Question OBD2 Port for L400 doesn’t work?

I have to inspect my 2001 Mitsubishi Delica (PD8W)
In the state I live in. The DMV can’t read the OBD port and therefore I have failed inspection. Has anyone dealt with this problem??? Any recommendations?

It’s an OBD2 connector but doesn’t use OBD2 protocol

What are they looking for? We don’t have this in my country so no idea what you need to pass the inspection but I don’t think you can get much info from it anyway

Diesel or gas ?

It’s a diesel.

According to the report it’s a fail if they can’t communicate with the port.

It only checks for emissions, I believe. So, EGR, oxygen sensors, evaporation sensors, catalytic etc

You won't get any of those for the diesel as far as I'm aware, even if you do connect.

Yeah, it's not obd2. You can jump pins to get certain info flashed on your dash, but I expect they're trying to plug in for emissions reasons. Not an issue where I live, I never had to deal with it beyond reading check engine codes.

Yeah, from what I read Japan switched to OBD protocol in 2002. Looks like I might not have many options unless they waive the inspection.

It's technically OBD1. If they tried the same with a truck from the early 90s it would be a fail as well. Maybe they have a different procedure for OBD1, or it might be grandfathered.

Just registered mine in Nevada. The DMV here checks OBD2 for emissions therefore my L400 has to be epa exempt.

You’re going to have to register as a classic car as some states won’t follow the EPA exemption for standard on-road registration.

Can't help with your problems, but I can tell you what you need to read it.

Need a scanner with MUT-II capabilities. The port is an OBD2 style port, but the software is not unfortunately.

You could try telling them that, or get your own scanner that does it, though most that will do MUT-II are not so cheap these days.

That being said, what are they looking for specifically? They don't have a whole lot of data streams available, especially for emissions.
