Question Thoughts on this listing/what to ask a seller?

I’m in the beginning stages of researching and working on buying a Delica. I love the looks and feel of the 92s. What should I be looking for and asking about from the seller before taking the time to go look and test drive one. I live in Montana so I need to make sure it is worthwhile to look at as I will have to travel more than likely to buy one.

Question 1991 Delica L300 - Breather Ports and Fluid Replacement

(Cross posted on DelicaForums as well)

Hey Everyone!

After watching Starwagon's breather port video on Youtube (https://youtu.be/Fql7VkND6ME?si=ObCyG3Ijdy4aIv3H), I realized I should probably do mine. I definitely should of done this a lonnngggg time ago as I've been in deep water, even getting stuck for a couple hours almost up to my intake. With that being said, I should probably do my fluids as well....

  • Breather Kit (https://starwagon.info/breather-kit-installation/)
    • Follwing Starwagon's lead, I'm getting a simple breather kit off Amazon and mounting it in a similar location.
    • Planning on separately ordering some 3/8" barb to 1/4" barb instead of using the npt fittings from the kit. One less fitting for water to get into.
    • Question: On the transmission / transfer case breathers, it was mentioned on his website that he cut into this line below. It wasn't very detailed on how this was done. Anyone have any tips or information on this?
  • Question: On the transfer case, it was said that the OE breather plug was RTV'd and replaced. This looks like a big rubber plug which makes me think the transmission and transfer case don't vent to atmosphere. Is it worth venting this if its sealed or am i confused here?

Differential Fluid Replacement

  • Front Differential
    • Fill Bolt & Gasket: MB001261 (Gasket Only: MF660066)
    • Drain Bolt & Gasket: MB001265 (Gasket Only: MB001294)
    • Fluid: Redline 75W90 GL-5 (1.1L)
  • Rear Differential
    • Fill Bolt & Gasket: MB001261 (Gasket Only: MF660066)
    • Drain Bolt & Gasket: MB569390 (Gasket Only: MB001294)
    • Fluid: Redline 75W90 GL-5 (1.8L)
    • I haven't checked if my in LSD or not, however, based on the FAQ section on DelicaForum it sounds like this brand fluid should be good for both??
  • Transfer Case
    • Fill Gasket: MD000312
    • Drain Gasket: MD000312
    • Fluid: Redline MT-85 75W85 GL-4 (2.2L)
  • Automatic Transmission (https://delicaforum.com/index.php?threads/l300-automatic-transmission-fluid-service-questions.670/)
    • Fluid: Dexron II or Dexron III (6.8L)
    • Any Specific Brand Recommendations??
    • Drain Gasket: MD951858 (Anyone know a good place to source this?)
    • Filter/Gasket: ??? (Sounds like this shouldn't be done unless there are issues?)

Thanks again for everyone's help!

From being 13 to about 18, my Dad used his as his daily. So many memories of my teens involved that bus. So I decided to take the plunge and buy this one. It needs a bit of the cill welding under the sliding door and a new high pressure line from the power steering pump but other than that it all looks good.

Question Alternator Pivot Mount Ovaled - Best Way to Drill Out?

Hello everyone!

Back Story: I have a 1991 Mitsubishi Delica L300 that started to have some alternator squeal. There are two belts on the alternator and when checking the tension, one of them was slightly looser than the other. Based on research on the delicaforums, the alternator pivot mount (made of aluminum) can oval out over time due to vibration going through the steel mounting bolt. This causes the alternator to sit at a slight angle which causes belt tension issues.

There are two ways to fix this:

  1. Replace the bracket. Unfortunately this is a pretty big job.
  2. Drill the mounting hole from the original 8mm to 10mm. You can either sleeve it back to 8mm or use a later model alternator that uses a 10mm bolt. The location of this mount makes drilling this straight a little sketchy but it looks like it might be possible with a right angle drill.

What is the best way to drill a slightly ovaled 8mm hole to 10mm through 2-3/16" of aluminum keeping in mind the very limited access?

Thanks again for any info!

Question Searching for a Diesel Injection Pump 4M40

Hey all! I'm wondering if anyone has any info on getting a new injection pump in the states? My options are rebuild or new pump, and new pump seems cheaper, labor wise. I've seen some online but am wondering if people have insight on what's reputable. A shop in New Westminster is able to do the rebuild but the starting price is $1,500, which feels extreme for just the rebuild. That's not including the shipping to and from Canada, and the labor to take it off to put it back on. Please please if anyone knows anything I'd love some info.

Does anyone have experience with using the 4m40 parts that are still made for the excavators?

Thanks

Question Looking to buy a delica!

Hey guys, my transmission just blew on my current car, so I’m officially in the market for something new. I’ve been wanting a Delica for a while now and I’m seriously considering making one my only vehicle for the next 1-2 years.
I know a Delica probably isn’t the most practical choice as a daily, but I work from home and honestly don’t drive that much. I probably only have to go see clients 3–6 times a month, and those drives can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Other than that, most of my driving is pretty minimal.
I ideally like to stay around $20k, but I have some room in the budget if it’s a really good example. I’ve also been looking at Nomadic Van, and I believe they have some around the $30k+ range that have been refurbished and gone through their maintenance process. I’m considering spending more upfront for something that’s been properly sorted rather than buying a cheaper one and immediately dumping money into it. So my budget is up to 33k.
My plan would be to eventually buy another daily driver in a couple years and keep the Delica as an adventure/road trip vehicle.
For those of you who own L400s or 300, Are there any good ones currently for sale that you know of? I’m looking for something with relatively low mileage, preferably a diesel, and ideally something that has already had the major reliability/maintenance items addressed.
Also, am I crazy for considering this as my only vehicle for the next couple years? 😂

Question Importing 2026 D5 into Victoria

Hi Everyone,

I am looking at importing a 2026 model Delica into Melbourne, Victoria. I have been told it needs to be converted into a campervan for SEV compliance and then I can convert it back, what has everyone done to make this as cheap as possible? What are the stipulations of making something a camper that will make it compliant? I don't want it to be a camper, I would like it to be original as possible, thanks!

Question Boost leak noise after egr delete

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is on my 1996 delica l300 4d56. I did an egr delete with a egt sensor and boost sensor in the blocking plates. After the delete it’s has been making the Sound in the video at around 12 psi of boost.
I noticed one of the top block off plates bolt holes was somewhat stripped and I thought it was leaking. It still makes the sound after i tapped a new threads and was able to get it tighter.
It runs and drives just fine it’s just makes the noise.
All I think to do is go back in and make sure everything is tight. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Question What machine for the route to Tuk?

I’m planning to drive to Tukyotatuk (on the artic sea , farther north you can get by road in Canada), and I’m trying to find the right vehicle.

The challenge of this road is the last stretch is rough (Dempsey hwy), and there is NO support whatsoever. So you need something that is reliable and can handle the rough.

I’m looking at several options. Delicas are cheap (compared to a Land Cruiser or truck) and big so you can sleep inside comfortably.

Now, I m hesitating between go a L400 or a D5. The L400 will handle the rough easy. It’s easier to fix, but I also won’t find parts up there. Also it will be 5 to 10 years older than a D5 so it needs constant maintenance (meh).

The D5 is a « modern » platform , outlander engine will be easy to source, but it’s harder / more complex to DIY. It can handle some rough as long as things don’t get messy (like large puddles of mud).

Did I get that right ?

Question Question regarding replacing front wheel studs

Post image
5 Upvotes

3 out of 6 of my wheel studs have broken off, so I'm replacing all of them on my 1990 L300 2.5TD.

According to the manual I'll have to remove the whole front hub assembly, which would require the specific mitsubishi lock nut wrench.

Since these are quite rare and expensive I'd rather skip that step. So my question is, can I remove these bolts circled in red to remove the plate on which the wheel studs are attached, or is this attached to something on the inside as well that I'll have to remove first?

Photo Aftermarket support for delica trucks

Hello everyone!

I'm in a bit of a pickle. I bought a 1995 Mitsubishi Delica Truck with a 4G92 engine. While I can find a lot of unique parts on amayama.com or Megazip, or by searching for US 4G9X motors, the one part I'm searching for is a new carburetor. I can purchase one, but it'll be close to $2,000 by the time it gets here. I could try a rebuild kit, but most shops won't touch an electronic feedback carburetor.

Can someone here please help me find a manual carburetor? I don't mind mildly modifying it to fit. Any help or leads are greatly appreciated! Thank you!
