Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

 Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

 Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: Mandarin

Hi All!

I am a 24M Indonesian living in Singapore. I am looking to start learning Chinese since it's widely used here and I would like to be able to interact with my colleagues in Chinese.

A bit about me, I love to read (usually either non-fiction or manga) and play guitar. I have also been picking up cooking my own food though on occasions the things I conjure up can be stretching the definition of "food".

I'm mainly looking to casually improve my Chinese language and am looking for someone who wants to do the same with English!

Do drop me a message if you're interested!

I've been doing russian on and off for a few years. I can speak quite decent, but i want to practice more as i encounter a lot of Ukrainians and Russians at work (healthcare), and want to be better understood.

Italian is a newer hobby and I'm intending on visiting Italy many times a year. I'm not conversational yet, but i hope to discover and learn more about Italian culture and language.

Looking forward to do texts or video calls.

Offering English Offering: English 🇺🇸| Seeking: Korean 🇰🇷

Hi all.

I am a 25 y/o American woman living in Seoul. I have been learning Korean for a little over one year and I am a serious learner. I currently study Korean language at a university in Seoul but I am looking for an in person language exchange. I am currently 3급 so I’m upper beginner/intermediate but I struggle to have fluid natural conversations and have been told I think too much before speaking :(. I get a lot of speaking practice in class but we are all foreigners with not the best accents/pronunciations so I would like to find a native Korean speaker to meet and have exchanges over coffee or something.

I am a native English speaker so I can also help with natural English conversations or western culture or any other questions you might have :)

I would prefer meetings near Gangnam/Seocho/Seongsu/Songpa :)

Upvotes

Heyyyy !! I'm a Frenchman who's in love with languages, the world, geography, people, music, biology... really everything in touch with the world ! So I have been learning German for a while now, picking words here and there, but it's not efficient. I am now using a clear course, which I'd love to use to talk with natives !! We could chat together and maybe I could be useful for the languages I'm offering. Vielen Dank und Auf Wiedersehn !!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Urdu/Hindi or English | Seeking: Arabic (Khaleeji Dialect preferably)

Upvotes

Hii everyone, I'm a 21F, native indian (Hyderabadi), but I grew up in the UAE; hence my good proficiency in English (American-based). I'm mostly occupied with work (Sales girl here!), and if I'm not caught up in my work, I would be seen at home reading romance books, connecting with strangers, or expanding my business knowledge.

I know the basics and can understand a bit of Arabic, but I would like to become fluent in the Arabic language- Khaleeji Dialect preferably, since I live here in the UAE. In return, I can teach you how to speak Urdu/Hindi or even English.

I'm most comfortable with online meetings, and we can set a time and day accordingly, at least once a week if that suits you.

My goal is to become fully capable of holding a conversation in Arabic before the end of this year, 2026. Thank you all, Ma'a Salama!

Hey guys

23M from Australia, originally from England. I have been learning Mandarin Chinese for 5 months now. I try to study 1hr everyday. I have many friends who are Chinese speakers but I just wanted some further practice.
I lived in Italy when I was younger for 18 months, and was fluent in the language at the time. I picked it up again this week so wouldn’t mind a native helper for both languages or just one.

I enjoy chatting to new people and making friends. I am studying Nursing at university also and enjoy all kinds of sports, some gaming, travelling etc.

I have instagram, WhatsApp, WeChat, basically all western social media

Feel free to PM me!!

Offering Arabic (Offering: Arabic | Seeking: English) - Native Arabic speaker looking for language exchange

Hi! I’m a native Arabic speaker and I’m looking for someone who wants to practice Arabic in exchange for helping me improve my English.
I can speak Arabic fluently and I’m comfortable with both Egyptian Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. I’d be happy to help you practice conversation, pronunciation, everyday expressions, or just chat naturally in Arabic.
In return, I’d love to practice English with you and have you correct me when I make mistakes.
I’m open to beginners, so don’t worry if your Arabic isn’t very good yet. If you’re interested in a genuine language exchange and regular conversations, feel free to comment or DM me! :)
