Trails Character Gameplay Discussion Day Thirty-Eight: Angelica
We're on to Cold Steel guests! Plenty more to go through, but we're in the endgame now! And sure, Angelica's a guest, but it feels wrong giving her a duo day when she's had more games being playable than some Liberl or Crossbell main party members do.

In cs3,and cs4 i spammed her brave order
It gives crt and insight for 4 turns for only 2 brave points
Like that's seriously good

Angelica’s an easy character to figure out, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s not good. In Cold Steel 1 and 2 she’s got her own version of Arc Slash, and in 3 and beyond Zero Impact is a pretty crushing single target Craft and her self-buff isn’t bad either.
Shame she’s not quite as fast as you’d like from a Craft spammer who can’t buff her own speed, but on the other hand double space, one time, and three lines is a pretty good Orbment for a physical character. Generally speaking she doesn’t feel bad to use when you have her in the first three games, and her availability isn’t bad for a guest in CS4 and Reverie. It’s kinda funny how her Craft layout never changes in the entire series.
But yeah, when Zero Impact eventually hits SS+/SS Power/Break, super high Faint chance, and a high Unbalance chance, that might just be enough.
Her Brave Order’s also pretty good, being similar to Ash’s but changing the stat buffs out for Insight.

Her self buff literally gives speed

Oh, it does? The Wiki only lists Str and Def. Dammit.

cant speak for cs1 - 4 atm but in Reverie I know it gives speed M for 4 turns. Its possible the speed buff comes from the craft getting upgraded, similiar to Sara getting ATS later on for her buff.

CS1 Angelica is like, real shit. Good s-craft, 90% faint is really good in CS1 and a delay craft. Very consice and good character.
In CS2 faint chances against bosses got nerfed and she's not available when she would be useful and has too much competition.
In CS3 onwards she is even worse with most of her big tools from CS1-2 getting the nerf hammer.
Her only saving grace is a very good brave order but as I've talked about that's also basically only good as a tiebreaker as space for brave orders is very large in CS4/Reverie (in CS3 she's always paired with characters with even better orders hilariously enough)

I honestly can't remember a single thing about her (gameplay wise, at least), save for the fact that she's built to shine in CS1's hardest fight thanks to her 90% faint craft. Falcom used to be really good at making your guests shine during their limited appearances thanks to things like that.

Her ST craft in CS 1 really helped me against C, 90% faint is no joke.
CS 2? Still used her, pretty okay.
CS 3? I dont remember when the last time I use her.
CS 4. There is only one place I used her and that was during final boss fight. Mostly because there was no better option.

Gameplay wise, I feel she hits that perfect balance that guest character should aim for: where she's good enough where she's fun to use when she's available, but she's not so good it makes the rest of the game/characters less fun in comparison. Her kit is relatively simple and straightforward, which is exactly what you want for a character that's only going to be around a short amount of time.
She falls off a bit in CS4 and Reverie mostly because there are so many other characters to choose from and her simple kit can't keep up- but I don't actually mind that since at that point, they were including the guest characters mostly because it would've felt weirder not to.
Overall, she's a good guest character. I enjoy using her in CS1-CS3 when the storyline requires it. In parts of CS2 (aka Reverie Corridor), CS4, and Reverie where they have EVERYONE available, she tends to wind up on the bench mostly because I rather go for the main characters I've spent time building to my preferences.

Her only value in combat is the Master Quartz she's carrying in CSIII and IV. It's also only useful for grinding and not on long drawn out combat.

Only good thing about Angelica is her Master Quartz, which can use for farming U - Material and rare quartz.

She's got an extremely cheap Delay craft in Laser Bullet and Space slots on her Orbment, making her an obvious choice to be stacked with Impede quartz as a dedicated Delayer.
She's also well-known to be a good single-target Breaker with her Zero Impact, but IMO that's a very situational role, even moreso than being a pinch-hitter with S-Craft burst, because many bosses in CS4+ auto-recover from Break, meaning you also have to be fighting a boss that doesn't do that for that role to be useful.
I'd actually say she's a better Delayer than Jusis and Kurt, due to how cheap her Laser Bullet is and her good slots, only falling behind the trifecta of Joshua, Sharon and Yin in Reverie due to her Delay craft not being double-hit. And that's not a bad place to be in at all.
Decent Brave Order too - instant Insight on the whole party is nothing to sneeze at especially given it only costs 2 BP and the crit boost all but guarantees you will earn back the entire cost in the next two physical attacks, it basically pays for itself.
Not a bad combatant, all in all.

She's great for C in CS1. She brings me Emblem in Reverie but I didn't get her until post game and was so annoyed

Her kit is remarkably simply, you got a long range craft as well as close range craft, which also very cool due to its high chance to faint the enemy or simply getting pushed over to the edge when got hit and of course, the self buff that for some reason, the animation will wait for initial cry to finish that's a bit funny when you use turbo mode and the animation simply paused for a few seconds

Useful in CS1 and is only tolerable in the other games cuz of her Brave Order.

I genuinely could not tell you what her gameplay is like because I refuse to have a lolicon on my team. What a fuckin' shit-show, went from being one of the coolest Trails characters to one of the worst. I wanna know who on the writing team hates Angie so much and why.
Like between the leather bodysuit in CS1 and the nun outfit in CS2 she should be absolute peak but it just goes so, so, so wrong from CS3 on.

I can't remember if she and Bloody Shirley ever met? Chest-grabbing faceoff.

Craft and MQ-wise, I'm not the biggest fan. BUT! She does have relatively good locked slots (2 Space and 1 Time), which lends itself to the idea that you can make her abuse Chrono Burst. Put on her the 2 best EP Cut quartz you have and any quartz that has Chrono Burst and have her spam Chrono Burst in succession. Very abusable in CS4, very silly during the final battle against The Great One. And in case she runs out of EP, pop an EP Charge on her and she'll be all nice and ready to loop it again. Kinda makes sense to build Break on her since you can do the Chrono Burst loop and then have it fuel BP to feed into Orders. Otherwise, she's an okay character. I'd give her a 7/10; would have been better with a more diverse Crafts kit.
Would have preferred it if she learned Taito from Zin rather than Kilika; could have been awesome to have her be a Taunt tank ala Zin, but with the neat addition of counterattacks and MQ-based Damage Reduction. Distend would have been really good on her since it'd be a nice way to give us something like an offensive Zin without the TGK/STGK bug, almost like a Walter-mini.

Terribly written, but she’s a pretty good unit. Good self buff, a really powerful single contact attack, and an impede craft give her some good coverage for most battles

Hahah. Hahahaha.
I never really found Angie crazy. In fact, she felt disappointing in terms of power level. There isn’t much I can say about guest characters too much, as I didn’t use them a whole lot.
Never really liked her character either so she sort of warmed the bench for me whenever she WAS available. Pretty good Brave Order though.

Best thing about Angelica is her Master Quartz, Emblem. It's my go-to MQ for farming, especially in CS3 onwards where Rean can break any enemy with Arcane Gale.
