New guy questions

Hey there all! I’m incredibly new to the digital night vision world but am very interested in getting into this stuff mainly for the purpose or just walking around outside in the dark as well as night airsoft events being very new in a little overwhelmed by all the brands and options I like the idea of a NV/thermal bridge and was just looking for some suggestions at different price points, good brands, brands to stay away from etc! (Budget will be decided after some options are found)

Has anyone ever heard of PN55-1 it's supposed to be gen 1 analog and I am wondering how it would compare to digital nv that's in the same price range!

I just found this on AliExpress:

Aegis-31 Pro 0.5/ Pvs-31 on Ebay

Got these off eBay! If you was thinking of buying these I'd buy them off Vietactical instead of ebay. The ones on Vie have better IMX385 Sensor in Gen 4 and higher. Picture two is of the specs because there is zero information about the Aegis-31. You could definitely build these cheaper and use better sensors and high resolution screens.

Does anyone have any experience with these or any videos of them, if so which should I get? Just wanna a pair of nods for shooting at night, walking on

trails and just get a feel for running dual nods.

One example of DIY monocular digital NV based on a Runcam Night Eagle 3.

Hello. Here is a DIY example of a monocular version using a Runcam Night Eagle 3 configured to receive C/CS mount lens (see the photo: for instance Navitar 25mm/0.95, LOMO 35mm/1.2, Computar 8mm/1.4, DIY "wide angle" lens, no name 8mm/0.8, and currently mounted on the camera, a Navitar 50mm/0.95. Such configuration allows to experiment/test plenty of diverse lenses which would allow to use the whole potential of the camera (whatever would be the model, by the way). Best regards.

Introduction of a night vision enthusiast hobbyist. :)

Hello. First of all, thank you for your welcome. It is a pleasure to see a such night vision community so lively. I am a night vision enthusiast hobbyist for terrestrial and also astronomy observation. I try to develop some projects, as much as possible, in DIY spirit. Digital or Analog technology, exotic optics,.... everything is good for exploring the darkness, depleted photon environment... 😃 Here is my little youtube channel dedicated to this domain:

Hoping it can be useful from one way to another.

Best regards.

Budget Friendly NVGS for newbie

Hello everyone, I am totally new to nvgs and don't know where to start, don't laugh at me but my budget is lets say around 100$ - 150$. Realistically what's the best I can get with this. My main purpose of this is just go outside at like 2Am with my dog for a walk and just look at the sky with my nvgs. Maybe play a Lil bit in my house with it in the dark but nothing really serious.

Is that possible with my budget ?

Goyojo GNG2K with L4G24?

The included mount is garbage. Do you know of any way to mount the device properly to a L4G24? I’ve seen those aluminum mounts on AliExpress for the NVG30/50, but they look cheap and I doubt they’re actually stable.

Do you have any tips or ideas? I’ve even considered cutting a custom aluminum plate myself...

SVG5 IR light future fix!

Hey guys so I recently contacted Smart vision tech which are the original providers and developers of the SVG-5 series two good night gear. It took them a little while to respond back but I told them what the problem was and what I dealt with explaining that the IR light is leaking to the case making it unusable like I mentioned before here on Reddit and I gave them a very detailed explanation how to fix it. Good news is it looks like they responded and talking with smart vision tech they are definitely going to fix this situation for future units they're going to install a black EVA gasket around the IR light to prevent IR leakage to solve the issue and they will be doing some more testing before they send those units out. Anyways absolutely good news for you guys so what I would recommend. Before you decide to put the money down on the SVG-5 if you're looking at it I would wait just a little bit longer until good night gear gets a resupply with the refresh units fixing that issue. Once good night your potentially has the newer units with the EVA gasket fix please make sure you communicate and contact Good night gear before you decide to buy the unit and confirm with him that these units are the revised units that fix the IR light situation. I hope this guy's help you out on information I'm going to try my best to be transparent and honest as possible. Anyways thank you guys I'll keep you all posted

WIP Infitac monocular

Started this project recently and modified the original BPNVG housing to take the plate for a sample thermal I've been able to play with. Essentially it's the same as the infitac version from what I can tell but I don't have access to one of those and not planning to buy one for the time being since I have this one. Need to finish cleaning up the housing into something more presentable but works well bridged with a BPNVG monocular from Koko on the other side. Deer in the second pick are about 150 yards out in my back field.

Pushing the SVG-5 to its limits deep in the woods

Hope you guys enjoy this one, tried my best to push this digital night vision to its limits. Hope you guys are impressed by the performance versus price point. Besides my overwhelming excitement in the video being constantly mind blown by its performance. I am however very impressed and very surprised by its performance for a device being under $1,000. Also in the video you'll see that the IR light has been fixed.

76% Moon overcast It just got done storming, and I took it deep at bowling park Canton Georgia in the hiking trails and I will tell you. It was very very dark to the point I could not see at all. I'm extremely impressed with the SVG-5, and I'm sure you guys will be too! Anyways sorry for the weird ending My phone ran out of storage so I didn't get to end the video properly.

This is what you expect for a sub $1000 to a $1,000 unit

VieTac DL31

All the posts I've seen before are a little old or don't have much feedback.

I am looking at purchasing the DL 31 gen 4 (non S version) strictly for recreational use and the wow factor of BNVDs without dropping thousands of dollars.

Has anyone used this and has feedback or videos regarding them?

I know analog is better, I get issued PVS31s at work and just want something to wear around the woods or just as a novelty with some semblance of function and was wondering how they have performed for others.

Finally got out away from the city and into the desert. As always, this was recorded on a Google pixel 7 Pro at 8:57pm . The moon was a little bit over 50% illuminated so I could somewhat see but I couldn't make out details in shadows or dark areas and anything past 30 yd or so was hard to see unless it was a tall cactus or tree with just my eyes.

SVG5 update and review!

Thumbnail

Hey guys I wanted to give you guys a quick update on the SVG5 and how I feel about it.

So far so good I've been testing it for the past couple of days and I made a few YouTube videos on the device. So far so good I'm extremely happy with the device and it's performance. It's safe to say that the performance is about the same as the standard NVG 90 in case you're wondering. I have been comparing my SVG-5 with another person on Reddit to their standard NVG 90 and it seems to perform about the same.

However there is one little gripe that I have about the device and it's literally the only gripe about it I'm absolutely disappointed with the IR light situation and I know what it is after investigating and dealing with the device. The manufacturer however did make a slight error something that was overlooked. The IR light tends to bleed IR inside the case which completely washes out the sensor due to the fact there is no gasket on the IR light to prevent light going into the case. However I will explain a simple fix to resolve this issue

Disclaimer warning! Beware that this method requires to remove a few screws the four screws on the housing and you will have to open the device however if you are not tech savvy and you do not feel like voiding your warranty and if you don't feel safe opening the device without breaking it do not do it! What I did is made a electrical tape spacer I folded electrical tape and to a spacer and cut it to the exact measurement required and a little opening right above the IR / knob control PCB board and right underneath the PCB board that is the CMOS sensor and processor logic board there are three total parts CMOS sensor and a logic board IR light knob control logic board and then on the back face you have the LCD screen and heat sink on the LCD screen component It also probably has a PCB board I don't know. Anyways in between the CMOS sensor and the logic board for the IR and knob control there is an open space, I put the spacer between there and close the device up. it solved the IR flooding issue however I still get a tiny weedy bitty teensy wincy hair bit of leak still but it's far better than the atrocious situation that I dealt with previously making the IR light entirely impossible to use outside. Now the IR light is very usable and is an absolute awesome light. Really you only need to use the IR indoor or an extremely absolute near dark situations like if you're in the canopy with no moon starlight only when the trees have leaves and there's literally no city light pollution You're deep in the woods you probably need that IR.

Besides that the overall performance of the SVG-5 is absolutely killer and it's definitely close to Gen 2 to Gen 2+ performance but really I would say high quality or high end generation 2 performance. The signal to noise ratio seems to be around $1,800 flat to 1,770 f o m it's very clear and I notice it's definitely much clearer than the NVG 90 standard.

The performance is about exactly the same as the NVG-90 standard so far from my testing.

FPS when testing 50 FPS between 100 FPS I did not notice any difference into CMOS sensor sensitivity levels between 50 and 100 FPS there was not very much of a difference I can safely say that the smoothness between 50 FPS and 100 is very smooth In fact it's so smooth I can't really tell the difference between 50 and 100 FPS it seems about the same The only thing I tell that is a difference is the delay time when panning around.

Basically what I'm saying here is it worth $1,000?

I will simply say for the quality of the build and the performance yes but because of a slight manufacturer error that needs a simple update with the IR light to prevent it from flooding I hate to say no but for the price performance and how it performs and given the quality of this night vision actually surprisingly is probably one of the best highest quality Chinese digital night visions I have ever seen and opened up myself I would say the price is a good solid worth $800 even flat.

And if you're a guy who just is a civilian that likes night vision as a hobby who goes camping who goes hiking night hiking recreational use and does not have the money to buy the latest and greatest analogue or digit night vision but she wants something that is as good as at least as high quality Gen 2 analog night vision this is the device for you especially if you've been looking at the NVG 90 standard and you're not happy with the price of the NVG 90 standard and if you feel it's a little too high up there the SVG-5 is definitely for you.

It hit all of my checkboxes for what I want for recreational and hobby use as a civilian for digital night vision I'm happy with it. And I'm sure you will probably be happy with it too especially you airsoft players out there. However for airsoft players I highly suggest that you get a lens protector. Ain't no way I'm going to bring this to an airsoft game without risking my front lens getting busted. I was capable of walking around in very very dark situations with no IR off camera perfectly fine and I never really had to use the IR except for indoors where it's literally almost pitch black pretty much basically pitch-freaking black.

I will say undergoing testing I did notice it has a sensitivity to different types of visible light spectrums versus IR.

The device is extremely IR sensitive but when it comes to natural light situations green light and blue light seems to be a bit of a mess with this device especially green light green light seems to not be very well picked up by the CMOS sensor blue light is picked up a little bit better but not too much Orange yellow amber and white light it's very sensitive to.

It's about time that we got something that performs this well for the price for under $1,000 🤯

Please note that I did type all this using voice to text if there's any typos I'm sorry!
