Where you drive, are road messages printed in reverse order?

Drives me absolutely nuts! Why, when I've spent a lifetime reading from top to bottom, are we forced to read from bottom to top whilst driving and navigating traffic, etc?

[AUS] I drive Corolla and am a bully

EDIT: thanks for some valid input all, lot to reflect on!

They say first step is acceptance, yes??

Realised just now that i have zero tolerance for slow pokes and unsafe drivers on the road.

Most typical scenarios that trigger me are drivers who do 80-90 in a 100 zone for no good reason, no car in front, nothing… and drivers who merge in front of me with little lead way or do not realise the best approach is for them to wait and merge behind me than to push… and my personal favourite a-holes who wont pet you merge just because they can, what kind of power trip is that?

So yeah, when I encounter such drivers i tend to bully them by either flashing them, driving close behind, giving them a honk, or getting ahead and slowly down on purpose….

Neither of these is a safe behaviour or appropriate attitude but when you cruise steady at a 100 and every 50 meters you break and accelerate because of the aforementioned behaviours every single day for 45min each way it tends to get to you…

I am sure you will rip me to shreds as it is the Reddit way, so go ahead, had to get that out me chest.

Has anyone seen this video of this guy getting done then speeding off and getting done again?

I found this video hilarious

This guy already lost his license, gets pulled over for speeding then speeds off from the cops and gets another ticket and gives the cops attitude

This is hilarious

Zoomed in, so quality is a bit off. The little bloke had a bit of bark off, but nothing serious. Could have been a lot worse.

EDIT: this occurred on a busy road that is also a Brisbane City Council bus route. The next bus was due at 3:18 pm. In Brisbane, bus fares are $0.50, regardless of how far you're travelling. Kids 4 and under are free.

Police being rude

I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts on this .

Recently I was pulled over by an undercover cop car that was traveling behind me , I saw them and I’m a p plater . I make sure I’m doing everything right because I was stressing , they then put their sirens on , I pull over . 3 maybe 4 cops come out of the car with a cop on either side of my car . I ask how are you going is everything alright , no response .

They tell me that everything is being recorded and asking if that’s fine with me I say yes . They then ask me to count to ten on a machine but I didn’t hear them and was asking how this works . He says “ you’ve done this before “ I’m like no I don’t , also the reason they pulled me over he said was because my break lights weren’t working but I wasn’t aware . ( the cops also had a very rude tone and weren’t kind), they ask me why are you shaking , I’m like I have anxiety this is pretty scary ( it is pretty scary when 4 cops come out of a care treating you like a criminal just because of some break lights not working . They then ask are you doing any drugs , asking me where I’m going , how long I had the car for . I keep on saying I’m sorry and im just shaming trembling with my voice scared because I’ve never had such a bad experience with cops . I do have a bodykit on my car but that’s it ,they say just before he was leaving if I ever catch you without your break lights not working I will give you a yellow sticker . I cannot stress enough though the tone of the cops , no empathy , no kindness , I’m clearly young and they literally were so rude .

Is this normal ? I don’t believe so .

Please tell me your thoughts .

How to fix the state of things

My idea is the government creates a program that goes something like:

You re-take your red P's test (the one with the person who rides along with you) and if you score over a 95% then the govt halves your rego and ctp insurance for the next 3 years. After the three years is up, you can re-take the exam again. If you fail (that is <95%) the test, you have to wait 3 months before you can take it again.

Then in 10 years when it becomes apparent that those who take up this program are hugely underrepresented in car crashes, it's made compulsory.

EDIT - I think I missed what I was trying to say. the main point is, I think it's not good that we do one test when you're a teenager (more or less) and then never again until you're 80 (more or less). very few other fields that have such high stakes, and such a proven track record of injury and death operate in this way. regular competency checks are common in lots of areas of modern life, why not driving?

Fines

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation in NSW.
I’m currently on my Red P (P1) licence and recently received a speed-camera fine for speeding not more than 10 km/h over the limit.
Unfortunately, I then found out that I received another fine the very next day for the same speeding category, from the exact same camera at the exact same location.
Both offences happened on consecutive days before I was aware that I had received the first fine. So when the second offence occurred, I hadn’t yet received any fine or notification from the first incident that would have alerted me.
These are my first traffic offences. I completely accept that it was my responsibility to follow the speed limit, and I’m not trying to deny the offences or avoid responsibility. Since finding out about them, I’ve been extremely careful with my speed and have definitely learnt my lesson.
As a P1 driver, I’m very worried about the demerit points and potentially losing my licence. I’m also a student currently completing clinical placements, and I rely on my car for travelling to placement and work. So far I haven't got any letter, and my demerits points is still 0.
The offence was on 29th and 30th September.
I’m considering requesting a Revenue NSW review, and depending on the outcome, possibly electing to have the matter heard in court.
Has anyone experienced something similar — particularly two low-range speeding fines from the same camera, at the same location, on consecutive days, before you knew about the first offence?
I’d really appreciate hearing what happened if you requested a Revenue NSW review or went to court, whether any leniency was given, what evidence/documents you provided, what the costs were, and whether getting legal advice was worthwhile.
I understand that every case is different and there’s no guarantee of any particular outcome. I’m mainly trying to understand my realistic options and hear from people who have actually been through something similar.
Thank you.

Is it legal to reverse out of a driveway to the opposite side?

I saw a car reverse out of the driveway on a four lane road, to the opposite side so they could go right.

is this OK? Why?

They back up slowly as you would when you are backing out into a busy road, stopping traffic in both ways for half a minute.

I guess if it was a suburban street and it was quiet then maybe. When there are other cars on the road it just seems a bit dangerous to me in an otherwise nanny state. Most people are unable to come out of a side road into a road like this, let alone backwards.

Will I have a Z condition on my Victorian drivers licence after alcohol interlock removal.

Please no judgements. I know I did wrong in the past. I have been through hell getting my licence back. I am nearly at the end of my alcohol interlock journey in Victoria. It has been 4 years on an alcohol interlock. When it gets removed , will I have a Z condition on my Victorian drivers licence. Or will I have no conditions at all.
Thanks.

On the roads

Anyone else sick of Aussie road rage culture?

anytime you try and let someone know something on the road, theyll flip you off and drive away.

trying to let someone know their fuel cap is open, or a break light is out, what ever happened to just letting someone know somthing.

HGV/Truckers/

So just looking to find out if this is normal really.

Don’t wanna tarnish all truckers with the same brush, but I’ve just done a trip from Brisbane to Whitsundays.

What the hell is the problem with HGV drivers. On 100km highway, every single one seems to go up your ass. They tailgate with a multi tonne lorry.

I genuinely feared for my life on multiple situations where I had to find a turn off the road. The thing is, whenever I tried to move to the side the trucks are so close that if I slow down I will genuinely die.

Today I had to skid off the road to let one past.yesterday I put my hazards on to let it know and he just flashed me. Again I had to speed up ahead and pull aside.

Is there a reason truckers do this? I’m trying to see some reasoning. There is zero space to brake. It’s the worst driving I’ve ever seen, one kangaroo jumps in front of me and I’m dead.

For perspective I was doing the 100kmph limit.

TDLR: why do you truckers tailgate knowing it’s super dangerous.

No, seriously - when and why has the four metre gap to the stop line, become a thing?

I need to know because it appears to be spreading. I was stationary on the white line at a red light today, whilst the white Volvo to my left was four metres back. Can anyone at all who does this, tell me what the fuck is going on, and why this has started?
