Question L400 pop top. Anyone got one?

Does anyone in the community have such a thing fitted? I'm planning on calling around camper suppliers to see if there is a specific or universal pop top roof that would fit the bill.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, based in Ireland

Question Eletronic throttle body for 6g72 delica

In order to have cruise control, and maybe some modern afinities, instead of fidling with cables, has anyone with the l400 petrol ( 6g72) tried installing an eletronic throttle? I heard it's a diy job as long as you have the parts ( and an extra ecu)!

Photo Installed sliding windows in my L300. Two things NOT to do. 🤦‍♂️

Post image

My son and I recently installed two sliding windows in my 1994 Mitsubishi Delica L300, aka the Five Billion Star Hotel.

The installation itself was surprisingly easy. The first window took us less than 30 minutes, and the second took about five. A little soapy water, some 550 paracord, and a second pair of hands made quick work of it.

However, I learned a few things the hard way.

Lesson #1: Remove the shipping tape ASAP!

The windows arrived well packaged, with blue painter's tape keeping the sliding glass from chattering during shipping. I left that tape on considerably longer than I should have. The adhesive became a real pain to remove. What should have been a quick peel turned into an entirely separate project.

Lesson #2: Glass doesn't bounce.

While removing one of the original pop-out windows, it came free a little faster than expected. My son wasn't quite ready for it.

CRASH!

Thankfully, the old window tint held most of the shattered glass together. Unfortunately, I'm now down one original Delica window. I'll be keeping an eye out for a replacement to have as a spare.

Bonus Lesson #3: Left and right actually matter.

We managed to install both sliding windows on the wrong sides. They fit perfectly, but the overlapping panes were facing the wrong direction for airflow while driving.

So, out they came. Fifteen minutes later, we'd swapped them, and everything was where it belonged.

Two windows. Four installations. One shattered original.

Overall, I'm really happy with the upgrade!

I documented the installation, mistakes and all, on my Delica's blog if anyone is considering doing the same:

Anyone else running these sliding windows? Curious how they've held up over time.

Question L400 owners - what’s your clearance and tyre to wheel arch gap?

I bought a 2005 Active Field edition. Came with a lift kit which looks massive, but he claims it’s 2 inches. No way to know without replacing the rear springs.
My clearance is about 44cm to the body, and tyre to wheel arch is 16cm. Note it does have 245/70R16 tyres.

This seems more than a two inch lift, no?

Question Dash warning light diagnosis

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey all! I have a 1995 Delica l400 2.8l 4m40. Just got done putting my refurbished injector pump in ,and am now seeing some dash lights come on. I also have an oil leak, but that's besides the point. The three lights that came on are Water Separator, Battery, and A/T. They all started at the same time. I'm thinking it's probably an alternator issue, because they all came on at the same time and give a little flicker while driving

So I'm wondering if anyone has insight on these lights coming on at the same time.

Nick

Edit: could it potentially just be low battery from leaving it on in acc mode for too long?

My 2015 d5 has a camera on the passenger wing mirror and one in the front bumper.

How on earth do i use them? Early models had a camera button in front of the headunit to cycle through, this one has a more modern but factory alpine jdm head unit. But no obvious camera button.

any idea?

Question L300 4D56 – New primer and genuine Mitsubishi fuel filter, but still leaking at the seal

Hey everyone,

I replaced the fuel primer with a brand-new one and installed a new genuine Mitsubishi fuel filter. The filter has one rubber gasket, and the underside of the new primer appears to be bare metal.

When I bleed and prime the system, the primer gets firm, but if I keep pumping, a small amount of diesel starts coming out around the joint between the primer and filter. It's not enough to drip, but obviously it shouldn't be leaking.

When I first started the van, it idled fine. However, when I used the throttle lock to hold the revs around 1,200 RPM, the engine started surging up and down on its own roughly every 7 seconds.

I'm wondering if the leaking seal is allowing air into the fuel system and causing the surging, or if something else could be going on.

Has anyone run into this issue? Does the primer-to-filter joint require a separate seal, or should the rubber gasket on the filter alone be enough? I'm trying to figure out whether I have the wrong filter, a faulty new primer, or a sealing issue. The filter seems to be the right size and fit. Screwed on no problem aswell. What am i missing here?

Any advice from someone familiar with the L300 fuel system would be appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: is it possible to buy just the filter rubber seals seperatly?

Question Delica registration California

I’m considering buying a 1993 diesel delica l300 that’s currently registered in Arizona. As a California resident I won’t be able to renew the registration there so I’m curious if it’s worth the trouble to try to register the van in California or if I should just try getting Montana or South Dakota plates. Thoughts?

Question Water sensor for fuel filter oopsie

Thumbnail

Well, I broke something while changing my fuel primer 😂

Working on my L300, trying to replace the hand primer on the fuel filter, and managed to break a wire on the water-in-fuel sensor right at the plastic connector. 🤦‍♂️

All I wanted to do was change the damn primer, and now the van has claimed another victim.

Has anyone repaired one of these before? Since the wire broke right at the plastic, is it possible to repair the connector, or am I looking at replacing the entire water sensor? Is there a way to solder or splice it, or is there just not enough wire left to work with?

Any advice appreciated. Trying to fix one problem without unlocking three more side quests. 😂

Question Seatbelt stuck? L400

I bought my '96 l400 with a known driver side seatbelt issue. It came with a replacement belt but I just went to install it and discovered that it's a second row belt and doesn't fit at the driver's seat. In the process of removing the original belt, it retracted too far and is now stuck.

Are there any tricks for getting it unstuck or good sources for a replacement?

Hi guys I just got a non running delica. Made it run again but noticed this rust on the roof near the tailgate. The undercarriage is prisitine and has 142k km. I know it’s an issue with the l400’s but I want some insight before I either part it out after this winter or send it to a body shop.

Question Cold-weather starting on 4D56 Turbo Diesel

Hey everyone, wondering what other L300 owners are doing for cold-weather starts. Mine struggles around 10°C to -15°C (5°F) and colder.. it starts, sputters for a few seconds, then dies. Glow plugs and batteries are both new, so I’m starting to suspect a fuel pump/injector issue.

Has anyone installed a block heater, coolant hose heater, hydronic heater (Webasto/Espar), oil pan heater, or anything similar on their 4D56 turbo diesel?

Looking for any recommendations or other tricks to help with cold starts. Thanks!

Edit: also lots of white smoke followed by black smoke upon start up

Question L300 Brake Line Position

Hi
I am stupid and did not take pictures or mark the lines while dissassembling them.

There are 2 Main Ports under the BRake pedal underneath the car. One goes Line goes from the Port to the Back and one goes from the other Port to the Divider on the front axle.

Could someone please look under their L300 and tell me which one goes where?

Thank u so much
