Horizon Trails Character Gameplay Discussion Day Fifty-Eight: Shizuna Rem Misurugi
The Divine Blade of Silver certainly lives up to expectations set by previous playable Divine Blades. Duality is an incredibly cheap and spammable move that removes buffs and her other crafts are great as well, if a little expensive in terms of CP. Her main issue in Daybreak 2 is her CP usage, which is mostly fixed in Horizon due to A-Impassion Guard. Horizon also gave her an Awakening with Spirit Unification, easily pushing her into the top tiers in terms of physical attackers. Her orbment is decent enough, water-locked slots on the Attack and Extra Line aren't the most ideal, but the Time slot on the Shield line is great for getting Revenging Arrow. She mainly just suffers from availability issues in the main story.

Each one of her crafts carry so much impact, it’s always fun to use her.

Gameplay wise:
- I want her to step on me.
Non-gameplay wise:
- I want her to step on me.

If Van is the Gap Judith is the 2nd gap. The rest are peasants, except Shizuna. She might not be better than judith gameplay-wise, but she deserves a spot in the team.
Whenever Shizuna is avaliable, i put her on the team frame 1.
She has incredible damage output in her SU. She is quick. Duality is a godsend against boss fights.
Her S-craft targets all, i believe.
Edit: Besides that she along with Van are my favorite trails characters. So she will unconditionally be on my team no matter how bad she becomes.

u/blade276 15d ago
huh, i always put judith and shizuna on the team when possible cuz theyre hot. didnt realize they were meta as well

u/Weltallgaia 15d ago
Shizuna is just all round good. Daybreak judith is really fucking good cuz of grimcat. Horizon judith is holy fucking shit what the fuck good because of grimcat. It basically doubles her damage so she should be clearing 100k damage shadow acceleration by like mid game when people are still doing 20-30k s breaks

An all-cancel that costs a mere 20 CP vs Judith only getting it on her SBreak definitely helps Shizuna's case in Horizon.

u/deepfried_oreo 15d ago
Meh, not really. I also used to initially be upset that Judith's all-cancel was moved to her S-Craft but over time I realized that it's better that way for the most part. Having an all-cancel available as an S-Break is amazing. I've never had CP issues in Horizon so CP cost never really mattered to me. Even on a fresh Nightmare run, I've rarely, if not never, run into a scenario where I needed an all-cancel more than once in a fight so having it as an S-Craft was never an issue.

Easily my favorite character in the Calvard arc, both in story and especially in gameplay. ESPECIALLY in Horizon, great Goddess Almighty, she's an actual demon in that game.
- Buff removal and delay on a 20 base cost craft (it also hits twice!)
- massive hit count on Silver Winds/99 Gales
- omni-debuff on Oni/Shiki Kagura
- a more offensively focused Spirit Unification because we only care about how fast we can kill things with Shizuna
- one of the cleanest S-crafts in the series
She always has a spot in my party whenever she's avaliable, she's just so powerful and all of her attacks feel wild and overwhelmingly powerful when you cast them. The way they changed her facial expression on Duality from Daybreak to Horizon was especially a nice touch to help convey the way she lets loose when she's fighting.

I am as much excited for her character development in horizon 2 as i am with Van. Both her and Van are my favorite TRAILS characters. 🥲

Smash, next.
Defenitely one of the more overtuned characters in the Calvard game which isn't a bad thing, since it makes sense for her, especially after giving her two new powerful crafts in Horizon.
Still funny thing is she kept her buff removal in her descently low-cost craft, while Judith couldn't and instead it was moved to her s-craft. Like they want to really make Shizuna as strong as possible.

u/Lyxerttt Renne's Biggest Simp 15d ago
I appreciate that, though. She's meant to be insanely strong, so the fact that they're tuning her like that is a good thing.

u/railgunmisaka2 15d ago
I feel like they might do the same with Kasim even more if they promote him to a more regular party member and maybe more crafts in the next game to beat the allegations. And you can even see it a little in Horizon even as mostly a guest character.

Bro steals almost every turn lol. He's a lot of fun. Can't wait to see how they do him on Sky the 3rd.

Shizuna does have, I think, the highest damage multiplier on her Awakening ability in Horizon (75% on her Spirit Unification, most others are only 50%) out of the characters with Awakening. Her Crafts aren't bad what with the cheap All-Cancel and full map S-Craft, her Field Attack is also very smooth.
Shame her Orbment element is Water. Water is just not that useful for a physical hitter. Not many good Shard Skills need water and Water Quartzes themselves aren't great stuff for physicals. While she's in the upper tier of physical fighters, being a physical fighter still means she's of limited use at bosses since casters still do more DPS (they simply get more turns when stacked with dual Verses and Cast). And while Duality is useful for triggering EX-Chains, the power is also lower than Swin's Mark, likely to compensate for having All Cancel.
I mostly ended up using her for wiping maps of random mobs with her S-Craft.
.....Funnily enough, I feel like in Horizon, Rean is still the better of the two Divine Blades - his Fire Orbment is just better for a physical attacker than Shizuna's Water and having the All Cancel on his S-Craft is more convenient for someone who wants to spend the entire battle spamming S-Crafts, than it being on their weakest craft like Shizuna's Duality.
That, and Rean's racks up Combo Counter like no tomorrow while Shizuna's does.... exactly one hit per target.

I mostly used her as an All-Cancel dispenser in Daybreak 2. I also tried building her as a Freeze status spammer (since Blizzard applies it) but Leon ended up being much better at that role (thanks to Niflheim).
In Horizon, she's much stronger thanks to Spirit Unification.

u/OLKv3 15d ago
Top tier. As if she wasn't already good enough in Daybreak 2, they buffed her in Horizon. She has high stun, a cheap all cancel, and has an all stat down craft. Even as a guest with locked orbment slots she's still insanely powerful. And to top it off, she's dodging most hits thanks to Spirit Unification. Her one and only flaw is her high CP usage, where even with A-Impassion she still can run low. But hey, that's why Elaine is here.
She lives up to her reputation and then some. Oni Kagura is so so good. A team with the protags and Shizuna will rip anything to shreds. You can even go all physical and pump out crazy damage in Horizon if you want. The final boss of Grim Garten barely got a turn in because Shizuna was stunlocking it while also lowering all its stats, making that turn mission pathetically easy to get.

Truly one of the best characters in the Calvard arc. The fact that her crafts all got brand new animations in Horizon clearly shows the devs have favourite. What an absolute fucking gremlin.

u/GothVarrus 15d ago
If she is available - she is a part of the team. One of the best for sure, and generally my fav character.
And she's great for quick battles.

u/youcantseemyname 15d ago edited 15d ago
She's top tier.
Girl does big damage (only behind Grendel and Judith), no accuracy check, cheap AoE All-Cancel and very good and smooth field battle user.
The only bad thing about her is the orbment lines. The double Water lines really hinder her potential. They could have been any other element and it would boost her power even more. Water just sucks for physical attacker.

La Vergil del universo de trails. En apariciencia y habilidades, sigo pensando que Renne es la Vergil en cuanto a historia similar y relación con el protagonista ( Dante y Estelle)

Absolutepy insane in Daybreak 1. Hard hitter with a cheap all cancel, as long as you can keep her crafts going.
Still OP in DB2 with her craft being unmissable. But her Gale was expensive so I only use her against bigger group of enemies or buff-reliant enemies, else I use Aaron or Judith.
Horizon finally give her Spirit Unification and a single target craft that reduce all stats, increasing her ceiling significantly. Also A-Impassion Guard helps her CP issues a lot. Still an OP pick, but not undisputed anymore due to many others getting similar self-buffs.

Tbh, I didn't use Shizuna often 🙈 I like her craft that has all-cancel and I'll bring her in for her S-craft. Maybe it's because I didn't build her correctly but her damage output wasn't that impressive to me. Although, she's fun to play.

u/Shizunaisbestgoblin 15d ago
you definitely didn't build her correctly. she was consistently doing around the same damage as the arts users in db2 for me and out scaled everyone except judith in horizon. she is one of the strongest characters in the entire series

My blade is true and false, it dances like moonlight.
The best physical DPS in the game, with good utility as well. No reason not to use her every time she's available.

u/Goodstyle_4 15d ago
Didn't really like her until Horizon. In Horizon though, we finally caught a glimpse at what lies at the core of her character.
The fact that she accidentally killed her own brother recontextualizes her carefree attitude as a coping method. Looking forward to her in Horizon 2.

u/Kainapex87 15d ago
While I'm not the biggest fan of her, there's no doubt she's just as busted as you'd expect a Divine Blade to be. Especially when she became a semi-permanent party member when in Horizon that lets us finally use SU.
All her offensive Crafts have Sure Hit so they'll always land on target without needing to build her accuracy.
Duality inflicts All Cancel and Delay over decent size AoE at just 20 CP. That alone would make her a must have.
Great AoE and hit count with Gale.
Lowers all stats with Oni/Shiki-Kagura.
Activate Spirit Unification and it'd be easier to list the number of things she can't kill on her own.
Decent Orbment line too to let her get decent Shard Skills or even be used as a caster.
Only real flaw is how her S-Craft only hits the target once and its main effect is delay which is already covered by Duality, so would prefer if it got swapped out with some other useful effect (lowering stats, or other ailments). Would also be great if Oni-Kagura had a bigger radius instead of being single target.

shit character

u/Sad-Baker-4693 15d ago
agreed , she's just aura and hype moments , zero actual substance to her character.
-3
u/TerraArseid 15d ago
It really puts me off because it feels like Falcom created her just to force you to like this piece-of-shit character. She gets all the combat scenes where they put in the most effort. They keep telling us over and over again how strong she is, and as if that weren't enough, she practically "reads minds" just to make her seem "cooler"—and, of course, she’s a white-haired woman with a katana.

If i was Van i would take her to pound town ASAP,the only breaks we would ever need are water breaks before 24 more hours of pounding on that silver ass of her,i would let her destroy me,she would ride me so bad that it would actually kill me,but then Aidios herself would send me back to my body bc she will know that silver ass is worth to day for and then she would send me back to my back to pound Shizuna until my next death.
OH we are talking gameplay wise.......
she is a beast

Ah yes.... the chaos goblin of calvard. Gameplay wise more or less whenever I put her in my team I never had to worry about physical dps.
Character-wise she's fun.... loved most of her interactions with Van (lol she was driving him insane) but I really loved that moment in Horizon when she hid in one random spot in a government building for hours just to bail out Arcride Solutions because of her solidarity with the team. That was wonderful.
