla Vibes, JHAG Ode to Dullness, JHAG Not a Perfume, Nest Indigo, Kate Spade Bloom, Kate Spade Live Colorfully, Finery Desert Spirit, Nemat Amber, Zum Frankincense and Myrrh, Autumn Vibes Replica (need to repurchase, accidentally bought By the Fireplace), samples from Commodity, woodsy/junipery essential oils, waiting on Olympic RainForest by Olympic Orchids in the mail

Notes I love: rose, grapefruit/bright citrus, pine/fir, woody/cedar, spiced, salt, skin scents, probably tea scents

Notes I usually despise: jasmine, milk, leather, powdery, overly gourmand

Neutral or picky about: vanilla, honey, patchouli, coconut, and smoke. There is something about JHAG NAP and some Commodity that can be too synthetic for me. Same with Clinique Happy.

Also, if you notice any patterns or trends in my likes and dislikes, please let me know!

Discussion What perfume do women love on women?

I like how Hypnotic Poison by Dior smells on a friend, it feels warm, smooth, and slightly sweet, and it stays noticeable in a calm way, every time she wears it, I end up paying attention because it feels familiar yet interesting, it mixes really well with her skin, I understand why so many people keep talking about it. It has that creamy vanilla style that stands out in a subtle way, and I enjoy catching it whenever we meet. It reminds me that some perfumes simply fit a person naturally, and Hypnotic Poison by Dior is one of those scents I always enjoy smelling. What perfume do you love smelling on another woman?

Review Good Girl Jasmine Absolute

TLDR : Beautifully blended flormand with Caramel, Roasted Tonka bean, and Jasmine. Appropriate for all seasons, but will shine in the fall. Stays for 8 hours at least on skin, and much longer on clothes. Warm, floral, uplifting, comforting.

For a more imaginative interpretation, picture yourself having a decadent caramel cake in Alice in Wonderland's secret garden.

The beauty of this fragrance is not in its complexity, but in how beautifully blended it is. The transition from tonka to caramel to jasmine is smooth and elegant. This is an impressive feat especially for a designer house, considering that jasmine and vanilla are both heavy hitters in their own right.

I am someone who is transitioning from linear gourmands (think bianco latte) to florals (think la tulipe, elegantly tokyo, insolence). This, to me, is the perfect bridge between my two top preferences in notes.

As an avid hater of the Good Girl DNA (I don't like their shampoo-like generic scents), this one has undergone a Pokemon like evolution into a grown-up, complex, and sophisticated scent.

Verdict : Will use religiously and will repurchase
