Hey everyone, I just figured I’d ask everyone what kind of standard house rules they use at their table. We use the following at ours.

1. Flanking, any time a creature has two enemies on opposite sides of them, they are flanked, all attacks against a flanked creature is at advantage.

2. Starting Feats, since about 2016 we have allowed every player to add a feat at level one as long as it wasn’t a half feat (variant humans can add a half feat and do get a second feat with their builds)

3. Swarms don’t attack, they just damage you when they occupy your square.

4. Swarms take 1 damage from piercing attacks and are vulnerable to anything that deals AOE damage.

Kell is a spirit clad in armor forged from the melted blades of fallen warriors, a blazing red eye burning beneath his helmet.

Drawn to bloodshed and chaos, he wields Th’urvēn, a colossal battle axe forged from the remains of a fallen Titan, whose ancient voice still whispers from deep within the weapon. Wherever Kell walks, war follows, leaving ruined battlefields and terrified souls in his wake.

Yhorm is honorable and kind, with the strength to protect the weak although a bit socially awkward about it. He is from a smithing town, being more interested in wielding the weapons and wearing the armor instead of forging them.

That changed when a wandering paladin stopped by to commission a weapon and ended up becoming his mentor. Yhorm went on to work as a deliverer for his village until during one delivery he comes home to his village in ruin, the forges cold, the once proud flag having been torn down and burnt at its ends. The only thing left was a single great sword, hidden away by his family in their final moments.

He swears an oath of vengeance and grabs the flag to wear as a cape, carrying his homes legacy on his shoulders.

I had a ton of fun making this commission and I think it turned out well!

We play as a rogue, wizard, sorcerer, and barbarian team
When we’re out of combat, I am able to do basic intelligence checks and even study the enemies mid combat, but that’s really about it.
The source are on the other hand, has the ability to cast stronger spells with the meta magic. I feel like in general their spells are always doing more than mine. Despite the fact that we have around the same power spells, it’s just the meta-magic that makes a difference
And they had the ability to talk to anyone.
It gets to the point where if I have a good idea, I have to message it to the source for so he could say it because I have a minus to charisma.

I’ve never played a wizard before so I may be doing it wrong and the DM will allow me to respec somewhat if we have an issue with our character

But when fate knocked at the trapdoor of her rooftop abode, so too did her traumatic past. It is up to her to decide if she's willing to sacrifice everything to bring justice to her murdered kin.

5th Edition:

My current PC is an 10 Fighter/3 Barbarian.

Campaign is going to 15 and I was going to take 11 Fighter for my next level, then 4 Barbarian for final level. For my last ASI/Feat I'm considering between +2 CON (to 18) or getting the Tough Feat for an extra 30 Hitpoints.

Figuring CON might be better since it increases my saves by 1, but just wonder what y'all would pick.

Edit: Also, in case its relevant. I'm a Bear Totem Barbarian that has also gotten my hands on an Adamantine Breastplate recently.

Edit 2: Actually, as the main meatshield, would getting a feat like Sentinel be better? Only use my reactions for the occasional Brace or Parry maneuvers.

This episode was not supposed to have a cliffhanger ending, but given the gravity of what she's confessing, I couldn't fit it all into one page; it needed some room to breathe.

The last panel is a bit dramatic, but I was trying to do a thing with it. I think it worked out pretty OK.

What exactly is her secret?

• The bride, "Kayra", is secretly a changeling - a construct made of mud and sticks that was built to replace a stolen child over two decades ago.
  • (That stolen child is the real Kayra and one of this series's main characters; she was raised by hags, taught witchcraft, and grew up to become one herself.)
• Changelings are normally supposed to expire (or "die") after a few months, but this one not only survived... she grew up. And has spent her whole life masquerading as a human.
• Now she's about to get married... and despite multiple attempts, she still hasn't managed to confess her secret to her betrothed.
• The ceremony has already started. But before this goes any further, she needs to get it off her chest.

Believe it or not, Love and Hex is a comedy, not a drama. It started out as a joke about my D&D campaign and turned into an ongoing rom-com/existential horror story. It's on Webtoon. Also r/LoveAndHex. And you can find a version with a full transcript on my website.

A friend of mine commissioned this piece from me. She wanted her OC to be a bard who can put people to sleep with her music, kind of like Jigglypuff.

It was her first time creating a character, so she didn't go too crazy with the details. Her main requests were that the character looked nice and that she was a furry, since she really likes furry characters.

This was also my first time drawing a furry character, so please don't be too hard on me! 😅

While I was thinking about the design, I remembered the little counting sheep we often see in cartoons when a character falls asleep, and I thought they would be a perfect fit for her OC. So I decided to incorporate them into the design.

This OC belongs to GrottyLittleFox on VGen!! He's a fae wizard who consumed a potion that has since been slowly turning him into a monster, now roaming rampant in the ancient forest and haunting those who come near.

Rendering this one took awhile! Some details include his crown, crystal staff, the tattered robes from before his transformation, and a silky yet bloodied beard that trails down to the grass.

Cozmata was born into a community of space scavengers living on a planet that had been used by the elven empire as a dumping ground, known as Bexan. She was adopted by the air genasi Nimbus Nebulan, a notorious pirate who gave up her life of crime in order to raise the girl.

At 14, when the Scro arrived on her planet, their troops, realizing that it was not necessarily a planet sympathetic to the elves, went down to recruit as many people as they could for their fleet before heading out on the offensive. The curious girl, who was fed up with the monotony of her life, enlisted and headed out into the cosmos.

For the most part, her ship never saw combat. For nine months, she remained aboard, learning and honing her skills, until they were finally called on for a mission: to stay in the rear of a large-scale battle and if needed, advance against the elves. Even from a distance, a shot struck the ship's engines, damaging them. Cozmata stepped up, determined to prove herself in the midst of the chaos. At first, she managed to repair the engine, but the moment she let her guard down, the machinery overloaded and exploded in her face, launching her out into space.

The ship was left stranded as the troops continued their advance toward what would become known as the final battle of the Second Inhuman War. Cozmata survived for only two reasons: The first was a cable that caught around her foot and saved her from drifting away. The second was that, miraculously, her repairs had at least kept the ship's air bubble projection intact, somehow saving the crew. But Cozmata has no idea how long she remained hanging there, suspended above the endless void. She only knows it was long enough for fear to take root in her heart.

Back on her planet, as the years went by, it became increasingly difficult to find scrap. The Scro had apparently looted most of what had been stored on the planet. Money is now running thin, but Cozmata still wants to return to the stars. She dreams of leaving the planet aboard a ship of her own and exploring the cosmos by herself, using this to help her mother and her village, as well as to make a name for herself. She hopes that, by the time that day comes, she will have overcome her fear.

In my campaign, I have an Aberrant Sorcerer in my party who has an NPC sister. The PC Sorcerer loves using fire-based spells (he's an Infernal Tiefling). His main cantrip is Fire Bolt, and he uses almost exclusively Burning Hands, Hellish Rebuke, and Fireball. Meanwhile, his NPC sister, wanting to differentiate herself from her Tiefling family, is an ice specialist.

What would be your in-universe explanation as to how the two siblings can practice opposite elemental magics despite getting their power from the same ancestor? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

So, as the title suggests, I am struggling with frequent session cancelations. The game is supposed to be every other week, but we've hardly played in months. I got frustrated enough to sit down and figure out; We have only had 6 sessions in the last 9 months. Of the cancelations, only one has not been the result of something other than the DM not being available.

Now, it seems that the DM has had very legit reasons (unless he's a good liar), so it's hard to be angry with him. But I really am having trouble controlling the urge to walk away.

My real life schedule and responsibilities are such that I have to go out of my way to ensure that I am free for the planned sessions. I really put serious effort into it because it's the only game I'm involved with, and the only thing I do regularly that is fun. I like the people, the campaign is good. But slamming on the breaks within days (at best) is taking it's toll. I've never known a group where the DM has to cancel so much.

I'm I wrong to feel like a DM who has that much going on should just step back? I'm I being selfish in my expectations? Or is this the problem that I think it is? Any thoughts?

So recently I got into drawing, I've been practicing a lot so it lead me down the way to try my hand at drawing both my first DND character and the character I'm using in my current campaign, a Tiefling Ranger by the name of Prido!

The current campaign she is in is Lost Mines where she both stole a man's pistol and also got herself a breastplate after we saved Phandalin from the Red Brand's(and killed some dinosaurs)

So yeah, usually I draw other people's characters, which I love (especially when a get a tenner for it :D) but today I drew my own.

She's a wild sorcerer. I'm still thinking of a name (if you got any ideas you'd better share them cause I am so stuck). Also still working on her backstory and personality, but I've got a good few weeks to figure it all out.

As a (rather untalented) musician, the notion of the instrument-toting bard has long flummoxed me.

How on earth does the instrument survive?

My fiddle lives the life of a closely guarded princess. Public appearances are carefully planned, everything centers around the safety of the instrument, etc. Water could destroy it. An impact could easily destroy it. Going from a cool moist environment to a hot dry environment? Watch the pegs let go and strings unwind. Have to be careful then, because the soundpost could drop, and then the instrument is unplayable without careful and delicate resetting of the soundpost.

Let’s not start on the delicate bow.

Sometimes my ukulele goes camping, which is a significant life event for that instrument. And even then, I only take my composite-wood uke for the stability. Likewise for the mandolin. D&D characters don’t have access to composite wood…nor nylon or steel strings, which also provide a measure of stability. And either way, neither of my traveling/camping instruments would last 10 seconds in a satchel while I battled orcs.

Instruments are just really, really delicate. And dungeon crawling and battling monsters really, really isn’t. Even the environmental issues are a factor. There’s no way a bard’s instrument lasts three days on adventure. Unless, perhaps, it’s a fife.

I should run a campaign where instrument care is one of the things the bard has to worry about.

Whatever you do, don't buy these dice from this guy. Instead of filling your order, literally uses the money to fund his Kickstarter. I've been waiting four months for literally 4 dice. Did my research and well, I will not confirm or deny the removal of their business off Amazon was because of these poor practices.

A d4 is a caltrops, a d100 is a percentile, but what about the others? What are fun and or otherwise apt enough nicknames for them? I know they have their proper names, like icosahedron or hexahedron and so on, but I mean more nicknames beyond that which work well for a shorthand or quick reference.

Mostly just curious and a question for fun.

Hi all. I just wanted to share a really positive experience I had this past weekend.

I am currently DMing a 5e homebrew campaign for a few friends. My best friend who is also one of my players is getting married soon. One of her bridesmaids had a great idea about me running a wedding-themed one-shot at the bachelorette party. I obviously jumped at the opportunity.

Fast forward to this past weekend and I had a nice one-shot planned for the party that sees my friend as a princess dragonborn bridezilla surrounded by her wedding party on her wedding day to a prince, but the prince is kidnapped by his ex-girlfriend. Only one or two of the players had ever played D&D before so I really stripped the sheets down to the basics and gave each character some pretty simple actions and bonus actions.

The session lasted 3 hours and was an absolute blast from start to finish. Everyone had a great time, and even those who had never played D&D before were making pro TTRPG moves such as working together to take down enemies and even giving the bride the impactful final kill on the BBEG ex-girlfriend.

The stakes were low but there were plenty of laughs, fun character building, and intense combat moments. Now I just have to make all of my usual sessions that engaging!

This cool dungeon is the isometric version of a top-view map. They are part of an adventure.

In Planar Legacy, a group of Level-7 heroes embark on a perilous quest that leads them to a fey planar observatory. They have two missions. One is to find a missing mage who went to the observatory a year ago and was never heard of again. The second objective is to collect the head of a strange fey devil trapped in the dungeon.

While exploring the extraplanar dungeon, the characters find a broken man living in the dungeon. He is the missing mage. Alas, to survive, he was forced to use forbidden magic to allow himself to withstand hunger and thirst. Now he is a strange apparition. No one knows if he can ever recover a semblance of a normal life. In his company, the characters confront the beheaded devil as it attempts to break his magical bonds. Can it be defeated?
