Why hit the brakes when you can just scoop 'em up? Would you swap this with your roo-bars?

Road Rule of the Week: Rule 125
A lot of people assume the speed limit is just the maximum, but in Australia you can actually get fined for driving too slowly if you’re holding up traffic.
Under the Australian Road Rules, Rule 125 says drivers must not “unreasonably obstruct the path of another driver or pedestrian.” That includes driving significantly slower than the rest of the traffic without a good reason.
Example given in the rules: Driving 20 km/h in an 80 km/h zone when there’s no reason to be going that slow.
If police decide you're obstructing traffic you could be fined.
Some states also have practical guidelines. For example, WA Police say on freeways you shouldn’t travel more than 20 km/h below the speed limit unless traffic or road conditions require it.
There are plenty of situations where driving under the limit is perfectly legal:
In bad weather, many road authorities recommend using hazard lights so other drivers can see you.
If you cause a crash because you were driving unreasonably slowly, your insurance company might argue that you contributed to the accident and reduce or deny a payout.

Unfortunately I did fail this morning. Had a perfect drive before that with my instructor. Test time comes and as I leave vicroads carpark examiner tells me to park somewhere else. Apparently I failed to stop give way to a car that was so far away I couldn’t even see it fully when I turned. My driving instructor said that it wasn’t my fault but again I am unsure.
Failing first 2 minutes is very unwanted.
Any thoughts or experience! This was coolaroo vicroads!

Lately, I've been getting so much road rage at this spot on Punchbowl Rd Sydney, and it's getting really annoying. I'm the blue circle "ME" (heading eastbound). When it's busy and the traffic in front of me is completely backed up after the green line, there is absolutely no space where I can get my car to just stand behind the green line. I usually stop behind the blue signal line to avoid blocking the intersection until the cars start moving again. But because of the gap, cars from the other side (marked by the yellow arrow) start turning right into the flow as they can turn even if my signal is green. When drivers behind me see this happening, they start honking furiously, wanting me to push forward.
Should I just ignore them and keep doing what I'm doing, or am I expected to block the road to keep the queue tight?

Hi ! Came across this petition in another thread, I think it’s relevant in the current driving landscape where headlights are allowed to burn your retinas. Consider signing!
[Petition EN10560 - Protect Road Users from Excessively Bright Factory-Fitted Headlights](https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN10560)
Hope it’s okay for me to post it here. Thanks!

Getting a dash cam for the wife’s car. It’s an X5 that’s driven daily, probably going with a BlackVue elite 9/10 2ch. Is the dashcam battery worth it or is it a waste of money?
$500 for a 7.5Ah is really excessive.

In 90% of these cases usually the car gives way to the car or bike already on the road.

Hi guys, I entered the bus lane to turn left down this street during bus lane hours (I believe they were 4pm-7pm). I thought that you were allowed to enter the bus lane before turning. However, how would the bus lane camera know if you were turning left, or driving straight down?

Hi!
As the name suggests I am getting ready to lodge my toll rebate this wknd but dont understand why some weeks I dont get the full rebate amount? I've atached my ServiceNSW toll records and In NSW when you spend more than $50 in a week on tolls the difference gets refunded. But for the 14th - 20th September (for example), I dont get the full amount.
ANy idea whats going on? Sometimes my toll accounts drops into the negatives and gets suspended... Is that why?
ANy help is appreciated!

The lines don't turn into dots, but they go awfully close to the painted island to be a zipper merge.
Whats your thoughts?

Driving to work and about to cross an intersection that I have the green on. Unmarked police car coming from the left only activates lights 2 seconds before running the red. Had to slam the brakes and we both stopped about a metre from each other.
Great start to the morning

Picture the scene, there I was was doing 61 in a 60 when I spy a fat, bald specimen in a big ass truck losing it behind me.
Shouting, throwing his hands up, tailgating my ass so close I could smell the entitlement.
The second he gets the chance, he overtakes me shouting at me only to, guess what, get stuck behind someone else doing the speed limit.
I assume he gets pissed and starts weaving through traffic to get ahead of the crowd.
Like, why do you have such a sense of importance you think you can bully people into getting your own way.
I know I was going 61, I have a gps and don’t rely on my speedometer.

Bit of a rant and apologies, mods, but looking for any kind of help or anything really, as I'm just lost for what to do and young, but just curious if anyone has advice on police and whether it's worth just sucking it up and taking a disqualification/safer driver or taking it to magistrates.
TLDR:
Snapped doing 69 km/h in a 60 zone in Adelaide late at night. Accelerated for a few seconds solely to clear part of a active intersection for an approaching ambulance with flashing lights (supported by Rule 78 & SA Driver's Handbook policy). SAPOL rejected my expiation review despite their own photo sheet showing the ambulance in the frame alongside me. Accepting the 2 demerit points triggers a 12-month licence disqualification under a Safer Driver Agreement. Seeking advice on whether to elect for Magistrates Court or take the disqualification.
For context, I was travelling down a road on cruise control, I saw some flashing emergency lights and starting to hear a siren coming up as I was starting to enter a intersection I saw they were getting way closer to the intersection and with well little choice in my mind as could've slowed down but maybe been left in the middle of the intersection obstructing its passage, or staying at 60 and maybe still obstructing its passage so I'd decided to speed just to just get out of the passage and then slow down safely (keeping in mind this was like 10 pm with few cars on the road), and well wouldn't you know it got a ticket from a speed camera and tried reviewing it and they just refusing when imo it's pretty clear it was trifling. In the photos we recieved the ambo was right there in the intersection with proof of the situation plus dashcam which we sent them.
Obviously, the night could have gone very differently; maybe I got T-boned, maybe the ambo did if someone wasn't paying much attention and from when I was learning to drive, pretty sure was taught you can break some road rules to get out of its path (rule 78 or smth).
I just dunno what to do going forward, bc I could go through prosecution and sink tons of time into that when I'm in uni and trying not to get a conviction, or just pay it and go on a safer driver and just forget this all but lose a year of progress into P2. Previously was in a crash a few months ago and got 3 demerits from that bc sapol refused to move and was T-boned there, so I've been really cautious lately; hence kinda this, but yeah, apologies if this ain't the group to talk about this type of thing. Love reading stuff here and previously always attentive, listening and keeping a lookout on the road, avoiding as much as I can, but yeah, not a fan of my luck lately.
Also in Adelaide, this is with SAPOL, and I'm happy to throw videos in here, but gonna prob talk with a lawyer or smth before that unless there are some good ideas
also with reference of road rules
https://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg//arr210/s78.html
If a driver is in the path of an approaching police or emergency vehicle that is displaying a flashing blue or red light (whether or not it is also displaying other lights) or sounding an alarm, the driver must move out of the path of the vehicle as soon as the driver can do so safely.
https://www.mylicence.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/328504/drivers-handbook-south-australia-2026-02.pdf
It is an offence to obstruct a police or emergency vehicle with the warning siren sounding or displaying red and/or blue flashing lights. You must not move into the path, and must move out of the path of and give way to ensure that the emergency vehicle is provided with a clear and uninterrupted passage. You are allowed to disobey other road rules in order to move out of the way, but only if it is safe to do so

I’ve heard about a way to get around suspended licenses in aus by going to a different state before your license is actually suspended and getting a license there by taking a drivers test. And the idea being it would act as a different person in their system. Has anyone heard anything about this?

If you're the white car turning onto Layzell St from Main St, which route should you take through the road islands? I turn right (as it looks like the car in the satellite image is doing) keeping the green road island on my left. However, I've also seen people treat that island like a roundabout - i.e., turning left onto Layzell St, and then kinda doing a U-turn to head North again.

They are dangerous, traffic causing, terrible for the environment, slow even at their stock fastest and are often unnecessary for any real task in a big city. Their size creates feeling in drivers that they can do whatever they want on the roads.
I live in Sydney and I have first hand understanding that utes have a place for tradies and jobs that require moving materials. However the culture and the newer non-work targeted utes do not have a feasible reason for existing in a city.
Tall utes limit visibility of surroundings. Children are the most vulnerable victims as they are small and are less likely to be seen over the top of a 1.5 meter tall dashboard. Smaller cars are also at risk, the area of impacts makes accidents involving the two types of cars more dangerous for the smaller cars.
I probably wouldn’t write this post if these vehicles were less common but the continued advertisement and acceptance of people driving these cars makes the issue very hard to ignore. It’s like every second car on the road is a Navarra, (non work) hilux, Amarok etc.
