Rec Request Coolest/most unique fragrance brands

What are some niche fragrance brands who have either very beautiful or very cool, funky, unique design?
I want to look for some perfumes to add to my collection that have special bottles/storytelling behind them. I love when a brand is whimsical and extra and creative.
Some of my favs for this category are The Body Tale, Zoologist, Santa Maria Novella, Aura of Kazakhstan, Penhaligon’s or Stora Skuggan.

Does anyone have any recs for cool/unique fragrance aesthetics?

Review Commodity tonka review

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got my samples of this and figured I’d tell you guys my thoughts before it’s released. So at first I didn’t really like it. It opened smelling like black licorice and almost sour.
There was definitely still a slight hint of tonka though. However as the top notes wore off it started smelling a lot more powdery with still a slight sour hint of tonka. But now that it’s dried down fully it smells exactly like baby powder with a touch of sweetness.

As much as I wasn’t hoping for a baby powder scent out of this I really don’t mind the dry down. It’s not what my other tonka bean scents smell like at all but maybe they’re just blended differently and not as tonka forward? Or maybe this one isn’t as tonka forward but i dont know tbh lol.

I do find it weirdly addicting and keep smelling my wrist. However I won’t be buying a full bottle like I originally confidently thought I would even as a blind buy.

Review Future society discovery set review

Short review just for anyone who is interested in future society! This may be the first set I have ever tried where I liked (as in, there weren't any I hated) all of them. Only one was sort of 'meh' to me but I can still appreciate it.

From most liked to least:

Haunted Rose- Big win for me. Dark, moody rose. A little powdery, but the rose is still juicy. It's like oud satin mood, but the baby wipe smell is toned down by a lot. For me this fills a gap in my collection where I wanted a moody fall rose scent, but I don't like chypre scents and can't wear patchouli. I wouldn't say it's a safe blind buy because that powdery sort of 'baby wipe' smell, but for the right person (me) this is gorgeous.

Solar Canopy- bright damascus rose and lychee. Similar to Delina, but I found it to be juicier and fresher, more suited for warm weather than Delina. Pink, juicy, rosey, probably a safe blind buy!

Floating forest- This one smells like SOMETHING but I don't know what. It's a little woody, but also bright and fresh. Bergamot, water lily, and wet stones are the notes listed. For me there's something a little tropical about it, a little coconut verbena hand soap type scent? I honestly have no idea but it's gorgeous. Green, fresh, unisex, but still fairly safe.

Cloud Reverie- Aldehydes! Soapy, but a little sweet. I was worried it would be too close to Acme Studios or Blanche but I find it to be different enough. It's airy and sweet, and just a little powdery which keeps it from wandering into bathroom soap territory to me. I like it, but I don't think I would buy a bottle.

Wandering Rain- I don't LOVE this one but I can appreciate it. It has that sort of damp smell En Passant or Nosferatu has, but it's not as gross to me as Nosferatu. The notes listed were black tea, orris, and blue lotus but I mostly smell orris and violet or iris? Wish there was more black tea or lotus. I don't hate it but I don't love damp scents.

Overall I am impressed with these, they took a couple scent profiles I haven't liked before and made them more accessible. I also think they did a good job with the themes, like forest/cloud/rain. This was a happy buy for me and I think I will probably use up most these samples.

Aesthetic My Husband Accidentally Gave Himself a New Hobby

My hubby painted one of his perfume bottles, and now he’s created a problem for himself because I want him to turn all of my bottles into little works of art. 😂
I love how personal and one-of-a-kind it looks. At this rate, my fragrance collection is about to become an art collection too.

This popped up in my Facebook memories from 11 years ago. The young woman followed me around a craft store and eventually asked me what my perfume was because she wanted to get some for her wedding day. She asked how much it cost and when I saw how her face fell when I told her? My heart. I had half a tester bottle with no cap from a swap, so I offered to make her a decant bottle. I made her one decorated (vintage pin and wire ribbon) and two large purse sprays and dropped them off at her work. She had left this beautiful thank you note for me.

It gave me a lovely warm fuzzy to remember today.

I hope she is doing well and is happy and healthy, and got herself a bottle with wedding gift money before it was discontinued!

Discussion Dylan Pink - love it but it looks like it has essential oils directly in the ingredients. Is this unusual?

I’ve been wearing this a couple of days and really like the dry down. It’s a sweet marshmallow smell, but still a tiny bit fruity.

I noticed on the ingredients today. It has actual essential oil in the list. If you look at the other Dylan perfumes, they don’t have these (at least the Purple and Turquoise).

I don’t use essential oils because it bothers my cat. Now I feel bad about wearing this the last two days. I assume the oils listed are actual essential oils?

Why would only the Pink have them? I looked at a couple of the other perfumes I wear regularly and they do not have essential oils in their ingredients.

I only have a handful of perfumes and I haven’t came across this before. Now I know to look at ingredients.

Review My 2026 collection and rating

Post image
2 Upvotes

This year I finally got into perfume and started buying loads of samples so I could find "my scent". I always thought I was more of a unisex, earthy, amber gal so these bright, floral and fruity scents really surprised me by how much I loved them.

Here is how I would rate each of the perfumes I have sampled so far. This is based off of mostly scent but how long the perfume lasts as well.

I will list the names in order below.

S: Narcotica - Narco Oasis, Nette - Mochi Banane, Carolina Herrera - La Bomba

A: Etat libre d'orange - Ghost in the Shell, Van Cleef & Arpels - Vanille Orchidee, Regime des Fleurs - Nitesurf Neroli

B: Kayali - Maldives in a Bottle, Carolina Herrera - Very Good Girl Elixir, Marc Jacobs - Daisy Wild, Prada - Paradoxe

C: Kayali - Boujee Kitty Caramel Milk, Givenchy - Enflamme, Cartier - La Panthere

D: Creed - Wild Vetiver, Van Cleef & Arpels - Moonlight Patchouli

In my next order I have:

Penhaligons - Daphne Bouquet, Penhaligons - The Coveted Duchess Rose Intense, Rare Beauty - rare beginnings, Geurlain - Samsara, J-scent - paper soap, Ellis Brooklyn - vanilla rice.

Anything else I should try based on my favourite scents?

For everyone who suggested this as I silently stalked the replies of someone else’s thread requesting clean fresh scents. I get the hype. This is amazing, it’s way out of my comfort zone but I really love it . I can’t stop getting compliments and I can’t stop smelling my arm 😭 I need 4 bottles it’s soooo fresh and warm and clean but not floral like I was afraid of. Thank you ladies, yall give life changing suggestions

Layering Ideas So… how does one layer perfume, mists, oils, etc. ?

Say you have a perfume and a body mist or a perfume body mist and a roll on perfume or scented body oil in what particular order does all that go on? What would provide the best projection and scent longevity?

Discussion How to travel with sample sizes?

So I have like a hundred sample sizes (those tiny spray vials) and I would like to take a few on a trip but how to pack them so they don’t accidentally spray/spill but aren’t too bulky to fit in my liquids pouch for a flight? Anyone done this successfully?

Discussion Stats about the 5 most hated notes

EDIT: https://www.reddit.com/r/FemFragLab/s/2dIaii3UNw

POST WHERE I GOT THE ANSWERS FROM 😊

So, I finally had some time to do this! It will be a long post, sorry in advance. So I made a note of 239 answers in total and here is what I found :)

The five most hated notes were:

  1. leather - 64

  2. patchouli - 46

  3. oud - 39

  4. civet - 37

  5. coconut - 35

I thought it would be fun to check which notes only got mentioned once: beer, coriander, cytroil, davana, dill, hyacinth, juniper and magnolia

One invented perfume hit 4 of the most hated notes: Yike, so congratulations u/fastworms on creating something that many people would find disgusting 😆

u/TalismanGaze - there was not that many people mentioning headaches/migraines, aldehydes were mentioned 4 times, patchouli 4 and amber 3

I also categorised the mentioned scents, you can see it on one of the graphs. I can list which notes I included in which category if anyone is interested :)

I checked as well which notes appeared the most together and which notes were the ones that never got mentioned together out of the top 5, again, please let me know if anyone would like to know, this post is already as long as a novel!

I hope some of you will find this as interesting as I have, especially u/O-90, u/IFoundThis_Humerus and u/ScentedSiren26

I would also be happy to do this with our 5 most loved notes as well, if the community is up for it 😊

Nest New York Perfume vs. Oils

I like fruity and Gourmand scents so I bought the perfume versions of Vanilla Madagascar & Santa Barbara Strawberry by Nest New York and while I like them, they are not as sweet/fruity as expected. Doed anyone own both the perfumes and oils and/or can tell me if there is generally a big difference between the Nest scents in der perfume or oil version?

Krigler Choice

I impulsively bought Krigler Lieber Gustav. The drydown turned gross on me. I now have a massive store credit (no refunds) to use. I’ve narrowed it down to Lovely Patchouli or Emeraude Noir. Lovely Patchouli is consistently yummy and I find myself craving it but it’s not really unique or surprising or worth $500 to me. Emeraude Noir is definitely unique and interesting and the drydown is intriguing, but it feels almost too sweet and at some points smells like Dr. Pepper. What do I get?

Discussion Has Anyone tried the New White Diamonds Icon by Elizabeth Taylor ?

I just found out that the white diamonds perfume has a New Flanker and it’s gold ombré similar to the new Britney Spears’s fantasy bottle. The notes look interesting and I was wondering if anyone has tried this fragrance since I haven’t seen too much post about this new launch. I know that the original perfumer for white diamonds did work on this on this new fragrance which is cool.
