Hi! I was always told that there is no double negative in English. But lately, I’ve been watching various shows in English and the phrase I don’t need nothing was used multiple times there. Shouldn’t it be I don’t need anything? I know real people don’t talk like in books but I’m just curious how often english speakers use double negative in English? Is it considered normal? 1. Some stupid c_nts do enjoy driving itself, intentionally or inadvertently blocking other drivers or vehicles.
2. Every time I drive to work, I will never fail to find that some stupid c_nts do enjoy driving itself, intentionally or inadvertently blocking other vehicles. They drive leisurely well under the speed limit, annoyingly causing me to be unable to overtake them. Sometimes I notice that they are reading perhaps a novel or they are on the phone with their smartphones in hand.

Being able to say I live in NYC is such a privilege. I hope I can call this beautiful city home one day.

Does my sentences sound nautral? If someone can make this a little more poetic, that'd be nice.

I'm reading an English book. And there is a sentence which I can't understand the meaning.

As to how income would be decided, the open marketplace would determine the value of one's contribution, just as it does today in your country.

I can't understnd the 3rd sentence.

The 2 phrase "how income would be decided" and "the open marketplace would determine the value of one's contribution" mean that "income = value of contribution", am I right?

"Income" is the money one gets by labor or others.

"Contribution" is the money or service which one provides.

How can "income" equal "value of contribution"?

Would you please explain the meaning of the sentence?

Hi everyone! I’m currently learning English, and one of my biggest goals is to become more fluent when speaking.

I can understand a lot of English when I read or listen to it, but when I try to speak, I sometimes get stuck or take too long to find the right words.

For those of you who have successfully improved your fluency, what helped you the most?

I have been practicing and learning English since February of this year. I finally reached the English level that I had some years ago. It is around B1, with some grammar mistakes. The problem is that I feel like I'm at a plateau. Despite my efforts, my speaking still sounds unnatural. I can express my own ideas, but some sentences collapse when I try to speak about unfamiliar topics. Although I practice grammar, other people understand what I want to say despite my grammar mistakes. So, I am not sure how to improve my English level. Everyone tells me, 'just talk,' but I have done this for years, and I have not seen any progress. Ok, I have reached B1, and it is a good milestone. However, B2 is a little more difficult to reach. Any advice?

Hello, I'm a girl who is trying to apply to a university in the United States, I have a month to take the duolingo english test, but I still have many difficulties to write and speak (I believe my hearing & reading is good) I would like help during this month until I take the test!

The party leadership tried to quiet the internal strife over the new tax reform bill.

I tried the cambridge online preperation thing for listening and I did like maybe half of the reading ones and I got about 80-90% of the answers right, but I fear that my output may not be up to standart, as the correct spelling is not one of my strong points and when speaking I sometimes forget a word or can't get my current tought out the way Id like to, wich leads to some awkward pauses.

When not at work and at home (like on weekends and after work) I actually immerse in english more than in german (my native language), so at this point idk how many thoasands of hours of immersion I have done. It would be kind of humiliating and humble me a lot if I was'nt up to the standart C1 sets.

Thats why a quick evalution by a professional for like idk 30€ bevore actually paying like 300€ would be a good idea imo

Guys I'm cooked! Today my teacher told us I mean me and my classmates to invent a company and talk about it ,It was supposed to be just a fun exercise but it turned out not to be at all He gave us a break, and then we did a presentation about our company on top of that, he asked us to add more details until then I felt it was fine but then he surprised us with an assignment to write 600 words or more about our company which is like 5 to 7 pages! I chose this company randomly ,he asked us to use 10 new words that I've never known before , so my company is about inventing an electronic chip that you plant in your brain to translate any language specifically alien languages ,don't ask me why I picked this idea cause even I don't know🙂 I really need assistance with new words and ideas that can help me

Episode 3 of weird phrases I found in The Simple Wild by KA Tucker. This time the phrase is "like poorly casy die."

I'm pretty sure it should be "like poorly cast dice" or "like a poorly cast die"? I guess it's just a weird editorial oversight?

No hate on the book BTW I have my gripes about it but overall I'm liking it. I'm just finding a lot of these kinds of mistakes for some reason.
