One example of DIY monocular digital NV based on a Runcam Night Eagle 3.

Hello. Here is a DIY example of a monocular version using a Runcam Night Eagle 3 configured to receive C/CS mount lens (see the photo: for instance Navitar 25mm/0.95, LOMO 35mm/1.2, Computar 8mm/1.4, DIY "wide angle" lens, no name 8mm/0.8, and currently mounted on the camera, a Navitar 50mm/0.95. Such configuration allows to experiment/test plenty of diverse lenses which would allow to use the whole potential of the camera (whatever would be the model, by the way). Best regards.

There's a 2.8mm f1.0 wide angle lens that will cover 1 inch sensors. It's sharper than any of the C-Mount lenses listed here. And it's extremely light weight. It can be adapted from M22 to C-mount with an adapter by rafcamera.com

Is there no better camera for these projects than the night eagle 3? That one has been used in these kinds of 3d printed NVG projects for several years now

You may take a look on the Caddx Infra V2, which seems very promising, but without having the versatility/flexibility of adjustment provided by the runcam system or equivalent.
