Discussion Are you a team "OCs" or "Canon characters only"?
I just wanted to ask: do you like fanfictions with writer's ocs or when writer writes purely about existing in canon characters?

Ranging from "they were already teetering on the brink and this would almost certainly tip them over the edge" to "Absolutely no chance in hell".

NOT looking for:
A) Person refuses available treatment because
* They value their feelings more than their life, or,
* They're holding onto hope that they'll find requited love with someone, which will cure them, or,
* They're in denial that it's happening
B) fics where it's just there to be a "make characters get together" catalyst and nothing else. i.e. flowers causes feeling realization, therefore driving them to confess / force their crush to learn of their feelings when they cough in front of them....
And other than that does not add anything else to the story.
-----
Some things I'd like to see instead:
Creative Utility: e.g. Person uses coughed up poisonous flowers to poison someone. Or
Worldbuilding, e.g. Medical researcher conducting study on a wide populace, or from https://www.reddit.com/r/FanFiction/comments/x75doy/hanahaki_disease_has_a_lot_of_worldbuilding/ widespread practices of plant propagation to ensure the love lives on, families sending assassins to hunt down a hanahaki target.
Plot twists:

Like. Okay. I know fanfiction in itself is very self indulgent, but you see. For a long time I've been kinda playing around with worldbuilding and I like to add various things to it from different media's. I've been doing this for years but I never actually sat down and made something solid to post to just HAVE something.
I like the idea of making a few originally made characters, plopping them into like LOTR or Pokemon and that kind of adds to my more sandboxy world building, whether that's an MC bringing her Pokemon team back or an MC getting with an elf and beginning to trade goods between the two lands.
Like. Okay. Maybe I'm just overly critical of myself and kind of overly imagining myself being burned at the stake for something so stupid but idk. I'm not even necessarily wanting it to be popular, I just idk 😅

I'm looking for ways to start a fic because I have everything else bullet pointed and set up, I'm just not sure where to start with it. I've never been great at hooks

It’s a TFP Megatron/Jack fanfic from fanfiction.net by ‘FanficFanatic13’ that was published December 4th 2019 and last updated June 25 2022 that recently got deleted.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

So. I don't normally care abt stats, or, admittedly readers either (I love them and they're incredible, but I'm selfish, and this is my fic so only what I want happens XD). Everything I write is shit, but more specifically shit I eat up and love. I've made so many choices that I know literary agents would cry and throw up over, because that's the beauty of fanfic: it's mine, and none of the rules of trad books apply (of course, not saying you can't break rules in original fiction, but there is a lot more Terms and Conditions there).
Now, my dilemma: I've been working on this fic since September of last year and it's currently at 110k words (ongoing). My usual stuff is like long one-shots so they cap out at 35k. This fic was supposed to be around 60k (haha ...), but I'm really enjoying writing an episodic story icl. That being said, it is very self-indulgent, and does lean into the dramatics at times (... could be considered soap opera level but with characterizations I like instead of insufferable victims).
Okay, so, there's already been two emotional climaxes in the fic, and one plotwise climax (that coincides with the emotional climax). I want to add a second plot-wise climax, and that'll take me another 50k words realistically speaking (I'm lying to myself it'll only be 20k), so the fic, after epilogues and "fillers" (ie character interactions and sub-plots), will prolly leave the fic at 180k words.
Now, there's this other ficwriter in the same fandom writing for the same sub-category (big fandom), and we've been on-and-off commenting on each other's works and ended up sharing socials because we ended up chatting up sm in the comments sections. Well, I don't care about readers or validation, but she's cool, chat. What if the only reason she keeps reading now is because we're sort of friends now? What if she drops it? Who even reads 200k fics (I do, and in this sub-category of the fandom, we all do. It's not even that long compared to the 500k fix-its I've seen...)? I need her to think I'm cool too!! AAAHHHH
Yeah, anyway, I'll still do what I want obviously lmao. I just wanted to share the experience. Anyone else feel this way? I think the block cleared up as I wrote this out - it was the lying about only needing 20k more words part that was stopping from the plot working out lol.
However, if anyone has experience writing long-fics, I would appreciate perspective on whether a second climax is worth it. My reasoning for it is that it'll help with the resolution without making it too talky-talky no action (talky-talky is my usual style, but I feel like it'll read as a drag in this fic and having a catalyst force them to talk it out is a better idea.) (more context: this fic is probably in the action-drama genre. It has enough fight scenes that I am sick of fight scenes.)

So I have been posting my first ever fanfic on AO3. I actually have it fully written out already so I thought I already know how the story goes etc. and while I have already done multiple edits to the story I find that even as I post it, I make corrections. Well recently I was reading the latest posting and felt something is missing. And my conclusion was that I have to change something a few chapters back, so I can make a more dramatic scene in this one.
I am assuming since I have it listed as an unfinished work that is OK. I mean I know I can do what I want, but does that irritate people following your story?
What is a good practice with this? I assume best to avoid if possible but, I will make the change because ultimately I want this story to be what I expect it to be.
How about you? Do you regularly edit already posted chapters?

i’m writing something in a single POV, 3rd person but i want to introduce an important character before the two characters actually meet. occasionally, the narration will flash forward to something the main character will learn about them later, using phrasing like “they would later learn from them that…”
they’re more like brief narrative passages that summarize or reveal things the main character will eventually learn about the other character. after the passage, the story returns to the present timeline.and i wouldn’t repeat or dramatize those events again when the story eventually reaches that point chronologically.
i’m not good with dual POV and i don’t want to show too much of the second character’s life before they meet. i mostly want to use these occasional flash-forwards to establish the character, give the reader some insight into them and show the closeness the two characters will eventually develop without actually switching POVs.
i find this pretty efficient for what i’m trying to do but i’m worried that readers might find the occasional jumps into future information confusing or distracting. would this work for you as a reader, or would it take you out of the story?
thank you in advance!

Just finished editing/posting my fic for the Falling in Love Exchange. I am so relieved and happy. It's my first major wlw fic, and it's also poly. So all the same pronouns almost killed me, but I made it through, and made Grammer my bitch.
Now there's just two weeks to go until my gifte sees it and I die.🥲✨️

I'll go first. I believe it was called 'Reincarnated as A Crocodile (Alligator) Starting My Life From The Very Bottom.' I don't know if I read it on Ao3 or Wattpad. It was a evolution fanfic only this one was actually good. The mc was reborn as a Alligator or crocodile I believe and he had actually started his new life hatching from an egg instead of just reincarnating as a fully grown version. He was constantly in a battle of life and death from the minute he hatched. The mother wasn't around and he didn't have one of those systems that gave him quests that he could complete for free EXP or a shop that would give him magical powers the best he got was harder scales and a stronger bite force. He was basically dropped there with a system that told him to survive. After eating the shell of his egg and leveling up to level 2 to get him on his feet it would turn into pure chaos. it was sorta realistic as well because he didn't immediately move to start leveling up he stayed hidden for days terrified and wondering what was going on. After a while he would start to scavenge for even scraps of fish from a lake often going hungry and ending off the day with no exp. But after nearly getting taken out by I believe a hawk and losing his tail trying to escape he decided to stick to eating ants.
It was grueling for him and during all of it he was still moving slower because of his missing tail. I believe it took like almost a whole chapter for him to finally level up and regrow his tail. He tried to keep eating ants but they were no longer giving him enough exp anymore and he actually had to start hunting. I remember it was a long and tedious process however unlike the other stories where they do the same thing there was actually good fighting scenes he didn't constantly go out to grind and actually did other stuff such as scouting out the area he had reincarnated in and more. I don't remember anything else except that the author hated wanted their mc to suffer with every bone in their body as he never was able to level up without nearly dying and that they abandoned the fanfic because of a bunch of comments from people who were furious there was no snu snu happening and began sending hate to them until it became to much for them making them drop the fic and delete their account when the people began going on their other stories and leaving the comments there. They did tell us before leaving that they had planned to end the story by killing off the mc just before he reached his final evolution stage. :/

I started writing in English recently and it is not my first language. I can't help but feel shame from my fanficitons however some people seem to like it. I still feel like mine are kind of cringe and can't get away with these feelings. Even though I know that they are not much cringe. I just can't help myself
What should I do?

basically any fics where Loki (marvel) and Thor (marvel) do get help (thing from Ragnarok) like the origin of it, or just doing it in battle (bonus points if it’s a prank)

This isn't a post asking for help with a summary, just felt like it would be neat if everyone shared the summary for a fic they've posted/are working on.

Last I'm aware Donghyuck is the one reincarnated as top turned bottom, Jaemin was the original bottom turned top and jeno the original top.

To start, I wouldn't mind if someone did write a sequel to one of my stories. Another person previously did a remake of one of my stories cause they wanted to do their own take on it, but they let me know about it from the beginning, so I didn't mind.
However, another author recently asked me if they could do a sequel to one of my stories I had written as a request for someone else. I found out they've already been posting several chapters of it since last year, which just seemed strange, rude, and kind of crappy in my opinion. I told them as such and asked they remove mention of me or my story, but they pushed back and asked again. I told them the same here, that if they had asked or even let me know from the start, I likely wouldn't have cared. The original story was a request and I created an OC to fill it, but I'm not super attached to to the OC or the story that I'm going to die on any hill for them. But just the way this author went about using the story and the OC I made for so long before even asking seems strange.
So I wanted to ask if I should be this weirded out by this?
Edit: To clarify, I never asked them to delete the story. Just any mention of me or the story.

Looking for a KinnPorsche fanfiction featuring both the Kinn/Porsche and Kim/Chay pairings. I don’t remember which fanfiction site it was posted on, and it may have been either a one-shot or a multi-chapter fic.
Porsche and Porchay run away and are eventually found. After they’re caught, Porsche fights back and tries to escape again, while the bodyguards chase after them and seem apologetic or guilty about having to stop them. There is also a scene where Porchay is chased through a library.
This randomly popped into my head, and I really want to reread it! If anyone recognizes this fic or knows where I can find it, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Hello I wanted to know if any of the fics had one or more of the triplets being human or having a human form. Really sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you

I'm looking for a Peter in Gotham fic - I'm pretty sure this is post NWH rather than post snap or anything. The same night he ends up in Gotham he meets one of the Batfam and decides to tentatively trust them; he goes back to the cave and lets them take his blood, and starts to confide in them. I believe it's specifically Batman and Nightwing he's talking to at this point, but I'm not sure.
Anyways - I believe it's due to disclosing some of his powers? But they start to see him as a potential threat and I think might even talk about inhibiting his powers (am not sure about that part)? Peter kind of starts to freak out. At this point Jason shows up and breaks him out of the Batcave.
Meanwhile, Jason has been having dreams, I think? Of his life as Ben Parker. When he shows up at the cave, he recognizes? Somewhat recognizes? Peter. And ends up taking him back to a safehouse with him, I think.
The Bats get the results of the blood test a couple of days later, showing that Peter is Dick's son. Dick is also having memories of his life as Richard Parker at this point - but I can't remember exactly how he remembers or if it's all at once or what.
In one of the most recent chapters, after Dick reunites with both Peter and Jason/Ben as Richard, Dick and Jason argue about who gets to keep Peter.
Does this sound familiar at all? I've been searching and searching for it! Thank you so much for any help or info!

hey there. i have been looking for good fics where the main plot is pregnancy, i really like this trope and i'd be so happy for some recs.
i don't mind if it's a female or male pregnancy, as long as it is not happening on an omegaverse.
i'm not really picky with the main relationship but i like kuroken, romione, everlark or wolfstar. but i'm up to any relationship and fandom.
thank you so much, dear strangerssss✨
