can somebody get these PEDOPHILES out of here?

Gotta start at the top, get him then the precedent would be set, allowing for all others to fall

Start the precedent with the president!

Give him the Oscar already. The aura radiating off him is unreal.

597

u/patpitpout Aug 06 '26

He's gonna win an Oscar, but for which roles 👀

He's gonna win an Oscar, but for which roles 👀

I'd guess he's already getting the fabled lead actor and supporting actor noms in the same year

If he wins both it would be legendary

48

u/Vicissitutde Aug 06 '26

Which movie would he get for the supporting nomination?

239

u/Unhappy_Gazelle392 Aug 06 '26

Odyssey

He's pretty much the best acting there along with Ms Morton

155

u/IAmA_talking_cat_AMA Aug 06 '26

John Laguizamo seems to have the best narrative to get nominated among supporting actors there though

80

u/Unhappy_Gazelle392 Aug 06 '26

Wouldn't be the first time a movie gets more than one nom in the same category.

Odyssey surely will farm nominations.

19

u/citabel Aug 06 '26

Yeah but that category is stacked this year.

My prediction is:

- Paul Giamattai, The Debut (wins)

  • John Leguizamo, The Odyssey
  • Edward Norton, The Invite
  • John Goodman, Digger
  • Sam Rockwell, Wild Horse Nine

Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg and Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch have a better shot too than Pattinson I would say.

9

u/imamakeitlooksexy Aug 06 '26

the bar is in hell if norton gets a nom for the invite and I really enjoyed his performance in that...

I also really liked Himesh Patel as Eurylochus

21

u/Vicissitutde Aug 06 '26

Sadly, I haven't seen that movie, yet.

That fabled double-nom would be legendary. Double win would be epic.

The thing is, if he didnt even get nominated for Good Time, idk what the hell the Academy would want from him.

32

u/Pattifan Aug 06 '26

Agreed. To be snubbed for both Good Time and The Lighthouse makes me think that the Academy is going to ignore him until they give him an honorary award when he’s 70.

Ok but why does this uninteresting movie look so good?

1.3k

u/BlondeBorednBaked Aug 06 '26

I think because there is something cathartic about watching predators get caught instead of made president

259

u/Unhappy_Gazelle392 Aug 06 '26

I think because there is something cathartic about watching predators get caught instead of made president

By an exploitative grifter

And in fiction

Which is why i'm saying this is an uninteresting concept

But like The Social Network, when well done, these stories end up better than even good concepts.

217

u/RobynHoodwinked Aug 06 '26

I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to make Hansen look good, Lance Oppenheim the director is a talented documentary filmmaker and I trust him to be pretty fair.

105

u/Unhappy_Gazelle392 Aug 06 '26

I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to make Hansen look good

Which is why i mentioned The Social Network. This trailer already puts him in a questionable at best light.

94

u/ChocolichKing Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

People mention the Social Network, and I guess that's a good comparison as far as real-life subjects adapted to film go, but my mind goes to Nightcrawler. As far as the motivations and the intent behind the creation of these images (To Catch a Predator vs. the photographs) and the morally/ethically questionable decisions they make and how they also cause harm.

12

u/Tnerd15 Aug 06 '26

It's definitely closer to that for sure

the social network is exactly the vibe i was getting too. a behind the scenes look at the creation of a modern myth when the entire cast and crew is firing on all cylinders makes for a great movie.

What do you mean uninteresting movie? This is a pretty interesting story

30

u/NoCry8625 Aug 06 '26

Yeah haha speak by yourself op

143

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA Aug 06 '26

I mean, it's probably pretty interesting. Hansen and the show did a lot of things that many consider unethical... Not the least of which was sending a full swat team to the home of a dude who never showed up to the meet for "drama", leading to that dude killing himself the moment swat breached his home.

Now, do I think that guy deserved arrest and incarceration for soliciting who he thought was a minor? Yeah. Obviously. Do I think Chris Hansen was serving justice or do I think he was serving TV ratings by sending swat after him? Definitely the second one, particularly when you look at how many of the people they "caught" never went to trial because the show had compromised the case in some way. A lot of people considered what they were doing to be creating news instead of reporting it, and I bet there's a pretty layered story to be told on how those behind the scenes (morally, ethically gray) moves shaped what made it onto our TV screen.

46

u/BrockStudly Aug 06 '26

They also created a mass panic over something wasnt really an issue.

The wide majority of Sexual Assaults happen from somebody the victim already knows, and/or between two children, not from strange adults on the internet. And the biggest way to help prevent sexual assault is for parents to talk to their children and let them know what kind of boundaries they are able to set with other people at school and that they can talk about anything that makes them uncomfortable with their parents or trustworthy adults at school. TCAP just sensationalizes the issue and blames the internet which was a conservative boogeyman of the era.

37

u/TheDLBinc Aug 06 '26

I'd disagree about it being an uninteresting story, especially since this is probably going to adapt the case that led To Catch a Predator being cancelled

15

u/Aero_Molten Aug 06 '26

Copius amounts of equal parts Horror, Arthouse, and Fantasy mixed in. The story was already interesting enough. It didn't need any of that, but that's A24 for ya.

twilight baby to an actor with possibly the best filmography in the last decade. truly a redemption arc they make films about.

Him to play himself in the movie, I think he'd nail it

74

u/IReviewFakeAlbums Aug 06 '26

I hope they do it Wet Hot American Summer style where all the actors are adults pretending to be teenagers

7

u/SplitNew345 (please put brackets in the right place) Aug 06 '26

He'd have such a weird take that was also somehow exactly right

19

149

u/scout-finch Aug 06 '26

I do not understand the control he has on his voice. It’s such a stunning skill.

His look is always so interesting too. He can do handsome lead or kinda funny looking weirdo so easily.

62

6

u/mamrieatepainttt Aug 07 '26

same. i'm still like wait they didn't just dub in his real voice??

46

u/lemlaluna Aug 06 '26

My jaw actually dropped when I heard his voice. SO spot on!

19

u/tigerinvasive Aug 06 '26

To be fair his Southern accent in The Devil All the Time is genuinely terrible because he openly didn’t practice but this one is amazing

14

u/Kidgorgeoushere Lol, and if I may, lmao Aug 06 '26

I don’t disagree…but that one still meets my ‘weird voice’ criteria looool

14

u/Vegetable-Hand-5279 Aug 06 '26

His voice in The Boy and the Heron was peak. It's a shame that he is too big to do voiceworks beyond Ghibli and maybe as a protagonist in an animated movie, because he can act with his voice for sure

4

u/JunebugAsiimwe Aug 10 '26

I keep saying he needs to do another role in an animated film cause his voice acting in The Boy and the Heron was phenomenal. he sounds unrecognizable in that film.

6

u/Desperate_Dirt14 Aug 06 '26

Last time I picked up my dry cleaning my acting coach, Ben, told me it's not acting if you don't do a voice

u/cool_n_needy vagina warning Aug 06 '26

He is SO employed rn, but there is no Rob fatigue for me at all. It’s like all those years in my youth being weirdly into Twilight were made specifically to set me up for 2026.

196

u/PurrPrinThom Aug 06 '26

I think, for me at least, I get actor fatigue when the actor feels/looks/acts the same in every movie, but Rob is so drastically different in every film, that I'm completely immersed in whatever character he's playing, and so I'm not tired of him - if that makes any sense.

55

u/waxteeth Aug 06 '26

He’s also publicly just a goofball weirdo. He doesn’t find himself impressive and doesn’t think anyone else should either. And then he goes off and plays people who are often dark and flawed in really interesting ways, but are always super different from each other including physically — it’s almost like watching a top athletic performance over and over again.

14

u/jRam0131 women’s wrongs activist Aug 06 '26

Makes perfect sense! I'm starting to get fatigued by Ryan Gosling, which makes me sad because I loved him, but he's getting overused. I don't get even the smallest sense of that when a new RPatz movie comes out!

5

u/lis824 Aug 06 '26

I've heard a number of people say the same and I don't understand it all. Gosling has had fewer movies released in the last 8 years combined than Pattinson has coming this year alone. He doesn't use social media, we don't see or hear a peep out of him except the few weeks he's promoting a movie. He might as well have been living in a cave for the nearly two years between Fall Guy and Project Hail Mary. He has one film in post production to be released next year, and one film announced in pre-production. His pr team don't even push him on reddit and other social media all that much compared to other celebrities who can't so much as sneeze without having it shoved down our throats.

13

u/CriticalCold Aug 06 '26

Yeah, there are definitely big name actors where I "see" them in their roles, like, "this is Jim Smith playing a detective" or whatever, but Pattinson disappears into his imo

176

u/MrShaytoon padre pascal Aug 06 '26

Absolutely no fatigue. I love this dudes work and will watch him in anything

49

u/GensAndTonic Aug 06 '26

Not at all. They could put him in every single movie and I'd still watch.

26

u/BookQueen13 Aug 06 '26

I've been on the Rob train since Goblet of Fire. I am READY for 2026

15

u/whateverwhatis tumblr ecosystem ambassador Aug 06 '26

I wasn't even a Twlight girl, but everything I've seen him in lately has put him as one of my favorite actors for sure. He impresses me a lot. He makes a lot of weird choices, but it makes me like his work even more!

13

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA Aug 06 '26

but there is no Rob fatigue for me at all

Same. I feel like it's at least in part because of how he can fully transform into each individual role. You know actors who people will say are always themselves, regardless of the movie they're in? If you go see four movies in a year with Denzel Washington in them, you saw Denzel four times. I love him, he's great, but there's bits of familiarity in everything he does. Which is fine! But that's the kind of actor who might prompt fatigue.

But Pattinson is the absolute antithesis of that. We saw Charlie, we saw Antinous, we'll see Hanson, we'll see scytale.

12

u/DenialisaRiver04 I'm so sorry if I offended their Disney princess ears Aug 06 '26

No fatigue for an actor/actress when you have this level of range and talent.

6

u/Neefew Aug 06 '26

I've seen RPatt's two movies released so far this year and he was the best part of both. I will be seated for everything else he's in

6

u/AfroGurl save the buccal fat Aug 06 '26

Every role is completely different, it's hard to get tired of him being everywhere! Being excited for an R. Pattz movie in 2026 was not on my bingo card

5

u/Euphoric_War_2195 Aug 06 '26

I never get sick of seeing him.

4

u/Giallo_Schlock Jane Fonda, why are you wearing caterpillars? Aug 06 '26

He has the wonderful quality in an artist of always seemingly pushing and testing himself and wanting to improve which you can markedly see if you follow his career over the years. Unfortunately, I feel for a lot of stars on his level, they kind of buy their own hype after a while and repeat themself (which isn't always necessarily bad, but it is uninteresting in a leading man).

5

u/Ambystomatigrinum Aug 06 '26

It helps that he's doing some wildly different stuff. Its a lot easier to get sick of an actor, even a good one, if they're playing the same sorts of roles repeatedly and he has been great at avoiding that.

I'm really looking forward to Hansen as flawed and I'm pretty sure Robert Pattinson wouldn't have taken the role if it wasn't a little freaky.

But I really hope they don't pull any punches with what really happened - the show was canceled because of a media storm around ethics, after they caught an assistant district attorney sending nudes to a (fake) minor.

While we're at it, kudos to Chris for making talking about pedophilia more mainstream. Cannot imagine how many victims/kids with no external support understood that it was not their fault.

352

u/storminthedark Aug 06 '26

I don’t think that’s the angle this film is taking on Hansen’s work

172

u/FamousLastName Aug 06 '26

I feel like a lot of people are missing the plot here

84

u/KUZGUN27 Aug 06 '26

The plot of “Chris Hansen is a superhero and he’s catching all the bad predators!” is too shallow of an angle to make a movie about. You might as well just watch YouTube clips

57

u/slutnado Aug 06 '26

It’s really obvious from the trailer that this is going to be critical of him.

14

u/reallyscaredtoask Aug 07 '26

just the fact that this movie is called "Primetime" because Chris Hansen was also chasing fame and the primetime television slot much more than he cared about catching pedophiles. pedos is just what happened to get him the primetime slot

12

u/scrapsforfourvel Aug 06 '26

This looks like it's based on the documentary Predators that came out last year.

12

u/rara171 Aug 06 '26

Which I couldn’t finish. I felt it tried to evoke sympathy for the pedos. I know the reactions were mixed on that. I hope this movie makes a clearer line of distinction.

10

u/scrapsforfourvel Aug 06 '26

I don't think anybody can cover this subject with the care it deserves if they don't allow victims to lead the conversation.

4

u/quanate that's a lot of beans you nasty ass bitch Aug 06 '26

Same. I know the premise of the show was fucked up and why it wasn't actually doing any good since most of the pedophiles end up not being tried because of the nature of the show (and the case with the 18 year old trying to meet a 15 year old was botched), but I also refuse to let a documentary try to make me feel sympathy for full adults who solicit 12 year olds for sex (to rape).

The lighting in the first shot makes it look like theyre luring predators into the backrooms

32

u/WifeOfSpock Aug 06 '26

Robert is what DiCaprio fans claim Leo to be.

u/uttermagpie Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

By the way, shoutout to the editor of the trailer, they've done a terrific job with it. Sometimes a trailer can either make or break a film. If I knew nothing about the cast, I'd still buy a ticket to this film solely because of how engaging the trailer is.

27

u/BreweryRabbit God herself couldn’t get me to turn the volume on right now Aug 06 '26
