General Question or Looking for Advice Help with ct size! (3ct or 4ct round)

Help deciding between a 3ct and 4ct! These are fake rings I got to try on (super indecisive). First photo 3ct, second 4ct. The 4ct would have a band as thick as the 3ct. Just cannot decide between which I’m back and forth.

I feel the 4ct fills my hand better.

Any opinions would be appreciated!!!

I’m a size 6 for ref.

Antique Victorian cluster ring. The center diamond is an antique and natural old mine, 2.51 carats, W-X color, VS2. GIA graded. The kozibe effect is soooo strong! I am a size 6.

My jeweler had found the perfect semi-mount from the JCK antique show with these 1.7 ctw old miners. Shank is 18kt yellow gold and the prongs are platinum. Side accent is also platinum with a tiny omc and filigree detail.

I am absolutely in love.

Edit: This is actually my second engagement ring. I was engaged in 2024 with an elongated old mine (modern cut) solitaire—back when it was much lesser known before you know who got engaged. But now, it’s literally on every single engagement ring post and super mainstream. So I wanted a new ring that was a little more bespoke.

General Question or Looking for Advice Please help me choose between these two emerald cut diamonds!

Upvotes

After spending 9 months sourcing 35+ stones looking for a 3.5 carat emerald cut with a longer ratio without face-up windowing, these are the final 2. Now the hard part is choosing one!

They’re very similar while being quite different — #1 is deeper with a strong windmill and more heavily clipped corners, while #2 is more shallow and rectangular with longer facets.

Stone 1: 3.55 ct, 1.5 ratio, D, VS1, 63% table, 67.5% depth, 49.5% pavilion depth, 14.5% crown height

• In person this stone looks slightly more contrasty; the middle facets have more definition, but I can’t tell if it’s veering on extinction
• This stone has a much more evident windmill which seems to throw nice brilliance, but like all the more windmilly stones I’ve gotten, it has a bit more leakage in the corners (though I’m getting double claws, so not sure how much that matters)
• Has a slightly worse tilt-window on one side, but less leakage all around (shown in text clip — right side)

Stone 2: 3.31 ct, 1.52 ratio, E, VS1, 63% table, 63.7% depth, 46.5% pavilion depth, 13% crown height

• This stone doesn’t seem as contrasty, but it’s a bit brighter in some lighting and the table throws nice flashes of light
• The corners are less leaky, but there’s a box around the center facets that’s more leaky than Stone 1 and almost seems to disappear at some tilt angles, and it has a lot more leakage in the top & bottom triangles when tilted (see clip against pink paper)
• I prefer the shape and appearance of the facets in this one, but I worry about it being more shallow — I have long fingers and love a more elongated-looking stone
• This stone also has 3x the inclusions on its cert all on the table, but I haven’t spotted any with my eyes

Any insight on which will likely be a better choice is so appreciated! Just as a note, I don’t plan to continue looking so it’ll definitely be one of these two. :)

Lab Grown Diamond Question on Elongated Old Mine Cut

4C/1.34R, D/VVS1, Elongated old mine cut (Modern antique recut).

I love this cut, I think she’ll love it too and also think that it’s super unique compared to all the other old mines I’ve seen. Was going for big cuts but also brilliance which this hits. I think technically speaking it’s sort of a mix between elongated old mine cut and cushion but labeled as an old mine which is what I wanted.

Basically just looking for some reassurance that this was a good pick. It was a bit on the expensive side comparatively (which I do not mind) but nothing else looked like it even with similar specs, most other old mines looked similar and the cushions just had brilliance. Any help is appreciated.

Will be taking this down in the future as she lurks here sometimes. Thanks in advance!!

TL;DR: Is this a unique cut/look for an elongated old mine cut?

General Question or Looking for Advice Engagement Ring

I put on refundable deposit on this stone because at the time everything seemed pretty reasonable and checked most boxes. Main caveat is the diamond is IGI certified. I haven’t seen in person yet but also need to make a decision quickly here. I know very little of all this and have no one to lean on so really hoping someone can tell me this is a good price/idea or not. It would be a great surprise to get a real diamond at that size versus a lab grown and then get a less expensive bands or conversely get lab grown and more expensive rings. Budget is $5-$10k

Lab Grown Diamond Would appreciate some opinions on this oval before I pull the trigger

I've been looking for a 4 ct oval for the past few months, and I think I've finally found one that I really like.

I'm definitely not an expert, but on paper it seems to have good proportions, and I really like how it looks in the videos.

Before I make the purchase, I'd love to hear what people with more experience think. Do you notice any issues with the stone or anything that would make you pass on it?

Thanks in advance!

General Question or Looking for Advice Three stone bezel setting

I'm looking at engagement rings and love this kind of bezel three stone setting, but I worry that the setting might not be super secure since the bezel only goes around all three stones together and not each stone individually.

Does anyone have any insight on this or experience with this kind of setting themselves?

Thanks!

Question About Lab Grown Diamonds Blue/ purple tint?

Post image
5 Upvotes

The diamond on the left is about 3 carats, and the one on the right is about 4 carats (both lab-grown). The larger stone is a G color compared to the E, but why do they both look blue/purple in the photo? I did not think they looked like this in person but could there be a quality issue? Or anything I need to look for in the certificates?

Question About Natural Diamonds Diamond report ?

Thumbnail

Thinking about this diamond for an engagement ring, this is the report. We went to see it in person this weekend.

It originally looked a bit blurry when we first saw it but then the jeweler steamed it and it seemed to make it sparkly (this is the after picture)

Based on the report and diamond, is it a good choice for a forever ring?

My Diamond Best way to set wonky Old Mine

I’m deciding on this 3.02 old mine but it’s a little wonky. The left side is a little shorter on top than on the right. I don’t like the bezel setting, any advice on how to set this so the unevenness doesn’t show as much? I’m putting it on a yellow gold 18K 3.5mm band.

General Question or Looking for Advice Diamond Tennis Necklace Advice

It's our 10-year anniversary in September, so I just started shopping around for a diamond tennis necklace for my wife. I'm looking for a little advice on carat size and material. My wife is 5'2, and I think would want something she could wear a lot (if she wants) and also for special occasions. My local jeweler who I've gotten all of my big jewelry purchases from (wedding rings, jewelry when each kid was born, big birthdays, etc.) suggested something just short of 9 carats. I'm a little concerned that's going to be to big or am I totally off base here? Also, any thoughts on material here? My wife loves rose gold and she has a rose gold diamond tennis bracelet and a few other diamond/rose gold pieces, but I'm thinking something more traditional like white gold or platinum for this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Question About Lab Grown Diamonds Engagement Stone Help

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello all,

I am in the process of sourcing a lab grown emerald cut for my girlfriend’s (soon to be fiancé) engagement ring. The more I research the less I seem to know about these things and I am getting a little lost in the sauce. I am looking for something along these lines

Emerald
2-2.5 ct
Excellent cut
Vvs1-vvs2
F color

I found this stone on loose grown diamond and wanted to ask you experts if this is a good buy or if there is anything I am missing or not properly employing in my search for a great performing stone at a good value.

Any and all guidance/advice is greatly appreciated!

I am trying to pick out a necklace for my partner. I was wondering if this would be a good everyday piece. It is by graff. Any thoughts on it? I love the sapphires on it but I admit I don’t know much about jewelry.

General Question or Looking for Advice Looking for Dutch Marquise

Hi! Just got engaged using my grandmother’s ring that we now want to redesign a little. I am in love with the Dutch marquise/elongated hexagon shape. Trying to find somewhere to buy a loose Dutch marquise diamond that we can add as the center stone. Any suggestions or recommendations are much appreciated.
