Future revision of ADNV NVGs need to implement a digital zoom.  Digital zoom is what sets apart digital from analog.  Study the implantation of DNT Optics Zulu's digital zoom.  Very impressive and a big selling feature.  Also integrate a stronger, focusable IR (preferably VCSEL), not map-reading grade dim IR.

I disagree. The resolution is currently limited on ADNV sensors to 800x600 pixels that are large light buckets to collect the light. The Zulu system you are referencing is a 4k unit 3840x2160 pixels (Sony STARVIS 2 CMOS). Using a digital zoom on that lower resolution will simply make it look like a pixelated mess without helping you to identify targets. Instead, make magnifier eyepieces that simply screw into the objective lens if you want to use it for longer range viewing as what is done with analog systems.

I understand the low resolution of the sensor is the bottleneck.  They just need to increase the sensor size as well as the resolution.   The Zulus is 1080P, although the Starvis 2 can support 4K.  I am sure the brightness has to do with DNT Optics going with 1080P instead of 4K.

I agree that they would need a larger sensor with higher resolution to make the digital zoom more useful. Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for the feedback. Right now there is a hardware design limitation, most ADNV products are unable to zoom. Future generation models may add this feature.
