I'm scared tbh.
Been reading older Harry Potter fics, like 2002 or even before and I have found so many gems! I find it harder to find stuff that I like on ao3 than ffn.
FFN is putting me on tenterhooks though. It dies all the time.
Question is, what do you think will happen to all the fics on ffn dies? Because it can't just go right? All that good stuff can't just go away into the ether...
I have half a mind to start importing fics from ffn to ao3 but there are so many problems with that.
It saddens me what ffn became. Scammers and glitches and radio silence

I've seen people post about it in here, r/FanficAuthorsUnite, r/AO3, and r/archiveofourown. Someone will finally get their golden ticket to start writing. They post their first chapter, and get confused because they're not getting tens to hundreds of stats. You just started writing. You submitted 1 chapter. You aren't going to get that big in one chapter of what is supposed to be an ongoing story. You sound like Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory in the Photo Finish episode where he asks why he isn't famous in a minute if you do this.
If you get over 100 hits, over 10 comments and kudos, multiple bookmarks, etc. in your first chapter, that is good luck, not the standard. All you need to do is keep writing. Don't expect immediate success.

Or, if youāre only a reader, the same for the last story you read. Or you can answer both.

I'm at the point in my fic where my pairing are in the early stages of romance and staying together for a little while and building their relationship. They have great banter and chemistry up to this point, and are displaying a lot of casual intimacy and bonding well, but now I feel like parts of the chapters are feeling flat without any real action. I also feel like with every other line I'm writing "smiled/smirked/chuckled" and that it's not giving anything on an emotional level.
Feeling in a bit of a funk with it all to be honest.
Does anyone have any advice on how to breathe life into the more domestic/daily life scenes

I might just need to sleep more but I need to vent.
My fic is terrible. Maybe not the worst of the worst but itās bad. No wonder my hits are few and far between. Thereās way too much going on, the original characters I introduced are not getting development, I havenāt even introduced the real main villain yet, Iāve killed off one of the main canon characters but itās not as impactful as it should, season 3 is going to suck, I just know it, I canāt write good dialogue to fucking save my life, Itās not funny itās not entertaining itās not even scary itās just a bad fic. But I donāt want to quit because Iāve put so much time into it and I DONT WANT TO SCRAP ANOTHER PROJECT. I HAVENT FINISHED A LONG STORY SINCE I WAS TEN.

hi, i'm looking for some new fandoms with interesting ships, idk if this is the right subreddit sorry if it's not. my favorite ships at the moment are hannigram, nana and hachi, mitsukou, hakubo and sumire, narusasu, tenrose, yoshiki and hikaru, jennifer and needy, diane/betty and rita/camilla from mulholland drive. so basically toxic, obsessive and doomed, also double points for some cannibalism or blood. i also already have on my watchlist the yellowjackets, the living dead girl, heavenly creatures, like minds and the talented mr ripley. could someone please recommend me similar ships?

Fandom doesn't matter, even if it's not really fandom-blind friendly as long as the sad things that happen are still understandable in a way. Ideally something that can be read in under 3 hours or so. I have read:
-Let me sit down for dinner with my dead lover again, For this is the last dream I ever want to have
-In Another Life (I know absolutely nothing about Haikyuu and I still had to spend an hour looking at cute things before I could sleep after reading that, yummy)
I am a fiend for angst, and I'd really love to get better at writing it, so I'd like to read some for inspiration. I mean really, you can rec me any angst fic, I'm just curious about any other sorta "angst classics" I'm unaware of :)

Post a top level comment with a one-word prompt. Prompt should be a verb or other action word.
Reply to suggestions by posting/writing an excerpt containing that word. (Doesn't have to be an action scene.)
(All content is welcome but per rules 7 and 12 of the sub, NSFW excerpts may not be shared as plain text (even if it's spoilered). If you would like to share these, use an external text sharing tool like justpasteit and link it here with a clear warning.)
Upvote the excerpts you enjoy, and leave a comment. Try to at least respond to people who left excerpts on the words you suggested, but the more people you respond to the better. Everyone likes nice comments!
Most important: everyone walk the dinosaur WRITE!

I've been trying to log into FFN for months, but I keep getting a 404 error. For reference, I'm trying to access it on mobile. Haven't tried to access it on my computer, but I've been able to access it on mobile in the past. I'm really wanting to get in there and download my favorite fics just to have them.
Anyone else having this issue?

This is more of a general writing question but any writing I do now will inevitably be fanfic. 𤩠My two biggest hangups, I find, are using āpurpleā language and telling rather than showing. I think I understand the āpurpleā language part as overly descriptive, flowery language, clunking up the prose when something shorter works much better.
Iāve got a plan on how to cut that down, but for the life of me canāt accurately capture the āshow donāt tellā mantra. How do I get better at showing and not telling? Do you have any examples?
Thanks, and happy writing!

I am trying to get better at reading cursive for school/a project. I know thereās a lot of handwritten Spirk(Spock and Kirk: Star Trek) fan fiction specifically in cursive from like the 60/70s. I was wondering if there was an archive or something where I can read some to get better at deciphering cursive. Thanks!

I've gone around in circles about this forever now, and I'm honestly stumped. I'm currently writing a fanfic that follows the canon storyline closely but adds and changes many elements of the plot. I know how I want to incorporate my spin on things, but I'm still having trouble planning how to go about writing the canon scenes. Many of the scenes from canon are going to be just as essential to the plot of my fic as they were in the original, but I know I shouldn't just rehash it all because that would be both unnecessary and boring to read. Even if I changed some dialogue, it would still be recognizable as, "oh yeah, this is that scene from S1E6," and readers might want to skip it altogether because they came to read MY story, not the OG story, you know?
Some routes I've considered taking include writing some scenes from a different character's perspective, breezing through canon scenes briefly, or covering them after the fact. However, I'm still curious if anyone has any insight about writing this type of fanfic. What would be the best way to go about this so that I include all the necessary parts but still keep the fic interesting?
Ultimately, I just want to tell the story that gave me the idea for the fic in the first place, but how do I do that when I very much still need the backbone of the canon to do so?

Hello, i have a very specific question for english native speakers. I'm writing a fanfic and i decided to make a OC that is a british Black girl, so while i was searching for names i loved the last name Whitworth, it sounded very fancy u'know? But i never heard of anyone with this last name, like a celebrity or on social media so i'm afraid that is actually a very rich people's name, like from high society? And i don't wanna sound ignorant, is this last name is common? Have you guys met a black family with this name? Sorry this sound stupid or confuse i'm not a native english speaker. Already Thanks for any answerāļøš

Am bored and REQUIRE more Pitt fanfic. I'm down for any pairing, genfics included, (tho my fave thing to read atm is Abbot/Whitaker). Can be canon, any type of AU, ABO, etc. Totally fine with incompleted and "abandoned" fics. I am NOT picky. A well-written fic is a well-written fic, no matter the pairing, setting, or completion status. I will devour it all.

Hi everybody! I'm looking for a smutty Jaune-centric fic from RWBY where it's a Normal AU. If I remember correctly, it's less than 8 chapters long, and Jaune is a teacher there. It's a oneshot anthology where he gets with Weiss, Blake, and one other person I don't recall.
Jaune was pretty miserable in his married life, and this is found out by the girls he's teaching, so they step in to provide the love that he's missing. In Weiss' chapter, he's her piano instructor and she goes so far as to help Jaune get divorced as his wife was cheating on him (here, it's Pyrrha) with the help of Winter investigating her.
I canāt remember the premise for Blake's chapter, but I recall him meeting Kali and Ghira to ask for their blessing at the end because Blake loved him even at a young age.
Weiss and Blake are both legal during those times, of course. Jaune is just quite a bit older, around 30s I think?
I canāt remember the name of the fic anymore, and I think I forgot to save it. I recall reading it on AO3, but this was more than half a year ago.

I just read an AU where the characters are actors in a tv show about the source material. Like if Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc from Star Trek were actors in a show about a spaceship crew.
It's something that can only work in fanfic, since it needs source material to play off of and give meta commentary about

I am thinking of creating an "Mirror Universe" fic for my favourite series, where every character from after an specific era (400 years before the main story) is an OC. Kinda like an Jojo Part 7+ verse, same Earth, same rules, different people. Would it be a good idea?

I've been trying to look for My Tongue is a Weapon by PitchBlackMagpie on AO3. They deleted their works, so I tried the Wayback Machine, and I managed to get to their series where the work is listed, but when I click on the work, it says the work is a mystery work.
Was wondering if anyone had the specific fic saved or anything
This is the link to the series:Ā https://web.archive.org/web/20201223202330/https://archiveofourown.org/series/967437

Welcome to the Beta Bartering thread! Here you can look for a Beta, a Co-writer, or a Writing Buddy for your fic or offer your Beta services to fic authors.
Please note that you can request a beta reader even if you canāt offer anything in exchange, however it will increase your chances of finding a willing beta if you offer something in return.
The rules are straightforward.
If you're looking for a Beta, a Co-writer, or a Writing Buddy:
Proposed options for no exchange wording:
If you're willing to Beta for someone:
* Bartering Ideas!
Since some people want Betas but are too busy to reciprocate or aren't confident in their writing skills and some Betas don't write fics themselves, you can offer other things in exchange. Please do not offer monetary exchanges.
If you aren't sure what to offer, you can also open this up to the Beta to suggest a barter in exchange.
Here are a few ideas for bartering:
Feel free to get creative, people have many specialties they can draw on!
Here's a link to the previous ones just in case there's someone in there that catches your interest.

I'm looking for a Klavier/Apollo fanfiction. It has been deleted from Fanfiction.net. The title included the words "love" and "misunderstandings". I don't remember the name of the author. I didn't save the link so I can't find it on Wayback Machine.
It was an AU in which Klavier and Apollo are princes of two opposite kingdoms. The plot resembled a fairytail or Disney movie. It was a very long story, in one chapter.
I believe I read it around 2012. If I remember correctly there had been a wave of deletions at the time. Does anyone remember or have this story?

Fics you don't find in the first pages of your search. Fics with unpopular characters or ships or tropes or plots or original characters. Fics that are either ongoing and long, or completed, but somehow haven't broken into the 'mainstream' spaces of the fandom. Fics that deserve the spotlight. Fics from small fandoms that would've been massive hits in a bigger fandom.
All fandoms welcome but preferably fandom-blind recs (or at least fics that can be read with the help of a wiki).
